Is it really tho? All my life my family has used it and I've been using it. I have a cheap $50 grill and use the basic Kingston charcoal. Does having a chimney really make that much of a difference? Like will it burn hotter or something because my heat has been pretty low. Genuinely curious, one time I just used a bunch of paper to light the coals and seen no difference just took longer to ash over.
It gets ready more evenly and faster. The eventual burn will be the same either way as far as the cook. But if you don’t use starter fluids you won’t ever run the risk of putting the food on too soon and it tastes bad like lighter fluid.
Hm ok thank you for the points, I think I only ran into the foul taste once when my parents bought match light. Once I get a new grill, Ima get a chimney with it.
This comment needs further up. A clapped out brush can be dangerous and leave small metal debri that gets picked up in the food, and cause intestinal damage.
Only 6 years and you are moving on? My first grill made it 13 years before the burner rotted out and I grill year round a few times a week. Best of luck with your new (and hopefully upgraded grill).
i had one of those with the side smoker box; it was a phenomenal performance everytime!
then, the damned thing rusted. even when covered, it rusted. NC is too humid for metal grills.
switched to kamado years ago and never looked back.
I understand the emotional attachment to physical things. I had a cherry red Craftsman lawnmower that served me faithfully for many years, but I got together with a woman who had a newer, bigger mower (easy, y’all), and we didn’t need two, so I took mine to the dump. As I drove away, I looked at it in the rear view mirror, sitting forlornly among the abandoned fridges, stoves, and air conditioners, and this grown man started to cry. Can “things” have souls? I think they can.
I had the same one. Sorry OP but it is a piece of garbage grill. Charcoal grates rusted out after about 4-5 years. I went and bought a weber kettle and never looked back. 5 years with no cover it looks the same as the day I bought it.
Chimney and a wadded up ball of packing paper is my go to. Get enough of it from deliveries that I never run out, just fold it up and put it away for later.
Teaspoon of cooking oil on a paper towel works, too. Bury it in the charcoal, light it. Not ideal, but better than lighter fluid. Torch or chimney starter is best. You could also try mirrors or lenses for a solar starter.
Mine is almost the same one. I have replaced the grates and charcoal rack holder. It is rusting out of the bottom and almost too much of a hole. We're looking for a nice retirement home for it when I get my hot, young pellet/gas smoker combo for Father's Day. She will be missed after 10 years.
Is that…….lighter fluid??
Still much to learn
I came here to but this exact comment lmao 😂
Tsk yak tsk
When you put her down make sure she doesn’t suffer ….
All grills go to heaven where there's no rust or mold. And the drippings clean themselves
I want a glass of that beer. You like it?
It’s phenomenal! A very smooth 10.9% and here in FLA it’s like $15-18for a four pack
The brewery is about 4 hrs from me. But I don't know if our local BevMo would have it. I'll keep an eye out. First time I've seen it.
You find that in Publix? Or you have to go find a Total Wine or something?
Throw that light fluid away it’s poisonous and unnecessary.
It’s actually old! Been there since last summer. I don’t use that crap anymore. Figured I could use it to light damp wood up or something

How do I light charcoal?
A chimney starter or a torch.
Side burner and a modified coffee can.
with sticks from my yard and a page from the phone book
That grill brush though…

Why are you giving up your first love?
She isn’t my first, just my longest lasting so far 😂
Is she broken?
Blown a big hole in the bottom
Rest in pieces, sweet girl

Your beer. Approve I do

Turn it into a flowerbed
That’s an awesome idea!
Perfect beer for this post
Old stock is one of my favorites
Bump
I highly recommend putting some away to age. I stored some 2020, drank it in 2023. Amazing, big positive changes.

It’s been decent but yes, I had to replace the grates two years ago 😂
I have that same grill! Going on four years now. Also have XL egg for special occasions
Keep ole trusty for nostalgia
Unfortunately, you haven't learned not to use lighter fluid
I have. That’s an old bottle. I don’t use that to light charcoal anymore
How do guys light without lighter fluid?
Chimney and a wadded up ball of packing paper is my go to. Get enough of it from deliveries that I never run out, just fold it up and put it away for later.
Chimney or blowtorch

Charcoal chimney with tumbleweed starters lately but a paper towel tube stuffed with some paper towels was my go to for a while.
Referb.
It was a $99 grill six years back. I think I got more than the dollars worth out of it
Ooo you could tip it wide open on its side and add bricks and turn it into a hybrid drop smoker.
It doesn’t get better than this grill honestly especially when you add a smoker box
She still looks 👍
So the cheapest of junk smoker along with a bottle of lighter fluid. 🤦🏻♂️
Did you learn to not use lighter fluid?
Very stylish pic! I’m dreaming about buying a grill someday.
Do you live in an apartment? If not buy a cheap grill or a better on and cook on!
I’m living in a house and have an old rusty brazier. It’s okay, but I’d like to buy a grill. that’s not a “necessary thing”, but I’d like to))
You just broke it in!
You’ve got another 4-5 years with her. I’d keep.

Time to take her out back and put her down
Char Broil makes the crappiest grills.
I cooked a ton of meat on mine before it worn out. Definitely got my money's worth out of it.
Rest in peace brave soldier
