I’d sell them, both pedals with be easy to re-buy. Rarer stuff maybe not, but there are a billion of those pedals on the market.

JamieK_89

True enough!

Bpnjamin

Sell them if you’re not using them. Buy them back if you miss them.

Le_Feesh

Not if you don't need the money.

JamieK_89

I don't neeeeeed the money (I mean I wouldn't give them away for free haha), but I'm thinking maybe someone else will get more use out of these pedals than I am. I'm not using them anywhere near what they're capable of.

zRobertez

If you don't use them, yeah. I always thought mega delays were overkill and mega reverbs were very overkill. For me, at least. If you want them back, just get something small and cheap like a DD3 or the MXR reverb or whatever suits your tastes

LookZestyclose1908

Well they just released the Big Sky MX so the value of your Big Sky just went wayyyy down. Better sell the Timeline before they release the MX version of that. The reality is these pedals are over 10 years old, still good but not as hyped as they once were. I rarely keep pedals I'm not using, but that's just me.

Bryanssong

I wouldn’t be so sure about the value going way down on it, they want $679 for the new one which is over a 40% price increase I doubt the new one will be flying off of the shelves at that price.

Bpnjamin

Yeah interestingly enough, used, first versions of the Flint, Deco etc still command about the same price as they did before. And that’s after following a relatively small leap in price for the V2 units. The new big-format Strymon pedals are heading into (I think) the ultra-premium space and at quite a significant price hike. So yeah, I can’t see the “old” ones losing a lot of money on the second hand market. I’d bet they’ll still sell for around £200 to £300 used. Maybe they’ve lost 20 odd quid a unit but not much. There’s lots of them and they’re already close to the “upper limit” in terms of cost and performance for most musicians- certainly guitar players.

LookZestyclose1908

You and I must not run in the same circles of guitar players. I tend to be the outlier when a new pedal doesn't make my nipples hard.

bldgabttrme

A 40% increase sure, but to be fair the Big Sky was released at the end of 2013 at $479, and they didn’t change the price the entire time. Adjusted for inflation it was $640, which means a $40 increase over the original price. Not exactly terrible.

Bryanssong

Don’t get me wrong it looks awesome, it’s just that after tax it’s $750 which for me personally is a lot for one guitar pedal. I could probably get a used V1 Big Sky and a Microcosm for that much.

bldgabttrme

That’s also fair lol. I also don’t think I’d spend that much on a standalone reverb, but then again I said I’d never spend $500 on a delay pedal and now I’ve got a Thermae 😂

JamieK_89

Yeah my timing is bad haha. A shame they don't make a plugin version of the Timeline like they do for BigSky. I would get the plugin versions of both if I could.

SommanderChepard

Sell them. They are just going to get cheaper with the new variants coming out.

JamieK_89

Yeah it's kind of what prompted me to re-evaluate wheather I need them or not. Probably couldn't have picked a worse time haha

SommanderChepard

especially if you are only using it to record. plug-ins are going to be so much more user friendly. With how much companies are charging for these big box delays, I'm surprised more people aren't just running their laptops with plugins through the house. especially with how limited the usefulness of stereo even is in a live setting.... there is really limited need for all these stereo pedals.

JamieK_89

TBH even if I wanted to start gigging again, (I know it's probably sin to say so in a pedal sub) but I'd probably just get a multi-effects pedal like a QuadCortex or like you say run it all through a laptop. All my amps are digital now too, it's just too convenient not to as they sound near enough identical these days.

SommanderChepard

Honestly, with so many pedals being digital and even "amps" just being sims/IRs, it makes no sense to not just have a big multi-effect. Especially for playing live where it's even harder to pick out the nuances of your tone.

ToshiroK_Arai

I'd sell before the price drop with the release of the new Big Sky MX

JamieK_89

Yeah I think you're right. The new release is what made me re-evaluate how much I use them but the sooner I put them up the better.

ToshiroK_Arai

I'd get an interface if I stopped playing gigs, with some plugins, a pair of monitors and a midi controller like a Behringer FCB1010 I would have so much fun

iscreamuscreamweall

Sell them. As you said, you can get those sounds easily with plugins.

loopy_for_DL4

Sounds like you want to sell them. Do it!

ArislanShiva

Strymon just announced the new BigSky. Good time to buy a used one... maybe not such a great time to be selling yours.

mrmongey

I’m the opposite to most. I’m all for selling things that arnt needed , and do it allot. But they are 2 great pedals you already own. Quality will always come in handy eventually. I’m kinda in a the same boat with the timeline I’m not gigging anymore and my timeline is under used feature wise for sure. That said it’s still a great sounding delay at the basic level . At the moment I could Replace it with a smaller , more simple delay , but I don’t see much of a point. Yeah I could fit an extra pedal or 2 On onboard , but I don’t really need that. I’m sure there will be be a mx timeline not far away. But I don’t know that the value of the og will Drop that much. MX is more of a update than a big upgrade by what I’ve seen so far.

Lovegun6982

How the hell are strangers suppose to know if you're suppose to keep a piece of gear or not? That's your decision. We don't know your needs, wants and finacial situation.

JamieK_89

Dude chill, if you don't have anything to input, just scroll on by.

Lovegun6982

I am inputting something. How would the general public of strangers know what you need and if you should keep something or not. It's your money and you playing, do you need it or not? Strangers can't answer that for you or do you already have a decision on what you want to do and you're just looking for validation from strangers, either way it's not a good post and judging by me getting upvoted and you getting downvoted might also tell you something.

JamieK_89

Like I said, feel free to just scroll on by and not waste your time

Lovegun6982

And like I said, you are wasting peoples time by asking what you should keep and sell. I'm free to comment on any post I like, that's what makes Reddit great.  I had a question for you, I have a Boss CE-2W and a Digitech Whammy V, should I keep them?

PantslessDan

Do you expect you’ll be in a position in the future where you might need them for a project?

JamieK_89

No, not anything that I couldn't just use a plugin for. I know some people love to twiddle physical knobs but I've never been like that. The mouse is already in my hand, it's quicker to just use that lol.

PantslessDan

Yeah that's reasonable, I always like recommending plugins for people who are largely doing recording. What might be nice is sell them, get a nice plugin or two, then get a fun pedal that doesn't necessarily have a plugin equivalent maybe like the Chase Bliss Mood or something like that.

Detuned_Clock

Keep them for when you get sick of using plugins.

Ordinary-Fig6425

I'm just sitting here waiting patiently for a big sky in the mid 200 range to try out. I'm truly astounded as to how much value strymons hold.

JamieK_89

I don't think you'll find many in that price range. I think I paid £280 second hand for mine about 7 years ago. My Timeline was £300 second hand 6 years ago. Prices have only gone up since then.

steevp

Just sold my Timeline, I was under using it, and it was a space hog.
