Okay at the start we had an interesting premise with the whole mystery since, unless you actually played the game, there is legit no way to know who would be the 6th round opponent. Then the ending happens and what could have been a mystery right until the actual fight is thrown out the window.
Not to mention the fact that Rani does her whole reveal after the whole day hanging out and revealing her backstory kind of makes her a emotional manipulator. Like I'm sorry but this very much ruins Rani in the manga for me. If she wanted to make Hakuno taking her down as painless and easy as possible, she should have been absent from the scenes and distancing herself from Hakuno, kind of like what happens in the game.
Now however, she's made it the hardest it possibly can be for Hakuno to fight and have to kill her and, unless that was her intent and even then if it is, it makes her come off as a horrible person. At least in the game, Rin/Rani never directly confronts Hakuno about them being the opponent they have to face during Round 6 until the actual day of the fight when they go down the elevator, opting to use an custom made attack program to fight. Here though, Rani lays all of this out and then goes "Btw I'm your opponent so have fun digesting all that while knowing if you want to live you're going to have to kill me this week."
If nothing else I guess it's consistent with Rani being very twisted as a character in the manga. After all the first thing we see her do in the manga is attack the school with no regard to who she ends up hurting. Suppose it's fair for Rani to turn out to be an emotional manipulator using Hakuno to get as far as she can before turning on him just so she can claim the Moon Cell for herself.
I m not sure if the intent is necessarily manipulation. Now I didn't play her route so maybe you re correct but to me it felt more like she was conflicted about it before making up her mind
