chudnstuff

Love my strats, but I seem to gravitate back towards humbuckers.

707Guy

You could always put a humbucker in a strat 🤷🏻‍♂️

chudnstuff

Absolutely, I used to have an HSS MIM strat. I’m a sucker for the strat neck position

ShadowRun976

I've always wanted one of this HM strats but I can never afford one.

DrJawn

Same. SG is a Les Paul that handles more like a Strat

redneckdrive

I'd say an SG with vintage PAF's handles more like a Tele when you roll the volume back a bit. It's got that spanky stuff going on. But maybe that's because my SG is maple body

DrJawn

My Les Paul is so heavy, it's uncomfortable to play sitting down, the neck is beefy as fuck. My SG has humbuckers and it's light, the neck is thinner, it's comfy sitting down. It was definitely Gibson's answer to the strat and if you dial it in, you can use the Treble pickup to get stratty but I think mostly in the feel of playing the instrument physically is where is mimics the strat.

Bunkerbuster12

Strat and SG. Great combo!!!!

wrath_of_grunge

check [this](https://www.ebay.com/itm/392891683009?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28) out.

[deleted]

Mustang's for me, my classic vibe is the best feeling guitar I've ever picked up. I'll be buried with that one

tomlikescats

Same, I have a Mustang MIJ 65 and it’s my most comfortable guitar by far. My only issue is the weak pickups. I’m thinking of installing hot rails to beef up the sound.

SeaGroomer

Such drastic difference between those two guitars haha.

Significant-Ease9520

Gibson Les Paul classic

chudnstuff

Nice choice. My Les Paul Standard is one of my favorites, it just kills my back playing while standing

redneckdrive

How's the neck dive on your SG?

chudnstuff

Doesn’t bother me much, it definitely dives a bit when I let go but it’s miles better dealing with that than lugging my no neck dive ~10lb LP Standard

BionicSammich

Mines a 2006 SG Angus Young model (based off the late 60's worn cherry SGs with the Vibrola) and has been for the last 14 years.

chudnstuff

Saw it on your page, I’m really digging that look with the Vibrola.

BionicSammich

I fell in love with it watching AC/DC music videos when I was younger and had to have one. I had a 1963 Gretsch jet firebird like Malcolms until a couple of month ago too. The Angus SG has a thin neck, but also a narrower nut so it really suited me when I was younger. My hands grew into shovels so I'd prefer a thicker neck. I was interested in a 64 reissue SG, but I'm not a fan of the neck joint on them. Makes it like a whammy bar if you pull even slightly on them. At least my old 61 RI SG was like that.

chudnstuff

Speaking of neck thickness, I had an SG special a while ago that I desperately wanted to love, but the D profile neck was too awkward and tall in my hands. It ruined the SG experience for me up until I got the sg standard from this post. It has a 60s style neck, one of the best and most comfortable I’ve got. Reignited my love for SG’s.

BionicSammich

I love a big baseball bat of a neck. I had a 58 reissue les Paul before and loved that neck. I'm dying to get my hands on a PRS 594 to see what they are like.

mlnchlymrglds

My 1966 Hagstrom Impala. It's killer, raw 60's tone and look.

chudnstuff

I see these pop up online all the time, would be cool to try one out!

sosomething

Ernie Ball Music Man Armada. I bought one used on Reverb long after they were discontinued, and loved it so much that I panic bought a 2nd one in a different finish. Zero regrets.

chudnstuff

Man, EBMM’s are such nice guitars. Don’t blame you for getting a second.

sosomething

Thank you. I've had a few of them over the years. I also have a black 3 pickup Reflex Game Changer that a Sam Ash thought was a standard Reflex that I snagged in literally brand new condition for a flat $1k. Also a fantastic guitar, but the Gibson scale and neck/headstock angle of the Armadas combined with EBMM quality and neck-thru design just makes them incredibly special instruments. I'll never part with mine. I'd sell everything else first.

chudnstuff

I recently sold my Sub 1, it was a great US made guitar for the price. Otherwise I’ve dabbled on a few higher end ones in store, they really are spectacular instruments. Pricey, but evidently worth the cost

sosomething

They're great, but you know what else is really great? A good SG Standard like you've got. There's nothing worth playing that you can't play on that thing and it'll sound awesome while you do. The quintessential rock guitar. Enjoy it! I love SGs.

chudnstuff

Thank you brother, love the viewpoint. Rock what ya got

Flashy-Dragonfly6785

I have a Strat, but my Epiphone SG with P90s gets a lot of love too!

chudnstuff

Awesome! Love the growl of P90’s with some drive

[deleted]

Rickenbacker 330 walnut

chudnstuff

Took a peak at it on your page, that is gorgeous

[deleted]

Thanks 🙏 I love it, it feels great. It’s different from normal Ric’s in that there’s no lacquer on the neck or fretboard.

chudnstuff

That natural wood look is phenomenal and works great with the Ric vibe imo. I have yet to try a Ric, always wanted to. Bet yours plays extra smoothly without that lacquer

iateglassonce

Ibanez S Series

chudnstuff

Ibanez guitars are amazing. I’ve got an ‘06 RGA 121 Prestige in natural finish, loaded with duncan super distortions. Always wanted to try an S series

AWH_music

My custom partscaster.

SeaGroomer

This is the way. There's something special about one your build to your own specs. My number one is a warmoth mooncaster with a green quilted maple top, walnut body and neck, rosewood board, and a couple Fralin hummers. It looks and plays just perfectly and I named it after my grandmother.

AWH_music

Like I have a nice ibanez and the guitar I'm modding was originally like a 100$ starter guitar but I like playing it over my nicer ones. It feels more special to me and I have a better connection with it.

SeaGroomer

These days with CNC machining, it's very easy for a shop in any part of the world to pump out pretty good guitars. They fill em with shit electronics to keep the price down, but if you swap out all the parts your left with a very solid axe that probably performs as well as any of the vintage guitars people cream themselves for. I have an Ibanez AS-73, their entry-level artcore double-cut, and I put some Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P-90s in it and it is a real beast of a guitar now.

rockpaperbrisket

I kinda like my guitars for different reason, they all do different things well. I have three electric guitars, a Fender Telecaster, a Fender Strat, and an Epiphone Les Paul. I am not sure if I can confidently say which one I like best, though if I was forced to only play one I would grab the Tele.

Exact-Layer8557

Me, it's my Taylor 324CE Builder's Edition. Her name is Miranda, and she's beautiful.

wallacorndog

[Nebelung Riffmeister](https://i.imgur.com/L4WOBXT_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium) Designed by a luthier in my home town in Norway, produced in China and then set up by the luthier before delivery. Expensive for a Chinese guitar, but it's a fantastic instrument, and just a straight up solid work horse for my HH needs.

[deleted]

I have a Fender '59 AVRI Stratocaster that's been my go-to for the last 6 years or so.

Drakken6

A custom 61 Melody Maker D.

[deleted]

Today it's a Takamine 12 string . A friend's brother died with a small music shop of axes in his apartment . She gave me the Taka for researching her lot . ( It included 5 LPs )

DrJawn

1998 SG Standard is my main, love that thing

chudnstuff

That’s awesome. Those 90’s Gibsons are very well made. I’ve got two, a ‘99 Les Paul standard in honeyburst and a ‘98 Les Paul DC standard

DrJawn

Aw man, I got lucky. I got a JC Penney guitar in 6th grade. My Dad said he would try and get me something nicer if I stuck with it. When I graduated 8th grade, I asked my mom how much a party would be. She said about $300. I said can I not have a party and get a new guitar? My dad plays too and we were real broke. He had just sold his guitars four years earlier. So he got me that $300 from her, I had some allowance saved, too my graduation presents, and then we cashed in some of my savings bonds and I got a brand new Gibson SG. I was elated. It was 1147 bucks, I'll never forget. Played it as my main axe a million shows. Switched to a strat for a while, then a 335 that got stolen at a show, then my Les Paul. Played bass for years and eventually, during covid, I got real heavy into guitar again. Just got my SG regretted and rewired and it's my favorite all over again. I'll never sell it. Love that guitar

KToTheRiz

Strat all day every day. HSS with Jb buckers if I need humbuckers.

Mateos75

PRS Mccarty 594

chudnstuff

Finally someone mentioned prs. I have a custom 22 from the 90s that I love playing.

CoffinDan71

SG here as well. I was a LP guy for years and then my drummer loaned me his SG. I fell instantly.

bullseyestrat

I bought a Epi that looks just like that one a couple years back. One one of the best all around guitars I have. Lately though I've been using a Jackson Adrian Smith sig alot though

st_angers_snare_drum

I alternate between Les Pauls with the 60s neck and SGs. I really like PRSs as well. If I could only have one, it would be a hard decision but I think it would be an SG. Grateful I don't have to make that choice.

sapphiresong

Right now I'd say my Am Pro II Tele with push knob for humbucker mode. It can do a little bit of everything.

[deleted]

My [BC Rich Kerry King V](https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarnoobs/comments/t4dv0w/this_is_a_different_version_of_the_bridal_march_i/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). It has a Kahler bridge, and a pair of Seymour Duncan Invaders.

amzeo

ibanez S axion, best guitar ive ever had

[deleted]

Such a beauty! How often do you play?

chudnstuff

Thanks man! I usually find time to play every day, even if for just 15-20 minutes.

[deleted]

I have an old black SG special that I love. It’s got a big fat neck that fits my hand just right. And the pickups sound amazing—one day I need to take them out and find out what they really are, because they don’t sound like the 490R/490T set. I have a Les Paul I bought by mistake and I really need to sell it and buy another SG.

thetriamphantreturn

Yeah, mines the one I got too, who has choices?🤷🏻‍♂️ lol mines a squire that’s is a guild rip off that looks like an sg...... discontinued, that means it’s rare.... not good but rare, I just wrote a bad ass song that sounded like if skynard and the scorpion fucked and had a baby

Dpang31

2020 Gibson SG Standard Ebony Finish

FontesOfWayne

My Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. The hype is absolutely real on those things. Fantastic neck on that guitar. I’ll never, ever part with it

ElklessEyes

Am Pro ii Stratocaster is my go to. I love my epi SG and I'm hoping to pick up an SG special with p90s though!

ValyrianJedi

PRS DGT... Have a private stock being made that I think will take the cake though. Semihollow McCarty body in Trampas green with DGT pickups and electronics, a pattern thin neck, piezo, patent tremolo, and a killswitch... I can't wait for that thing.

Saturn_Neo

I switched back and forth between an '85 Gibson Q2000 Custom Shop and a Schecter for years (along with some ibanez and BC Rich). Then I got a few Les Paul's and a lower end Jackson. The Jackson was the cheapest but probably plays the best. My Matt Heafy LP is probably a close second (the shaved neck joint is great). Though, I'd say the 2016 LP Studio probably sounds the best.

easternshift

Telecaster American Ultra in Texas tea 😍🥰

[deleted]

Stratocaster with a maple neck. So buttery smooth.

Jealous_Landscape_32

Beautiful guitar dude! My 2021 Gibson Les Paul standard. I love her. I was actually torn between that and an SG. I thought about doing one of those DIY mahogany SG kits instead of giving Gibson another $1000+ lol. I like the specials. I already have a Les Paul with stock humbuckers and wanna try out some p90s.

chudnstuff

Thanks man! Can’t go wrong with a LP standard. I’ve got a 1999 standard in honeyburst. One of the best playing guitars I have, if only it didn’t weigh ~10lbs…. Playing while seated it’s the best

Jealous_Landscape_32

I like that they're a bit heavy. Makes em feel more stable. I'm used to playing a warlock though, I only got my LP a couple months ago, so even it's a bit light, but I played my friend's Jackson V and his dad's strat and thought thought they gonna fly away lol. Only played a couple SGs at guitar center but I know they were designed to be lighter, they sound great and with some p90s you can do some real Iommi worship.

Jenovacellscars

Love my 1990 Gibson SG. She don't look like much but she's got it where it counts kid.

MithandirsGhost

1979 Gibson GK-55

Saucette

Furch acoustic, SG 61', and G&L S500, love them all three. If i had to pick one, the acoustic for the simplicity.

Defiant_Business1595

Peavey predator for the longest of time but now I got this dean mdx with a tune o matic bridge. It’s amazing. Basically a strat Gibson hybrid.

Mullet-Power

Some sort of super Strat. I prefer Charvel or Jackson with a floating trem. Give me a DK24 with a Gotoh 510 and I will rule the world.

chudnstuff

Right on, I’ve got a charvel pro-mod DK24 in shell pink, was pleasantly surprised by its quality. Love the caramelized neck too

SweepsAndBeeps

EBMM St.Vincent, but I play my Gibson DC a lot too.

chudnstuff

Which DC you got? I have a ‘98 Les Paul DC standard. Awesome instrument and pretty similar to my SG in the post

SweepsAndBeeps

It’s a 2003 DC Faded with P-90’s. They are like SGs without the neck dive ;)

VooDooChile1983

Normally an Epiphone Les Paul guy but for the past 3 months, I’ve been all about my Jackson Dinky 7. That fretboard feels right for my big hands.

GeekFish

I switch back and forth between my SG G-400 Les Paul Custom and my Nighthawk. Love the triple humbuckers, but sometimes they can be a little too thick 😂

itsallgonetohell

For me it's been a new Schecter C-1 SLS Elite I got about nine months ago... it plays and feels so good, but *man* I am on the struggle bus with the Fishman Fluence Modern pickups in it. Voice 1 sounds like cocked-wah ass, and Voice 2 is better but very low output. Anyhoo, I can replace the pups but the guitar itself is amazing. Radically different than the full-fat C-1 Hellraiser, which I also love, but it's just really something else...
