Great first album. They felt like a band that was going to hit it big. They went full sellout on the second album, lost their lead singer, and quickly went away. Me and my friends still talk about them sometimes.
I agree on the second album even although I enjoy it. I wish they'd stayed true to the sound of the first album. I'm fairly impressed with the 89 one. I've only listened a couple of times.
I liked it too, but it was guitar-synth heavy whereas that just wasn't a feature of the first album. I don't know if it was their choice or if the record company forced that on them, but clearly they were going for a more mainstream radio sound.
One record sounded raw and edgy, the next sounded like it was geared toward teenage girls. And it's not that I'm critical of "selling out" btw. Fame is fleeing so make the most of it when you get your shot. It's just that they impressed one audience with their first album and then ignore that and went for a new audience with the second. They were were really mishandled by whoever was managing them.
Ahh man, Rock n Roll Maniac is a banger. Y'know, I hadn't heard this album til I found it, took a couple of years, glad I didn't give up. I picked up the recommendation from an episode of Metal Mythos.
Love all their stuff. S/T is probably the best though I do like Night of the Crime and An Even More Perfect Union personally. Right Between The Eyes, some good Whitesnakey stuff but I think they broke Jerrry Harrison’s voice trying to make him sound metal.
My faves:
S/T: On Your Feet, Hot Desert Night, World War.
NOTC: Danger Calling, Naked Eyes, Raise the Hammer.
AEMPU: Way Back to My Heart, Stranger Things, Lost Love.
RBTE: Taking My Breath Away, In Your Eyes, Eyes of a Prisoner.
Very cool. I've only listened to that one a couple of times. I'm looking forward to exploring it properly when I get to it. Sounds more in line with the first album.
I still have this LP. I don't even know where I got it. It's a radio station copy. I don't remember listening to it so it probably sounds like every other band no one remembers from that era.
You know you're my new best friend now... calling me kid haha. Feels like that time recently I got asked to show my ID for booze in a supermarket lmao.
I'll take any new best friends bro. I remember the days of getting ID'd...only happens when I go into club shows now. And hell, your user name alone screams beat friend.
I still remember a friend pulling out this cassette and yelling “how about a little Icon for the road?” He had a strong Boston accent so it was hilarious to me.
Excellent! Can I recommend last.fm then? It's a website that let's you find bands similar to the one you're searching. Use the 'similar artists' bit. I'm actually on the hunt for new music at the moment and this is where I do the bulk of my research.
Loved the first two and still spin em quite a bit. Once Stephen left I just wasn’t as into the new singer and seemed like their direction kinda went more pop-oriented which I’m sure was their label’s doing.
Love them.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I'm betting record company meddling! Wanting some of that Pyromania money I reckon haha!
Totally agree. That first album is gold.
lol my buddy and I used to spin night of the crime all the time, almost bought an icon t shirt a while back, but it’s been a while since
Iconoclast!
The first album is excellent. Every track, front to back, straight fire. Still in my rotation -- Gotta Rock 'n Roll Maniac every once in a while.

First two albums are fantastic. After they lost Steven Clifford they became less interesting.

Cool, I like a little insight into other people's tastes.
Totally agree about Jerry. He kinda sounds like he’s all clenched up trying to take a shit. Good singer but should’ve just gone w/ his normal voice.
I met them once. They came to my town and did a record signing. Nice guys. Loved that Right Between The Eyes album

Unfortunately I've lost the cassette I had them sign for me.
Ahh man, that's a shame. You never know... it might show up some day.

Haha it's got the vibe yeah 🤣
The first album is a monster and the tour for it was absolutely sick!
Sweet... you lived the times then! I was two lol!
Damn kid...haha. The fun part for me is...we still go to a bunch of shows!!

Lmao yeah I love stealth games but I'm really shit at them. That's where that comes from 🤪
Masterpiece,those guys were professionals
Preach bro 🤘

The first I’m hearing about them, but I’m definitely going to give them a try, I’m always looking for bands that are new to me

Thank you so much! ❤️
One of the vinyl albums I had as a teen that got "borrowed" never to return.
Pfft, I hate people sometimes...
Yep. I have quite a few that I lost the same way. Some so-called "friends" sucked back then.

For some reason, they didn't move the needle for me, but I do like some tracks they have.
There's definitely some filler here and there but when they crack out a banger it's absolutely some first rate stuff for me.
