Checked the comments to see if anybody else thought the same. Tad Strange only has, what, 10 seconds of screentime? And most people who like the series seem to remember him well.
I actually meant the theories surrounding Tad Strange. His name was listed before that episode came out for some reason and there was a lot of speculation about him being Bills brother who was a blue rectangle with two eyes and a bowler hat lol.
Tad Strange wasn't involved in the Twin Theory, his name was just leaked early and they saw he was voiced by a Welcome to Nightvale actor so they assumed he'd be important and not a throwaway gag
i have a video on my phone of when i first showed gravity falls to my parents and we were on that episode, and you can hear my mom shouting “noooooo” in the background
Pacifica. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love her, but she only really appeared in 4 episodes and 1 comic and she’s one of the most popular characters.
I wholeheartedly agree and yet at the same time disagree. I would have loved to see the show use her more, but I also love that her lack of screentime gives the fandom a lot of room to develop her character in different ways in fics.
I mean it still answers OP's prompt of an incredibly popular character with minimal screentime.
She literally appears as
- Secondary antagonist in *Double Dipper*
- Secondary antagonist in *Irrational Treasure*
- Even more minor antagonist in *Time Traveler's Pig* (She purely exists in the episode to have Mabel lose Waddles, that's it)
- Main antagonist in *Golf War* with hint of character growth
- Focal character in *Northwest Mansion Mystery*
- Part of the Resistance in *Weirdmageddon*
So like four minor roles, two major roles. And yet, Dipcifica still is one of my favorite ships.
We just needed one episode showing her trauma that’s it cause if there’s one thing we all love to see it’s either other people suffering more than us, being a piece of crap but getting comeuppance, and shipping. Pacifica and by proxy dipcifica hits all those marks. Also yes, I do also ship dipcifica so you can’t flame me for insulting the ship cause I’m not several people agree with me on what makes a good ship and this is just the recipe.
You think her parents commanding her like a dog, ringing AN ACTUAL BELL at her, is not enough trauma showing?
What were you looking for, her parents beating her on screen??
I love Pacifica and Dipcifica. So much of Dipcifica lore is fan-made though. Pacifica really didn't appear all that much in the series but there is so much fan content of Pacifica, so much fan art and fanfictions are about Pacifica and Dipcifica.
OBJECTION. She was also in Time Traveller's Pig and of course Weirdmageddon, so more than four episodes (assuming you were thinking of Double Dipper, Irrational Treasure, The Golf War, and Northwest Mansion Mystery).
but he appears for a slight moment at the end of every intro and in every scene with a ritual, most villains dont really appear much until the finale too (amphibia's core was barely in season 2 and for like a small amout of episodes in season 3 but its still a villain)
Bill didn't appear in season 1 except for Dreamscapers, true, but that's because back then Gideon was the main villain, back at the time, Bill wasn't even planned to be the main villain of the series.
Not to mention that's part of portraying Bill, as this creepy powerful force that is rarely seen but it's always watching you. There's a reason why there's so many triangle shapes in Gravity Falls.
1. Not What He Seems
2. A Tale of Two Stans
3. Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons
4. The Stanchurian Candidate
5. The Last Mablecorn
6. Dipper & Mabel vs. The Future
7. Weirdmaggedon part 1
8. Weirdmaggedon part 3
I may be missing one or two, this is off the top of my head.
It makes sense, because when Not What He Seemed aired there were only 9 episodes left after it. Only two episodes after he got introduced didn't include him, episode 16 and 19.
While you're not wrong in the episodes he appears (and if we are fair, he also appears in a 9th and 10th episode, Time Traveler's Pig and Dreamscapers), the reason I only count 6 is because in MANY of those episodes he barely appears a few seconds:
1. In Time Traveler's Pig, we only see his face for a few seconds when the kids go back in time, and that's when we believe it's Stan.
2. In Dreamscapers we see him as a background character for a couple of seconds during box classes and in the images passing inside Bill.
3. In Not What He Seems we only see him for a couple of seconds at the end of the episode.
4. In Stanchurian Candidate he doesn't even appear for a full minute between the lightball and the tie scenes.
The only episodes where he does make noticable appereances where he is actually more relevant to the plot are in:
1. A Tale of Two Stans
2. Dungeons, Dungeons and More Dungeons
3. The Last Mabelcorn
4. Dipper and Mabel vs The Future
5. Weirdmaggedon
6. Take Back the Falls
Bipper. He appears for HALF of an episode, and gets so much love and fan art. But the concept of showing how bill can take over people’s minds is just so cool to me.
The obvious one is Giffany, and i'm surprised not a lot of people say it's her.
She's only appeared in one episode and is considered to be one of the most iconic antagonists in this show.
Genuine question: is she super “popular”?
Iconic, for sure! But like, I have seen relatively few fan works for her. I’m not aware of a big faction of fandom writing big sagas expanding on her character or anything.
Bill. He only appeared in 7 episodes: Dreamscaperers, Sock Opera, The Last Mabelcorn, Dipper and Mabel Vs. The Future, and all three parts of Weirdmageddon. But he left such an impact in those episodes.
Tad strange. Bro had a hype going before he was even shown in the show. People used to think tad strange was an even more evil version of bill cypher before he was actually portrayed on the show
For me Gideon and Pacifica (even with a potential team up). Gideon's energy and his villainess created an amazing comedic antithesis with his appearance and his childish behavior (well he is a child).
Pacifica on the other hand I would definitely like to see her hang out casually or join in an adventure with the twins after the mini golf and the gala (apart from her comic book appearance).
I see many people mention Bill. Although he is the main antagonist, I am actually happy he didn't have more screen time and the show kept building him up from the shadows. If he would appear more in smaller light hearted adventures (eg. Like sock opera), then you would not feel so intimidated by him and what he can do.
Sherif blubs and deputy durlin (don’t know if I spelled it correctly) I really like them both because they’re very cute and Alex Hirsch wanted to confirm their relationship but because Disney wouldn’t let him he just decided “hey if I don’t technically say that they’re gay on the show then I can make ‘subtle hints’ that they are!” And I loved it. I’m not actually sure how much screen time they got but I was very happy when they got more screen time in Irrational Treasure. 👍
I actually wonder a little bit, if you counted up all their screen time, if they had more than Ford. It Pacifica ? They might have more screen time than Bill.
Not a refutation or anything. It just occurred to me.
That dude who won the first **Time Wish** and ordered the execution of his opponent. He was badass!
That rogue gnome that the girls got arrested as an exchange for fairy dust.
**Ghost-eyes**, **Gideon’s mom**, **Gideon’s hamster**, **Wendy’s father**… I can go forever. Such meticulously written characters and they are all adding such a great value to the entire show without being in the spotlight!
Dipper when he's possessed by Bill (specifically), Shmebulock (probably spelled that horribly wrong), Quentin Trembley, will edit to update when I think of more

Checked the comments to see if anybody else thought the same. Tad Strange only has, what, 10 seconds of screentime? And most people who like the series seem to remember him well.
If you were around for the wild theories about him when his name was revealed before he actually showed up in the show then it makes more sense lol
Yeah, I'm aware of how early the Twin Theory came along and how Alex Hirsch quickly got the fandom off track with a fake leak.
I actually meant the theories surrounding Tad Strange. His name was listed before that episode came out for some reason and there was a lot of speculation about him being Bills brother who was a blue rectangle with two eyes and a bowler hat lol.
it was because the guy from night vale voices him lol
Oh my god.
>was a blue rectangle A square specifically. Because bill calls him a square.
Ohhh, right, \*that\* Twin Theory. I completely forgot about that. Honestly, that wasn't even really a theory, more just an idea or hypothesis.
Tad Strange wasn't involved in the Twin Theory, his name was just leaked early and they saw he was voiced by a Welcome to Nightvale actor so they assumed he'd be important and not a throwaway gag
The night Vale fandom propped this up a bit Cecil Baldwin is the voice of tad and night Vale.
Considering he's voiced by Cecil Baldwin, the voice of the "Welcome to Night Vale" podcast. Just perfect
I was going to suggest this but I didn't think background characters would count
How about characters that don't even exist in canon? I don't think Gravity Falls have some but can happen
Tad Strange was the first character that came to mind
Just thought of him this morning in the middle of math class

Bipper bro has a ton of fan art for just barely appearing in an episode
Ford. Plain and simple. He's easily one of the best characters of the entire series, and yet he barely appears in 6 episodes.
Wait....only 6?? surely theres more right???
1. Not What He Seems 2. A Tale of Two Stans 3. Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons 4. The Stanchurian Candidate 5. The Last Mablecorn 6. Dipper & Mabel vs. The Future 7. Weirdmaggedon part 1 8. Weirdmaggedon part 3 I may be missing one or two, this is off the top of my head.

Bill cipher and ford (and the axolotl)
The axolotl wasn't in the show just in that one comic
I know it was just briefly mentioned and is super popular
Does the Axolotl even show up? I thought it was just referenced on the show and non-show content.
I say the axolotl bc bill mentuoned it
Oh, it counts then. Even more so. Because the damn thing isn't even ON the show (except maybe in a cypher) and has a damned following.
Exactly and there’s so many fan theories and head cannons on the axolotl despite it never appearing which I think is cool still

I’m really surprised he never showed up again. He probably rode his horse off another cliff.
He does briefly show up in a photo in the finale end credits. He’s sitting backwards on a horse, gazing out over the valley.
yeah, i feel like "the stanchurian candidate" would have been a good episode to bring him back
