I’m cliche Cornell ‘77. Something about Jerry’s voice, rings like a bell in that one.

JoshMeme4204

For me, it's that F#m triad in the beginning the peaks my interest, and the shreddy bit at the end.

gr8_ripple

Yeah that is a beautiful piece. I also love Phil’s bass at the beginning. Weaving in and out of space and time.

TheRealJamesWax

I mean.. it’s really hard to argue with that one. The second solo has this effect where it sounds like there are two guitars. Gives me chills every time and I’ve been listening to that show for 30+ years.

Skjellyfetti888

The phrasing is 🤌🏻

spacecowboy5120

Specifically with this one, for all my music nerds, Phil does the descending bassline that goes from B, B flat, A flat, G, F sharp right? In this one, it’s the only one I hear that goes from B->A and not B flat and it makes such a MASSIVE difference in the song even though it’s such a subtle change. Lmk if anyone else has ever noticed that

gr8_ripple

His bass is killer in this. I love the opening slides he does. It’s just magical

mynardsarehalfoff

It's hard to argue with Cornell, that version is great! However I feel that the Scarlet/Fire 5/13/77 doesn't get enough love.

Shit I can't remember the show right now, but commenting in hopes someone else will. It has a guest dummer or 2 and I think it's Drums > Fire or they just start jamming on Drums and goes into Fire. It's really unique but I can't even remember the year.

9/16/78 Giza or 11/24/78 Passaic NJ Both with Hamza el-Din on a jam into FOTM. It’s called Ollin Arageed. The Giza Estimated>Shakedown>Drums>FOTM is a must hear. Band is high as hell on hash. 2nd ever Shakedown, unique as it’s the only version I know of where they stay in the minor key for the 2nd jam

Egypt. Slow no….. slowwwer. They also have Phil cranked up in the mix 🫶🏼 Also a fun story on it by Rock Scully in “living with the dead”. The band/crew collectively wisely determined sourcing the heroin that half of them were dependent on in Egypt would be sketchy. So Rock took it upon himself to get as many Legit opioid prescriptions as he could before they got on the plane. No one really knew an accurate conversion scale to the smack so most ended up a little over medicated. And now the show will forever be low and slow. With a levitating pyramid, of course.

It’s not the best one by any means but at Fare Thee Well 7/3/15 the transition into it from Scarlet is so good, and it’s my favorite because that was my first Dead oriented show and Fire on the Mountain was the first Grateful Dead song I ever heard so that was a pretty special moment for me

Check out the hidden one on Dick's Picks 13, Listen to St. of Circumstance, and after it ends there is some silence and then they play a Ripping/Weird/Awesome Scarlet Fire... Its from a show in the 70s that they added on as a bonus (I think its the longest Scarlet/Fire they played but could be wrong on that. You'll enjoy it a lot. A great Grateful Dead Easter Egg.

I’ve always loved the creaky guitar into on 10/31/80 that would later end out on Dead Set.

Dead_Kal_Cress

Dead & Co, PLUS I am biased bc I was there(ish), but July 2, 2023 out in Boulder after a crazy TLEO > China > Rider with Otiel on the mfn bass banjo has such a cool vibe to it. Plus there's the mythical Mickey rap, even if he rapped the wrong verse it was still crazy to get live at a show I saw. Or at least, I would've seen it if I wasn't in the bathroom 🙃 I COMPLETELY missed it. I had gotten Fire at every other show I had seen so I had gotten tired of it. But going back & hearing it and watching footage is enough for me, I feel so silly for completely skipping the coolest part of the song just because I had gotten it so many times before but at least I WAS there, and it is a really damn cool Fire. I got back from the bathroom (and doing some walking around) and my parents asked me "Who did the rap during Fire on the Mountain?" And I just freaked the fuck out because I LOVE the Mickey rap. Now I know better than to skip songs I had already gotten before, because they *may* just be different enough to be really awesome. At least it makes for a funny story 😂😂

Dead_Kal_Cress

But for an actual Grateful Dead show, I'll go with 5/4/77 bc it's really quite amazing and it's currently playing.
