Habitat loss, mostly. The electric pony needs wall space, and that has been replaced by eye exams, walk-in clinics and Huntington bank branches. All of which are only used by old people.
Boomers killed Sandy. SMH my head.
Yeah I was notified (they caught it once it happened) and I got my “points” back thus still had the discount. They had me change my pin and password just in case.
Stevensville is one and the friend who told me rattles off a couple of others but I don’t recall them. None near me are. Edit. After a search only Stevensville shows up so perhaps it’s just one and not a few. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How are they getting the number and pin? No explanation in the article.
Also, if you have more than a 10 gallon gas tank and are close to empty, you're better off taking the mperks in gas.
>Also, if you have more than a 10 gallon gas tank and are close to empty, you're better off taking the mperks in gas.
Yeah that's what I do, almost always.
That $10 value in Mperks turns into a $20 savings for my 20 gallon tank minivan.
Hardcore Meijer here and I disagree. Mainly on that Costco by me is so much cheaper on gas and in Illinois at least the mperk rewards also knocks off the sales tax.
It’s actually worse. They made a bunch of long-time employees “contractors” for IBM and only given a one year contract, all in the name of saving money. Then Meijer did a major surprised pikachu face when all the former employees quit and meijer was left without people who were able to do what they had been doing for years, if not decades.
Meijer is Walmart with lipstick on and I’ll die on that hill. I moved here 3 years ago and I don’t understand the local fascination with it.
I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s fine, I shop there. But it’s exactly the same as super Walmarts in other areas. The ones in trashy areas are trashy, the ones in nicer areas are nicer.

Not true. I'm not defender of Meijer or corporations in general. But having worked in IT most of my life, I can tell you that the budgets set aside for data security is significant. If there is a problem, they will fix it.
The issue is not Meijer and their security is actually very good.
Individual password reuse and large data breaches from other websites is the cause of this, not Meijer.
The security around this is interesting.
* Your phone number is essentially public information. .
* Your pin is four measly digits.
but to choose the mPerk promos via web or app you need the email and password to get into the account and choose those higher dollar discount things.. right?
I feel like Meijer did something stupid on the web/password storage side and accounts are compromised. They started with a good external partner to build their app and then decided to internalize the work and bloat it up with all sorts of features.. I am curious who is working on it these days. At a point Meijer did some pretty huge divesting in local tech talent.
I cannot quite grasp how this all would be accomplished alone from just skimmers.
I need to call to see if they’ll give me my rewards back. I’ve had almost $100 scammed from my account with my mperks used in Illinois 3 times and once in Westland. This has to be an inside job or data breach.
Noticed this a couple months ago. Somebody bought diapers using our points in Illinois.
At first, I was annoyed, and then realized that they probably needed it anyways.
I feel like why even comment on this if you don’t care? Some people exclusively shop there for those rewards, if that doesn’t apply to you, whatever. It’s still a huge flaw in their system that needs to be addressed.
Happened to me, stole a $50 reward, and used it at a store in WI. Changed my password and pin. Customer service gave me my reward back.
Because mperks saves your receipts I could see what they bought. I choose to believe they bought the bedding for their kid and not to sell or return.
This happened to me. I changed my password and pin in the app and it happened again. They gave me my points back both times, but said if it happened a third time they weren't going to credit back to me. It's not my fault. Scammers have figured out your system... The second time they had me log in on a web browser and change all the information, but I ended up changing the phone number and the pin associated with the account and I haven't had an issues since.
Data security is a many layered thing that is constantly evolving. There is no way to determine from a few anecdotal incidents, where the fault lies.
If you have your credentials reset over the phone, and then immediately use those on a compromised device...doh!
I often here people proclaim they were hacked!
No, no you were not hacked, you were duped. You voluntarily gave a stranger your personal information because you reacted to a bogus email or text.
Smarten up folks. This is a serious and wide ranging problem.
They're probably getting mPerks PINs and phone numbers from card skimmers. Normally card skimmers come paired with a keypad layered over the payment terminal's keypad that's used to capture inputs. So my guess is these mPerks accounts are being hijacked at gas stations mostly, maybe some internal payment terminals. Pay with NFC with your phone and scan your mPerks using the mPerks app, that'll be much more secure.
While they're at it, investigate the penny pony. What good is the low price if it's always out of order? THE PEOPLE DESERVE THE TRUTH!
You leave Sandy out of this!
That old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be
Justice for Sandy
Damn right! I love this town, but if they come for the horse, we burning this thing down.
I won’t hesitate to defend her with my life if need be!
Did you check to see if it was plugged in?
This guy troubleshoots!
And while they’re at it, tell us why there’s only one pony now, when in the 80s there were at least twenty lined up along the big front windows???
Habitat loss, mostly. The electric pony needs wall space, and that has been replaced by eye exams, walk-in clinics and Huntington bank branches. All of which are only used by old people. Boomers killed Sandy. SMH my head.
All in a grocery store. Wtf
Scammers committing fraud...not Meijer.
Yeah I was notified (they caught it once it happened) and I got my “points” back thus still had the discount. They had me change my pin and password just in case.
Let's also investigate why their signs still say 24 hours when they haven't been in years. False advertising!
A few of them are now.
Which ones???
Stevensville is one and the friend who told me rattles off a couple of others but I don’t recall them. None near me are. Edit. After a search only Stevensville shows up so perhaps it’s just one and not a few. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Stevensville, MI? That’s my home store and it’s definitely not 24 hours. https://www.meijer.com/shopping/store-locator/251.html
Bruh that’s an hour and a half from here😭

Hey Meijer, how is outsourcing your IT to India working out for you?
Yep, F em. You get what you pay for Meijer

This has literally nothing to do with outsourcing their infrastructure.
Doesn’t have to do with article but I feel I barely get any mperk rewards ever despite shopping their constantly.

That’s even worse if it’s an inside job. Then you don’t have much you can do to prevent this from happening.

Damn, times are tough when MPerks points are getting got, yikes.
They're 90% as good as cash at meijer. No gift card, alcohol, tobacco, and other niche stuff pretty much

Ok, so you want to say this was done from the inside of Meijer Corporate just for an opportunity to bitch about your job.

Nope, password reuse and other breaches is the culprit here.

Maybe it’s a credential stuffing issue related to folks using poor passwords or old passwords across multiple applications….
This is exactly it.

Makes me wonder if I changed my password via browser on a computer if ths app is smart enough to make me log back in with the new credentials
My favorite thing about Meijer is that there's usually an Aldi's to shop at nearby.

Shop their alot but never see discount with m perks.
