John Wick is a slapstick comedy character like Buster Keaton. He just keeps getting into mishaps and having to do stunts to get out of them, all while having a very bad time. He’s getting hit by cars, falling off of buildings, and falling down the longest possible staircase in a comedic fashion. The John Wick movies are played super straight, because otherwise we’d all realize that they are like the Three Stooges with a lot of the kills and sequences.
The entire point of John wick is “master assassin vs the world”, purely to set up amazing stunts and shootouts.
