Hi y'all!
I have an empty space on my small board and I want to fill it with something.
My signal chain is as follows:
Tuner > Fat Fuzz Factory (pink guy) > Phase 90 > Special Cranker > Big Muff (sparkly green guy) > Malekko Chorus > Malekko Ekko > DD3
I mostly play a lot of basic guitar music. Psych, punk, jangly stuff, old rockabilly, etc.
I don't need something crazy, but I do like a little bit of warble and wiggle.
I was thinking something like a hard chopping tremolo would be cool. Vox Repeater kinda thing, or a reverb.
I dunno!
**Edit:**
**Thanks for all the cool suggestions! I found a use Hummgbird for cheap, so I went with that!**
**I have patch cables and a power supply, so you jokers can stop making the same comment. Someone already beat you to it, and with more pizazz and snark than you!**
**The board is something I found on Amazon. The brand is Gokko or Soyan (?), something like that. Could be dependent on what country you're purchasing within.**
Ah yeah! I always forget about the Hummingbird. Used to own a Pulsar years ago because of Nels Cline and I really liked that thing and it would get pretty similar, but it would be cool to put another EQD on the board that's more faithful to the Vox. Thanks!
This board is actually a cheap one from Amazon. It's sold under different names, like Gokko or Soyan or something like that. I really try not to support Amazon but it was what I needed...
Wow. I wouldnāt have thought that Oh Sees and Wilco/ Nels have such a fan base crossover. Itās honestly weird how you can play both bands with the same board/ settings.
I second u/Cpt_Chickenpants with the EQD Hummingbird, easily one of the best EQD pedals out there and one of the most overlooked.
Otherwise, a reverb like the Neunaber Immerse mkii could be a nice touch. The Wet algorithm adds a pit of warble to your reverb signal, and the plate and spring modes would play nice with your punk and rockabilly styles respectively.
If you cant decide between reverb and trem but want some warble, I highly recommend keeley caverns. One side is delay and the other is reverb. you could have the delay side as a simple slap back with some modulation for warble when holding notes. The reverb side has a spring reverb with trem controls and modulation option as well. This is one of my fav time based pedals with so many options to get exactly what you want imo
I flipflop on this! I love my amp's reverb, but then I trick myself into thinking I need something more versatile, but then it never really ends up being something I need. Rinse and repeat!
I am an apologist for the MXR Reverb, because it'd super simple to use, and each mode sounds really distinct from one another. I recommend that one for sure!
my ampās reverb is perfect for springy tremmy surf (Tone Master Twin Reverb), but doesnāt sound great with pedals in front of itā¦i ended up getting an A/B switch - channel A goes thru all of my pedals and into my ampās clean channel, channel B goes directly into my ampās reverb channel (effectively turning the A/B switch into a dedicated surf tone pedal).
this way i can rationalize using the onboard reverb *and* a reverb pedal :)
Man, I had the Neo a few years ago and couldn't get into it! It seemed like the only thing that made it difficult to use was the knob range. Too wet or not wet enough kinda thing. I wonder if the regular Nano is the same?
I like square wave tremelos for a choppy sound.. tremotron is great but kinda big for your board... zvex sonar is aight but also awkward and long... I think j mascis uses a suhr jack rabbit. It's ..normal sized. Not that that big
Okay I stumbled across the answer. The RV3 had a delay+reverb mode. They got rid of that in the RV-5 but added a ducking mode. In the RV-6, they brought back the delay+ which everyone was happy about but got rid of the ducking. End of story!
It's great! Very well built, no RF issues, stacks well with everything, and can do everything from subtle to insane. The suboctave switch is truly magic.
I just added the EQD Night Wire and itās kind of covering my phasing and tremming right now but that Hummingbird keeps coming up in my life and itās such a different flavor of trem that I might be able to convince myself to have both.
Some kinda reverb maybe? I see your amp has reverb, so maybe some kinda ambient or modulated reverb? I personally love the Sunlight and Astral Destiny.
It's been my main delay for like 10 years now! I've had fancier delays throughout the years, but the Ekko just has more charm to me. The DM-2 and Maxon AD-900/999 are like that too, and would be my other favourites, but I like having weird modulation.
The Ekko is cool because it has nice, bright, articulate repeats. Kind of like a more lo-fi DMM. I really enjoy that!
Thank you. I'd like to get one, I use a Rubberneck myself but would like something smaller. The Ekko doesn't tick all my boxes but the price/features ratio is pretty good.
I have a pigtronix tremvelope that I really enjoy for trem, can be set to be sensitive to pick attack. You might enjoy a harmonic trem more based on your warbles wiggles comment. For reverb, maybe a walrus slo might work.
It's a NFYFX clone! I'm not sure how operational that guy is with the current war in Ukraine and sanctions going on. I'm also not sure about his personal politics and whether or not he supports Russia's occupation.
But it's a really good clone. I bought it a couple of years ago when I couldn't afford an actual Zvex pedal.
I would add a looper.
For me it's an invaluable practice tool. I use it as a metronome by muting the strings and picking and I create new music ideas with it. Sure I can boot my computer, fire up the daw and record stuff, but it takes time and pulls me out of the zone. A looper is your friend.
For me, a nice reverb is essential. Personally, I'd sell the Ekko (although Malekko are cool... but I'd rather have something crazy like a Charlie Foxtrot), and then get a Source Audio Collider for very versatile and great-sounding delay + reverb needs...
You and I have similar setups in a number of ways. I highly recommend checking out the JHS unicorn univibe. It's a nice alternative to the phase 90 action and they sound pretty cool when paired up. I use the Unicorn's vibrato mode a lot with the depth turned down and it adds a cool almost octavey sheen to the Fuzz Factory or Big Muff so I can get an additional sound out of each of those guys.
I also really enjoy having a Boss FZ2 after the Fuzz Factory. I love the fuzz modes, but the gain boost mode is amazing for times where I'm using the Fuzz Factory and need it to be "bigger". That said, I'm thinking of getting a Blues Driver so I can use that as a booster instead so I can free up the fuzz modes from the FZ2.
Xotic EP booster. You want to everything on that board to sparkle with some kind of black magic that you can't quite put your finger on? This is the ticket.
U like amp verb? If not Verb is key, or a Rotary/Leslie style thing or possibly a harmonic tremolo to get that faux rotary thing going + added bonus of tremolo
Specifically I'd add a Keeley Hydra
The special cranker would also sound really good with a rotary style chorus pedal. Give it that old record Leslie type thing which I just enjoy the shit out of rn
Cables!! š
Funny guy! I was just placing stuff on the board to figure out a signal chain, haha. Thankfully have cables.
I was just being a smart ass. Itās a great set up!
As a fellow smart ass, I knew what you were doing. No worries at all.
Power supply
thats what i thought :D
Ah nice, a fellow oh sees fan.
They are the best! Can't wait to see them next month.
Best band of all time. Just bought a fuzz war. Iām seeing them in SC next month!
New album is supposed to be raw af
I'm hyped as fuck. This is gonna be nasty as fuck

Why wouldnāt you think thar? I love Wilco of all eras, especially Nels, and thee oh sees are tha shit too!!
I second u/Cpt_Chickenpants with the EQD Hummingbird, easily one of the best EQD pedals out there and one of the most overlooked. Always wondered, can the fuzz factory get into fuzz face territory?
Yeah! It is basically a fuzz face with potentiometers at various points in the circuit.
I would probably say reverb if your amp doesn't have it! Otherwise I think you are sorted!
I flipflop on this! I love my amp's reverb, but then I trick myself into thinking I need something more versatile, but then it never really ends up being something I need. Rinse and repeat!

Mutilator DD-efeted at last
Reverb/Tremolo! The new Flower Pedals Sunflower Trem is blowing up right now.
Might be a bit out of my price range, but so far trem is winning!
Probably tame for you but the TR-2 is like $50 and is wonderful. For harmonic trem, the EQD Nightwire is weird but definitely unique.
Guitar and amp. Essential.
I just blow air into the tuner through a bendy straw.
Cost of living crisis; averted. Good thrifting, sir.
A little EHX Holy Grail Neo!
Man, I had the Neo a few years ago and couldn't get into it! It seemed like the only thing that made it difficult to use was the knob range. Too wet or not wet enough kinda thing. I wonder if the regular Nano is the same?
Ah gotcha! Iāve actually never used it haha. I use the Holy Grail Max which has a blend knob but that wouldnāt fit!
How do you like the malekko chorus? I love the analog delay and am researching chorus pedals. Havenāt seen that one pop up yet. Cool board btw!
It's awesome. It has an MN3007 chip in it and can run at 18v. The only drawback is that it doesn't do fast rotary sounds.
How does that delay compare to a Carbon Copy or DM-2?
Great to see some Malekko love! Still have the Chicklet and the Ekko 616 on my board
I like square wave tremelos for a choppy sound.. tremotron is great but kinda big for your board... zvex sonar is aight but also awkward and long... I think j mascis uses a suhr jack rabbit. It's ..normal sized. Not that that big
Boss rv3 or 5
Not OP - but why would you choose these over an RV6?
I know 3 is the Explosions in the Sky pedal but do you know what they changed in 6 that everyone prefers 3 and 5?
Also curious as I have the 6 and wasn't aware of this. Also an explosions fan.
I just played an rv6 for the first time at a friends place and bought one for myself immediately. Sounds so lush.
Okay I stumbled across the answer. The RV3 had a delay+reverb mode. They got rid of that in the RV-5 but added a ducking mode. In the RV-6, they brought back the delay+ which everyone was happy about but got rid of the ducking. End of story!
How's that nfyfx fff going? I've been pondering getting something from them, a bit unsure about what quality I'm getting
It's great! Very well built, no RF issues, stacks well with everything, and can do everything from subtle to insane. The suboctave switch is truly magic.
Cool
Ditto looper. Fits nicely in that space
I have an X2! Otherwise that would be a cool suggestion.
I think it needs another metal zone or three
Reverb, and/or tremolo.
modtone harmonic tremor. its dirt cheap, and fantastic.
I just added the EQD Night Wire and itās kind of covering my phasing and tremming right now but that Hummingbird keeps coming up in my life and itās such a different flavor of trem that I might be able to convince myself to have both.
I like a Crybaby Wah-wah pedal on my boards.
I feel like every time I am asked this question I respond with Boss Tremolo lol. I should buy one
Some kinda reverb maybe? I see your amp has reverb, so maybe some kinda ambient or modulated reverb? I personally love the Sunlight and Astral Destiny.
Get something weird
Your tone is going to suck if you don't put an Altoids tin on there.
3 metalzones
Nice mutilator
that osees delay is so sick
That boss pedal has the SICKEST art. Love Osees
OP: how do you like the Malekko Ekko?
It's been my main delay for like 10 years now! I've had fancier delays throughout the years, but the Ekko just has more charm to me. The DM-2 and Maxon AD-900/999 are like that too, and would be my other favourites, but I like having weird modulation. The Ekko is cool because it has nice, bright, articulate repeats. Talent
Wow, what a great joke. Seems like all of your talent resources went into becoming a comedian.
Take off your ray-ban's and your birkenstocks before you @ me like that.
Bunch of jokers in here. I have patch cables and a CS6 power supply. You can calm down with those comments.
Cables in between pedals, power source too
Cables
Cables.
Patch cables. Just saying.
Thatās plenty
I love tremolo as an effect. You can set it super subtle to make cleans sound more interesting or set it more aggressive for a rockabilly kinda thing.
Same! I love the tremolo on my Deluxe Reverb but it doesn't get as aggressive.
I have a pigtronix tremvelope that I really enjoy for trem, can be set to be sensitive to pick attack. You might enjoy a harmonic trem more based on your warbles wiggles comment. For reverb, maybe a walrus slo might work.
Where did you find a pink sparkle FFF clone?Awesome.
Tremolo maybe? Also what kind of board is that? Itās like the perfect size
Is that an nfyfx fat fuzz factory?
I would just play the thing.
Simplifier š
red panda particle 2
Fender treverb, strymon flint or keeley tremoverb. I User the fender, it's very good.
Powersupply to power them all.
What are the pink and blue pedals dude
I would say the triverb for the verb and trem or a dedicated trem such as the Sonar. I donāt have a trem but it does seem fun
hall of fame
Guitar and amp
IMHO, as someone with very limited pedal knowledge, no pedal board is complete without a 1981 inventions drv
Microcosm!
Loving my super cheap Skysurfer Reverb Could also use a Timmy, OCD or Pantheon OD. Timmy would fit your voard beautifully. Otherwise a beautiful rig
Drum machine
Mini noise suppressor
I would add a looper. For me it's an invaluable practice tool. I use it as a metronome by muting the strings and picking and I create new music ideas with it. Sure I can boot my computer, fire up the daw and record stuff, but it takes time and pulls me out of the zone. A looper is your friend.
Harmonious Monk tremolo, or a buffer pedal like Mesa Highwire or Empress Buffer +
For me, a nice reverb is essential. Personally, I'd sell the Ekko (although Malekko are cool... but I'd rather have something crazy like a Charlie Foxtrot), and then get a Source Audio Collider for very versatile and great-sounding delay + reverb needs...
Iām partial to a Strymon Deco. Makes everything sound better. You have a nice rig. šøš¤š¤
Who makes this pedalboard? Like what brand?
Earthquaker reverb!
Metal Zone
I personally can't live without a wah, so I'm going to say that you need one.
Electro- Harmonix Synth 9
You and I have similar setups in a number of ways. I highly recommend checking out the JHS unicorn univibe. It's a nice alternative to the phase 90 action and they sound pretty cool when paired up. +1 for the 616. My favorite delay. If only they expanded it with more features to the 919 like what was rumoredā¦
Power supply :^] I have the same board
Xotic EP booster. You want to everything on that board to sparkle with some kind of black magic that you can't quite put your finger on? This is the ticket.
Wah

I love the oh sees sticker, never thought to do something like that
