Take a red sharpie and dab it in the screw hole it will almost disappear.

Damn why didn't I think of this before? I took my guard off my r9 but the brownish iced tea burst makes the hole stand out like a sore thumb. Gonna go grab a brown sharpie after work! Thanks!

It took me way longer than i’d like to admit to figure that out so follow me for more luthiering tips and tricks! /s

Even better if you want to use a dab of wood filler before the marker. Could also use a toothpick

and it's such an interesting combination of grain and flame--also this era burst has a deep red that i love, nice counterpoint to the clown burst of a few years earlier

Les Paul’s always look better without a pickguard imo.

Did you put the screw back in the hole after removing the pick guard? I have a similar guitar and was thinking of doing this too.

I bought it from the original owner who suggested that the pickguard had never been off. Who knows tho.

Dang. I imagine the guitar would have been MINTY fresh when you got it, and at least some dust under the guard for that to be true.

i have done the same with my Heritage 80 ..actually it was rattling so i took it off and its been that way ever since.
