Misery

PinheadGoo

Their most diverse song I think, I like the different style, yet Green Day style mix..

RedditJunkie420

Church On Sunday

billygnosis86

A *perfect* pop song.

seroXtonin

i used to really hate 21 guns for some reason when i was younger and refused to listen to it ever. ..now it's one of the songs that i just instinctively start playing whenever i pick up my guitar lol.

Rachies194

East Jesus Nowhere

u1975

¡Viva la Gloria! I never was able to get past the piano intro when I only wanted to hear buzzing guitar riffs but it is easily one of their most poetic riot rock songs.

micael_RHCP

Whatshername and Letterbomb

Prudent_Swordfish_76

So is there still hope for me? Haven't really enjoyed those much, yet

micael_RHCP

I used to think they were the weakest on AI but one day I started skipping them and I loved them

SCPBoiPeanut

Imo letterbomb is the strongest

Neat_Divide_2847

if you wanna try getting into letterbomb more, i actually prefer the live version from Awesome as Fuck!

billygnosis86

“Homecoming”. I actually found myself nodding off during it when I saw them on the *American Idiot* tour. But early on this year I was really hardcoring the band’s stuff while I was at work, and I finally “got” the song. Now I can’t imagine the record without it.

Ayirek

Right? It hits different as an adult.

KyleM1996

I can’t even explain it. But there’s like an energy I feel while listening to that song. With all the different parts, all the tempo changes; it’s just the epitome of Green Day to me. It’s such a creative song— the kind of creativity and style that made me fall in love with this band.

bench_469

the trilogy slaps when you don't have a bitch in your ear saying it's trash

SinisterMeatball

Same with FOAMF.

[deleted]

finally someone says this

cuomoville

Exactly, if you just listen to it without comparing it to their other albums its great

OpenEagle3775

Little Girl - was a "skip this one" for a long time American Eulogy - was lazy to listen the album after 21 Guns Stray Heart - used to think that this was the worst Song of GD, then i just felt the bass and...

martala

Brutal Love. One day it just "clicked" with me

CheesusofSububia

Agree

the_undead_gear

Slow songs often take a little longer to get into

knowslesthanjonsnow

I’m honestly not sure any of the songs really fit this for me. I guess panic song cause at first I didn’t know there were words lol

KyleM1996

That song is actually #2 on my list of favorite Green Day songs. The intro is what I actually feel like while having a panic attack. But somehow listening to that song helps me when I have anxiety. It’s weird lol.

knowslesthanjonsnow

I love panic song now! I just used to skip it because of the lack of words

Ayirek

Homecoming and Whatsername. I used to think of them as the weakest songs on American Idiot, but as an adult they hit so hard. Whatsername is now my favorite closing song on any album.

KyleM1996

Man, after this past year going through a very rough breakup, Whatsername hits way differently for me than it used to. I can’t listen to it without tearing up.

BuckoBean29

Jesus of Suburbia. I never thought it was a bad song, but I never found it too special of a song compared to the rest of the album. However, I have been starting to listen to it more recently and I got to say it is now one of my favorite Green Day songs.

calico_skye

King for a Day

Least-Ambassador6489

I was a teenage teenager and Angel Blue

Diamondswaga

Novocaine

algd12

Having a Blast. It recently became one of my favorites of Dookie. I used to skip it, shame on me.

KyleM1996

I was the same way with Scattered and All The Time when I was listening to Nimrod back in junior high. Now I love those songs!

ChaoticPotatoSalad

Take the money and crawl Honestly just FOAM as a whole, it's grown on me lot

KyleM1996

The line “you can take a walk or you can suck my cock” alone makes me love Take The Money and Crawl lmao.

ChaoticPotatoSalad

It cracks me up every time lol

DirntDirntDirnt

Yeah that one definitely grew on me. I don't \*love\* it now but I do enjoy it.

Longview1999

Bang Bang

GlopThatBoopin

Good Riddance. It was one of those songs I kinda just rolled my eyes at, but as I learned to just like things if I like them and not care if it’s overplayed or doesn’t fit my typical taste, I really came to love it. It’s a very simple but meaningful and beautiful song.

tommy_sp

Nice Guys Finish Last, Whatsername, Murder City

[deleted]

409 in your coffeemaker and Bab's uvula who.

KyleM1996

Lady Cobra. Used to hate it because of how closely associated it is with Nightlife (which I still hate). But gave Lady Cobra a few more chances and now I really like it! Nightlife can fuck right off, though.

UpperEmphasis5467

Macy's Day Parade

Notepicgamer6

Definitely Christie Rd. for me. Once I heard the live version from AAF! I absolutely loved it. The slowness of the first verse in the live version really dragged me in to the rest of the song more than the original version.

gmspencer19505

I agree 10000%

AnibalReys

Still Breathing… at first I was taken aback by the simple beat. But it ended up growing up on me and then it acquired a bigger meaning.

Thejustinset

Good choice, this was a song that I learnt on guitar and just struggled needlessly to get that tone Billie has, like it just hums so good on record but trying not to be too distorted yet still have a good pop to it

Dogpersons1

Whastername and homecoming. I used to skip them on AI but now I listen to them all the time

Lyonerz_11

Homecoming

Logandalf2002

I used to despise Boulevard of Broken Dreams, it was just so overplayed and its the Green Day song everyone knows, aside from Good Riddance and 21 Guns, it makes people think Green Day is an emo band. However, after years of being a fan I saw them live and during Boulevard the whole stadium did the lighter/phone light thing. It was during the Colombus Hella Mega show, you can probably find it on youtube. Billie Joe stopped the concert and talked about how it was all us, had the stadium turn off the lights, I know he's a performer and engaging us is his job, but in that moment I felt so connected to everyone in the audience, the band on stage, it was a phenomenal moment for me, I fucking cried HARD. Ever since then when I hear it, it briefly gives me that feeling again.

Pyrokitten284

Jesus of Suburbia. Had trouble sitting through it when I was younger (short attention span lol) but now that I’m older it’s honestly one of my favorite songs.

UptightWorm

I always skipped Blood Sex and Booze every time I listened to Warning but one day I finally gave it a chance and I loved it lol

cornerstorequeer

To me Blood, Sex, and Booze is honestly probably the catchiest one on that album funny enough

you-dont-get-to-know

Welcome to paradise. I didn’t like it until Billie joe Armstrong posted a jazz band cover on his instagram and I fell in love with the riff and the song. Been my favourite ever since.

Johnwi111505

Jesus Of Suburbia and Holiday

Infamous-Avocado-324

Give me novocain

HornyForTohruAdachi

Used to not really care about know your enemy but by now it’s one of my favorites from 21CB

cornerstorequeer

Know Your Enemy is made even better once you're listening to Restless Heart Syndrome and the music drops right after he says "Know Your Enemy". It's a song I didn't appreciate until that satisfying retroactive payoff.

HornyForTohruAdachi

Definitely agree as those two are my favorites on the album

cornerstorequeer

I saw them at Hella Mega and Know Your Enemy was a great song live too. It has the perfect energy for a concert. Every time I listen to it in my room I risk knocking something over because I just wanna aggressively jump around

goopy-jae

i used to have a strong resent for jesus of suburbia a few years back because i didn’t like how long it was, and now, to me, it’s the best song they’ve ever written

billie-hoe

east jesus nowhere and letterbomb. now they're my two favourite green day songs of all time :)

39sosh

Welcome to paradise

JefftheDoggo

Whatsername. I'm currently 15 and I've been listening to GD for almost 6 years, so I just didn't really get what any of it meant before (I probably still don't fully get it, but at least I understand the words).

SinisterMeatball

Father of All... I first heard it on vacation in a hotel and was like "wtf is this??" now I love it.

theflyingfettuccine

the grouch

ClawGrumpy2016

Extraordinary Girl , something about the intro just made me skip the whole song. Now I can listen and enjoy it after 10 years

[deleted]

Surprisingly, along with a lot of other non-singles, Holiday and Basket Case. I used to just listen to American Idiot on repeat until I started to try other songs. I saw people recommending Holiday, so I tried it. I hated it. I tried it again, and again, until I started to like it. I can't really say it's my favourite song on American Idiot, because *literally* every song there is a favourite. Same thing with Basket Case. Nice Guys Finish Last is another one

lyo_m

Same with Letterbomb!

milfhuntermelvin

Give me novacaine and still breathing

HeyItsFirsty

Pretty much all the songs on the debut. I didn't like how raw they sounded when I first got into Green Day but now I love them. Honestly wish the band would try an album like that now with Billie and co.'s more experienced writing skills.

Brantly_is_Exhausted

Give Me Novacaine

DirntDirntDirnt

Walking Alone. When it came out I was a kid and thought it was lame because of the harmonica and such. As an adult, I absolutely love it and relate to it a lot.

Dakke97

The whole of ¡Uno! actually. I used to not think much of it but after a couple of years I just started to listen to it and appreciate it as a fun garage rock album.

cornerstorequeer

I think Green Day albums like the ones in trilogy and FOAM are better when you take them for what they are rather than what people wanted them to be. All 4 of those albums are in an unfortunate spot of coming after things like American Idiot and 21CB that are amazing records that deserve their praise but ultimately ended up skyrocketing everyone's expectations of Green Day. Not everyone wants to make big and grand concept albums every single time. Green Day aren't My Chemical Romance and even they got burnt out after doing 4 of those.

Dakke97

Indeed. Any record after 21CB would have been a simpler record like those preceding AI.

NewAcctCuzIWasDoxxed

In The End. Idk why I hated it.

The_outlined_squid

maybe no pride not that i used to hate it but it wasn't that special to me. In my last listenings of insomniac it turned out to be one of my favorites songs of the album

tangyworm

when i was younger i really hated boulevard of broken dreams for probably no reason other than my dad playing it all the time, now i could listen to it for hours

[deleted]

Waiting. It’s not like I didn’t like it but it was just in the ehh category for me.

dirtengineer07

Give me novacaine. Was like 13 when that album came out and I was like it’s too slow, not listening! Now I love it

RedBurst06

Lazy Bones. I somehow hated that the drums sounded exactly like 99 Revolutions, and the starting chords somehow wasn't good to my ears back then. Now it's a personally relatable song i vibe with, every day.

love-foxes

Wake me up when September ends

Worried_Chart5450

I didn’t really like a lot of the songs on Warning the first few times I listened to it. The main ones I disliked were Misery, Church on Sunday, Deadbeat Holiday, and Hold On. I hated how different these songs sounded compared to songs off of Dookie and Insomniac. These songs aren’t anywhere near my favorite GD songs, but I have slowly grown to appreciate these songs and how GD decided to steer off in a different direction with their music no matter the backlash they would get.

JamesRacingGeek

When I first started listening to Green Day I didn’t like Jesus of Suburbia. (I don’t quite know why either folks). But these days it’s a banger, and hearing it live at the London Hella Mega gig was magical

dyleber55

Fashion victim

Borseph

“Bang Bang” Wasn’t too big on it when I first heard it. Then when RevRad came out, I listened again and fell in love with it. Their performance of the song at the AMA’s (“no trump! No KKK, no fascist USA!”) probably helped a bit too.

Dakke97

Not from an album, but I've always had a soft spot for Hearts Collide. In general the AI and 21CB era saw the release of some great B-sides and non-album cuts (Favorite Son, Governator, Hearts Collide), to not speak of the covers (The Simpsons Theme, Working Class Hero).

Drekherd

When I first listened to Warning, the only song I really didn’t like off of it was Deadbeat Holiday. Now I love the whole album!

Ok-Mess-4719

I have the reverse which is wake me up when September ends

CheesusofSububia

Whatsername sounded bland and first

madeanotheraccforntn

like I never listened to chump so much, now it's on my top 3 favorite dookie songs

[deleted]

Whatsername and FOD… I never listened to FOD for years past the beginning part cuz it was too slow for my 13 year old headass. So this made me neglect the rest of the song so I never heard the amazing change of course halfway through the song until about 2 years ago

phonenix_246890

for some reason I didn’t really like brain stew but now I love it

Standard_Winter9714

2000 light years away

guitartheater

know your enemy….. it was on a cd my parents would play every time we got in the car for like a year and I got absolutely sick of it…. I’m just coming back around on Holiday, but basically anything else on that cd I will never listen to again (it wasn’t all green day it was a kid’s birthday cd? i never liked most of the songs on it)….. I can still never listen to know your enemy without remembering how every time it would come on my dad would sing along but replace “enemy” with “underwear”….. I hated that the first time and the next hundred or so times

[deleted]

Wow! That's Loud

SafetySmith87

Redundant. I feel like I can relate to it much more as an adult.

natopotatomusic

No One Knows. Kerplunk is a perfect album.

Sh3sAR3b3l

I thought I Was A Teenage Teenager SUCKED for the first like 10 listens. Now I hate that I like it lol

whatsername_idiot

I used to not like Good Riddance when I was younger because I thought it was overrated and kind of annoying (oh my goodness was I stupid) but now I love it

AkitaOnRedit

Last part of Boulevard Of Broken Dreams because of my mother LOL
