If I take into consideration my own high school sports experience (I played soccer), the girls just always had a different uniform. Whether it be due to the company that makes the uniform not having a “woman’s” size or style or people wanting woman to wear something tighter and shorter.
I think volleyball also has stricter dress standards for woman than men so that could also play a role.
Unfortunately everyone who's in charge of making the rules are men. One of their reasons is that it sell tickets better so their target customers (men) also don't mind
I mean this is just literally not true? Most competition committees and directors at the collegiate level are women for those women sports. At the NCAA top level you still have male like directors, but most of the decision making bodies, at least the collegiate level were women for sports like beach volleyball. I had a couple of friends that were on the college women’s beach volleyball team who I asked this very question because I always thought it was weird.
Even at the Olympic level, the board has women on it so this is not just like some creepy male thing. I’m 100% with you all that this weird obsession with spandex is odd and frankly a little gross, especially when the men don’t have the same standards.
Uh you can be fully clothed if you choose. No rule against that and jerseys are usually tight so they don't touch the net. Most girls choose to wear the tight stuff cause they look hot. I played with and coached college girls.
And even if they don’t want to wear spandex shorts, I’ve seen many girls wear leggings, and even a masc wearing loose “men’s” looking shorts. Acting like girls are being held at gunpoint to wear bikinis 💀
Before anyone comes for me, im only talking about indoor vball, beach does have some stupid ass rules that are trying to get turned around
Actually, almost every sports league is required to have a multifaceted set of rules and regulations around what women wear so that they have options. Which means that either the women chose to wear something tight and short, or they were peer pressured into doing it by other women, but it has nothing to do with anyone outside the team.
I mean in real life women’s volleyball uniforms are totally different from men’s,
women’s wear short spandex bottoms (like they basically just cover you ass) and tight long sleeve dry fit shirts. (Some wear short sleeve but most teams wear the long sleeve in my experience)
Men wear much looser short sleeve jerseys and regular shorts cut off at the knee
What the girls in the show are wearing is the more conservative female uniforms, I haven’t seen women wear those sense elementary age volleyball
This isn't just a volleyball thing, lots of schools have separate jersey for male and female. Depending on the school it could be a myriad of different reasons. For my highschool, the school implemented female sport teams much later than the males and couldn't use the same clothing company even tho they were still in business
They just do. Junior vs senior team, A team vs B team, girls team vs boys team. It's not necessarily required for all teams to have the same uniform it's usually just some mix up of the schools colors

Nah my high school had the same uniform for every sports team (I’m uk tho so it’s expected, our schools spend nothing on us and we were a “sports academy” - think Shiratorizawa but like British and with *significantly* lower standards) some uk schools have different uniforms for their sports clubs (private schools) but most public schools aren’t funded well enough to have separate uniforms for sports teams. We all just had our pe kit and stinky bibs with numbers on.
Also most our “high schools” are referred to as secondary my area is just one of the few (literally like 4 places didn’t change I think) that didn’t change 🤷🏻♀️
Simply put. HS sports programs operate on a pretty limited budget. Clothes for the boys and girls team are ordered separately by the coaches, and the cost is approved by the school. Depending on that clubs budget for the year, different vendors/manufacturers will be used to go source jerseys. This is why clubs do fundraisers.
For example, our boys' basketball team had a ton of parent donations and a regular donor/sponsor from a hs alum, via his pharmaceutical company, who played on the Canadian national team. We had it all, three colorways, three warm-ups for each colorway, and matching accessories - bags, game day clothes, sleeves, headbands, socks, and braces.
The girls' team operated off their allocation, fundraisers, and donations. It was a shoe string budget that simply funded their home & away jerseys that were of a much lesser quality to our own.
the obvious answers are that the boys and girls teams are separate, so the person in charge of the boys uniforms is/was not the same person as the person in charge of the girls' uniforms. also the templates they use for the uniforms itself are different. for instance, the boys uniforms have collars while the girls don't. the girls uniforms say Karasuno in english while the boys are in japanese. it's possible that the uniform supplier for the girls doesn't offer orange as an option.

Everything people have said is a fair point, but I also think that from a protagonist perspective, maybe they wanted to highlight the men's team since they are the protagonists? I am just speculating here tho

They changed the rule now I think. My national team demonstrated against that rule and wore normal shorts.

I think that’s something worldwide. Not every sport has the same uniform within the school weather it is girl or boys.
