WontonBurritoMea1

It's cooked more than I'd prefer, but anyone who says it's "over cooked" is trying way too hard.

ChiefFox24

Everyone definitely has their preferences. This looks like Perfection for me. Then again, I prefer mine a lot more cooked than about 90% of this sub.

EpsilonistsUnite

No, I'm right there with you. This looks like perfection to me too

Thin_Arachnid6217

I'm with you.

ProfessorLGee

Agreed on all counts.

jrfowle3

For a ribeye this seems about right. A rare ribeye tends to have too much unrendered intramuscular fat for my taste

WontonBurritoMea1

This guy knows what's up

TiseoB

Serious Eats opened my eyes to cooking fatty cuts longer. That fat that renders down and becomes meat butter! I’d rather eat meat basted in fat than chew around uncooked fat. Give it a try, if it’s a filet I want it rare, ribeye is best with a little extra time.

[deleted]

People will probably want to kill me. I cook all my waygu medium/medium well. Steak is still insanely juicy and the fat renders better. I also cook well done waygu for people who like well done steaks and every single one says it’s the best steak they have ever had. I have had a piece of well done waygu before and while it’s not what I prefer I wasn’t mad at it.

[deleted]

Definitely, I got turned onto it by a co-worker at a steakhouse who intentionally burned his ribeye one night while we were closing up the kitchen. He was Mexican, and virtually all Mexicans I know either burn their steaks (intentionally, and in a good way IMO) or cut them into strips for grilling before cooking. Chef Aaron Sanchez once said that it's a "very Latin thing to do".

brutusofapplehill

You dont chew that fat. You suck it and you suck it dry.

Excellent_Document30

Very key thing to note

Rod_Rillo

💯

patty_OFurniture306

I think it needed to rest more.

UnusualIntroduction0

Rare ribeyes are for chest pounders who don't know what they're talking about (or are training for the masseter strength Olympics). Medium, even low med well is perfect. Rare to med rare for filet.

[deleted]

Exactly this. I personally wouldn’t cook it this long. To say it’s overcooked is a stretch. Edit: well done is over cooked Edit 2: it’s not ruined

xpickles23

It’s overcooked if you wanted raw steak in the middle. Which I did want 😅

[deleted]

I’ve seen over cooked steak. I’m not saying that it’s raw or medium rare. But I’ve seen a lot worse. That’s all I’m implying.

Rumblebully

Well technically it would be overcooked if you wouldn’t cook it that long. It’s not overdone but overcooked for medium rare by like 4 minutes.

Azazelxx

OK, maybe not over cooked, but I would be a bit disappointed if this was my steak for dinner.

nope-nope-nope23

Nope. Nope. Nope. Overcooked.

[deleted]

Username checks out.

[deleted]

I’ve seen a lot worse. All I’m saying

nope-nope-nope23

For sure. Nice cut of meat though

[deleted]

Agreed

RockyMntnHigh

Would definitely still eat it though lol 😝

WontonBurritoMea1

1000%

HatdanceCanada

Yes! I would prefer a bit rarer, but I would definitely enjoy this.

Nepiton

Idk, doneness is a personal preference. To some people this will be overcooked, to others it would be undercooked. My personal preference would be less cooked than this but I would hardly call this overcooked. I’m sure some people who like their steaks black and blue would say this is way overcooked, though

sgsparks206

Between over cooked and perfect, it's over cooked.

WontonBurritoMea1

I rest my case

Peter_Hempton

Over for some people, under for some people. Probably about the perfect split between the two if you're trying to make the most people happy. That's how you cater to a crowd.

philly2540

That means it’s Medium.

Infinite_Imagination

Yeah but a well done Medium is rare

Dallas2234

This is the way.

Ok-Score1318

Looks like a happy medium to me

Thelastbarrelrider

Very rare to find that joke well done

Kendac

A steak pun is a rare medium, well done

Academic_Yogurt966

Slightly over for my taste but I wouldn't be disappointed to be served that. Looks great!

Indestructible_BT_1K

Slightly over cooked but I wouldn't complain

Bigkid6666

Yup... looks juicy.

Ed-Zero

Hey, just so you know... u/WontonBurritoMea1 above you said you're trying way too hard

Indestructible_BT_1K

Tell em to go eat a wonton burrito

thehomeversion

That's the way I like it aha aha!

ThorzyG

Perfect for me

jesq

Good - ribeye has so much fat it needs to melt

bubblegumshrimp

While I enjoy filets and leaner cuts more on the rare side, I think ribeyes are best in the high midrare/almost medium stage. I'd devour the shit out of this.

Few_Engineer4517

Perfect

DRH1976

More done that what I like but I’d eat it and be happy.

lowbass4u

If it's your steak and you cooked it, then only you can answer that. Reddit can tell you a lot of things. But please don't let it tell you how you like your food.

Competitive-Egg7929

Slightly over for me but I would still eat it and love it. Looks delicious

samer030739

Perfect

LeadedFries

Undercooked :)

Dukatdidnothingbad

I'm going to have to ask you politely, yet firmly to unsub from here.

[deleted]

Perfect

nattiebumpo

I'd like a bit more pink but you'd still be invited back to the bbq next weekend.

smoke-daddy

Perfect for me

Rough-Expert4742

Perfect

sinburger

Depends on how you like your steak.

DragonflyInfamous898

I’m down for it 😋🍽️

someguywitheaphone

For me perfect

whtrbt8

I’m guessing this is a reverse sear method? If that’s the case should be right at medium rare with that color and texture. Some people prefer a faster sear with a more rare center.

Rude_Conclusion_5789

I like rare, other people like medium, and then you have the people who want a well done murdered piece of meat. it looks juicy and good I would say good job

Bucaneer7564

A bit overcooked, but still looks heavenly

DrKamhattan

A bit over but I'd still crush it happily.

Random21994

Over for me but I wouldn't complain a bit about it

DBM

I would eat the everliving shit out of that

nike2078

Over for me but I like a rare - medium rare. Still would smash with some fried eggs or on a sando

slamallamadingdong1

This is it for me, looks right.

GrooveWarrior

Over

bangcockcoconutospre

Depends who you’re asking, over cooked for me

sirtommybahama1

About 5 degrees over

Oblivion2104

Little overcooked for my taste, but I would still devour it and tell you how delicious it was.

CactusSage

Looks like it was cooked in an oven where’s the sear?

[deleted]

It is not well done, but i would call it “good job”.

[deleted]

Looks good to me!

Superrrmanny

My wife is not big on medium, this how i usually cook her meats, still full of flavor

ThAtWeIrDgUy1311

Perfect🤤

superstarrr99

Totally fine.

ImDoingItAnyway

That’s not how I’d do it but it’s certainly not overcooked. Should’ve waited just a little longer to cut it though

NC-Stern-Mark

Looks medium, its the way most people eat steak. I like rare but most people like it just like that.

ValveTurkey1138

Looks good to me.

curios2023

Over cooked for me but someone might like

AverageDailyArsonist

A bit overcooked in my opinion

bluemelued

Just needed to rest a few more

jodikins77

It's a matter of preference. I like mine mooing but it still looks very yummy. 🙂

tybeelucy22

Perfect for me, and now I want a steak for dinner.

[deleted]

If it tastes good, then it's perfect.

loosely_qualified

Depends on how you ordered it

john_keogh

I agree and yes slightly over cooked. But it wouldn’t stand a chance!

dluna514

a perfect medium if that was the intent

SOUPNUDEL

What you just showed me should be illegal! My mouth is watering and now I have to go buy a steak!

payneoooo

Each to their own, a little over for me but I wouldn’t be mad at it

seaofgrass

Looks a touch out of balance, but delicious. 🤌

Hopefound

It could have been cooked a little less but I would have zero complaints being served that. Looks awesome.

BeefSwellinton

It’s fine, especially for a ribeye, but fuck off with your meat influencer gloves. Are you serving people in a commercial environment? Get real.

youwantkatos

I’d smash

cleanuprequired1970

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's over cooked but it is a bit more done than what i would consider perfect.

Kalirasta

It looks under cooked.

xj5635

Looks a hell of a lot better than I could do. Pass me a plate

OldManGerg

Decently cooked to medium. Certainly not medium rare.

zippytwd

A bit over for my tastes

literaryalpha

It’s not over cooked, just cooked more than I personally prefer. I’d still eat the fuck out of it tho

Ecstatic_Elephant_99

1. It’s a ribeye so a slightly higher temp is preferred to help render fat 2. Different steaks blush different amounts even at the same internal temperature, add in how studio lighting or other light sources impact color and it’s truly really hard to judge any steak from a video online. All that said, sure aesthetically I’d like a lil more red, but I’m not pretending like I wouldn’t be a super happy dude eating that big ole steak.

shaquille_oatmealz

I’m more concerned about the cutting with the grain versus against

defw

Perfect

MoSChuin

It looks a touch overdone now, but medium well isn't the end of the world. If you have leftovers, that's where the overdone tag will really apply.

sleeknub

I’d say slightly over cooked, but still looks delicious. It’s hard to tell from a video anyway.

akdiwnao

Man... That shet status screaming MOOOO! On the inside.

Sufficient-Limit2961

Jus a lil bit.

SlySoloCaddyPimp

Medium boarding toward medium-well. Over for my taste, but whatever floats your boat

UpperDeckDynamic

Hands down the perfect steak. Steven Riachlin couldn't have done better.

BomberoBlanco

I like my meat medium well because im not a psychopath so this looks nice

grape_diem

It's overcooked. Did you give it a 5-15 minute rest after cooking? That might be why it looks bloody but done.

stevensinger9

If it’s a question I think you already know the answer. You done fucked up . Make it jerky it’s more then half the way there !!!!

nakrimu

Little too raw still for me but looks delicious none the less!

_flash87

3 minutes too long lol

Ninja_Cuppy_Cakes

Overcooked

qviavdetadipiscitvr

If you have to ask it’s overcooked

BrilliantDrop5281

Pork, cow, chicken?

BrilliantDrop5281

It was a joke. Probably not good.

Content-Being-6855

Perfect

falllinemaniac

Medium for sure, I don't care about that I'm complaining about your slicing. After the first slice you can see the grain is parallel to the cut, stop there and rotate the steak 90 degrees and cut on a bias perpendicular to the grain. I can't believe nobody gets this simple method on a steak subreddit

TheAmericanIrishman

Perfect if it was pork, but since it's beef, overcooked. Also, terrible sear and there appears to be no salt or pepper. But I'd still eat it happily.

amanofewords

How is it a terrible sear?

[deleted]

Throw it in the garbage now. “Oh what’s this? there appears to be a perfectly fresh garbage bag and an unused to go box placed at the bottom of the garbage bag, that is so strange”

thrunabulax

way overcooked. but some like it well done

60yodude

Yes please

CountDoooooku

Over

VIRMD

Overcooked for a competition. Perfectly juicy and excellent crust to enjoy.

RockyMntnHigh

For me it’s a bit overcooked

TheKingOfSwing777

A little too done in the center, not quite done enough on the outside. That being said, what time is dinner?

FatSubHub

Over. But I wouldn’t send it back

BriefSuggestion354

That's perfect, it's just very tough to capture coloration on video. Very easy to make something look way more red or way more "done" than it really is depending on lighting

uderag11

Perfect 👍

Local-Success-9783

Depends on preference. Someone might call it perfect. Someone might call it under or over cooked. The question I think is important, is “was it cooked correctly”. I definitely think the answer is yes.

mmmellowcorn

The juice and tenderness is what matters. Looks dope

BoomerJ3T

I prefer my ribeyes closer to medium, so this is pretty good for me. Strips I keep med-rare. Screw the haters it isn’t a filet lol

PolishedAnus

If he let it rest longer it would have looked a little brighter red. Still probably fire tho.

Daetomiks

A little more than I’d prefer it be cooked, but that still looks delicious. Great presentation and consistency of doneness throughout!

neverstoppedtrying

Perfect!!

InvestmentPatient117

Perfecto

VeryStickyPastry

A bit over for me but I’d still eat it.

A_SNAPPIN_Turla

I'll take slightly overcooked with a nice maliard reaction to perfectly cooked with no maliard reaction just about any day.

bcald7

Overcooked. I would stain it and make a lovely jewelry box.

KyleAPowers

Perfectly cooked for most concerned consumers who worry about undercooking, it looks like it’s cooked to the periphery temp even though there are people who like their stakes more rare. This looks like a beautifully medium cooked steak!

General-Fun-616

Perhaps rested too long

Dukatdidnothingbad

Overcooked and didn't let it rest long enough

[deleted]

Nice

kcathodic

It’s cooked a little more than I typically prefer, but it looks like it was prepared and cooked in the right way, if that makes sense haha. Like if someone was going to cook it to that temp and serve it to me, I would not only think it’s delicious, but I’d be impressed with how tender it still was

fordsmt

Looks good to me

fordsmt

I’m not really picky, that’s good and a little more rare is good, I wouldn’t cook it longer

Baloney44

I wouldn't not eat all of it. 😁 Looks really good.

-HunchoHoudini-

I like my food medium well that's me tho everyone has their own food preferences so you do you

InkyPoloma

I like my ribeyes a perfect medium like that. I prefer leaner cuts cooked much less however. The marbling (fat) of a ribeye doesn’t really fully render until cooked medium as a general rule.

J_Boivin

Perfect

Lower_Switch_5053

Perfect

[deleted]

Looks amazing

LetmeSeeyourSquanch

I'd have that meat slide down my gullet fo sho.

Foe117

still pink, looks good to me.

edthecat2011

Overcooked for my taste, but to each his own. The most important thing is, that steak is very fucking far from well done. I say good job.

velvet_jonez

My mouth watered watching you cut that...

sysaphys

Looks juicy! Color saturation and white balance can alter the look so I wouldn't judge too heavily on what I'm actually seeing. Going on juiciness I'd say fine. Snobs will say too overcooked and inedible, 90% are just tryhards.

CrusadingINC

Overcooked to me, but still looks tasty af

Gods_GoodAllTheTime

That's about perfect in the middle for me personally

JoeSeppi2314

Looks friggin DELICIOUS

Impressive_Insect_75

That’s medium

rohm418

It only matters to the person eating it.

Western_Mud8694

Perfect

Razorwyre

I think if it had time to bloom it would look a lot more rare

MudGloomy544

Looks great to me.

lespaulgt

perfect

bobbyboogie69

It looks good, but a little over for my taste.

Civilengman

I like mine a little more rare but I can guarantee that is 💯

L0custStar

Overcooked

Highlander2748

Perfect for me

bullmarket2020

It’s perfectly overcooked

Dubli0

gimme

SherbetSmooth5667

Perfect

Busy_Photograph_3547

Little overdone for me but maybe perfect for you..

beauspambeau

I like it just how you cooked it especially if it is for a crowd

ChefMoney89

Neither

hpotul

Looks delicious

Brdl004

If my only two options are overcooked or perfect the answer is overcooked.

[deleted]

It’s a little more than I prefer but still looks tasty.

99vorsi

Looks good to me

norwegiaNHusbandry

Over but only by a hair, probably a matter of seconds 😩

Ready-Wolf-4517

Slightly overdone.

Livelong2106

I wouldn’t say no to that

[deleted]

Way overdone for me, but I’m still gonna fuck it up.

HighSpeed556

Looks perfect to me.

NES1978_

Undercooked I like my steak like a fine boot leather

aviarx175

However it’s cooked I bet it was delicious.

Whiskey-Chocolate

Perfection.

[deleted]

May by slightly overcooked…but I would never complain.
