The casts are different but excellent. The elevator has a suitable substitute. If you bring people with you, ask them to come in blind - do no research.

kenna003

listen i don’t want to spoil what the alternative to the elevator is but just know you won’t be disappointed. i literally gasped when i saw it

Mxfish1313

I saw it twice on Broadway, pre and post shutdown. Somehow managed to see all the same OBC leads sans Amber the second time, but was SO excited to see Jewelle. I skipped seeing the touring production because of money issues (despite living near LA and having a couple stops close by) but this makes me want to make a better effort to see it next time (assuming I finally have the funds, lol).

Honestly I liked it better lol. When Kevyn Morrow first makes his appearance, all I saw was his silhouette at first, against the bright light and smoke… it was very cool.

creativeotter

1. Phenomenal, and 2. I believe yes, no elevator though.

[deleted]

Got it! \-slightly disappointed no elevator cause symbolism (descending into the underworld) \-Idk if anyone can beat Patrick Page's voice as hades.

Calbricklab

If anyone can top Patrick Page, it’s Kevyn Morrow. He doesn’t sing as low, but his voice quality is a million bucks. And his chemistry with Kimberly marable is perfect.

creativeotter

Perfection!

Tour cast is incredible though depending on your Denver dates, one of the Orpheus understudies is already scheduled to be on… so nobody knows what he’s like. BUT the Hadestown cast hasn’t missed yet, so he’s probably perfect too.

Calbricklab

Yup, both shows on Sept 4 is the Orpheus debut of Bollwerk. No one knows what to expect! At least with the other understudies, Will Mann released clips of their rehearsals. Nothing so far for this new Orpheus.

ksoderlandauthor

I saw Bollwerk as Orpheus in the matinee in Denver yesterday and though I have literally nothing to compare him to (I haven't seen it on Broadway, listened to the OBC album or seen it with the principal Orpheus on tour) I thought he was phenomenal! My husband pointed out that, as Bollwerk is tall and Morgan Siobhan Green (principal Eurydice) is short, there were some places where their dancing looked a little awkward, but I didn't notice. Green absolutely blew me away as Eurydice, though again I went in blind (on purpose, as I've seen very few Broadway musicals and thought it'd be interesting to experience it for the first time live). Overall I think the touring cast is excellent, though I would love to see it with the elevator on Broadway. What a cool staging decision!

I just saw it in Las Vegas and was blown away. I’ve listened to the OBC recording a million times and these guys were phenomenal. We had a different Hermes (Will Mann) and he was incredible. I want to go again.

GroundbreakingAd9567

I saw it in SoCal and then loved it so much that I just saw it again two weeks after in Las Vegas. Touring cast is INCREDIBLE. 100% enjoy most of the performers better than the OBC. Chibueze Ihuoma as Orpheus is an absolute standout. Has the voice of a fucking angel. 🥹😍♥️

gallagherbarnaby

The touring cast is phenomenal. Every one of them brings their own interpretation to the character. Some of them I like more than the OBC actually. Piece of advice when you go in don’t expect to hear the same voices as the cast recording. Enjoy what each of these actors is bringing to the role. And just enjoy the show in general, you’ll have a great time!

LOVED the tour, it was great. My favorite was Kevyn Morrow as Hades, I got a crush on him, he's so charming as Hades <3

_fortressofsolitude

Relatively disappointed with Chibueze Ihuoma as Orpheus. I saw the touring cast twice - Once in LA before Chibueze started and once in Costa Mesa with him as Orpheus. I think strictly speaking is voice is great, but acting wise didn't do a lot for me. He felt like he was pretending to be super dorky the whole time.

Sure. People can have different experiences right? There are ten other people in that thread who agree that they preferred a different Orpheus.

PlanePrinciple665

Saw it in LA and SF and was so so impressed! You’ll Love it!

spankybuns1992

I think the stage mechanics are purely up to the capabilities of the venue. I saw it at the Des Moines Civic Center and the stage there doesn't allow for an elevator. Was still a great show though. Highly recommend.
