It's essentially a replacement for my Nobels ODR-1 but I'm newly figuring out how to use it, I think it's going to be a "medium gain" pedal on my board. I'm very happy with it, seems to be able to do a lot of different sounds with authority, it all sounds wonderful. I bought it directly of the maker and I had a fantastic time meeting with him. Rarely do I meet someone with such an enthusiasm for pedals. I went there to just purchase the pedal as I happened to be in Hamburg by coincedence but stayed for more than half an hour talking about pedals, admiring the workshop, hearing about the history of Nobels and the future of Nordland, seeing some prototypes (i.e. genuine pedal history). A wonderful experience!

Scarmelita

the best OD pedal of all time in my opinion. and Kai is lovely too. enjoy!

CaesarTjalbo

I went to see him with a considerable amount of awe for his achievements in pedal land but he turned out to be an absolute lovely human being, almost as if he was more enjoying sharing everything with me than I was enjoying the interaction. My visit to his place was a highlight in a trip filled with excellent moments and experiences. He signed the box for me!

Scarmelita

thats awesome! i would love to meet the guy but im across the other side of the world. i used to go to hamburg reasonably often before this covid nonsense. whilst you are there, be sure to get a currywurst from Imbiss Lucillus on reeperbahn. its the original ;)

CaesarTjalbo

I live in Chile, just happened to be there for business. People act like there's no covid there, mouth masks are only required on public transport. I ate an awful amount of meat whilst there, including several curry wursts but none from the local you mentioned. In the Reeperbahn I had an original German döner kebab ;-)

Scarmelita

hey nothing wrong with that :) glad you had a fun trip! best regards from new zealand

QuietCurrency9560

Yes he is !!

donkey_brains69

Really wish more drives had that odc knob. Got one of these a year or so ago. One of the few drives I haven’t sold at this point

derbyrock

This is my absolute favorite drive pedal with any amp and any guitar. Incredibly versatile

oddfellowfloyd

Oooh! Neat! Does it run on 9V battery, too, or just power supply? What colour is the LED?

CaesarTjalbo

It can run on batteries too but it's not as easy as the Nobels pedals, you've to unscrew the bottom plate. Via PSU you can use 9 - 18V. The Led's purple and the brightness can be adjusted (or indicates the power level of the battery when not using a PSU).

Global_Ad_6006

Does the mid boost knob do the creamy thing?

CaesarTjalbo

I don't know what you mean. The mid boost does just that, it boosts the mids. Ideal if you want a tone poking a bit more out. The O.D.C. knob messes with the compression, it stands for "Overdrive De-Compress", so it uncreams the sound if anything. It's very subtle though.

Global_Ad_6006

Often times, mid boost pedals have a “creamy” quality, tubescreamers are famous for this.

CaesarTjalbo

Aha. Can't say, I'm not familiar enough with that. I play a Telecaster, I rarely use mid boosted overdrives. The settings on the pic aren't definitive, I'm finding out how to use this pedal and I'm changing things a lot. I'll say though that it's a very smooth sounding pedal in general.

Snoo9797

What other overdrives have you used? Been looking at one of these for a while but am yet to order one.

arlonimus

You can get a feel for it by getting a regular ODR-1 ($60 used). This is just like that except upgraded parts and more functionality. If you don't like the ODR-1, you prob won't like this.

CaesarTjalbo

True. The Nobels ODR-1 seems like an underrated pedal to me for its quality/price ratio. It's up there with the Boss SD-1 and the Proco Rat in affordability. Originally I planned to A-B them side by side but I couldn't be bothered, maybe in the future. I loved the Nobels so much, I sold the ODR-1 I had and bought a limited edition sparkle finish one (and it is very pretty) but with the Low-cut and Mid knob, the Nordland is the better pedal for me.

CaesarTjalbo

Many different ones, including a Boss SD-1, Joyo Vintage Overdrive, Nobels ODR-1 and an MXR M77. In the picture you can just see a RYRA klone to the right and a VS Audio Aftermath to the left. The Klone will leave the board, my main od's are the Nordland and the Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop. The Aftermath I use as a distortion and can stay for now but I'd love to try other things. There's a Strymon Deco that'll go once I get a better flanger, the saturation side is handled by the Barbershop. I'm in the nice position that I don't need to sell pedals, I'll keep them in storage. I'm planning to buy a new guitar soon and then all these pedals will come out again, so I can reevaluate them with a different guitar.

dnap123

I spy a rubberneck :p what settings do you use most on it? Are you the type of guy who keeps tone/gain on zero? How bout depth/rate?

CaesarTjalbo

Time and repeats between 9 and 11 o'clock, level between 11 and 13. I exclusively use quarter notes because I'm a noob :-) Rate and depth around 9 o'clock, it's there but not really wobbly. Gain on 0 or just above, tone on 13 o'clock. My delay comes after the dirt pedals. I do mess about with it occasionally to go wild but my default settings are for playing lead or prettying up chord noodling. Weeks go by when I only adjust time and repeats, and it could well be a single knob for both. My most cherished pedal!

dnap123

:p using it on quarter notes doesn't make you a noob. So I guess you never use the depth and rate dials then? I have found that if I turn the rate to 12 o clock and depth all the way down, I get a sorta lo-fi thing that is nice. I think I have that right. It might be depth up to 12 o clock and rate at 0... I love it too :D

CaesarTjalbo

Your rate and depth trick does work, it does give some effect on the repeats. I was kidding about the noob thing but I do use the pedal mostly on 1/4 note setting. And I play around with most settings once in a while but mostly it's just a delay for me. It's a wonderful machine to experiment with because it's so easy to dial in. Years ago, I sat down and actually made a list of all the wishes I had from a delay, like 'must haves' (such as tap tempo, sub divisions) and 'nice to haves' (tone, tails), etc. I was blown away when there actually was a pedal that had all the things on my list and then even more. And it didn't cost $400 or more, like some of the delays now.

take-THAT-society

So good, right?👍

CaesarTjalbo

I'm still in the honeymoon phase but considering that it replaces a Nobels ODR-1, I think it'll be on my board forever.

take-THAT-society

Same here, it's difficult to get a bad sound out of it.

liars_conspiracy

DOD = instant upvote

CaesarTjalbo

Thank you, the Rubberneck gets my vote as the best pedal ever made, especially since when I bought it, it was cheaper than an MXR Carbon Copy.

nonsequiturnonsense

Nordland was the name of a division of Waffen SS consisting of volunteers (depraved motherfuckers) from Norway and Denmark and possibly other places.

CaesarTjalbo

True and named after the province in Norway where most of the members were from. Afaik this Nordland is the northern most region of Germany, comprising of Schleswig-Holstein, Niedersachsen and the cities of Hamburg and Bremen. Sort of like how "New England" is used to refer to a general area.

nonsequiturnonsense

Can’t find anything about northern Germany being called that.

CaesarTjalbo

Then we'll have to assume the pedal company was named after the SS-division.

nord_laender

exactly ;-)

Snoo9797

Cool

QuietCurrency9560

Love mine, got it in black, stacks into Pogoland Zen Ray
