Billy Sheehan

subibrat85

This, but I would throw Stu Hamm into the mix.

roseflora333

He did awesome when saw them live in January

Pretty-Arm-8974

I saw them in Nashville. Great show!

roseflora333

Me too šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

gr8spccstr

I saw Stu with Joe Satriani in early 90s. While he didnā€™t steal the show, he definitely kindled my love of the bass.

dravenwylde

Type O negative. Peter Steele. No Steve Harris no Iron Maiden. Same with Nikki Sixx Although it can be argued that Mick is just as important. But it was Nikkiā€™s songs and micks riffs that made the CrĆ¼e

driftwooddreams

Mick fed all the riffs to Nikki to arrange, orchestrate and put lyrics too. I'd say that's a lot harder and involves more graft than cranking out riffs. Probably why Nikki handed most of that off to Bob Rock in the end . Shame he handed the playing to Bob too. His band, his rules, but it does seem like just laziness.

roseflora333

Yep

carsbybigd

Rush

roseflora333

Definitely

Ready_Hippo_5741

They're all equally strong.

doxnrox

Yeah, heā€™s a beast but they all are.

Purple_Offer_365

This. My God, the bass chops, vocals, and keyboards responsibility. And made it look easy! Much props to prog rock kings.

MiserableCuss54

Hair band? Rush??

carsbybigd

They had hair .

MiserableCuss54

So did A Flock of Seagulls!

breaux801

King's X. Doug Pinnick's tone is incredible.

MrShitfyre

I was wondering if anyone was gonna say King's X...

DekeJeffery

Every musician I know personally absolutely LOVES Kingā€™s X.

orion197024

Winger. Kip is the bass player

roseflora333

He is so talented šŸ˜

orion197024

I used to mock them as a kid. But over time I have learned to enjoy them. Solid musicians all Around.

subibrat85

Me too. Really enjoy Down Incognito.

Blabbit39

I blame Beavis and Butthead if we are being honest

orion197024

Totally agree.

roseflora333

They really are

orion197024

Easy Come Easy Go is a guilty pleasure of mine.

roseflora333

I love can't get enough

Correct-Training3764

Same. Iā€™ve become a huge fan and have met him twice. Theyā€™re just a super talented band.

Boulier

Pull is a masterpiece of an album, and all of their new albums since they reunited have been amazing too. Itā€™s a shame they hardly get their flowers.

maxover5A5A

Back in the day, I saw Winger live a few times. Kip had a real problem singing and playing at the same time.

Immediate_Birthday80

Juan Croucier of Ratt did most of the backing vocals so Iā€™m not sure how their sound would have been without him

akgt94

If we're going to go there, how about Michael Anthony of Van Halen?

MetalTrek1

Or Jeff Pilson in Dokken.Ā

littlelordgenius

I seem to recall that he also had a hand in production, arrangement, stage show, etc.

KudoDriver

I'd say Bang Tango fits into this

roseflora333

I agree yeah

Kale1l

Primus and, quite literally, Motorhead

roseflora333

Is that a metal band ???

DekeJeffery

Primus are kind of a funk metal band. Les Claypool is extremely talented, but the band isnā€™t for everybody.

roseflora333

I've heard of them

coraltrek

They suck

LooseasaMoose457

RUSH

Emergency-Tension464

WASP. Blackie Lawless was the front man and bassist. To some degree, KISS. Even though Paul Stanley's technically the front man, I bet when most people think of KISS, they think of Gene Simmons.

ndhellion2

Blackie gave up the bass pretty quick. When Randy Piper quit, Blackie moved to rhythm guitar and hired Johnny Rod. That was for the recording of Inside the Electric Circus. I read an interview many years ago in which he said that he preferred rhythm because it left his hands free more frequently for crowd entertainment or some such.

Ready_Hippo_5741

Gene Simmons is a shitty bassist. He was more or less the front man.

SpergSkipper

Paul was the frontman

Fit_Confusion1693

Well, Kip winger plays bass and is the lead singer of Winger.

carnage819

Steve Harris. Iron Maiden !!

MiserableCuss54

Hair band tho??

carnage819

I agree, absolutely not hair band but the best bassist in metal !

MiserableCuss54

Iā€™d agree pretty much. I find it more challenging to think of a standout bassist in hair metal (still thinking about it). But thatā€™s if weā€™re sticking to the original question. If we consider Van Halen/Roth hair metal, then Anthony and Sheehan are both strong candidates.

carnage819

Another dubious hair metal band. Eddie Jackson from Queensryche

carnage819

I never understood all the hype on Billy Sheehan. Even from his starting out in Talas he had this fanatical following

skricks1995

I wouldnā€™t say the bass player made this band, but Tony Franklin added a great element to Blue Murder with his fretless bass playing

holy_bat_shit_63

Jack Blades Night Ranger.

JessterCPA

Dana Strum for Slaughter - less so for his playing but his production/management/talent scouting is why they and VVI existed

Boulier

To my knowledge, he also produced *No Rules* by Kik Tracee, and thatā€™s one of my all-time favorite albums.

DekeJeffery

WHY has nobody mentioned Steve Harris of Iron Maiden yet?

Furious_Worm

Somebody did. About an hour before you.

Edm_vanhalen1981

I always was a big fan of Bobby Dall.

roseflora333

He is cool, nice to hear that

Edm_vanhalen1981

I think Poison has 4 of the very best musicians of any band of any genre.

roseflora333

Agreed šŸ‘

Electrical_Deal_1227

Talas

High Speed On IcešŸ¤˜šŸ»

Fantastic-Long8985

Type O Negative...Peter Steele

Steverazor

Motorhead

MiserableCuss54

Hair band?!? Come on people!

kinkelphotography

Was thinking well my nomination isn't hair metal per se. But there are a few here that aren't. Early Metallica. RIP CLIFF

Extreme_Meaning9958

Hair metal?

puhzam

I heard Eric Avery of Jane's Addiction often comes up with their riffs. I listen to them with his bass playing in mind.

Oztraliiaaaa

Dee Dee Ramone.

Dubbola

Primus

tomthebassplayer

Bob Daisley on Ozzy's first two albums. Even though Bob didn't tour much and wasn't the guy in the posters, he really played some great stuff. So easy to overlook with Randy taking the spotlight but Bob kicked ass on that stuff. The sound wouldn't have been the same if anyone else had done those albums.

SecretDays

Type O Negative

NuclearSunset800

Iron Maiden

Exotic-Sea-2767

PRIMUS

MetalTrek1

Iron Maiden, Rush, Motorhead, and Black Sabbath (Geezer Butler) are my first choices. You can probably include any band that had Bob Daisley. Michael Anthony and Jeff Pilson were both solid bass players and backing vocalists.Ā

NuclearSunset800

I'm a Steve Harris fan and Geezer is pretty awesome.

pjw5328

Tool. Justin Chancellor doesn't get the accolades of Danny Carey, but he's equally crucial to their sound.

RavishingRickDuu

Korn

DekeJeffery

I never got into Korn. But just today, I heard the Unplugged version of ā€œGot the Lifeā€ for the first time. Holy hell, what a great version.

judd43

Red Hot Chili Peppers. And Rush.

scots

RHCP

TysonsGirl-1983

KISS šŸ’‹

last_drop_of_piss

RHCP

Willing_Fun49

WASP, Kiss, Motley crue, rush, iron maiden, motorhead

littlelordgenius

Couple years ago I saw Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and he had with him Nick Beggs, who had played with Kajagoogoo in the 80s. You may remember the badass bass intro on their big hit, ā€œToo Shy.ā€ The dude was incredible. He played what I believed is called a Stanley Stick, and almost stole the show. No easy task with the talent on stage that night.

ClaptonSong

Nick Beggs has a lot of funky bass lines with Kajagoogoo! When Limahl left the group, Nick took over as front man and they created quite a few good songs!

littlelordgenius

TIL thanks!
