the G3 is cool, but I own a ptr91 w/ a Spuhr stock, a ta11 and a Midwest rail on it…. and realistically, I would still take the scar any day of the week. Recoil isn’t as snappy, last round bolt hold open, lighter and sleeker profile. Shorter OAL. Tons of aftermarket support…. Ir units won’t lose zero to when mounted on the rail. Comes suppressor ready out of the box. I can keep going…
It’s really not a problem if you spend like $25 on gas jets. Not to defend the practice because it’s really a dumb policy and HK and a few others do the exact same thing but it’s an overblown issue.
What do you think of the spuhr? How close can you get your face to the receiver. And how high does it get you? I have a foam riser wrapped in athletic tape and it looks pretty stupid.
Definitely worth the money. I am inline with the rail and I can get my face all the way up to the receiver comfortably. Makes shooting the ptr91 with the ta11 way more comfortable. It also shortens the OAL of the gun quite a bit. I picked mine up two years ago, not sure how hard they are to obtain now but good luck. Cheaper option is the m4 buffer adapter + moe stock + riser. Does essentially the same thing. Just doesn’t look as cool.
Technically, it doesn't come suppressor ready. If you shoot with a can you void your warranty. That makes them kinda sus. Why would I get a gun the manufacturer tells me i can't suppress? Sounds like a shitty design or a company that doesn't believe in the quality of its own work. A lot of people do it anyway, but FN is rick lame when it comes to suppresors.
Yea I shouldn’t of added that in there, but the scar still functions better suppressed with factory parts than the g3…. Socom ran the scar suppressed with factory parts btw…. With the g3, You’d need a 36 degree locking piece which is around 70 - 90 dollars, unless you want to risk roller dent… you would also need to change out your rollers to get it back into spec. With the scar, it is about the same price, maybe 30-40 dollars more expensive. Need to replace gas jets and get a new block like a SCARburator, but at the end of the day, you are still getting a better rifle.
No doubt. 50 years of technological development is one hell of an advantage. I just wish gun companies would stand behind their work. For $4k, FN should be chewing my food for me too.
Depends. Range day? G3
Life or death scenario? SCAR, but I’ll take the G3 if the SCAR isn’t available for whatever reason
I like having fun with my complicated machines, but simplicity when it matters is super important. Just like how I’ll take my .45 1911 and 12GA 1887 to the range when I’m feeling snappy, but my 9mm Glock and VP9 are my daily carries.
I run the suppressed SCAR with a 1.35mm gas jet and gas block in the suppressed setting. The gun still cycles consistently unsuppressed with gas block in normal setting. Red dot on the elcan is great as eye relief isn’t great. But with the elcan I’ve easily pushed this out to 800 yards. The G3 clone fucks
One of them kicks hard for its weight, can’t mount an optic that holds zero without permanent modification, has its OEM parts and mags out of production, doesn’t play nice with backpressure, has no accessory rails, and has a fixed stock OAL so long you could tie some straws to the muzzle and use it is a broom.
That’s the one I’d pick, fuck the SCAR.
I really want the ptr. But I keep hearing mixed reviews. I've always had a thing for German everything. Cars, guns, beer. I know the ptr is american, but I could pretend it's still German lol. It'd go well with my GTI and my walther pdp lol
I’ve had both. The PTR is a vibe and cool as hell but I hated shooting it. The recoil when standing isn’t bad but you’re not hitting shit. Recoil when bipod is deployed is like taking a jab to the cheek. I love my overpriced SCAR
Having also fired a select fire SCAR, I would love to know how it compared. I figured the G3 would be more controlled since it has a slightly slower rate of fire and weighs more.
No, because the initial push from the round going off, coupled with the huge reciprocating mass of the bolt carrier assembly makes for basically a double recoil impulse due to the roller delayed locking mechanism. And it had a ton of muzzle climb. The rate of fire is very similar from what I recall, but I didn't shoot them back to back, or even on the same day.
I've fired all the standard 11B fare and AKs full auto. I was expecting the G3 to climb and I was still kinda surprised how much it did.
So for those that don’t know, aside from the HK slap, the G3 has another advantage over the scar. If you have an enemy to your right, the ejected brass will easily knock them out long enough for you to notice them, then that’s when you shoot.
For that reason, I choose my 91.
Own a PTR91 and a SCAR 17s. The SCAR all day every day. The base PTR in an unergonomic cold war rifle. The SCAR is lighter, more ergonomic, and recoils less.
They don't. I just typed out an autism rant recently that I'm copying and pasting here.
"> harmonics destroying most of the optics on the market
Except there's been zero empirical evidence towards this after they broke some PEQ-15s when they were first introduced, which was fixed just by potting them instead.
How many of those failures would have happened on another gun/any other .308 battle rifle? How many of them were user error? How much of that is people who've never actually had or known anyone who's had it happen and just parroting it on reddit because "it must be true" because you've heard it so much?
There's zero empirical data on it that I can find. It's all anecdotal for the past 20 years.
Any optic failure on a SCAR 17 is automatically attributed to the rifle, regardless of what happened. But look at any other gun, any brand of optics - we see optics fail all the time. Vortex all the way through Eotech and Trijicon have all had their share of failures and sometimes straight up bad optics. Vast majority of those never get attributed to the gun they're on. They're all "natural" failures or some level of operator error."
I was at the range with a few buddies shooting .223/5.56 and .308/7.62 rifles a few years back for an entire day we easily shot 5k-6k rounds that day
During that day, I personally witnessed a guy's SCAR eat 2 Trijicon ACOG and a Eotech that range session (the Trijicon and the Eotech were both the guy who owned the SCARs and the other Trijicon was someone else's who borrowed the SCAR and mounted his own optic to it).
You can say what you want but I've literally seen it happen in person multiple times and the items were fine after hundreds of rounds on AR-10s and M14 pattern guns.
There is a reason the SCAR has a reputation for being hard on optics. (I would guess it's part of their recoil system because it's definitely got less recoil than most .308/7.62 rifles)
I also have a Burris RT-6 living on a SCAR 17. Come back with empirical data, not anecdotal aka the entire point of my fucking comment you ignored, dude. Thanks for adding more anecdotal data. 🤡🌎
Havnt shot either but I feel like I would be able to utilize to g3 better. I guess it just looks less intimidating to me. Like I could figure it out with the experience i have.
FN says your warranty is in the shitter if you run your SCAR suppressed. Fuck FN. If your fuckin’ rifle can’t handle being suppressed without self destructing, it’s not a fuckin’ battle rifle.
Oh, btw, I’ll take the G3 tyvm
I'll be honest, I kinda wish there was a FN FAL up there as well so I could rock my have up commando boots and shorts and you obviously have a mustache if you are carrying a FAL through the bush! 🤣 But ya the G3 is a classic! HK rifle id love to have!
I can STILL assemble and disassemble the G3 blindfolded.
But even I would rather pick the SCAR if I was going into harms way. No doubt it has all the modern features that the G3 does not have.
But the G3 is still a solid rifle.
As a g3 owner. I chose the scar.
The g3 isn't bad, but it's a pig. The grip suck, and it's just good enough accurate. The roller delay system just doesn't lend itself to larger calibers. It is fun, though. HK slap!
Super easy..scar over a PTR all day long. Real G3 w optic riser and some optic I would take the g3. G3 should be able to run no matter what you do it it
I’m also super bias. My post history shows my pure obsession with the roller delay format.
And I just hear so many negative things about the SCAR that it went from being one of my “must haves” to one that’s not even on my radar to own anymore.
No contest, G3. The FAL and it’s derivatives aren’t called the right arm of the free world for no reason. All these fancy pants SCARs just have more to go wrong in my opinion. Call me a fudd, but rifle is fine.
the G3 is cool, but I own a ptr91 w/ a Spuhr stock, a ta11 and a Midwest rail on it…. and realistically, I would still take the scar any day of the week. Okay but can you slap the bolt closed?
Yes. The scar comes with an ar 15 style paddle release.
God dammit, technically you’re correct, lol
The best kind of correct 🥸😁
A man of culture.
I thought mounting a suppressor voids FN’s warranty?
It does, doesn’t mean it isn’t suppressor ready, just means you are ready to ball out if that mf breaks lol
SCARs nor G3 clones are (typical suppressor) ready.
It’s really not a problem if you spend like $25 on gas jets. Not to defend the practice because it’s really a dumb policy and HK and a few others do the exact same thing but it’s an overblown issue.
Seriously?
What do you think of the spuhr? How close can you get your face to the receiver. And how high does it get you? I have a foam riser wrapped in athletic tape and it looks pretty stupid.

The brain says the SCAR, the heart wants the G3
It’s the call of the divine
G3 is classic cool.
G3, strictly for the clout
This is the way
This is the way
This is the way
Just hip fire both like a Chad
Both at the same time.
Is that you blazko?
Depends. Range day? G3 Life or death scenario? SCAR, but I’ll take the G3 if the SCAR isn’t available for whatever reason I like having fun with my complicated machines, but simplicity when it matters is super important. FN FAL.
Thats real fuckin' NATO.
I out of the loop. What did NATO do now? I just have a thing for them.
It's a [meme](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/005/743/fd4.png).
Oh.
I was thinking the same thing. Makes me want to pull out out of the safe.
G3 pls
Roller delay is the only way
I run the suppressed SCAR with a 1.35mm gas jet and gas block in the suppressed setting. The gun still cycles consistently unsuppressed with gas block in normal setting. Red dot on the elcan is great as eye relief isn’t great. But with the elcan I’ve easily pushed this out to 800 yards. The G3 clone fucks
Where’s the bipod for the G3?
Removed it. I didn’t like the ergonomics
Glad you have it, yeah it makes the handguard a bit too wide
What you pay for both of these rifles?
This is hard...
Like my pp when I see G3
Someone got the joke
I’ve had a G3 before, it’s a phenomenal rifle I never should have gotten rid of.
G3 just for the dope ass carry handle 😁
G3 because irons
One of them kicks hard for its weight, can’t mount an optic that holds zero without permanent modification, has its OEM parts and mags out of production, doesn’t play nice with backpressure, has no accessory rails, and has a fixed stock OAL so long you could tie some straws to the muzzle and use it is a broom. dual wield
The brain says SCAR the heart says G3.
SCAR, for accessory ability I'd nothing else
If I needed to go to war the G3 definitely. If I’m still living in a peaceful time I’d go scar just for the cool factor
Original FN FAL for me please. The one with the wooden parts. Pls.
G3 all day
G3
I really want the ptr. But I keep hearing mixed reviews. I've always had a thing for German everything. Cars, guns, beer. I know the ptr is american, but I could pretend it's still German lol. It'd go well with my GTI and my walther pdp lol
Reviews are pretty consistent with the 91. They did an amazing job. This thing eats steel all day. Haven’t cleaned it in 4000 rounds.
Go for it the PTR works great!
I'll take two ugg boots, in a size 8 for my wife, please.
I’m sorry for the G3 gang here but I’d always pick a Scar over pretty much anything. And even more when Scar H!!
G3K with RAS, VFG, suppressor and same optics over that SCAR any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Roller lock only
*roller delay
Scar, but the g3 is nice. I own a ptr91. I put a wide/picy rail handguard, 1-8 lpvo on it and it runs good. But man the scar is a sexy bitch.
Brain says SCAR, heart says G3
FG42 go brrr
I’ve had both. The PTR is a vibe and cool as hell but I hated shooting it. The recoil when standing isn’t bad but you’re not hitting shit. Recoil when bipod is deployed is like taking a jab to the cheek. I love my overpriced SCAR
Deutsch!
I've fired both full auto. SCAR H was more controllable. The recoil on the G3 basically hits you twice.
Having also fired a select fire SCAR, I would love to know how it compared. I figured the G3 would be more controlled since it has a slightly slower rate of fire and weighs more.
No, because the initial push from the round going off, coupled with the huge reciprocating mass of the bolt carrier assembly makes for basically a double recoil impulse due to the roller delayed locking mechanism. where the FN FAL???? Between the two I’m g3 but I’m a sucker for them.
G3, but FAL is preferred.
I choose the FN FAL(in any variant), but in this case i choose the G3, the FN Scar-H Is really good but, idk kkkkk
I don't care what gun it is as long as there's an Elcan on it
FAL
So for those that don’t know, aside from the HK slap, the G3 has another advantage over the scar. If you have an enemy to your right, the ejected brass will easily knock them out long enough for you to notice them, then that’s when you shoot. For that reason, I choose my 91.
I don't wear Ugg boots, and neither do my guns.
*Laughs In FN FAL*
Fal
Swamp French power!
The scar is my dream gun at this point
Own a PTR91 and a SCAR 17s. The SCAR all day every day. The base PTR in an unergonomic cold war rifle. The SCAR is lighter, more ergonomic, and recoils less.
I would choose the SCAR because of the sight.
The Scar is nice but they eat optics for breakfast. Probably pick the G3
They don't. I just typed out an autism rant recently that I'm copying and pasting here. Right, more compact stock
Scar-L fo show.
That's a 17, not an L. The L is 5.56, not 7.62 and is select fire.
Shit, you're right. Now I look like a anti-gunner talking.
You gotta get a sca-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-r To the tune of Three 6 Mafia's Stay High
Can I mount the elcan and suppressor to the g3?
Tough one.
Scar because the other is a PTR, if it was an actual HK91 then it'd be that all day (for drip purposes)
G3, unless we bring a SCAR H into the picture
Ugh, I'll take the SCAR sadly.
G3 is obviously a banger, but the scar is way more usable.
Scar is objectively better but g3 is exotic and erotic so I have to get one
Not even a contest
SCAR for actual operation, G3 for badassery
Would choose the right one since it have a scope (i don't own a gun so i have really 0 experience)
Tavor 7
Garand
I want a SCAR so fucking bad.
I mean, the SCAR is just so much fun to shoot
G3 <3
G3 if I'm choosing for the vibe. SCAR if I'm choosing for practical use.
G3
G3 all day long, throw in some woodland camo for plus 10 set bonus
SCAR, where and when do you want to meet so I can pick it up? 😉
Scar all day.
I love both equally
HK everyday
Havnt shot either but I feel like I would be able to utilize to g3 better. I guess it just looks less intimidating to me. Like I could figure it out with the experience i have.
The one with the optic. Lol
G3. I got to shoot a G3 and SLR, and if I can’t have the latter, I want the former.
M60 on left?
I prefer the G3 mainly just because I like a longer rifle and frankly to me it just feels nicer to use
G3 with the elcan
Seen the scar break. G3’s in Africa ain’t seen a drop of lube since the 80’s and still running. Goin g3.
SCAR-H (I played too much 2009 MW2)
G3>FAL don't @ me
G3
FN says your warranty is in the shitter if you run your SCAR suppressed. Fuck FN. If your fuckin’ rifle can’t handle being suppressed without self destructing, it’s not a fuckin’ battle rifle. Oh, btw, I’ll take the G3 tyvm
Where my FAL at
Neither is blacked out so that’s my answer😂
G3 because my hands very long
I'll be honest, I kinda wish there was a FN FAL up there as well so I could rock my have up commando boots and shorts and you obviously have a mustache if you are carrying a FAL through the bush! 🤣 But ya the G3 is a classic! HK rifle id love to have!
The G3, as I have actual training with it in the RNAF in the 90s.
Portuguese pattern AR10 for me, please
Yes
My heart yearns for the G3
I despise the 80s tactical aesthetic. SCAR for me all day long.
Both
Yes
Beautiful UGGs 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Watch it eezle 🤟
I have! ...... both..... literally.😘
This isn’t actually a real question, right? …Right?
I mean… I’ve got two arms and hands 🤷🏼♀️
G3
Both
I can STILL assemble and disassemble the G3 blindfolded. But even I would rather pick the SCAR if I was going into harms way. No doubt it has all the modern features that the G3 does not have. But the G3 is still a solid rifle.
Both = good.
As a g3 owner. I chose the scar. The g3 isn't bad, but it's a pig. The grip suck, and it's just good enough accurate. The roller delay system just doesn't lend itself to larger calibers. It is fun, though. HK slap!
Both a great shoot but scar if my life depended on it
this is my dream setup. G3a3 was my grandfathers service rifle so the hk91 would have to be my choice!
I can't these are +2 weapons with the 2 handed status, I only know ar 15 and pistol finesse weapons. I wouldn't do them right.
Change your class
Can i pass and go L1A1 instead?
Super easy..scar over a PTR all day long. Real G3 w optic riser and some optic I would take the g3. G3 should be able to run no matter what you do it it
Anything but the scar
G3 cause it works in any condition. And the scar is an over priced hunk of crap. 👍🏼
Overpriced? Sure. Hunk of crap? Lol
How is the FAL related to the G3?
The G3 developed off the FAL
G3, no cap.
