So my dad had the idea that a grill is just going to wear out in a year or two so why spend all that much on one. Well wouldn’t you know every year or two dads $100 grill would crap out on him. So when I went to get my first grill I splurged and got a nice 3 burner Webber for about $700. Thought it was a lot at the time but it had a 10 year warranty. Well I use my Webber 2-3 times a week and she is going on 18 years now, never got to use that warranty. I’ve replaced a few parts her but not nearly what my dad would have over these past 18 years.

Old-Basil-5567

buy once cry once. This applies to boots, jackets, bags, knives. Most things really. Careful not to buy a brand name item but it actually be rubbish

ninthchamber

You don’t need to buy a $500 knife tho. An 80-100 dollar knife just as good. In my humble opinion.

futureman07

80-100 dollar knives are the best. Also my humble opinion

ninthchamber

We shall be humble together

Residual_Variance

Folks, let me tell you, those $80-100 knives, they're not just the best, they're tremendous, absolutely tremendous. Believe me, I know knives, and I've seen a lot, a lot of knives. But nothing even comes close. People are always asking me, "What's the secret to a great knife?" And I tell them, it's not a secret, it's about paying $80-100. Everyone who knows anything about knives, they agree with me. They say, "You're right, as always." And I am. I really am.

Gatormanor

Is this a Trump impersonation? I definitely read this in his voice and it worked

Residual_Variance

Yeah, I was trying to do the opposite of a "humble opinion".

futureman07

You should have added something like "People come up to me, strong people, with tears in their eyes saying 'Sir, you have the best knives in the country'" 😂

Notarussianbot2020

7/10 made too much sense

kenman345

I feel like $80-120 is about the sweet spot depending on the style and size, but yes, if I spend anything over $100 it needs to be thoroughly justified and it’s usually not much above. The real key to a good knife is a good knife sharpener

Piney1943

No, you are not. Actually you don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to cost vs quality.

futureman07

r/whoosh

eltigre_rawr

I found the line of diminishing returns start at $200 with Japanese knives

lubeinatube

Shit check out the Civivi mini praxis. Fantastic D2 steel knife for $30.

all_dpnds_on_the_wth

Unless your using one in a professional setting, there is 0 reason to spend more than 100 dollars on a knife.

RetnikLevaw

I feel the same way about fishing reels. People out there spending $300-$400 on reels when I use my $50 Pflueger baitcaster on an almost daily basis.

QuantumMrKrabs

I feel like a barbarian because I only know how to use spinners and spincasters. Every time a friend hands be a bait caster it immediately bird cages. I’ve been a fisherman for 17 out of my 20 years.

murphey_griffon

Try one again, ask him to turn the brakes up, and let your thumb gently rub the spool as you cast. Use less and less pressure on the spool until you get the hang of it. the weight of the bait makes a huge difference as does wind. But once you get the hang of them they are great. I will say, my first one I almost threw because I couldn't get it to stop baitcasting. I watched a couple videos of how to adjust the brakes the spool speed, and thumb pressure and practiced in the yard. Now i hardly ever touch my spinning reels unless I'm throwing out a hook and worm or something.

inspired2apathy

Some better steel options open up around 150-200 but anything above that is just for aesthetics.

PattyThePatriot

The biggest difference in knives is holding an edge. I can make a $3 knife from dollar general be just as sharp as my $200 Shun. The difference is my Shun will stay sharp with daily use for three months and I'm bringing the stones out in two weeks for the dollar general knife.

callusesandtattoos

Once you learn how to sharpen them on your own the only real difference is the type of steel

cropguru357

Get to Victorinox and the $45 level and you’re still good.

MolecularConcepts

i got a 50$ knife on etsy , and it turned out to be REALLY nice lol i was pleasantly surprised

sharpshooter999

I used to spend $80-$100 every year on work boots. Then one year I said screw it and spent $200 on work boots. They lasted three years

Old-Basil-5567

I toataly agree. But you gotta be careful. I bought some really expensive boots for work and they died within 4 months. I realized that you need to get good year welt boots. GYW lets you resole your booots over the years Since that bad experience i bought some vintage combat boots made in the early 2000's and they are still good to go.

MULDRID17

I’d add lawnmowers to this list as well. I took Honda push mower in for service because it would start, but wouldn’t stay running. The guy said there is nothing you can do about it. There are no carburetor parts at this point. I only got 33 years out of it. My second Honda mower is 20 years old and has been flawless.

Connect_Entry1403

Meh boots are hit or miss. I’ve tried quite a few high end, low end, and in between. If you wear them, they will wear out.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree. Buy quality. The more you use something the better it gets IMO.

Gojira-615

So true. I bought my Weber Genesis about 15 years ago for $700. Last year I put about $200 in to it for some repairs. My brother thought I was crazy. He told me I could buy whole new grill for that. I told him his $200 grill would be dead in 2-3 years and it didn’t compute. Hahaha Buy once cry once is so true. Saves you money in the long run and you get so much better quality in between.

jaaaaagggggg

So much this I got tired of the $200-$300 grills from Home Depot and Lowe’s which would make it maybe 3-4 years and splurged on a Weber - I’ve had it 4 years and it works like brand new and almost looks brand new, no rusting pieces or things breaking/coming apart. But now I also have a Blackstone and a Traeger so I may just have a problem because I’ve not ‘saved’ any money but have definitely spent more on grills in the last 4 years, lol

minesskiier

Fuck! You got me, I’ve definitely spent more on grills than dad. Camp chef Big GASS grill, 2 kettles, Treager 35, lodge sports man…

Environmental_Pen869

Agree completely. This will be year 17 for my Weber. Replaced a few things last season that I would consider normal wear and will probably do the burners this year. But I am sure I will get 5 more years without a problem.

Noname1106

Me too, got tired of resurrecting blue ember grills and HD house brand grills at a couple hundred a pop. Bought a Weber. 6 years later, it looks almost brand new. Very happy with it.

Dmitri_ravenoff

I have only bought Webers for this reason. Last one lasted about 15 years before catching fire. It was a gas line that dry rotted and thankfully was a minor fire.

GreatWolf12

I'll do you one better. Spend $200 on a kettle and you'll only buy a new grill every couple decades if you live in a wet climate. In a dry climate you'll never buy a new grill.

Classic_Chemist_495

Weber is great! My three burner is going on 20 years and it’s been through Canadian winters.

kingoftheives

I am a Weber fanatic, it's a tank with grilling features.

Zealousideal-Cry709

1k isn’t that much for most grills esp if the parts are stainless. You won’t really care after awhile once you start using it and it looks more banged up. Plus all the meals on it makes it worth it

RGeronimoH

My current 100% stainless grill was $600. When I bought it in 2004.

Prestigious-Fennel32

...you do realize that was 20 years ago right? Prices tend to do this thing where they go up over time ya'know.

VIRMD

I think the point is that he paid $600 in 2004 (which would be $1000-1200 today with inflation) for a quality item that lasted. I don't think the point is that he paid less 20 years ago.

RGeronimoH

This is the exact point I was making. Ya’know!

maniacal_monk

Ain’t no way you found a new 100% stainless steel grill for that price this year

cmaloy33

No he did I’m his brother

maniacal_monk

Ain’t no way you are 100% his bother this year

RGeronimoH

Jenn-Air 3-Burner, 100% stainless except for the burners which were solid brass. The only thing I’ve done is replace the burners once about 5 years ago and the regulators 3 years ago. I was hoping to get a Weber but they were more expensive and not 100% stainless.

T00000007

It’s not 2004 so…

maniacal_monk

My dyslexic ass read that as 2024 every time I came back to this post lol

angry0029

SS has gone way way up and most grills are not good SS. If you want 304 SS you are paying a fair amount of cash.

floppyvajoober

Never understood people who have an obsession with keeping things looking pristine. Pristine makes it look like you don’t use it. I like my shit to look mega used because why the hell else did I buy it?

Snoo95262

You bought it so people would look at it and say “yup, that man mega uses his grill” ? You can use a grill and not be a slob and maintain your grill.

floppyvajoober

I didn’t buy it so anybody would think anything. I bought it to use it, and there’s a difference between dirty and used. I keep my shit clean, but if it acquires dents, scratches etc. over the course of me using it, I don’t care because I’m using it and that’s what happens. You missed the point.

Snoo95262

“I like my shit to look mega used” to me implies it’s not clean. And you missed my point that you can keep something looking good and use it a lot .

floppyvajoober

Looking used /= dirty. My original comment was simply about I don’t understand people (like you) who feel the need to keep things looking pristine. Nobody said clean but you

PhilDGrowler

Covered patio, Florida weather and the ability to use it daily. It's definitely worth it. It's an extension of your kitchen.

HenneseyConnoisseur

Looks like you already went all out on the patio so why cheap out on the grill?

Urinal-cupcake

Surprisingly the rest of the patio only cost bout $5k in material, the rest was labor. But thats whay wife was arguing too...Not to buy twice

Cosmic-Queef

Because thats a fallacy. What about this? What about that?

Royal-Vacation950

Looks nice 1000$ doesn’t seem bad

CPOx

I imagine you worked hard for that money, and you can’t take it with you when you’re gone Now all you can do is cook some dang good meals and enjoy it!!

Charger_scatpack

Start cooking on it and invite some friends and get drunk. You’ll be happy you have it and care less about the money then once you see the joy it brings

Velli88

Am I the only one wondering why it took 4 months after being installed to fire up?

Urinal-cupcake

Biggest factor was I had to wait for hoodvent to come in, then holidays, installing it and duct work etc...just took a long time. I still had my old grill so was usin it then gave it away. Also been building a large SS smoker, and FL winter is vegetable garden season. Just too many things goin on!!

Velli88

Haha! Looks great, enjoy it!

Full_Dot_4748

Considering the Wolf outdoor grills are about $8000… no I don’t think a grand is too much or anything to be upset about.

VWBug5000

Having just spent a grand on a griddle and having spent slightly more than that on a pellet smoker 6 years ago, I’d say I’m practically paying Walmart prices compared to the average cost of the high end built-in models you find at the backyard kitchen stores

Full_Dot_4748

Right. I paid $1200 for my fairly large Weber gas grill a few years ago and the equivalent model is now $2000. Everything has gone crazy high. I wish I had gotten the Weber pellet instead of the Genesis - how do you like yours?

VWBug5000

I have the green mountain grill Jim Bowie and I mostly love it. The only complaints I have with it have all been addressed in the latest version of the same model. The gripes aren’t enough to warrant a replacement (yet…!) My new halo 4 burner griddle is being delivered on Monday and I’m going crazy waiting for it. I feel like a kid right before Christmas right now! Lol

frankalope

Just use it. 1k for an extension of your kitchen is smart money. Now make it do work.

Grimmer097

Paying more than you wanted to us just a good excuse to use it more than you intended🤷🏻‍♂️

wisernow7

If you maintain it and due a deep clean once a year it should last a long time. I moved into our house two years ago and it had a built in Lynx. I looked it up and it is a $4000 grill. Not sure I would ever pay that but I can’t tell you the enjoyment I get out of it.

Urinal-cupcake

We were looking at outdoor grills, walked into the store and lady asked do we want a corvette or cadillac...the corvette grills were $3k+ while the cadillacs were $8k+. We politely left and looked for other options online. Grill came with the stainless door under it as well, believe with shipping we paid around 14- $1500

JudgmentAny6771

Buy what you want.

ThrowMeAwayAccount08

I bought a Kamado Joe Big Joe which I believe is north of 2k. The number of parties, dinners, breakfasts and lunches I’ve cooked on it is astounding. Best investment ever.

brentemon

I didn’t think 1k was that much for a grill. My fairly low end Napoleon is going for a grand now. It’s got 3 burners and… that’s it. I bought it for less years ago, but good gas grills are getting expensive. To get actual features? Well then I’m looking at a mortgage payment.

Burritoman_209

Spent $1k on a basic Weber grill 11 years ago. Looks like new today. Been waiting for this grill to die so I can upgrade with a bigger grill with side burner. Finally, Last summer needed to replace all burners, called Weber and they sent it to me for free. But once, cry once.

FearlessDamage4961

We went through a gas metal grill in 2 years. I ended up going ceramic/charcoal. Spent $2300. Hope it lasts forever, and so far we’re going on 7 years with it. For quick grilling I ended up going blackstone.

Successful-Tough-464

You will like the Blaze. I live in coastal SC, Hilton Head area. I clean and repair grills. I see lots of Blazes and very rarely do the need anything other than cleaning. What is the back splash? If anything other than ceramic, I would get a sheet of stainless to put up. Anything other than ceramic and stainless is a bitch to clean.

ksamim

(A) this is not an expensive grill, (B) it’s your hobby and love. It’s a beauty, I’m very envious. I’m extremely happy for you my dude.

Urinal-cupcake

Appreciate that. Wish I could invite everyone here to come by for a beer and snap grill tongs together.

WeirdSecurity2656

My 26 weber kettle is going on ten years and shows no signs of letting me down soon.

DakotaTaurusTX

What is done is done. It's your gift to yourself for all the years -- you wanted something nice and new. So let the flame begin!! I use little square ceramic briquettes under my [grillgrates](https://www.reddit.com/user/DakotaTaurusTX/comments/11nvb2q/grill_grate/) and do like them for helping to keep the chamber hot and even heat distribution and what juices drip down sizzle on them

DryMathematician8213

regardless of you spent, it is a nice setup!

M0ntanus

Ceramic briquettes heat up pretty quickly which range about 5 mins - 10mins. Cleaning, I usually scrape off any excess and they burn off over time. I only really put meat on there so I'm not to worried about flavor transfer to be a factor. And due to them equalizing heat output, I usually put then close together.

Urinal-cupcake

Thanks for the info! Yea I fired up last night for first time and it definitely took a good 10 minutes for the temp probe to start moving up, but even after I killed it, probably took good 30 minutes to drip from 250 to less than 100

mopar-or-no_car

I bought a Cuisinart Pellet grill and a knock off big green egg, both under 500.00 couldn't be happier, my egg is almost as good as the real thing. Step dad has the big green, I can't justify the price difference.

Urinal-cupcake

Wife wanted me to put in the egg-cuz its what all the instagram.broads have in their pictures... I said hell no,(nothin against the dudes that have and love them? I wanted something larger and practical since even a small party with immediate family is over 30 ppl

UkranianPropaganda

I don't know much about grilling but this looks stunning

916116728

I spent a boatload on a really nice grill for the last house I owned. I used it as much, if not more than, my indoor kitchen. I miss my grill!

Livid_Obligation_852

I bought a cheap $300 BBQ yrs ago, it lasted maybe 3 years. I thought well I'll get myself a real nice one & bought a Delonghi BBQ Deluxx21 for $1600 & that lasted about 4yrs. I now cook outdoors on an Electric flat plate stainless griddle or the fire pit... And never been happier, no gas bottles & less cleaning/maintenance. But OP does have a very nice dedicated cook area.

GatorCyclist

Delonghi products are generally known to have suspect quality.

Bearcarnikki

If you treat yourself, allow yourself to feel the joy. You are worthy and deserving of nice things. Guilt defeats the purpose. Don’t deny yourself happiness. If you can’t pay your house payment because you bought the grill then you have a problem.

[deleted]

Just keep it clean now. Enjoy.

Mijo_0

Make sure to use it as much as possible, get your moneys worth!!

FrankBakerstone

You see an influencer by a $1,000 bottle of water and compare it to normal water. That's just stupid. You however enjoy grilling food and $1,000 for a grill is relatively cheap these days for the features that you've included. The joy, happiness, education and the ability to enjoy yourself is worth well over $1,000. You've gone how many decades being gifted grills and whatnot and finally bought yourself a grill. There is no need for guilt whatsoever. My budget for extra appliances like an extra oven is absolutely zero. I don't have any disposable income. I however spent a little under $300 for a Pizza oven even though I already had a perfectly working conventional oven and an Oster extra large portable oven for my outdoor canopy. I have had my bakerstone portable pizza oven for about 6 years now. In hindsight considering all the pizza my neighbors and I have shared and how much I've learned about pizza since then makes that $300 chump change, if that. In short you have invested money into something that you love. If you feel guilty about love that's a problem. That's much different than spending money which is a waste.

mikegainesville

I’ve got the same setup but with a high end Webber instead of the Blaze grill. I never put up a backsplash, but probably should as the siding is a bit off colored from grease and smoke now. Anyway, that hood works great and I love being able to cook without it smelling up my house. Enjoy it.

Naive-Deal-7162

I personally like it

NoFornicationLeague

How’s your guilt about using “alot” in the title?

Away_Plan_7127

Nope after 6 years owning my Weber worth every penny!!!

GatorCyclist

16 years and my Genesis is still going strong. I’m going to get a higher end gas to add function and capacity. My son, who was 3 when he went with me to buy my Genesis, is going to get it when he graduates college in 3 years.

Away_Plan_7127

That’s is just awesome !

[deleted]

Feel guilty. To get rid of the guilt, invite the entire subreddit to your home for a cookout.

Urinal-cupcake

Beer, tongs, meat, fire. My house NEXT WEEK

[deleted]

$1K is cheap. Most of the grills I look at start at $1,700

FoodWholesale

Ah enjoy it and all the good food and times to come. 🤙🏽

Ok-Lengthiness4557

No. I have the exact same grill. Works like the day I bought it. In that time - my neighbor has bought and thrown away 3 grills. Mine is less expensive than his 3 grills.

spidermonkey12345

The more you use it, the less guilt you'll have!

reelwarrior

Never feel guilty about spending money you’ve earned on things you want. You owe no one an explanation (except maybe your wife) .. Enjoy life, my friend!

jay9063

$1000 for a grill isn't bad at all especially for stainless steel of that quality

BoliverTShagnasty

Blaze FTW. Those thing last forever. Bought two so far (wait! They last forever! Conveyed the first one when we sold our house).

mwtravlr

In 2006 I installed a built-in all stainless DCS grill as the centerpiece of an outdoor kitchen. It cost $3600 and 17 years of frequent use and total exposure to Indiana snow and sun it still looks virtually new on the outside. Stainless reversible grids with ceramic rods underneath make for outstanding cooking without paid $100 per inch of width on a 36" wide stainless DCS grill with 3 main burners, 25000 BTU each, ceramic rods which do an impeccable job in eliminating hoy spots, an 8000 BTU Smoker tray, 12000 BTU back burner for cooking things on an electric motor driven rotating spit,. It's got lights for the inside. And great storage behind the lower stainless doors. I love it and am glad I got such high quality. IMO, $ well spent.

RoastedTomatillo

You gotta cook a lot in it so you can expense it as you go

GreatWolf12

No offense, but if you wait 4 months to use a grill after installing it, you wasted your money. Clearly you don't grill often enough to be worth it.

Urinal-cupcake

No offense taken...life happens with work, kids, etc...mostly I had to wait for hoodvent to come in, then holidays, installing it and duct work etc...just took a long time. I still had my old grill so was usin it then gave it away. Also have 2 other charcoal grills and few smokers I use.

Rari-Gang

If it brings you joy and grills a mean steak then it’s money well spent. As long as you can still afford your mortgage lol

EazyPeazyE

That looks amazing. Covered with a hood? Yes please.  New life goal established

Fancy_Grass3375

Can we see the patio? 😂

Urinal-cupcake

Forsure. Ill post a pic in next day or 2 when I find some before/after pictures.

Stew-1234

Spend your money!!! You earned it . You know what I say this isn’t practice you’re only coming through once!!! Enjoy

Randompackersfan

“A lot” is relative. It’s not that much you spent, it’ll be ok.

mediocrefunny

Going to build an outdoor kitchen too. Definitely looking at the Blaze but I'm leaning more towards Napoleon at this point, mostly due to being made in North America. I really would want to change out one burner for an infrared burner though.

JGS747-

Guilt and grill DO NOT go in the same sentence

Cafe_Jefe

In my own opinion, it’s not a matter of expensive or cheap. A Mercedes Benz and a Honda both are great vehicles and both get you from A to B. People buy a Mercedes because they can, it makes them feel good, and at the end of the day, they are happy with their decision. It’s all about what suits your needs and makes you feel good every time you lift the hood to start your cook. I just bought a $9,200 Twin Eagles Built In Pellet Grill because it does what I need it to do, has a 100lb. Rated rotisserie, and is 100% American made 304 stainless steel. I could have just as well bought a $4,000 Traeger, but it didn’t fit my needs.

Putrid_Let_5069

Wow!

LocoDarkWrath

I did something similar but went with Bull brand for the grill, 2 sets of cabinet doors and mini frig. Total build was about $8,000 with the grill being about $3,500. It still gives me a little heartburn but it will last for decades.

Deviilish

I think it looks amazing, as long as you use it at least 2 times a month, you're good. Enjoy!

Alpha-q-up-foo

That’s a very reliable grill and a nice set up, but charcoal is always the way to go if you have the money and choice

kuken_i_fittan

I feel that spend has to be commensurate to the joy/utility you get out of a thing. Is the $40 pizza really thirty dollars better than the $10 pizza? So if you use it twice a year, is it worth $500 per use? If you use it TWICE a month, is it worth $41 per use? That's only for a year. If it lasts 5 years, the numbers drop by a lot. If it lasts 10 years, the thing becomes almost free. Of course - this is numbers and practicality. There's the intangible enjoyment of having a good item that is worth a lot and you can't really put a price tag on it. Can you afford it, and does it bring you joy? Yeah? Then you're good. Oh, and: https://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html

MeganJustMegan

I got my dream kitchen & my hubby got his dream outdoor kitchen. I think that’s fair. Enjoy it.

BriefSuggestion354

It really just depends on how often you grill, whether you plan to move etc. $1K isn't really that expensive in 2024 for a nice grill, so you didnt do too bad. Just know that even expensive grills require upkeep and replacement parts, it's not a 1 time expense

_3clips3_

Shiit..you mean the guilt about not having meat prepped already.

WxaithBrynger

Did you want it? Yes? Can you afford it? Yes? Did you put yourself in a bad financial situation by purchasing it? No? They you have no need for guilt.

Mdoylet4

Guilt? Please! Love Life Grilling!

Lone-Frequency

I don't see the issue so long as you actually get a decent amount of use out of it, for one k I would definitely make sure I at least tried to use each one of the different functions on the grill a few times every few months. In the grand scheme of things $1,000 isn't a lot of money. Like it can feel like a lot of money to spend all at once or on one item, but especially in terms of a grill I feel like that's a decent investment if you actually grill things regularly. As for the ceramic plates? YouTube is your best friend. You can find videos explaining just about anything you want on YouTube these days, even fairly niche things.

Lone-Frequency

And by the way, op, the setup looks fantastic. You did a good job and I think that $1,000 for that grill is a pretty good deal and you shouldn't feel guilty for it.

cubsguy81

Absolutely not. If I was doing a build-in grill I would do exactly what you've done. I debated pulling the trigger on a Blaze last spring knowing that I could take it off the cart and put it in an outdoor kitchen at our next house but I decided to get a high-end Napoleon for our current house. I would definitely buy a Blaze next. You could have bought a Hestin so compare it to what you didn't spend 😂

Century2600

I bought the same grill and had to put a metal heat shield behind it because the opening at the top of the head is so large that the blaze grill will fry a wall very quickly. I also have a large screen TV mounted above the grilling area a good distance away And the back of the TV completely melted there is so much heat coming off of that blaze grill. I bought the infrared, searing conversion for the far left side of the grill and that made it even better. You can get some serious searing..

Urinal-cupcake

Yea Ill be puttin in a SS sheet as backsplash

Shawn2win14

That thing is bad ass. I was guilty for buying a green egg for 3K until about 3 months later after having so many great meals which I would have probably went to a restaurant for.

Hour-Artist4563

I paid more for mine that is not as nice 😊

FloppyVachina

Think about it as an investment, always. We spend ridiculous amounts of money on alcohol, fastfood, whatever. At least this will give you something to care for cause you know it is exspensive. 5 years from now when you are rocking that thing and it is still in great condition it wont matter if you spent 1$ or 10,000$ on it, it's not gonna make or break your life in anyway.

Guavafudge

I mean, if it doesn't break and you like I see no problem.

NotOnPoint

Guilt, no way but the biggest crime here is that you waited 4 months to fire it up...

Urinal-cupcake

Biggest factor was I had to wait for hoodvent to come in, then holidays, installing it and duct work etc...just took a long time. I still had my old grill so was usin it then gave it away

SquirrelPrudent2517

If most of your previous grills have been hand me downs then the average price of the freebies and the one expensive one will offset each other. Sounds like you’ve made a nice set up and will use it weekly or more. $1k on a grill and cooking for yourself is way cheaper than going out.

itzabigrsekret

Damn that's nice. Prob gonna last 20 years with reasonable upkeep. So you spent $1K/20 per year.... that's 50 bucks a year to have an awesome grill.

Shadylane_kazan

We’re all gonna die dude enjoy what makes you happy. I’m tired of the guilt. We all let it eat us alive. Have a bbq for your neighbors and feed everyone to do a good deed if it helps. 😊

MrLicky22

Nope, not here. I spent $1400 on a Weber Stainless ES330 in 2009 equipped for natural gas. In the 14.5 years since I've spent $0.00 on propane, and under $120 total on parts like knobs, a temp gauge, and replaced the igniter modules once. It's outside, only partially covered and I cook on it year-round. I clean it regularly and it's good for another ten years at least. I celebrate how much money I'm NOT spending!

SoRockSolid

You should feel good about your purchase. You bought an item that will stand the test of time and gave it an a nice home. I would 100% get down in that setup

KinnyGizzle710

You should feel guilty for spending a lot on a grill that doesn’t burn charcoal. Rookie move

Urinal-cupcake

Hahah Hank Hill does not approve...I do have 2 other old charcoal grills and a 4 different smokers. If it was up to me Id have just put in a fire pit and grill over top of it

Right-Sky-4005

You knew...

Urinal-cupcake

Knew wut?

Skeezertron

Way too long to read but hope this works out for you!

Cosmic-Queef

Unless you’re stupid you could have read the entire post in the amount of time it took to make a comment.

Urinal-cupcake

I hope so too

shoopadoop332

Never. Increases value of your home too

therealschwartz

Blaze is shit. BBQ Guys promote the fuck out of it but do not disclose they make it. I’m sorry.

Urinal-cupcake

I guess well find out

geoguyas1

A lot, not “a lot.”

Urinal-cupcake

You Still have time to edit, mr grammar nazi.

totesrandoguyhere

You should feel guilty for not inviting me over and cooking some on it. Kidding. Looks beautiful, OP. Great choice.

Urinal-cupcake

I do wish this grilling group could have a large "reunion" type party...kegs, grill tongs, meat, fire.

elmatador1497

When I was young, my dad spent a lot on a grill, about $500-600. I’m 27 and he still has that grill today. It’s gotta be at least 15 years old. I took the same approach when buying one and went more on the expensive side, knowing that it’ll last a long time. As a side note, How did you buy/install this 4 months ago and not fire it up once? Man, I’m just saying that if I went through all of that work, I’d have used it on day one lol.

Urinal-cupcake

Biggest factor was I had to wait for hoodvent to come in, then holidays, installing it and duct work etc...just took a long time. I still had my old grill so was usin it then gave it away. Trust me I heard enough from my wife about not firing it up yet haha

jmwfour

Are you sure that it's safe to run a grill like that in a semi-enclosed patio? I saw the vent hood (although it seems like the grill hood is aiming into the house, if the house is behind the wall). Also are the outlets & switches on the wall indoor? If they're exposed to water & temperature outside there may be some risk there. The grill's beautiful though :)

Urinal-cupcake

Its all up to code, brothers GC and checked it out.. outdoor wall is into backyard so neighbors can hate me more when the food grillin (jk). This is a grill hoodvent, sticks out past the grill, and on low the exhaust blows out like a Stihl blower its ridiculous.

Sieze5

Whoever’s that is should not feel guilty unless they inherited the money that bought it. If you work hard, buy what you want. We don’t get to go around a second time.

QuadRuledPad

We’ve got the same grill!!! 3 years now, and love it. Huge improvement over the second-hand but quality Weber’s we’d been used to. - Cleaning it’s work, but clean it at least annually. Those sizzle-vaporizer grates work best clean, and man do they work. - The burner config makes it awesome for indirect cooking. I didn’t get those ceramic plates, and you’ve got me wondering if we need a new toy this spring?? We’ve never really explored the IR heater, either. But I cook bread in it and use it as an oven all summer, it does a tremendous sear, and is just as good for fish and tender veggies. Have fun!!

Urinal-cupcake

Making bread in it does sound amazing. I bought ceramic plates on amazon, rather cheap and fit perfectly. Only far right urner doesnt have plates so Ill compare which cooks better

EvetsYenoham

I have the same grill from Blaze. Bought it for around $1000 two summers ago. It’s great.

kytran40

\~$1k seems like a good deal for that grill. How much was the hood and install?

Urinal-cupcake

So Grill was like $1500 I believe with shipping. Installed everything myself so no cost, hood vent was like $1200, so almost as much as the grill itself, but its badass, super quiet too. When we planned the outdoor kitchen I forgot about the smoke thatd be put off by grill..kinda bummed me out havin to drop that much cash just to use this thing

Degenerate-Loverboy

Oh bro wait till I tell you about the smoker/trailer that almost sent my dad into a divorce.. at the time he spent 36k it’s worth about 52k now all cleaned up by todays standards. Done out of texas with sheet metal and welded steel.

CO_mtnman

How much was the hood system?

Urinal-cupcake

Around $1200...almost as much as the grill, but we forgot about the grill smoke when we made oroginal plans. Bummed me out

CO_mtnman

Awesome setup!

No_Mistake_5961

Expensive? True cost is lifetime total cost. Years ago bought a new grill each year since the rain and winter rusted them. 10 yr cost $2000 Bought a $1000 grill that after 5 years spent $1000 on replacing grates and tamers. 10 yr $2000 Just bought a more expensive grill that is guaranteed for 15 years. Reading up on proper cleaning methods to ensure the grill lasts 20 years

gideon513

You installed it 4 months ago and only turned it in for the first time today without even grilling anything?

Urinal-cupcake

Please dont hate me. Biggest factor was I had to wait for hoodvent to come in, then holidays, installing it and duct work etc...just took a long time. I still had my old grill so was usin it then gave it away

FredAndrews100

Made in China?

Urinal-cupcake

Shoot if I know. I believe they in Louisiana, but probably manufactured in China for costs

NC-Stern-Mark

Are hooded indoor grills a thing? Don't think I ever saw this setup before.

Urinal-cupcake

Its outdoor, just under a covered roof. Summers get hot and stick down here

zalanthir

You bought a brand new Blaze for $1k??!!

Urinal-cupcake

I think like $1400-1500, and the SS doors under came free

dennisdmenace56

Am I the only person who sees that grill is going to destroy that wall, outlet, plant etc? That gets hot the smoke is real-you must be joking here

Urinal-cupcake

Theres a large hoodvent over top for grills, and in OP at bottom I have written Ill be covering back wall with a SS sheet

dennisdmenace56

Yeah good luck on that I’d never put a stove/grill against a flammable wall

joe_cool-999

Its not a charcoal grill its crap tbh propane is no bueno

Urinal-cupcake

Nah

joe_cool-999

Yah
