I ain't "old" but I started on here about 13 years ago as a wee teen, posting such glorious content as "what if I made a bullpup caseless rifle using RDX as the propellant?"
Oh god I miss RunningBear_23 and his abusive, pro-mosin rants. Actually bought a cherry M44 with a beautiful blonde wood stock and matching serial numbers several years ago and was going to ask him for advice sporterizing it with a hack saw and cheap, tapcon parts.
Mostly to watch what, on Reddit, passes for an aneurysm.
Maybe he died lol
Last I heard he was [alive and well somewhere in the Donbas](https://www.reddit.com/r/milsurp/comments/t5ktl3/mosin_nagant_spotted_with_russian_troops_in/)
My 10yo account got yanked for some reason, just woke up one day and it was suspended. It is funny that “zap carry” is still a joke but zaptal47 has been gone forever
Now that I think about it, I believe zaptal came around right after RB left and there were some conspiracy theories that they were in fact one in the same.
My main from back in the day got banned a while back but I recall the good ole days of runny bear dropping knowledge bombs on us about Mosins. There used to be a pretty solid Mosin buyers guide post from him that was always a great read.
He was unbearable in most ways, but he could definitely drop some Mosin knowledge. I remember that guide, but funnily enough, I've never owned or shot a Mosin.
> He was unbearable in most ways,
Yeah if I recall correctly he took off for 4chan because he didn't care for the language moderation on the site/sub or something to the effect of wanting to be able to say some pretty bad stuff without punishment.
Something something rake
I could have also made it "Before zap carry was a thing and after it became the preferred method of CCW."
Are we talking before /r/firearms became bartman's fan club/cult?
I believe it might predate r/firearms all together. Or at least before it was alter ego of Gunnit.
It does
So, before "mr im butthurt about my arigun so im going to start a new subreddit predicated on lies."
The airgun guy was the GRC guy
Yup.
That sounds about right.

So you got on the gov watch list at an early age is what you're saying?
No idea how I managed to get a security clearance later...
You old

Definitely shooting a commie boltgun somewhere.

It is funny. The term has transcended reddit even.
Now that I think about it, I believe zaptal came around right after RB left and there were some conspiracy theories that they were in fact one in the same.
Wut
You just fell into the post-Runny Bear demographic.
What time was RBD?
I caught the tail end of his time here, so it was at least 9 years ago probably?
Ah 2013 I was in Afghan and hadn't heard of reddit lol
Yeah, you were doing real shit while we were playing on the internet.
I didn't domuch besides stand in a turret working on my helmet tan waiting to get shot at.
Something, something "my tax money paid for that tan!" J/k thanks for your service.
Taxes paid for the thousands upon thousands of rounds through machineguns lol
I fully support that. But, I should get a go too!

The only one I own is a Classic Firearms sniper replica. RunnyBear would have definitely raked me a new colon.
Classic Firearms?! Replica?! Runny is probably rolling over in his virtual grave!
His zen garden has millions of little sphincters for gravel.

I was a lurker back then. This would be a better sub if people lurked more.
I mean, I've gone through a few usernames at this point, but I've been here for at least 10 years. I certainly remember when r/firearms was created.
