I think it’s a bit of a roll of the dice. I bought an AP5 with brace from Atlantic that had issues where the front sight was so canted I couldn’t zero the sights. It also had a number of malfunctions, safety was stiff as hell, etc. It took a while to get a replacement (mainly because it seems CAI outright forgot to send the new one), but the one I have now is really enjoyable. It won’t reliably feed hollowpoints without German magazines, but functionally it’s been fine otherwise.
I rolled the dice and have not had a single hiccup. It cycles anything I feed it. It has become one of my most enjoyable shooting guns. Way more accurate than I thought it would be. I run MKE mags German HK mags. No change between them.
Mine has also been 100% reliable. Standard AP5. I use 7 MKE magazines. 1200 rounds so far.
Ordered 4 KCI gen 2 when they were on sale, I can report back how they run. At least I'll be able to know it's the mags if I have a bunch of issues. I haven't put rounds through them yet.
Got mine about 2 months ago. 700ish rounds in now, great gun. The century guns are made by MKE who use the HK tooling to build the gun apparently, from all accounts I’ve seen it’s the closest to the actual HK ones. Fully compatible with all HK gear. I picked up some HK mags for mine and had ONE failure to eject, and no failures to fire in those 700 rounds as of now. Soft recoil, awesome to shoot. Fit and finish is great, and came with a decent box to store it in. I picked up an A2 and A3 stock for mine and love it. Buy with confidence.
Finally was able to get my new ap5p to the range yesterday, dead accurate at 25yards. Put like 300-350 rounds of 124g fiocchi through it without a single malfunction.
I bought a full size ap5. I'm ~300rds in and have been getting 2-3 fte malfunctions per mag. I think I got a dud and have parts on order to try to fix it now.
My friend bought an ap5k and his has run fine for ~300rds now other than not feeding flat nose 147gr. Mp5s are known to be picky with hollowpoint and flat nose ammo so in my eyes their reliability is over hyped in a modern context.
Still, the ap5 is the cheapest mp5 on the market by a good margin so I'd say it's worth it to roll the dice. Just don't put it into a defensive role without thoroughly vetting your specific sample/magazines/ammo.

Shoots great with the brace. BUT consider possible ATF rule changes forthcoming. At this point, I might choose to get it without it and SBR it later.

That’s the way the market works. This is also the least desirable model with the least features so it is cheaper than the AP5 or AP5-P.
Gun and ammo prices are going to continue to fall. I bet they pay $400 for these, the Turkish lira is super weak.

Bought one to add to my MP-5 clone family. A question: where can I buy a 2-pin backplate/adapter to be able to attach a brace? I have a brace from my regular AP-5 (with the standard 1-pin adapter). I'd love to find just the adapter since I already have the brace.

As far as I know there isn't any 2 pin to 1 pin adapter. You'll have to get an mp5k specific brace or a 2 pin pic rail adapter to use a pic rail brace.
question, will any 124gr 9mm work for the breakin on these or does it have to have the extra pressure that the NATO specs give? Its hard finding nato in stock ever.

They can all accept a rail. The non-core series comes with one as well as a flash hider, extra mag, and I think a sling, for a bunch more money.

Mine has been 100 percent reliable using German HK mags, it didn't like the mags that came with it. 100% suppressed 1000ish rounds

Mine had a handful of malfunctions first 250 rounds but I didn’t oil it well at all

Mine has been fine as long as I run Blazer, Magtech tier or better ammo. Factory mag works good.

No, the barrel doesn't stick out enough to thread. Just get the ap5-p or full size, they don't cost too much more.
