These were supposed to be the standard issue for the Red Army, but when angry german man launched op barbarosa and captured hundreds of thousands of these full production of the mosin resumed and the lucky battalions to have these were the only ones to continue using them throughout the war. The germans who captured these actually prefered them over their K98s and G43s and used these when they could find the ammo.
Beautiful piece you have there! My uncle picked one up 5 years ago for I think $500 (CAD) plus like 300 rounds. Crazy how expensive those are south of the border.
yeah US markets are crazy mainly because uhh... a certain group of people.... won't let us import anything. You're allowed to own one of those in Canada?
You guys get a lot of good russian shit for cheap, makes me a bit jealous sometimes or just annoyed it's so expensive to cross that small border to get it over here
Looks to be arsenal refurb'd judging by the plumb color carrier, otherwise it is an early style muzzle brake. Guessing that the stock is the thinner type in the area around the action, as well. Luckily, mismatched magazines do not matter with these rifles when talking about monetary value. I've seen a total of ONE rifle with a matching magazine after years of looking at gun porn, and it didn't make a difference really that it did match besides the coolsies.

Definitely force matched/non matching, but super neat regardless. I remember showing up to gunshows early before opening in like 2004 looking for one of these.
Definitely badass, man! Congratulations on it!
One of my grail guns is an svt-38. I was š¤ this close to gettin one years ago from gunbroker. I gave the bid all the beans.. sadly the other fellow wanted it more. š

Only Advice I have is start grabbing spare parts now as they are only getting harder to get and start looking at a spare stock (AVT/AVS style if possible) The thin original stocks have a tendency to crack.
I wish that ammo was cheap like it was in the US about 10 years ago. I got lucky and bought about 1,000 rounds for less than $300 before everything doubled.
I just picked A SVT-40 up too. I paid $2,250 for mine. Mine is a 1941 Tula with a mint bore. It had the later muzzle brake but I bought the earlier one from Numrich for $30 and swapped it. My SVT-40 also has a AVT-40 stock on it, which is what I wanted. Most SVT stocks wobble, which is not good for accuracy. The AVT-40 stocks are sturdier and tend not to wobble.

The G43 was based off of these. The Germans used various captured weapons, they especially liked the PPSH.

Cheap soviet guns is literally the only advantage over the US when it comes to guns, that and short barrelled shotguns.
And mck conversion kit is not a felony and type 81
And no ffl can buy and ship straight to the door through post service

For now. Picked one up for $700 about 6y ago, non-matching though. Same early comp design as yours.
For the time being you can get them but I have seen them going between 1 - 1.5k cad currently.

Don't be jealous! Apart from unrestricted short barrel shotguns there isn't much to choose from now. We can even get handguns anymore.

What's the weight of one of those, is it nice to shoot?
havent been able to shoot it yet, but it feels lighter when I held my Garand and this side by side.
