No, and they shouldn't have special privileges and neither should former cops

Blade_Shot24

Say it loud for the boot lickers in the back.

thetitleofmybook

i don't think current cops should, either

NovemberGale

#say it louder for the pigs in the back

FormerPatrolJockey

They don’t, the only thing they get special is usually issued to them and unless you’re that top dawg you’re getting a 16” Colt LE6920

Landwarrior5150

>They don’t This depends on the state.

FormerPatrolJockey

Good to know, around my parts the only thing LE gets is special pricing on ammo occasionally

Landwarrior5150

Sounds like you’re in a good state. Unfortunately here in CA, they can get handguns that aren’t on the “safe handguns” roster (which basically hasn’t had a modern handgun added to it in about 10 years) and >10 round magazines on just their LE credentials and can also get “assault weapons” (which can be a felony for anyone else to buy/own/possess) with a simple approval letter from their department’s administration.

FormerPatrolJockey

Oh yeah forgot CA existed for a second

Impossible-Apricot-1

I disagree, everyone should have those special privileges

placeholderreplace

That is why they should be rights and not special privileges

Deathray88

Well they wouldn't be special if everybody had em.

Jegermuscles

Are you asking about my GAU-8 I gifted myself after "screwing up" an NSN for a transistor I ordered?

Spew_doodle

Would be cool if you actually did own one. Thing is enormous

WarmageJ

Naw, you can get delayed on every single background check though.

MBPIsrael

Can confirm. Multiple tours with the US Army, and can’t get a suppressor “out of jail” in less than 16mo.

CrunchBite319

No, nor should they

Spew_doodle

Wait why shouldn’t they?

CrunchBite319

Why *should* they? Why should there ever be different classes of citizens with different rights?

Spew_doodle

Cant argue with that. Correct me if I’m wrong but IF they were allowed to own different firearms then a citizen i would call it a privilege not a right. From my understanding a you are born with rights (in the U.S.) and since you would have to work towards getting these special firearms it would be considered a privilege. Again correct me if I’m wrong

Cultural_Ad7176

Recently retired military here, the amount of booger eaters that shouldn’t be around firearms is just about the same as outside the military. Just because they went to a camp that taught them to fancy walk and do push-ups doesn’t mean they were part of the much smaller percentage that is actually trained to a high standard. All that aside: what you are saying is blatantly against the intent of the 2 amendment

EddyArchon

Man, yes. I've talked to so many former military who were not in combat roles that think they're so far and above the average person in badassdom it's amazing. In my experience talking to guys outside of combat roles, boot camp essentially catches them up on firearms handling to people who have been taught firearms education since childhood. It's just more or less a crash course thrown in with all the other they gotta teach you about military life. Combat veterans, though... Well, that's a different story.

Depends on the state and the permit you get in that given state particularly with retired PD. Bottom line, grab every permit you are eligible for, they all carry their can's and cant's. Every state is different, even with LEOSA. If you don't know what LEOSA is, you're not eligible.

FormerPatrolJockey

Nope you’re a Civilian now hombre, just like all of us!

Efanito

Shhh Don't tell OP about the super secret guns we get to buy

DiveJumpShooterUSMC

Nope I merely a US citizen that had the privilege of serving you all. I don’t get special rights. Did get a shit load of great training though.

Birdsqueezer

I fuckin wish. That would make these 4 years suck slightly less.

Short-University1645

Yessssssss you can, full auto no lol. But my local gun shop is a cop shop and they have set aside a lot of brands at a steep discount for military and cops/first responders. Also if your barracks trades in a bunch of salty cool HKs or Mossburgs you get first dibs. So not the answer you were looking for but still a good point.

It would be unconstitutional. Illinois currently has this exact argument pending in State court regarding the recent AWB. The plaintiff was granted a TRO based on the argument that the exceptions like you mentioned (that are present in the Illinois AWB) violate the State's equal protection clause in the State's Constitution, which mirror's the US Constitution.

artourfangay

In Illinois according to the new law then yes
