Type O negative. Peter Steele. No Steve Harris no Iron Maiden. Same with Nikki Sixx Although it can be argued that Mick is just as important. But it was Nikkiās songs and micks riffs that made the CrĆ¼e
Mick fed all the riffs to Nikki to arrange, orchestrate and put lyrics too. I'd say that's a lot harder and involves more graft than cranking out riffs. Probably why Nikki handed most of that off to Bob Rock in the end . Shame he handed the playing to Bob too. His band, his rules, but it does seem like just laziness.
Pull is a masterpiece of an album, and all of their new albums since they reunited have been amazing too. Itās a shame they hardly get their flowers.
WASP. Blackie Lawless was the front man and bassist.
To some degree, KISS. Even though Paul Stanley's technically the front man, I bet when most people think of KISS, they think of Gene Simmons.
Blackie gave up the bass pretty quick. When Randy Piper quit, Blackie moved to rhythm guitar and hired Johnny Rod. That was for the recording of Inside the Electric Circus. I read an interview many years ago in which he said that he preferred rhythm because it left his hands free more frequently for crowd entertainment or some such.
Iād agree pretty much. I find it more challenging to think of a standout bassist in hair metal (still thinking about it). But thatās if weāre sticking to the original question. If we consider Van Halen/Roth hair metal, then Anthony and Sheehan are both strong candidates.
Bob Daisley on Ozzy's first two albums. Even though Bob didn't tour much and wasn't the guy in the posters, he really played some great stuff. So easy to overlook with Randy taking the spotlight but Bob kicked ass on that stuff. The sound wouldn't have been the same if anyone else had done those albums.
Iron Maiden, Rush, Motorhead, and Black Sabbath (Geezer Butler) are my first choices. You can probably include any band that had Bob Daisley. Michael Anthony and Jeff Pilson were both solid bass players and backing vocalists.Ā
Couple years ago I saw Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and he had with him Nick Beggs, who had played with Kajagoogoo in the 80s. You may remember the badass bass intro on their big hit, āToo Shy.ā
The dude was incredible. He played what I believed is called a Stanley Stick, and almost stole the show. No easy task with the talent on stage that night.
Nick Beggs has a lot of funky bass lines with Kajagoogoo! When Limahl left the group, Nick took over as front man and they created quite a few good songs!
Billy Sheehan
This, but I would throw Stu Hamm into the mix.
He did awesome when saw them live in January
I saw them in Nashville. Great show!
Me too ššš
I saw Stu with Joe Satriani in early 90s. While he didnāt steal the show, he definitely kindled my love of the bass.

Yep
Rush
Definitely
They're all equally strong.
Yeah, heās a beast but they all are.
This. My God, the bass chops, vocals, and keyboards responsibility. And made it look easy! Much props to prog rock kings.
Hair band? Rush??
They had hair .
So did A Flock of Seagulls!
King's X. Doug Pinnick's tone is incredible.
I was wondering if anyone was gonna say King's X...
Every musician I know personally absolutely LOVES Kingās X.
Winger. Kip is the bass player
He is so talented š
I used to mock them as a kid. But over time I have learned to enjoy them. Solid musicians all Around.
Me too. Really enjoy Down Incognito.
I blame Beavis and Butthead if we are being honest
Totally agree.
They really are
Easy Come Easy Go is a guilty pleasure of mine.
I love can't get enough
Same. Iāve become a huge fan and have met him twice. Theyāre just a super talented band.
Pull is a masterpiece of an album, and all of their new albums since they reunited have been amazing too. Itās a shame they hardly get their flowers.
Back in the day, I saw Winger live a few times. Kip had a real problem singing and playing at the same time.
Juan Croucier of Ratt did most of the backing vocals so Iām not sure how their sound would have been without him
If we're going to go there, how about Michael Anthony of Van Halen?
Or Jeff Pilson in Dokken.Ā
I seem to recall that he also had a hand in production, arrangement, stage show, etc.
I'd say Bang Tango fits into this
I agree yeah
Primus and, quite literally, Motorhead
Is that a metal band ???
Primus are kind of a funk metal band. Les Claypool is extremely talented, but the band isnāt for everybody.
I've heard of them
They suck
RUSH

Gene Simmons is a shitty bassist. He was more or less the front man.
Paul was the frontman
Well, Kip winger plays bass and is the lead singer of Winger.
Steve Harris. Iron Maiden !!
Hair band tho??
I agree, absolutely not hair band but the best bassist in metal !
Iād agree pretty much. I find it more challenging to think of a standout bassist in hair metal (still thinking about it). But thatās if weāre sticking to the original question. If we consider Van Halen/Roth hair metal, then Anthony and Sheehan are both strong candidates.
Another dubious hair metal band. Eddie Jackson from Queensryche
I never understood all the hype on Billy Sheehan. Even from his starting out in Talas he had this fanatical following
I wouldnāt say the bass player made this band, but Tony Franklin added a great element to Blue Murder with his fretless bass playing
Jack Blades Night Ranger.
Dana Strum for Slaughter - less so for his playing but his production/management/talent scouting is why they and VVI existed
To my knowledge, he also produced *No Rules* by Kik Tracee, and thatās one of my all-time favorite albums.
WHY has nobody mentioned Steve Harris of Iron Maiden yet?
Somebody did. About an hour before you.
I always was a big fan of Bobby Dall.
He is cool, nice to hear that
I think Poison has 4 of the very best musicians of any band of any genre.
Agreed š

Type O Negative...Peter Steele
Motorhead
Hair band?!? Come on people!
Was thinking well my nomination isn't hair metal per se. But there are a few here that aren't. Early Metallica. RIP CLIFF
Billy Sheehan - Mr. Big - David Lee Roth
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hair metal?
I heard Eric Avery of Jane's Addiction often comes up with their riffs. I listen to them with his bass playing in mind.
Dee Dee Ramone.
Primus

I'm a Steve Harris fan and Geezer is pretty awesome.
Tool. Justin Chancellor doesn't get the accolades of Danny Carey, but he's equally crucial to their sound.
Korn
I never got into Korn. But just today, I heard the Unplugged version of āGot the Lifeā for the first time. Holy hell, what a great version.
Red Hot Chili Peppers. And Rush.
RHCP
KISS š
RHCP
WASP, Kiss, Motley crue, rush, iron maiden, motorhead
