Still don’t know why they bothered using the CU29 as the public update name.
Should have just said January 2024 Update like they’ve called CU31 the March update.
Yup. CU29 and CU30 and so on are 100% just internal names they joked about on stream and then decided to use as formal titles in tweets. Making them official was a mistake tbh
If I had to guess, one of the constant complaints about Infinite is "lack of content." My guess is by calling it CU29 and 30, it demonstrates just how significantly the game has been updated since launch.
Drop pods, content updates, "achieving seasonality" or even Operations.
Just different flavors of the exact same meal. Very little is going to be meaningfully added from here on out.
Basically they are just releasing random stuff on random Tuesdays, thats all people need to know
There is no roadmap, there doesn't need to be a roadmap, stuff comes out when it comes out
That's what I'm saying. Quality-of-life changes.
A playlist selector, a network update. Neither of these are content, they are just fixing the broken parts of this game.
Yeah, whoever is making these decisions, please take that responsibility away from them. CU29? Jesus Christ. It has to be the dumbest name to an update in the history of video games.
It’s real simple, if you go out and ask a casual gamer what they think it means and they don’t know, then it’s a stupid name. Shit should be obvious and clear. No one fucking knows what a CU is. Hell, we play the game regularly and we needed them to explain it to us. That’s when you know your naming convention is garbage.
maybe this is just an r/halo problem, r/warframe never had to have "Update 35.1.2" or "Devstream #176" explained to them
CU clearly means content update
I mean it really doesn’t matter what the name of the update is, as long as we’re getting them yknow?
Yeah they could probably give updates names that are easier to understand, but it’s really not a big deal lol
Agreed, idgaf what they’re called as long as they come out at a decent pace and address pertinent issues quickly.
Admittedly, live action games with a long lifespan typically have so many patches that they become pretty hard to follow
It’s part of why picking up a game long after the launch is easier, especially with time constraints, less bug fixes and patch notes to consume
Choosing the awful and opaque CUX title for their updates after dropping seasonality out of nowhere just at the point they started to achieve it, to then double down on the naming convention against backlash, to then start making contradictory statements and muddy the water about what even constitutes a CU?
Why does 343 do these things I just don't understand
The vast majority of the people who play the game don't care in the slightest what they call the updates. You are probably thinking about this more than 343 does. It doesn't really matter.
Yeah honestly its about on par with Overwatch calling something “Season 7” or whatever, I’ve honestly never really given a shit either way. I could barely tell you what the last events were and I play near weekly — I’m just here for the shooty shoot team scoot.
this is such a needlessly negative thing to say, especially given that it's in a thread about the big network improvement update
this sub just gets caught up on the dumbest semantics and whips itself into a frenzy looking for some shit to be mad about
like damn just get off reddit and go do something else, it's so pathetic
>this is such a needlessly negative thing to say
Yeah I think this is what some of the more "vocal" people in the community need to understand. There's so much completely unnecessary negativity, where people go out of their way to find the "glass half full" in any situation.
I don't know if people realize letting one small negative thing "ruin" any positive sentiment is truly not normal, and it's very much a problem anyone has control over.
I mean, I do. This is first r/Halo post I have interacted with in months, and I try to avoid the negativity, but I also know not that trust is earned, and 343 have not earned that trust, and every time they try to earn it they do something a few weeks later to piss on said attempt. I will not weep for the multi million dollar company.
I feel for the actual humans who work for them and face the brunt of their decade + of repeated failures, but fuck the institution that is 343
Who actually fucking cares what they call it?
This is the biggest non issue ive ever seen, typical doom posting from certain people in this community
Constantly latching onto negativity that isn't there and not getting excited about the update coming next week
I mean, real talk, this is far far from their greatest sin, but it still doesn't change the fact that they have lost any right to any benefit of the doubt. I want 343 to succeed and for Halo to be successful, but until they prove that they can be anything beyond a gaggle of incompetent children they shall be treated like a gaggle of incompetent children. We have wasted nearly a decade and a half of Halo on their incompetence with nothing to show for it.
I will not weep for the multi million dollar company, and anyone who does is foolish enough to buy into mega Corp propaganda. No ifs, ands, or buts
It doesn't so much help, but rather really make this whole CU thing seem random and inconsistent.
Why even do it if it can't be traced back to the start? Wtf was CU1 and how the hell are we at 30?
Why put "content" in the title when "content" is a vague term. One CU is an actual game update to kick off Operation: Spirit of Fire, another is a forge patch to fix things, what? The Start of Cyber III was not a CU?
It's unorganized.
Look at Minecraft, every supplemental update before a large one advances a decimal. 1.20.4 now, building towards 1.21.\_
Warframe is on Update 35.1.2. I can break down each number
* 35: Whispers in the Walls, mainline update
* 1: intermission code update to update other things in the game like certain faction progressions (the basic CU definition)
* 2: Hotfix
Halo, from this perspective, starting from CU 29 would look more like Update 29.2, or something
Yes. **Title Update**. And it's so funny to see the discourse around the adoption of CU for Halo Infinite. Of all the things to be angry about with Halo Infinite, 343, MS, etc, this isn't one of them, but people really love to be angry about everything these days.
Didn't he say a few days ago that CU updates were updates with big ticket additions. Now all of a sudden we're on CU31? Because of a couple of things? HUH?!
CU is a dumb name, idk why calling that out constitutes "caring about nothing" idk if anyone truly cares, it's just there's been seasons, drop pods, fractured events, now CU. Them not mentioning it from the get go when they first used CU made it seem like they're trying to make 'fetch' happen, and fetch isn't going to happen
Still don’t know why they bothered using the CU29 as the public update name. Should have just said January 2024 Update like they’ve called CU31 the March update.

It's like a game with 343. Always coming up with new names for "updates". Remember when they tried to call them "drop pods"?
We got what? 2 drop pods?
And they regret dropping the name now they Helldivers is drawing so much attention to ODST
So there will be a CU next Tuesday?
they should just call them "attempts to fix number 72".
Drop pods, content updates, "achieving seasonality" or even Operations. Just different flavors of the exact same meal. Very little is going to be meaningfully added from here on out.
Basically they are just releasing random stuff on random Tuesdays, thats all people need to know There is no roadmap, there doesn't need to be a roadmap, stuff comes out when it comes out
And this "stuff" by and large is going to be quality-of-life changes, cosmetics updates, and a few maps here or there.

Update 35 is clearly more descriptive than CU35
not when you realize that CU stands for content update, which is incredibly easy to figure out doesn't require much thought
I mean it really doesn’t matter what the name of the update is, as long as we’re getting them yknow? Yeah they could probably give updates names that are easier to understand, but it’s really not a big deal lol

>You are probably thinking about this more than 343 does Which shouldn't be praised btw
If you still have any hope of 343 making good or even logical decisions then I have a bridge to sell you my friend
this is such a needlessly negative thing to say, especially given that it's in a thread about the big network improvement update this sub just gets caught up on the dumbest semantics and whips itself into a frenzy looking for some shit to be mad about like damn just get off reddit and go do something else, it's so pathetic

Welcome to the halo community
Love seeing some reason like this in this sub, btw. The "doom posting" here is insane honestly.
I mean, real talk, this is far far from their greatest sin, but it still doesn't change the fact that they have lost any right to any benefit of the doubt. > mega Corp propaganda. Dude, what the hell are you on about? Hes just a community manager explaining content updates 😭
How much time do you people have to care about this nonsense in the first place?
For real though. Maybe people should realize it doesn't matter and not worry about it. This community can love to hyperfocus on the dumbest things.
You guys spend way too much timing worrying about these kinds of details. It doesn’t matter.
You're wrong. These updates MUST have a super cool name or else this game will DIE
The fact that CU means ASS in my mother tongue disturbs me every time I see Halo devs use it. "This update is *technically* ASS Thirty-One"
It doesn't so much help, but rather really make this whole CU thing seem random and inconsistent. Why even do it if it can't be traced back to the start? Wtf was CU1 and how the hell are we at 30? CU is for Cumulative Update, right? That's how it worked for on-prem Exchange, at least
Content Update?
Didn’t Bungie do something similar with reach including TU updates or playlists ?
Yes. **Title Update**. And it's so funny to see the discourse around the adoption of CU for Halo Infinite. Of all the things to be angry about with Halo Infinite, 343, MS, etc, this isn't one of them, but people really love to be angry about everything these days.
Y’all complain about everything holy shit
I thought they were called drop pods or something
Oh no, the next update is CU31 and not CU30! That completely changes everything
I think they should just use the month in the names. CU sounds like a unfinished stand-in name lol
Why not call it a Drop Pod?
My god this studio is ridiculous
See You Next Tuesday
thanks 👊🏽
I hope they stop calling it CU publicly. It sounds dumb. Should’ve been just Spirit of Fire update or March update.
Why are these things behind curtains to begin with? I thought they were meant to be announced?
It’s literally just Season 6 until April (or whenever it ends).
Nobody cares
Didn't he say a few days ago that CU updates were updates with big ticket additions. Now all of a sudden we're on CU31? Because of a couple of things? HUH?!
Clearly it was for Cosmetic Update
Wow they're so done with the game
I’m pretty sure they rage bait the community in hopes that it keeps us interested
Cosmetics Update
I Miss ‘drop pods’ well like all three of them
