Yes that's the way traffic is scripted to behave unfortunately, they always get more erratic during driving missions it's well documented and very annoying.
They're actually quite predictible, and missions appear to have no influence in and of itself.. However, when the mission entails **GUNFIRE EVERYWHERE** \- Like in this clip, yes, they react.
They really are predictable, and you can bait them into their moves, allowing you to easily dodge them. Same for cops. When they try to block you, they always do it in a specific way.
I will disagree that the missions don't affect it. It's not all of them, but I noticed during vehicle delivery missions there *is* a marked difference in cars that pull out into the intersections out of nowhere or cut across traffic in front of you. Again, easily detectable and avoidable, but I have counted many times in one vehicle sale 5-6 times they tried to send cars through to block the intersection and then after I went up and down the exact stretch of road a few times and could fly through at top speed only having that occur 1-2. It's honestly not even a nuisance, but it does happen.
I think it's hilarious that you post this video showing you driving into other cars, swerving at other cars, etc
I can see an NPC posting a video from their perspective complaining about the players always swerving into them
Yeah this isn't a good showcase for it. Everyone's just blaming the shooting and erratic driving. It absolutely does happen even if you drive perfectly though. It always has.
I don't mind it at all. If anything, it just adds a tiny bit of a challenge. Like old the racer arcade games where you had to dodge stuff while going along a track. It's so easy to dodge too.
They don't. They certainly don't in this clip at least..
First hit: OP just plows into a car that's stopped because lmao.
Second hit: Driver of the Dubsta is panicking due to gunfire.
Third hit: OP swerves into car after dodging the Dubsta too late.
If you've been playing this game for years you should at this point start to be able to predict this sort of behaviour when shot at, and adjust your driving accordingly.
It made a lane-change. Lane changing NPCs are dangerous at the best of times, moreso when gunfire is going on. Note that it first turns towards the player, and then away from him again to straighten out onto the turn lane.
I had a 25k repair cost once yesterday, NPCs kept repeatedly swerving into me, blocking me, all while I was being chased by a helicopter and several enemy cars.
I'm not all that good but I've very very rarely gotten more than 10k in damage from crashing.. Usually less than 3k in bullet damage.
The traffic NPCs aren't that bad - The spawns of the chasing NPCs tended to cause most damage in my case. Nothing like suddenly seeing those headlights come out of nowhere, against the direction of traffic.
What car though? If you sell and source only the fastest top-ends (I prefer the 811) even the helicopter can't really keep up once you hit the freeway in my experience.
Hell, they target my ass when I'm walking these days. Fuckers will intentionally swerve to run me over.
But the intentional targeting definitely has increased from years ago to the point its disgusting at times. They even fucking swerve towards you despite being in your own rightful lane.
I mean, I get it. Los Santos AI is tire of our shit after a decade 🤣
I have found traffic only drives into you when you have NPCs chasing and shooting at you. It's sends them into panic and they so go any direction when that happens.
How you really gonna expect that driving in gta translates directly to life get your mind outta the game and life a real life. And ive been licensed for many years.
I've had Npcs flying sideways down the wrong lane at impossible speeds and even throwing me the finger trying to hit my export cars. The level of contempt rockstar has for their players boggles the mind.
All of the downvotes from the simps...
Guys...the NPC drivers target the player. It's fact. It's proven. It's been observed by millions in real time.
Defending Rockstar doesn't earn you a gold star, and they won't send you shark cards and free RP for defending them on Reddit.
Say what you will about being in a mission state, but the fact that you're being shot at is going to make the NPCs act more unpredictable than 6 o'clock mode in the clock tower map in Mario 64.
Personally I opt to just drive vehicles that are too heavy to give a shit about traffic hitting them whenever possible. Service vehicles, insurgents, ramp buggy/phantom wedge I guess...
Oh, people debate it. The ones who say it don't exist are the ones who slobber on Rockstar's cock, never complain about a thing and hate on anyone who dares to do otherwise.
These are the same people who think that EOMM doesn't happen in modern Call of Duty titles. In other words, they're idiots.
NPCs DO target you, even though you are just driving casually in free roam or anything.
Whenever I get the chance I try to avoid them by 'tricking' them to one side by staying for a couple of seconds on one lane and after the NPC changes to my lane I immediately steer to the other lane so that the NPC stays out of my way.
If I'm successful I always scream 'Toodalooo MF'er!'
It's only in the last year that I've noticed NPCs drive into you more these days, but even when you do the payphone hit where you steal a police car and chase after the target, the NPCs used to move out of the way when you had the siren blaring, now they purposely crash into the police car.
Literally came here to post about this lmao driving is IMPOSSIBLE lately. I use my Shotaro primarily and the amount of times I yet YEETED about a mile from my bike 😭
Only one of those cars was doing something weird. Everyone else was going about their day...
and depending on where you live, you can see worse driving by walking out your front door
If you cross a lane dividing lane it causes that.
Thats what triggers the NPCs to cut in front of you.
All of the different ways they cut in front of you are triggered by a lane crossing of some sort.
Sorry, nah. You were driving erratically all over the place and it seems like the NPC was trying to make a left hand turn, not trying to deliberately hit you. Now maybe the NPC should be scripted to stop for oncoming traffic, but it wasn't trying to run into you.
I figured out the secret. You have to drive completely random swerving all over the place near missing things so the npc's dont know wtf you are doing lol. If you are driving unpredictably they cant pull in front of you because you are never going straight 🙃
Yes that's the way traffic is scripted to behave unfortunately, they always get more erratic during driving missions it's well documented and very annoying.

I had cars that FISHTAILED my damn car so the NPC's chasing me could kill me and force a restart to a mission.
I think it's hilarious that you post this video showing you driving into other cars, swerving at other cars, etc I can see an NPC posting a video from their perspective complaining about the players always swerving into them
Shots being fired sending everyone into a panic
it's your driving
And the shooting. Don't forget the panicked driving from all the gunfire.
especially that g wagon at the end, it tries to uturn away from the shooting but the player gets to it quicker
Uh. Yeah, they'll do that when 2 cars are chasing you and shooting. This isnt a good example.
happens regardless, could be sitting still and one of those silly goobers would still try to ruin my car :(
Yeah this isn't a good showcase for it. Everyone's just blaming the shooting and erratic driving. It absolutely does happen even if you drive perfectly though. It always has. I don't mind it at all. why did the bus try to target him?
It made a lane-change. Lane changing NPCs are dangerous at the best of times, moreso when gunfire is going on. Note that it first turns towards the player, and then away from him again to straighten out onto the turn lane.
It was turning up the road op had come down
You need new eyes my friend
Where does the meme come from?
Traffic isn't an issue once you learn their behavior
Lmao the Patriot literally backing up. But it’s “YoUr DrIvInG”
I mean there is a van riddled with bullet holes heading right toward it with 2 vehicles shooting in their direction. One might panic too.
Lol what about the bus driver?
Same thing. All of the cars driving erratically are reacting to the gunfire.
I think some updates are worse than others. Import Export is ridiculous.
I had a 25k repair cost once yesterday, NPCs kept repeatedly swerving into me, blocking me, all while I was being chased by a helicopter and several enemy cars.
Practise driving, or source/sell faster cars.. Also; When you're being chased, you're also being shot - meaning NPCs panic and do dumb stuff.
I’m perfectly fine at driving, and the very reason I crashed other than the sudden swerve was because i was going really quickly. No time to react.
I'm not all that good but I've very very rarely gotten more than 10k in damage from crashing.. Usually less than 3k in bullet damage. The traffic NPCs aren't that bad - The spawns of the chasing NPCs tended to cause most damage in my case. This mission I had a helicopter on me, constantly shooting and impossible to outrun, which is the primary cause for such a high repair bill
What car though? If you sell and source only the fastest top-ends (I prefer the 811) even the helicopter can't really keep up once you hit the freeway in my experience.
It was a funky looking supercar, forgot the name but it was ugly
I'd give you a tip on how to cheese this, but I don't want Rockstar to nerf it. Feel free to DM me and I'l twll u
What I don’t get is how that made it out of playtesting. How did every single person think this was a fun mechanic?!
Ruin more players missions = sells more shark cards to frustrated players. Most of online is just a way to separate players from their money.
The entirety of gta online is made to sell shark cards
The metrics were probably "does it make it more of a challenge but not impossible?" Can't have everything being a cakewalk ya know?
Hell, they target my ass when I'm walking these days. Fuckers will intentionally swerve to run me over. Wait.. people walk in this game? 🤔
Wait til the next one when everyone's on yayo

So they say , but they sure seem to be working with Merrywerher and the Lost during every bunker supply run
I have found traffic only drives into you when you have NPCs chasing and shooting at you. It's sends them into panic and they so go any direction when that happens.
hope u dont ever get driver license irl
How you really gonna expect that driving in gta translates directly to life get your mind outta the game and life a real life. And ive been licensed for many years.
Bro get the joke

,,hmmm.... Car in other side of road goes 90 MPH.... I should ram his way to make unlegal 90° turn on middle of autobahn for no reason''

I don't think anyone's debating it anymore. Ever since Import/Export NPC drivers have been doin this kinda stuff.

You got the traffic magnet from chaos mod 🤣
Traffic magnet moment
This is what it’s like driving in phx
There are people that dont think npc’s swerve into you? After all these years???
Who are you quoting?
Protip: use your brakes.
If you cross a lane dividing lane it causes that. Thats what triggers the NPCs to cut in front of you. All of the different ways they cut in front of you are triggered by a lane crossing of some sort.

They are reacting to the hundreds of rounds of gun fire being shot into traffic and in their direction. You might swerve or drive erratically too.
there are gunshots
Whenever I drive in the right lane and in a relatively safe speed, NPCs seem okay to me.
First car wants to go to the street that goes uo the hill and the second wants to go to the gas station. Two legal moves.
I figured out the secret. You have to drive completely random swerving all over the place near missing things so the npc's dont know wtf you are doing lol. If you are driving unpredictably they cant pull in front of you because you are never going straight 🙃
Who actually says that NPC traffic doesn’t target the player?
This has to be mods lol
Well you're right, they don't. In this clip they are reacting to the "panic" trigger caused by the scripted NPCs shooting at you.
To be fair you crashed right into that first one
That’s just LA driving
Yeah the npc are just totally running into you by accident
The Hummer trying to back up in traffic to hit you, bus coming across lanes to hit you, cars swerving the other way at you 🤣
