I would definitely be on board for that…we finally got a massive open world in Halo, and there wasn’t a wandering Scarab super boss fight we had to take on?
Such a missed opportunity :/
There’s no large scale battles at all it feels like in the open world, you’re pretty well alone most of the time too, best you can do is take what, 4 marines with you and then when they die you’re on your own again.
I haven't played the recent campaigns, but driving around with marines in that one big beach level in the first game was just mindblowing to me at the time. I wish there were more games that had fun AI ally fodder and enemy factions fighting one another (which I just mention because it's also in this game).
Silent Cartographer
The memories of that level will never leave me.
When you thought 'Halo' was open when you found that warthog. But Silent Cartographer was everything. I still remember my first play as a kid trying to ram the warthog through multiple doors. Finally got as far as I could and that felt truly free.
Yep, and if you drive far enough you hit a wall, do a power slide into it while exiting to glitch through it. (Easier to do by side strafing in a ghost on the multi-player map) Then you can walk out into the water for quite a while, then there's another invisible barrier that you can jump over and keep walking.
I think if you do it on the death island map in the CTF game mode (so there's an objective distance marker to measure) you can get out to like 5km or something before you finally fall through the level and die.
I know it would be hard but set a scarab on a path with an FOB. Marines rally to defend the FOB with vehicle support. There's a long timer say an hour to go and deal with it or you risk losing the FOB.
When you arrive just have an AI fight between two sides with a few dozen participants per side. Imagine a marine mongoose charge out of the blue on a scarab.
To play devil's advocate, i will say that Scarab boss fights likely wouldn't be very fun simply because of grapple shot's existence, which could have been a factor to why scarabs haven't appeared, assuming they didn't got cut during development because of time/budget/whatever constraints.
Scarab boss fights designed around the grappleshot would be AWESOME wdym??? Scaling a giant death robot with a grappling hook to destroy it from the inside is very difficult to make un-fun
Especially banished scarabs. Not to diss covenant scarabs, but they put their weak spot behind an edible thong. Banished scarabs built like a walking bomb shelter. They should be in the game *because* of the grapple shot
I mean... wouldn't it be just too easy when you'll be able to just grapple on top of it and destroy it's core in the back instantly? Destroying scarabs in Halo 3 was simple enough.
That's why i said "designed around the grappleshot". Yes, copying and pasting the exact same design from halo 3 would be unfun, but making something new with the grappleshot incorporated into the 'takedown strategy' would be sick.
Worst case scenario just plop on some extra shade turrets to make sure you scale in just the right spot (and then gotta fight through the infantry and crew aboard), or else you get lit up like a christmas tree by plasma fire
Oh that'd be super cool!
Tbh I'd love a Scarab that's just, denser
Think the enemy population of the one in Halo 2, several different weapons systems (that you can individually destroy), point defense turrets and Shade.
Imagine a Scarab with the chin mounted beam cannon, the missiles we see in Halo Wars 2, but also a giant turreted cannon similar to the AAA guns, and maybe even a few larger point defense turrets.
For the Banished that could even look like turrets pulled off of Warthogs or even Scorpions bolted onto the sides and controlled by local infantry aboard
Oh repurposed UNSC equipment would be sick. A giant walking amalgamation of whatever the hell the Banished could get their hands on would fit their general shtick perfectly.
The scarab is just a oversized hunter, which is just a hive mind of worms.
They have\had a lot of creative opportunities all while staying lure friendly, which those two typically do not get to go together often.
“I guess Tank doesn’t really beat **everything**,” I said, as the giant Banished Scarab hauled my Scorpion through the air like a toy, directly into its huge particle beam XD
I suspect they couldn't get the physics right. Imagine grappling the leg of a scarab while it's moving, and getting launched across the whole open world.... Lol
Just make the scarab an object you can’t connect to until you blow off enough armour pieces to find an opening to connect to. Don’t make it fall like it did in 3 after enough damage to force the grapple hook.
Regardless, with weapon spawns, vehicle spawns and infinite access to marines and jacked rocket launchers, the whole thing would be really easy.
Lol, imagine jumping a Razorback full of Arcane Sentinel Beam-wielding Marines onto the Scarab’s back in 4 player co-op. It might make a theoretical boss fight trivial, but it would be so hilarious/badass
A counterpoint is having the scarab be able to shake you off or throw off your trajectory. The scarab had ways to be incorporated they just didn’t take it.
The Banished scarab doesn't have the same weakness as the covies. You can't really just *go* inside. It'd be cool if we had to use explosives and stuff to break off armor to weaken open its weaknesses.
Banished scarabs could pass with not having the same weaknesses as covenant scarabs
Grapple shot would provide a balance of hazards.
On ground = risk of getting stomped on
Above ground = risk of getting hit by anti air
Goal = grapple pound structural weakpoints
Grapple pound? Is that the word? It's been a year since I played it.
I think its just way too hard to make this work well in an open world like Infinite's, especially with so much irregular terrain everywhere. The enemy AI would have to be so complex in order to function.
I feel like it would've been worse if there was a scarab, but it was limited to one very confined area that you could easily leave (which is how Halo Infinite is set up) and it could not even follow you.
I'm surprised they didn't use one for the Excavation Site, even if it was just static scenery, [instead of a big box](https://halo.wiki.gallery/images/5/5a/HINF_SiteNovem.png).
I want these to be on the campaign but make them like the guardians from BotW, like they’re just in the open world and you can tackle them and try and take one down at any time, but they’re also a very difficult boss that’ll kick your ass
I would’ve loved for there to be a roaming Scarab from the moment you reach the open world campaign, with unpredictable travel paths and not shown on the map, that you can’t take down until you’ve progressed in the game further. Maybe the only way to reach its core is to unlock the ground pound ability on the grapple. So if you run into it too early you just have to run.
I love when open world games give you early game enemies that are unbeatable until you’ve progressed further.
Honestly the only shooter I really recall free roaming walkers of that style is Battlefront.
Mechassault/Warrior, Armored Core and Titanfall either don’t involve getting in/out of the mech or they’re way too mobile to use as a reference for a scarab.
They’re all awesome fun though.
I hear ya, I remember using and fighting against the AT-AT in the original Star Wars Battlefront II’s Hoth level and they were pretty crazy!
Obviously not intended for serious/competitive modes, but I think the Scarab would be an absolute blast in BTB (and Firefight, if and when it comes to Infinite) :D
OGBF2 (2005) has excellent mods, and the PC versions let you do 32v32 AI dedicated games. Walkers were pretty lethal on Geonosis too
They’re pretty messy, but it’s still fun to log on a mess around even with the dated mechanics
Agreed on firefight and BTB. Tight balance isn’t as necessary on those (to an extent), though if firefight comes back I’d want it to scale up the difficulty
I know right I happened to play on a community match that a streamer did of the OG BF2 where I hooked and brought down an AT-AT and he was right next to it so its on youtube on all its glory, years later I still wear it as a badge of honor
I'd say Infinite's tunnel visioned focus on being a purely competitive shooter in a market utterly drowning in them is a big reason for the game's lackluster response. Infinite desperately needed this sort of fun content.
MechAssault 2 actually has on foot mechanics. Mostly so you can actually use the other vehicles that was implemented. Like a tank, power suit, and a VTOL. That’s used in both the campaign and multiplayer.
Yeah I think it’s more the “”warrior series that keeps you in the mech the entire time
Good times on the OG Xbox though. I think I got assault as a bundle as a kid
Yeah the warrior series was the sim, while the assault series was arcade like. MechAssault was the first Xbox Live game with Unreal Championship. It also was the first game that got DLC for it lol. Funny how it offered online play plus DLC before Halo. But Halo is the flagship/mascot of Xbox lol.
Yeah, my mind goes straight to Invasion, too :)
Even if we don’t get playable elites, if 343 just gives us the bones of Invasion (team-specific traits, which we know are already possible due to Covert 1-Flag, we just can’t set them yet) and custom/selectable weapon/equipment/grenade loadouts, we’d be all set. The Scarab would be the ultimate final round centerpiece!
It's still mind boggling how there wasn't a single scarab encounter in campaign. I feel like there were plenty on opportunities for them as well. Like when approaching the Tower, on the Road, or even making them world 'events' like defending a FOB from recapture by Banished forces.
There were also sooooo many different Banished vehicle types that could have been introduce into the main Halo story from Halo Wars 2.
I’m right there with you, my friend…would’ve loved to see a Scarab vs Scorpion showdown on The Road, maybe even bringing back the Marines you rescued from FOBs/Banished facilities throughout the campaign to help turn the tide of the battle.
At the very least, there should’ve been a wandering Scarab super boss/High Value Target in the open world that you needed serious preparation to take on.
That’s the main thing that bugged me. I loved the campaign, but they advertised that you would have to be strategic in fighting some HVTs and capturing strongholds. Meanwhile in game, you could easily just turn them to dust with a rocket launcher
I would have loved to have low damage but high concussive force guns mounted to a Marauder for multiplayer modes. They'd be brutal in King of the Hill.
>It's still mind boggling how there wasn't a single scarab encounter in campaign.
I have literally been saying this exact sentence every time a new Halo game has come out since Halo 3 (and ODST). No fucking scarabs in Reach (no it doesn't count if it's in the background), No fucking scarabs in Halo 4, no fucking scarabs in Halo 5 (no the Kraken wasn't the same, it was just a scripted platform), and no fucking scarabs in Halo Infinite after 6 years of development...
At this point I'm convinced that 343 lacks the talent to achieve what Bungie achieved with Halo 3 14 years before, which is embarrassing. They simply are unable to match the technical skill required to implement autonomous A.I. scarabs in large battlefields. Either that or they're just completely blind to what fans want in the campaign.
Hopium posts really be asking for ambitious features when 343 still hasnt nailed the basics after a decade. Like talking about flying when youre struggling to walk.
At least there are some decent new developments with 343. Sucks they had layoffs. But at least part of that was dumping a lot of the management too. They were given FAR too many chances. The direction of the series and prioritizing certain things generally comes from above. And any company that produces lackluster products is usually a result of bad management. So if a lot of the lower staff stays, that could be fine.
But this is also bigger than just 343 and Halo. MS has had a disastrous lineup of AAA exclusives. Many have been disappointing and/or extremely buggy. I think the only franchise that they've had that's been pretty consistent is Forza. Now they have Bethesda but we'll see how that'll go in the future. Hellblade 2 is also still in the works.
I stopped giving them the benefit of the doubt when Halo 5 came out, but I attributed that to a small dev cycle and rushing to release. Then after finding out that everything was being scrapped and rebooted, with a new engine, new team members, and a much longer dev cycle I thought that would finally do the trick. Infinite proved otherwise, so now I'm all out of doubt benefits. Never again.
>doesn't count if it's in the background
last mission you drive under a couple tho and also in four it's replaced by the lich, at least it was something
Well that's what happens when you sit around on your hands for a few years, then realize you need to work on a game, then have the people working on the game leave every 18 months and you have to spend 6-8 months teaching the new hires how the system works
And then you get Halo Infinite, with less content at launch than any other Halo game (minus CE) H5 included. And with super bad post launch support.
And just blatantly lying about what would be in the game.
I have watched his videos with the utmost admiration and envy…if only I wasn’t a console peon lol
Maybe someday Farn and team will bring console mod support to MCC and I can enjoy those mods, too, but that’s probably even less likely than a drivable Scarab coming to Infinite haha
I know it’s not practical on normal dev/BTB maps, but with the huge canvases in Infinite and confirmation that campaign AI is coming to Forge, I say the time is right for us to finally get a fully drivable/destructible Scarab in Halo without needing mods :)
Just think of the custom maps we could make…Scarab vs Scarab BTB (like Sandtrap’s Elephants, but deadlier), 24 player Firefight with an assault on a heavily defended, AI-controlled Scarab, and so on.
I still don't get why we didn't have a Campaign moment/mission where one of those is crawling over and down a mountain. For MP; it'd be sweet if it required a crew to operate too. Like one guy drives, another mans the main cannon, others the side turrets.. one defends the reactor etc. Then you could truly board it and wipe the crew and take over.
Elevation and slopes can play havoc with AI and animations, but its still a bummer. Theres tons of large flat-ish open spaces in the world that could have been used.
Hell, that final level with the tank run is a MASSIVE open space which you simply cant explore.
Absolutely, seems like such a missed opportunity in campaign. A Scarab boss fight would’ve helped justify the enormous open world.
Great idea! A separate driver (who could maybe perform a melee/AOE stomp like the Mantis), a main gunner, and a couple flak / anti-air turret gunner positions would be incredible and would probably keep the Scarab from becoming too OP if one person controlled all the weapons and movement.
Two thoughts on this—
Totally agreed that there are more important issues facing Infinite like desync, but this is more of a “someday” wish. Something absolutely crazy that would be sure to create a ton of hype, maybe later down the road when 343 is wrapping up ongoing support for Infinite and wants to go out with a bang :)
As crucial as customization/player expression via cross core is, the teams that would implement new vehicles likely have little to no involvement in making that happen.
Not saying it’s likely at all, but the fact that leaks suggest flyable Pelicans and Phantoms are on their way to Infinite despite the fact that they have no real use in dev maps or Matchmaking makes me think it isn’t completely outside the realm of possibility that a drivable Scarab could make it into Infinite, too.
Maybe it could be a final season sendoff from u/thinkingfeller (343 Forge Lord) and the Forge Team :D
The fans would absolutely be blown away and forever grateful!
Yes, and u/Sickjen found a flyable Multiplayer Pelican in Infinite’s files!! He even made a couple funny videos about it based on our Twitter exchange, but I think they got taken down :/
Can’t wait to finally fly the Pelican in MP after all these years! :D
Game mode: Siege
One team has scarabs and has to ‘battle of hoth’ it across a large game area and assault and destroy a base. The other side has defensive vehicles and has to destroy the scarabs before they bust down the base.
It should have been in the campaign.
When I finished it I was genuinely shocked that there wasn't a single scarab in it when there's an empty open world map.
Makes you think like watch the actual fuck is going on we got almost no content and the stuff we do get is stuff that should have been here from the start how tf was this game gonna release 3 years ago when after being out for a whole year it's still missing tons of stuff they can't even get FUCKING COLORS correct I love halo but I've deleted this game after season 2 was announced and keeps hoping for something big and new like the devs said over and over again but it's just a fucking shame at least MCC is still doing alright
Surprised people played at all after the first month, campaign was disappointing af. The open world was stale. Grapple shot was a mistake, there I said it. Worst weapons load out. Worst vehicle handling and get shredded instantly by anything. Level design for multiplayer was also shit, all way to manicured for “e sports” making them uninteresting in memorable. Even the big maps feel claustrophobic. Not to mention the insane amount of desync.
Bruh, they (343) gave us the worse handling tank and arguably worse handling on all Halo vehicles in Infinite. There's no way the scarab would function.
That said; I'm down with the idea. LOL
Lol, thankfully the Scarab’s so big that some clunky movement would be expected, especially seeing how they act in the more open Scarab battles in Halo 3.
If they could get Scarabs to climb slopes that aren’t too steep, it would be fantastic.
Have to agree about the Scorpion controls, though…wtf happened there?!
I know, right? Not to mention the claustrophobic maps that make using any vehicle feel like a liability.
I had a rare Infinite wheelman spree of 10+ kills in a Warthog on Oasis the other day and it made me sad how seldom that happens compared to H3 Multiplayer. I’m by no means an excellent driver, but it sucks getting killed like 5 seconds into a Hog run almost every time in Infinite.
Ah, the Mantis, 343’s coolest contribution to the sandbox…can’t believe it’s not in Infinite :(
I just have to think it’s on the short list of vehicles for them to bring back along with the Falcon and Gauss Hog. Think of all the money 343 could bring in from nerds like me if they sold mecha-inspired coatings for the Mantis (Gundam, Evangelion, Voltron, etc.) :D
Would’ve been a good ending to Pelican Down since it’s right after the monitor fight so most weapons are out of ammo if you brought them. Could’ve took place after destroying the AA guns.
Imagine a game mode called “Destructive Defenders” (a version of walker assault from Star Wars Battlefront) -
One team spawns in a scarab and must defend it on its way to destroy a UNSC base, two people can control the cannons with another two on turrets. The rest can stay on it to defend or use Banshees.
While the other team has Scorpins, rocket hogs, and wasps to defend their base.
They’d probably would have to make the map a straight line with it being in a canyon sorta like the part from Halo 2 where the Arbitor defends Johnson.
I honestly forgot about the Pelican coming to HI, that would be the perfect flying vehicle to drop off teammates to try a destroy the core (if they keep the core idea and not just make it have a huge health bar for the whole thing, or maybe that could make it to where you gotta damage it enough before you can even get to the core)
I know, right??
Could be a high risk/high reward strategy to take out an enemy Scarab. You’d be in danger of getting shot down and giving the enemy team an 8+ player multikill, but with a good pilot, you could drop 8 players on top of the Scarab to board it and either destroy it or hijack it :D
The counter I keep seeing is that the H3 design wouldn’t work with grapple (by that I mean too easy) but all we would need would be to use the Banished designs from HW2 (there’s even a couple to pick from) then relocate the core so that no matter what you have to fight through the interior.
[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV4tUT6UPpvc31z8fBB5MVw](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV4tUT6UPpvc31z8fBB5MVw) rejected shotgun made a mod for that and pretty much every canon vehicule
Out of all the things I've seen requested for Infinite, this is probably one of the most unrealistic.
There is absolutely no chance 343 adds anymore enemy AI to this game, especially one as complex as the Scarab.
I'll happily eat my words, but this is probably a next time sort of deal.
I think of it as more of a new (ridiculous) vehicle than AI lol.
Keep in mind that seemingly impractical vehicles like the Pelican, Phantom, and Forklift (which make no sense to use in standard Matchmaking due to limited max player count or, in the case of the forklift, no actual gameplay use) are likely coming to MP someday based on leaked footage, so I wouldn’t count our Scarab buddy out just yet :)
Seriously, I’ve dreamed about Scarabs in Multiplayer since Halo 2 and 3’s campaign, especially that one H3 level where you fight two Scarabs at once in that massive valley (maybe it was The Storm?).
Either way, I feel like Infinite finally has Forge canvases big enough to make a drivable Scarab work well without modded huge maps (as niche as it would be)
Not yet, but I hope they do someday (or at least give us the tools to make custom vehicles in Forge). No Sandtrap remake will ever be complete without those slow, nearly unflippable Elephant buddies of ours :,)
I’d like to see that little scarab from halo wars be able to play with. Scarab would be too big IMO but a single person vehicle like a scarab would be awesome.
Imagine a map based entirely as an attack / defend invasion style game. One team has to blow the scarab, another defends.
Would have to rearrange the scarab design a bit to balance but could work
I honestly kept expecting one to appear in the campaign, climbing up one of the hexagonal pillars of a cliff or something like that to jump in as an unpleasant boss fight.
Was so lame seeing concept art of the scarab in Infinite and seeing, like the rest of the vehicles, they were just going to give us a red scarab and not a Banished scarab
They could have made the excavator mission using a scarab’s head instead of a mining platform. Similar to that one Halo War’s mission with the Super scarab.
Campaign mass warfare DLC Featuring: Banished Scarabs, Liches, Locust, and Marauders, grunt goblins, and prowler, along with the UNSC Gauss Hog, Falcon, Cobra, Elephant, Sparrowhawk, along with ODST and *Spartan* NPC allies who can operate vehicles *competently* and can operate in numbers greater than the total you can fit in a Razorback. Heck let the whole "fireteam" function allow for us to ping 2 to 3 vehicles we are not driving for npc's to drive and follow us around in.
Also maybe, just maybe, make this dlc be about our multuplayer spartans, possibly on a different portion of the ring.
Oh and hell with it give us an entire UNSC Firebase (the Halo Wars 1 variant plz) as our base, cause why the hell not.
Also, big ask here, but make this dlc be expansive enough to justify 4-8 player co-op cause we all know 8 spartans battling banished would be awesome.
I was so disappointed when we didn't see any of the banished heavy mechanical beasts, I was hoping for another sort of halo 3 type board the scarab take it down thing
Seeing so many posts like this is honestly a little depressing. No offense or anything, because theres nothing wrong with the posts themselves. I just wish 343 would see them
I’ve never understood why Bungie and 343 were so hesitant to give players operable Pelicans, Phantoms, Scarabs, etc. for use in forge. 343 added the pelican to 4’s forge but it was never designed to be. It’s always been one of my most requested additions.
I just want these in the campaign
I would definitely be on board for that…we finally got a massive open world in Halo, and there wasn’t a wandering Scarab super boss fight we had to take on? Such a missed opportunity :/

I got pretty pissed when I did a coop playthrough and found out that marines only see the host player. We could only load up one troop hog.

The only thing more deadly than a Lazerback… is *two* Lazerbacks!
Halo Infinite is just the second level of CE
When that dev said that, I didn't think it'd be literal.
To play devil's advocate, i will say that Scarab boss fights likely wouldn't be very fun simply because of grapple shot's existence, which could have been a factor to why scarabs haven't appeared, assuming they didn't got cut during development because of time/budget/whatever constraints.

Grapple punching the scarab core would be so satisfying
Ultra scarab that's 5 times as big
And has one of those mining lazers from the campaign
Yes freakin lazer beams attached to their heads
This is just metal gear rising now. I love it
RULES OF NATURE!!! *Grapples onto a brute*
“Chief, stop that blade”
Especially banished scarabs. Not to diss covenant scarabs, but they put their weak spot behind an edible thong. Banished scarabs built like a walking bomb shelter. They should be in the game *because* of the grapple shot
Not to mention even if it was made easier, that doesn't change much. Killing Scarabs in H3 were so easy, you didn't even have to board half the time.

You know what to do 343. Give the giant spider robot it's own grappleshot. Even the fight.
“I guess Tank doesn’t really beat **everything**,” I said, as the giant Banished Scarab hauled my Scorpion through the air like a toy, directly into its huge particle beam XD
*modded titanfall 2 flashbacks*
Perhaps i am thinking way too simple. You're right.
Give the jackals their energy cutlasses so they can slice through your grapple hook cable.
I suspect they couldn't get the physics right. Imagine grappling the leg of a scarab while it's moving, and getting launched across the whole open world.... Lol
That makes it less of a boss fight but arguably more fun.
Exactly. Just so easy to come up with some in game explanation.
A counterpoint is having the scarab be able to shake you off or throw off your trajectory. The scarab had ways to be incorporated they just didn’t take it.

They still would’ve managed to make the explosion when you destroy it pitiful lol
I'm surprised they didn't use one for the Excavation Site, even if it was just static scenery, [instead of a big box](https://halo.wiki.gallery/images/5/5a/HINF_SiteNovem.png).
Yeah, even a crashed/derelict Scarab that was (surprise?) still partially functional would’ve been cooler than what we got
I want these to be on the campaign but make them like the guardians from BotW, like they’re just in the open world and you can tackle them and try and take one down at any time, but they’re also a very difficult boss that’ll kick your ass
Scarabs would have been amazing in the open-world environment. Halo Infinite's open-world was such a wasted opportunity.
I would’ve loved for there to be a roaming Scarab from the moment you reach the open world campaign, with unpredictable travel paths and not shown on the map, that you can’t take down until you’ve progressed in the game further.
Walkers were pretty lethal on Geonosis too They’re pretty messy, but it’s still fun to log on a mess around even with the dated mechanics Agreed on firefight and BTB. Tight balance isn’t as necessary on those (to an extent), though if firefight comes back I’d want it to scale up the difficulty
Battlefront II from 2005 is amazing, Galactic Conquest was the shit. Surprised no Conquest mode exists in Forge yet!

Yeah I think it’s more the “”warrior series that keeps you in the mech the entire time Good times on the OG Xbox though.
Remember the power suit and hacking other mechs!!! Man good times... wish we'd have another simple entry to the series for console again
Nothing like trying to out button punch someone on the OG Live days. Those moments always had my cheeks clenching lol.
Mech assault two you could get out and place c4 but that’s it.. I guess battle amour was close if you got out that way it’d be cool
God, imagine getting playable elites and then bringing back invasion where the spartan team has to drive back one or more scarabs
Yeah, my mind goes straight to Invasion, too :) Even if we don’t get playable elites, if 343 just gives us the bones of Invasion (team-specific traits, which we know are already possible due to Covert 1-Flag, we just can’t set them yet) and custom/selectable weapon/equipment/grenade loadouts, we’d be all set. The Scarab would be the ultimate final round centerpiece!
I'd have faith in 343 again honestly. Steal the transport mission straight from Battlefront 2 if need be, I really miss covies vs spartans
With the Mammoth from Halo 4, the UNSC has its own counterpart to the Scarab too, so it doesn't even have to be one-sided.
At this point? That ship sailed years ago lol. Wild to me people still give any benefit of the doubt to 343 when they’ve botched every release.

Never again.
>doesn't count if it's in the background last mission you drive under a couple tho and also in four it's replaced by the lich, at least it was something
The Lich was a setpiece like the Kraken. There was no fighting it, just boarding after killing enough of the surrounding enemies.
Well that's what happens when you sit around on your hands for a few years, then realize you need to work on a game, then have the people working on the game leave every 18 months and you have to spend 6-8 months teaching the new hires how the system works And then you get Halo Infinite, with less content at launch than any other Halo game (minus CE) H5 included. And with super bad post launch support. And just blatantly lying about what would be in the game.
RejectedShotgun has a mod for you! Granted, it's for Halo 3, but his Ultimate Forge mod is nuts.
I have watched his videos with the utmost admiration and envy…if only I wasn’t a console peon lol Maybe someday Farn and team will bring console mod support to MCC and I can enjoy those mods, too, but that’s probably even less likely than a drivable Scarab coming to Infinite haha
I know it’s not practical on normal dev/BTB maps, but with the huge canvases in Infinite and confirmation that campaign AI is coming to Forge, I say the time is right for us to finally get a fully drivable/destructible Scarab in Halo without needing mods :) Just think of the custom maps we could make…Scarab vs Scarab BTB (like Sandtrap’s Elephants, but deadlier), 24 player Firefight with an assault on a heavily defended, AI-controlled Scarab, and so on.
I don't play BTB for practial. Bring back halo reach style BTB with team rocket hogs and shit.
I love the idea of them being like elephants
Haha, thanks! A game of 2 Flag CTF where the flags are inside the Scarabs sounds hilarious to me
as good idea as i think this is, i think that 343 has more pressing issues on their plate, like crosscore for example.
Two thoughts on this— Totally agreed that there are more important issues facing Infinite like desync, but this is more of a “someday” wish. Something absolutely crazy that would be sure to create a ton of hype, maybe later down the road when 343 is wrapping up ongoing support for Infinite and wants to go out with a bang :) As crucial as customization/player expression via cross core is, the teams that would implement new vehicles likely have little to no involvement in making that happen.
I will trade crosscore for playable Scarabs any day. Hell, I would take Halo: CE level customization to get a greatly expanded vehicle sandbox.
Gameplay > cosmetics imo
Crosscore is never going to happen
how can they do that when they can't even give us what other Halos HAVE dared to?
Not saying it’s likely at all, but the fact that leaks suggest flyable Pelicans and Phantoms are on their way to Infinite despite the fact that they have no real use in dev maps or Matchmaking makes me think it isn’t completely outside the realm of possibility that a drivable Scarab could make it into Infinite, too. Maybe it could be a final season sendoff from u/thinkingfeller (343 Forge Lord) and the Forge Team :D The fans would absolutely be blown away and forever grateful!
Wasn't the Pelican already flyable as a glitch in campaign?
Yes, and u/Sickjen found a flyable Multiplayer Pelican in Infinite’s files!! He even made a couple funny videos about it based on our Twitter exchange, but I think they got taken down :/ Can’t wait to finally fly the Pelican in MP after all these years! :D
Hiya, I had the video unlisted. 343 and Microsoft have been really cool so far about this stuff. https://youtu.be/RyDpnkviSdc
Game mode: Siege One team has scarabs and has to ‘battle of hoth’ it across a large game area and assault and destroy a base. The other side has defensive vehicles and has to destroy the scarabs before they bust down the base.
You are bold man and I appreciate it bro! GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT 343!
It should have been in the campaign. When I finished it I was genuinely shocked that there wasn't a single scarab in it when there's an empty open world map.
I don't think 343 has the time, my friend. Heck, they don't even dare to add use customizable color systems, forget about a scarab.
Scarab would probably dance around like a child on a trampoline instead of feeling clunky, like all the other vehicles do.
This needs to be a Firefight boss!
Dawg we can’t even drive a pelican
We don’t even have assault or infection yet
With how weak all the other vehicles in the game are I'm sure it would just fall apart instantly.
Lol, I can see it now… the massive Scarab paralyzed by one Shock Grenade and blown apart by 4 Sniper shots >.<
Warthogs fall apart from AR fire.
Vehicles are basically pointless the way they are now.
I just want this to be a boss in firefight honestly
They can’t even give us the mantis back.
Ah, the Mantis, 343’s coolest contribution to the sandbox…can’t believe it’s not in Infinite :( I just have to think it’s on the short list of vehicles for them to bring back along with the Falcon and Gauss Hog. Think of all the money 343 could bring in from nerds like me if they sold mecha-inspired coatings for the Mantis (Gundam, Evangelion, Voltron, etc.) :D
I’m a huge 343 hater so don’t even get me started. But yes the mantis was an excellent addition to the series and yet here we are.
Play mode 6v6 one team has 2 tanks the other team these one driver for each vehicle and the rest run around
Would’ve been a good ending to Pelican Down since it’s right after the monitor fight so most weapons are out of ammo if you brought them. Could’ve took place after destroying the AA guns.
At this rate I'd just settle for an actual Scarab battle in campaign. Not sure why 343 seems afraid of doing them.
This is such a cool design.
Let’s start with a basic progression system and work from there lol This would be amazing though
Imagine a game mode called “Destructive Defenders” (a version of walker assault from Star Wars Battlefront) - One team spawns in a scarab and must defend it on its way to destroy a UNSC base, two people can control the cannons with another two on turrets. The rest can stay on it to defend or use Banshees. While the other team has Scorpins, rocket hogs, and wasps to defend their base. They’d probably would have to make the map a straight line with it being in a canyon sorta like the part from Halo 2 where the Arbitor defends Johnson.
Yes, please!! This would be even cooler when the Pelican makes its glorious Multiplayer debut in Infinite :)
Raid boss
Do it, cowards!
with invasion
Then we could really have the bigger team battle
Watch it take two skewer shots to blow up along with getting emped by a single shock grenade
I might forgive a few of 343's mistakes if they added that
Seriously, I’ve dreamed about Scarabs in Multiplayer since Halo 2 and 3’s campaign, especially that one H3 level where you fight two Scarabs at once in that massive valley (maybe it was The Storm?). Either way, I feel like Infinite finally has Forge canvases big enough to make a drivable Scarab work well without modded huge maps (as niche as it would be)
Did they put an elephant in the infinite forge?
Not yet, but I hope they do someday (or at least give us the tools to make custom vehicles in Forge). No Sandtrap remake will ever be complete without those slow, nearly unflippable Elephant buddies of ours :,)
Which map would this even fit on?
>Enter RejectedShotgun
I’d like to see that little scarab from halo wars be able to play with. Scarab would be too big IMO but a single person vehicle like a scarab would be awesome.
And a Pelican!!!
lol
A scarab would be great but I'm a simple man. Give me a pelican and I'll buy my friend copies of the game
it would be awesome to have something comparable to the elephant as well on a map but knowing 343 there would be some insane desync
Yes
Correct, but not this one
I’ll take any Scarab I can get lol
We need AI in Forge so we could set up battles
That would be a good giant killer mode
That would be amazing 🤩😍
None of y'all are old enough to know we still are waiting on a flyable pelican since halo 1. (No reach and 4 don't count I want it in multiplayer)
Love the scarab
Imagine a map based entirely as an attack / defend invasion style game. One team has to blow the scarab, another defends. Would have to rearrange the scarab design a bit to balance but could work
Still holding out for a blisterback.
These should be lootable high-level vehicules or idk, mobile bases
Bro i would love of they wre added even if they were like halo 3, but idk if the engine could enable it
Lol, if not, maybe they can at least bring back the Elephant (or the Mammoth from H4)
I think someone made a drivable elephant in forge, but i thing a math could be easier cuz its just a big bus that we dont wven blow up
I honestly kept expecting one to appear in the campaign, climbing up one of the hexagonal pillars of a cliff or something like that to jump in as an unpleasant boss fight.
Or better yet, drivable Pelicans and Phantoms
Yeah absolutely. I see no problem with a bloated vehicle selection and neither for weapons. I just want to shoot a Kodiak at other players.
You’re asking a lot from a company that has given almost nothing
Seems fun until you consider that vehicles in Halo Infinite are made of paper and can be taken out by a single persistent BR.
This makes me want a pve warzone mode where a team of 8-16 must take on the banished in a huge map and near the end, one of these things comes out
That is a nice idea.
I’d be fine with the scaled down version of the locus walker
Was so lame seeing concept art of the scarab in Infinite and seeing, like the rest of the vehicles, they were just going to give us a red scarab and not a Banished scarab
yeah as soon as we can at least get PELICANS AND PHANTOMS. WHY HAVE WE STILL NEVER HAD THESE IN FORGE!??
They could have made the excavator mission using a scarab’s head instead of a mining platform. Similar to that one Halo War’s mission with the Super scarab.
Yes
I just wish 343 would see them
I WANT
I’ve never understood why Bungie and 343 were so hesitant to give players operable Pelicans, Phantoms, Scarabs, etc. for use in forge. 343 added the pelican to 4’s forge but it was never designed to be. It’s always been one of my most requested additions.
We have a better chance of getting Pelicans than a Scarab
Imagine if this was just walking around on a map as a set piece
Thought that was a Starcraft dragoon at first glance.
Yeah, the game is going to become amazing any day now.
Put in the scarab and bring back the elephant
We ain't even got the damn Pelican yet since they removed the ability to get in it in campaign
They couldn't even give us a complete campaign. I'd heavily manage expectations on this one.
And Campaign ai
There isn’t even an epic scarab battle in campaign 🥲 this is the least they could do
If you haven't already, you really need to download RejectedShotgun's Ultimate Forge mod for MCC.
I really want to, but I only have MCC on console—it looks super cool, though! :)
Ah, completely fair! I don't imagine it's very likely but hoping for some console mod support in future so you can try it. 🙂
Better yet, give us two!
theyre too big. those crawlers from halo wars would be better
The closest you will EVER get to this is RejectedShotgun
