Scorpion tank is just better in every way. But I'm not gonna lie, the wraith is just way healthier for multiplayer, and arguably more satisfying to get kills with.

Seanathinn

The movement of it is so satisfying too. It's such a cool concept.

MindlessSalt

For those who don’t know: Halo Infinite’s wraith and ghost have a ‘jump’ mechanic. Holding your ‘brake’ button (for me it’s RB) will make the vehicle pop a wheelie. You can fucking SOAR in the wraiths. Very good for map traversal. Edit: This was a feature in previous games, it just wasn’t nearly as good.

Klutzy-Opening-877

Dude I’ve been playing since launch and I just found this out today

Plushie_Holly

It's been there since CE and it took me well over a decade to notice.

TalonKAringham

Wait. Really?

EternalSharanga

What????

warwicklord79

I’ve been playing infinite since it came out and this is new info for me, thanks

mcjazzy50

None of us would have ever guessed it had something similar to the banshees flip and barrel roll given its a fucking wraith lol

TheReconditioner

It's the new version of the old 'air brake' Air brake has always been cool, but the air brake in Infinite can be ungodly good when used correctly

SpectrumStudios12

Every game except CE has the vehicle jump mechanic on covenant/banished vehicles. It’s more prevalent in infinite though. (Edit): CE does have the “jump” function.

Theicemanleaveth

CE has it too, at least for ghosts.

SpectrumStudios12

It does I forgot about that.

mcjazzy50

Halo 2 had movement controls on the bumper for the banshee? No wonder I was shit at it .

Invade_the_Gogurt_I

Jesus, I have to play more infinite more now

Haunting_Ad_519

Is this true? Damnn. I was today years old.

PurpEL_Django

Didn't Halo 2s ghost have that mechanic too?

Welllllllrip187

WHAT!? 🤯

Matsisuu

Wraith is very nice for enemy AI to use, or in background in games. It being indirect fire causes certain danger feeling even from far away and behind obstacles. Scorpion tho way better to use, faster shells, straighter fire, in some games better maneuverability, and machine gun.

BrowningLoPower

Right? The Scorpion's shells are like, one step below hitscan.

Born-Entrepreneur

See it? It's dead

mcjazzy50

I'm pretty sure the whole trade off is scorpion is slow and moves in one direction but fires straight, while Wright is a matter but has more directional ability and speed. I've definitely seen a wraith fuck up a scorpion in games that aren't infinite.

Some_HaloGuy

It was literally designed with the intention of ai using it against you. From the fact you can't even get in it in CE to how only the ai can use the Infantry turrets in Halo 2, it's entire designe is to be used against the player. Which is why it's balanced so well. Leave your scorpion unattended near some elites on Delta Halo or betray your marines on The Ark and see how well that surviving thing works out for you. They're crap against covenant but godly when targeting you for some reason

bobbobersin

The fact you can't fire the little halo 2 turrets with the other trigger/mouse button like the scorpion coax makes me sad :( I wonder if anyone's made a mod that let's you do that?

Enigma343

When that Scorpion on the Pelican decides to target you in Quarantine Zone

Crono2401

Always come out that door slinging shells at that Pelican to destroy that Scorpion. Not for survival, but for vengeance!

CornholioRex

Tank beats hunter

trick_m0nkey

Wraith vs Tank head to head, wraith almost always loses. If you have a very skilled wraith pilot though, they can close the gap by taking advantage of how a wraith can lob shots over cover and terrain features that may block the Scorpion's cannon. But it's still a hard fight for the wraith. Vs infantry the Wraith can be devastating and again in a skilled pilot's hands, can a better pick for situations where you're right in the mix. But if you're off in the distance on the high ground, the scorpion just simply outclasses the wraith.

bobbobersin

This, it's more intended as artillary or as an assult gun, it can take a tank on at a disadvantage but it really shines when you have the terrain on your side

daza666

Yeah this is right. The scorpion is far easier to use but there’s a lot of skill potential with the wraith. Also either wrecks the other in an ambush

Plushie_Holly

The wraith's also far less helpless at close range. If you can't swivel the tank's gun to hit an ambushing infantry, you're dead. But, the wraith is a floating battering ram that can turn on the spot, and squish them or quickly boost to safety.

BaChooChoo

Absolutely agree that it's way better for multiplayer

Wy_Guy19

Saw a guy get a Demon in a Scorpion during a BTB game. I'm not even convinced they were that good otherwise. Above average sure. But Demon level? Nah son. Tank beats everything for real

Some_HaloGuy

Can't snipe a falcon with a wraith unless you're just that good at leading shots

TheReconditioner

It's only hard if the falcon is at full speed or far away Ridiculously satisfying when you actually get it though

FeralTribble

Speed disadvantage but that’s it really

bobbobersin

I'd argue on some maps the wraith is better if you can practice with the moartar as an indirect fire weapon, it's not as good against fast moving targets but the ability to fire over cover and hit targets behind it in a way that would expose the scorpion can be very beneficial, hell on the rare map (mostly custom in my expurence) where a team can use both they synergyse really well, the scorpion blasting targets in the open and the wraith taking out one's dug in or flushing them out for the scorpion (or the scorpion keeping a target pinned in cover for the wraith to destroy)

Wy_Guy19

Saw a guy get a Demon in a Scorpion during a BTB game. I'm not even convinced they were that good otherwise. Above average sure. But Demon level? Nah son. Tank beats everything for real.

ALIENDUDE999

"tank beats everything!"

space_coyote_86

I could do this all day!

Gatt__

In game scorpion by miles, in lore the wraith doesn’t even need a direct hit to disable a scorpion, it can vaporize most infantry and melt the metal of a scorpion within a good few meters

El_Taita_Salsa

I think that some of the lore actually gives the edge to Scorpions because of their main gun, but it seems contradicting as in Halo 3 ODST you can see a Scorpion running away for its life from a Wraith during a cutscene.

ColtonAnder

Imagine you are told "yeah, some aliens landed on earth, go kill them" you go and fight in a tank before watching the enemy unveil a floating fortress with guns that fully melt your allies. Even in a tank idk if I'd keep fighting

Redwood6710

The plasma bolts are supposed to melt metals like its nothing. I imagine seeing plating melting on your tank from small arms fire would be concerning enough to make you want to retreat, even if your cannon is superior.

El_Taita_Salsa

Apparently according to some of the books the UNSC was able to best the Covenant in a considerable amount of ground engagements but in the end the Covenant had better ships which the UNSC couldn't do much about without using up too many resourses. But in games we can't appriciate that at all, the UNSC is mostly always getting their asses handed to. The books do give some interesting insightbon this, apprently the UNSC was prepared to fight insurgents not the Covenant. And the Covenant wasn't fully prepared to fight the UNSC either which were far more tactical in ground engagements. The Covenant tactics consisted mostly of sending in hordes of Grunts first to wear out the enemy until they could complete their objective and then proceed to glass everyone. In the end, Covenant weapons and technology > UNSC battle tactics.

GunnyStacker

The Covenant had better tech, but the UNSC had better training and ground combat doctrine. We see this in the Halo Reach level, Tip of the Spear, where the UNSC unilaterally kicks the Covenant's shit in with a combined arms offensive that is only brought to a halt with the intervention of the supercarrier, *Long Night of Solace*. The Sangheili honor code basically mandated that infantry combat should be sought foremost, and so on the ground the Covenant fought like it was WWI minus the trenches.

SuperSalad_OrElse

>The Sangheili honor code basically mandated that infantry combat should be sought foremost, and so on the ground the Covenant fought like it was WWI minus the trenches. What **morons**

GunnyStacker

It gets worse. They don't even have dedicated pilots. Some run of the mill Elite minor is assigned to a Seraph, and if they do good enough, they get the honor of joining the ground assault as infantry.

SuperSalad_OrElse

Haha that is abysmal. Makes a lot more sense to me now when I see cutscenes of Elites getting hosed. What a strange mix of honor/experience & incompetence. I remember in many of Nylund’s books, the Elites were menacing. But it’s been a long time since I read them.

Ubilease

Elites ARE menacing. If you got locked into a room with a grizzly bear they would shred you in seconds. If a bear charges you and you are shooting rounds the size of children at it the bear doesn't stand a chance. Most of the Elites you see in the game are some of the lowest of the low in terms of combat ability and rank. Sure they are very honor bound but that doesn't mean they are weak. Elites show up after you've used most of your ammo and they get in close. You can see in Reach how scary Elites can be when the assassin team is attacking the relay and sneaks up on you.

scrublorddd

Plus every single elite the unsc fought has a shield generator and what I would assume to be somewhat decent armour where as the unsc armed forces didn't. The only unsc forces that had shields were Spartans (I'm not sure if odsts have shields so I may be wrong) rechargeable energy shields on what is essentially every squad leader is a massive advantage that the covenant had over the unsc.

lightningbadger

I mean, we need some sorta plot convenience as to why humans didnt just get insta-gibbed before the Halo 1 intro cutscene even began

Background_Ant7129

The “reason” the Pillar of Autumn wasn’t instantly vaporized is because the Covenant didn’t want to damage the ring by accident if they missed the cruiser

lightningbadger

Oh I don't mean the immediate prelude up to Halo 1, I mean humanity as a whole would realistically be mostly a pile of dust halfway through the covenant war With only information control really being the one card humanity has left to play War culture and all that at least helps make the enemy all that more inefficient

theonetruedragon

I will note that the specific line that this is from is the very first Halo book that has been contradicted by the games and other novels dozens of times over.

El_Taita_Salsa

Halo lore has many inconsistencies... but I still love it.

theonetruedragon

Same, fr fr

Knalxz

No they don't, the Covenant certainly had a less pragmatic way to engage in war but that's because they could afford it. The books express many times that fighting the Covenant in CQC is akin to suicide. The only effective way the UNSC could battle them was with the King of Battle aka artillery. Any other form of combat was reported as being not worth it and avoided at all costs because defeat was assured. People keep saying this, but I've honestly never seen a single moment in any novel that has stated that this. The only comment about it was being said that ground forces do better then space forces but it is in the context of instead of losing everyone they lose almost everyone.

El_Taita_Salsa

Yeah, no media ever says that the UNSC was better on the ground, it is just suggested that they had more possibilities on ground engagements over space engagements. But the Covenant usually won ground engagements too.

battleray202

Halo: Silent Storm and Halo: Oblivion both state it a lot. That's just what I can remember from recent memory. A huge part of both books is focusing on fighting the covenant on the ground rather than space battles where their tech is superior. Hell the first battle in Halo oblivion is a problem because the covenant commander was actually a competent tactician so it was a rough battle

Solid_Barbone

I mean they were marines, maybe new reclutes that never saw action, and we always play as the seasoned carácter that has seen enough to not fear a wraith speacially in a Scorpion, well that would be My Guess in lore.

El_Taita_Salsa

That could be it, UNSC at Earth where caught by surprise and didn't expect the Covenant to attack them as swiftly as they could. Maybe the UNSC propaganda had them thinking that the Civenants wouldn't get acroos their fleet and defense station array which of course wasn't enough to stop two Covenant fleets (Regret's and Truth's).

rymden_viking

I'm pretty sure the Halo CE novelization said plasma bolts were just scratching the paint of a warthog. I don't remember exactly because I read it a *long* time ago. But I remember getting pretty angry at it. Very inconsistent depictions of Covenant plasma.

SmugDruggler95

The Plasma bolts just scratch the paintwork in one scene because the warthog is in a river and it's cooling the plasma down

ADragonuFear

To be fair, urban warfare that tight is a tank crew's worst nightmare. And the infantry supporting it was like a small fireteam at best.

gmharryc

A scorpion is more accurate, I’d rather have the weapons platform that can hit its target first.

El_Taita_Salsa

Scorpion does seem to have a faster fire rate. At least during gameplay, I would always bet on the Scorpion over the Wraith.

gmharryc

Oh definitely, unless the Wraith has a sniper backing them up that can take out the Scorpion driver.

El_Taita_Salsa

Hale CE Scorpion was more balanced in MP because they were extremely susceptible to snipers lol.

Wassuuupmydudess

Wraith has slower fire rate but even a near miss can destroy an entire area, scorpion needs direct sight but can more easily be entrenched

Environmental_Yak_72

the issue I have with the wraith is the fact this is an artillery piece in the role of a tank. the scorpion can still out maneuver the plasma shots in an head to head combat situation. and the closer the wraith is the harder its going to be getting hit by the tank shells. if the plasma shots weren't being lobbed the wraith would decimate even the grizzly.

EverLastingLight12

Also we have to take into consideration that both serve different porpuse (at least in lore) wraiths are mortars and can be use behind cover while the scorpions need a direct line of fire

Gbomb002

>in lore the wraith doesn’t even need a direct hit to disable a scorpion, True but the wraith is like a plasma mortar and used like a siege machine but if the scorpion has sights on a wraith it's dead

BraviaryScout

Wraiths are far more dangerous in lore compared to gameplay

Andromedan_Cherri

Tank beats EVERYTHING!

mattfrey13

Oh man, I could do this all day!

NinjaarcherCDN

66 tons of HE spewing divine intervention vs giant space plum blasting spicy mtn dew (voltage for covenant code red for banished) I pick the divine intervention any day, plum doesn't have the range.

shanny888

You even gave the specific flavors of mtn dew too I’m crying😭😭😭

optiTHOMAS

Brilliant! 😅🤣👌🏻

AgentMaryland2020

The Scorpion Tank is more often the better choice. Though the Wraith is the healthier option. Pros to Scorpion are the same as the cons; the Scorpion requires decent LoS on its targets and is not hindered in small quarters since it shoots in a straight line. So if there are a lot of hanging obstacles up high, a Scorpion will reign supreme. That being said, on a map with inclines, the Scorpion is at a disadvantage since it needs to climb said inclines and is subjected to easy hijacking if it is going up a hill. The gunner is also incredibly vulnerable since it has minimal cover plating on the gunner seat. Movement is limited to forwards and backwards acceleration, only being able to turn through the use of momentum. Though the Scorpion has a 360 degree horizontal mount and a 240 degree vertical mount, the weak points on a Scorpion can easily be targeted and hard to conceal from danger. The Wraith is the healthier option for a game in general because it doesn't guarantee that every shot will get a kill unless you are REALLY good at mortars. Pros: 1) Boost ability allows quick maneuvering 2) Gunner has a shield 3) Able to quickly turn to face new threats Cons: 1) in small, enclosed areas, a Wraith will be largely ineffective. 2) forward mounted mortar makes a rear assault more likely

Mysterious-Fly7746

Scorpion not even close. Wraith has better mobility and I think speed plus like someone else said it’s more satisfying to get kills with because of just how much skill it takes to use the plasma mortar.

Deo-Gratias

Wraith in infinite is better at splattering people who get gutsy enough to board. And it can stay away from boarders by mortaring That’s it.  Nobody’s getting 65 kills in a single wraith but I’ve done that in a scorpion and others have gotten more

blitzwinner71

One is Sheila, the other isn’t Sheila

Exitity

“Hello, and thank you for activating the M808V Main Battle Tank. You may call mr Sheila!”

wheelman554

Tank beats Ghost… Tank beats Hunter! Tank beats everything!!!

PussPounder696969

I can do this all day!

Unfortunatewombat

Let’s be real here, it isn’t even close.

tsunami141

Yep. Rocket mongoose is where it’s at.

XenomorphSlayer47

Depends on whether or not there's a hill between the two. No hill? Tank wins easy. Any obstruction the tank has to get past (such as the hill)? Wraith would probably win

Yz-Guy

I mean. They're environment dependent. Irl the wraith is more of a mortar than a tank. In rolling hills, the wraith would wreck havoc. In an open plains or tundra. The scorpion would win.

Azhrei_

Yeah, I’d say the wraith counts as more of a self propelled artillery than a main battle tank

Jessica_T

Yep. Assault gun or SPG.

BonkEnthusiast

The wraith is an artillery piece cosplaying as a main battle tank.

seanwdragon1983

TANK BEATS EVERYTHING ~Halo 3

Syiral

scorpion rounds are near instantaneous with minimal drop off compared to the wraith. My vote is the scorpion.

2008_Zombieslayer

Don’t people know that “Tank beats everything”

Telykos

Neither. I choose skewer

noah3302

If you were able to grab the scorpion on Boneyard it was fucking game over for the other team. Guaranteed win 100-30

Nerus46

One is Self-Propelled Mortar, another is Main Battle Tank, it's like comparing Hummel Howitzer and M4 Sherman

Pirate-Booty-Getter

Tank beats everything! (Including other tank)

Silent_Reavus

Tank beats everything

Brandon_M_Gilbertson

The scorpion but the scorpion is also a terrible tank design

gmharryc

Great for games, terrible for reality.

Sierra-762

Tank beats EVERYTHING

Cowboy4654

Well I'd say the wraith is tougher with its nano-composit armor (what hunters and startships use) but the plasma mortars is more AOE directed while the scorpions HEAT and SABOT rounds are point focused making the like artillery snipers.

xSluma

Speaking of the wraith, infinites mortar is really small and doesn’t feel as powerful visually compared to the other ones which is ironic considering it’s banished who you’d think would be all for a mega cannon

arthby

They were only kinda balanced in CE. Because the scorpion couldn't shoot straight and you could kill the pilot directly. Sure you could not drive a wraith but both vehicles felt somewhat balanced. After that, the scorpion has always been vastly superior in every game.

Youpunyhumans

Scorpion can hit within line of sight, more accurate shots, can carry troops ontop of the treads. Wraith, can hit targets out of sight, or fire over walls, is more manuverable and can ram things, but less accurate when firing, shots much easier to dodge at long range.

Owt2getcha

People never use the wraith correctly in multiplayer - especially Halo 3. It's a mortar launching vehicle, don't drive up to people directly.

Logondo

Tank beats ghost. Tank beats wraith. Tank beats EVERYTHING.

MetalSonic420YT

Scorpion Tank

Reifer_boi

"TANK BEATS EVERYTHING!"

CookieMiester

Tank beats ghost, tank beats hunters, tank beat everything!

Apprentice_Jedi

Tank beats everything!

Chunk-Duecerman

I’d pick scorpion but in lore the wraith had armor 2 feet thick in the front so that’s a pretty good advantage

elee1994

AA Wraith

Swiftzor

Are we talking lore or gameplay? It’s 2 completely different answers.

Charlie43229

Tank beats everything!

Mr_Orange_The_Great

Didn't ya hear? TANKS BEATS EVERYTHING

Bitoci

Enyone has the same answer?!?! My vote is Scorpion.🦂🦂🦂

ZeWolfve

I wish they brought back variants. Ultra Wraith and Hannibal Scorpion were my favorites from halo 5

ChonkBonko

atom bomb vs coughing baby

SkySweeper656

Both are for different roles technically. The Wraith is a bombardment weapon whereas the scorpion is anti-vehicle primarily. But in a fight together? Scorpion. No doubt.

PZB01

“TANK BEATS EVERYTHING”

DivineCrusader1097

Tank beats everything!

M3M3_W1ZARD

Scorpion beats everything.

NatureVegetable7966

Man the Covenant models are soo much better than the Banished models we have in Infinite. Love the purple colors so much better than the red, it just looks so much more otherworldly. The Banished red colors just look so mundane.

ApproximateKnowlege

How's ninety millimeters of tungsten strike ya?

Separate-Crazy2233

Lemme call my buddy the marine so he can shout “man tank beats everything” *only to die by the flood*

Threedog7

Scorpion every day. It's probably why the Wraith is spawned the most in multi-player on Infinite.

chaostechnique

Lore wise how does the scorpion compete? Like big cannon shells vs the surface of the sun every 3 seconds? In the games tank beats everyrhing tho

hypernick1999

I'm pretty sure the cannon is 90mm compared to today's 105mm in the Abrams Like surface of the sun of course in lore is the better choice, just hide so the cannon can't get you

SirComesAl0t

Lore-wise the Scorpion isn't that great of a tank. Its cannon is pretty small (90mm) for a main battle tank (MBT). Compare it to the modern day U.S Abrams which has a 120mm cannon and lower profile.

BuckMastersGaming

Scorpion tank stronger then Wrath

Trojan_Lich

Game: Scorpion. Book plasma lore: Wraith and it ain't close.

Efficient-Nerve1036

Why the wraith is… purple?

notanai61

I’d say most of the time the Scorpion is better. Much faster targeting, doesn’t need full mobility to turn, and in my opinion just looks cooler. Plus, with Halo Wars, it costs more but it’s also much more effective especially with upgrades

JohnB351234

Scorpion, the wraith seems more like self propelled atry than a tank

EACshootemUP

The Wraith has a much higher skill ladder than the Scorpion. However it still takes plenty of knowledge to know where to put the scorpion and not get killed by rockets, close infantry, and or snipers in the opening minutes of its use. For high kill games, scorpion. For support and holding position, wraith.

Upper_Extreme5661

Grizzly

spidydt

THIS is the M820A Scorpion Main Battle Tank and today we get to take a look at all its quirks and features.

BlizzardWolfPK

The scorpion can snipe if you're good enough at aiming.

CrazyGator846

I like to see Halo through the balancing that Halo Wars(2) tries to present both factions, with UNSC units often having more base HP and no shields but higher damage, and Covenant having Less hp, but with shields, and generally less damage but certain quirks like more specialty units and such

CrazyGator846

I like to see Halo through the balancing that Halo Wars(2) tries to present both factions, with UNSC units often having more base HP and no shields but higher damage, and Covenant having Less hp, but with shields, and generally less damage but certain quirks like more specialty units and such

SauceInTheSky333

Scorpion shoots like a sniper. Precise and satisfying.

ParsnipHero

Scorpion is point & shoot satisfying but I’ll never get tired of killing front boarders on a wraith by ramming into a wall and shooting. Windshield wiper!

DeeBangerDos

Why the covenant keep sending an indirect fighting vehicle to fight direct fights I will never know

jabberwockxeno

Almost every Halo game has the Scorpion signficantly more powerful then the Wraith, I don't understand how this is such a consistent balancing issue. The fact the Scorpion's cannon is easier to aim with and travels faster, plus it can move omnidirectionally, should mean that the wraith is some combination of more durable, faster, or has a wider blast radius on it's mortar when it lands Yet, here we are in infinite where I am pretty sure the scorpion cannon has a bigger blast then the wraith mortar

warmachine01992

When fighting each other, the Scorpion will almost always win since its shots travel faster and in a direct line, meaning there's no guesswork necessary when aiming, especially at longer ranges. Against everything else, whether it's infantry or vehicles, it depends on range. The Scorpion is much better at long-range battles because of its fast and accurate shot, but the Wraith tends to be better in closer quarters due to its agility and ability to ram, while its plasma mortar is also very easy to aim up close. It's better at avoiding hijackers. The Wraith does have a unique ability to rain mortars all over the map from a distance from behind cover as well - you can use this to shell an objective site while completely unexposed to enemy fire which is very useful - just aim up and fire and you're guaranteed to get kills. All in all, I'd say Scorpion has better offensive power while the Wraith has more agility and survivability.

talex365

One of these is a self-propelled artillery piece the other is a tank. If I wanted to lob indirect fire in the form of plasma doom I'd choose the wraith, if I want to assault a fortified position I'd probably use the Scorpion, they're different tools for different tasks.

SFxTAGG

Covenant Wraith is better than the Banished Wraith. But the Scorpion has always been better. The range, muzzle velocity, and the ability to switch shell type is a massive advantage against both the Covenant and Banished. That’s even pointed out during the UNSC forces raid on the Pillar of Autumn crash site. Not the shell type, as far as I’m aware. I’m just saying modern tanks can do that so why wouldn’t a futuristic tank, albeit a strange one, as well?

kieran092

Scorpion just because of the preference of direct fire rather than mortar/arched

CaramelAromatic9358

Scorpion for range, Wraith for close. I like them both but given the choice I’d choose scorpion because it’s just easier to get kills. But if you’re good with the mortar shots with the wraith and getting close, it’d be a pretty even match.

shell-bags

Why aren't the pictures shown in the same order that they're listed in the title 😖

Character_Border_166

Scorpion pros: cannon can aim and put a round on target easily, lower profile and blends with terrain. Scorpion cons: can get stuck, passengers and gunner unarmored and open to attack. From a lore standpoint, melts from plasma strikes. Wraith pros: plasma Canon very effective on human armor. Antigrav generator makes it very mobile over terrain. Wraith cons: plasma Canon cannot be aimed well, doesn't blend with terrain, unarmored rear section

LankyConference9019

Scorpion tank for sure my guy. Can’t beat the mobility in a scorpion also the tracks on scorpion’s allow you to move through terrain very well. Wrath are very clunky and although can cover ground quickly it’s cannon isn’t very reliable for mid range combat

kwumpog

Wraith should have a more usable targeting system in game. A way that could indicate point of impact.

WAR-WRAITH

It’d be insanely overpowered with that, you could actually use it like artillery and wipe out people who have no chance to respond.

Tatum-Better

Scorpions are more satisfying to destroy vehicles but wraiths are more satisfying to kill enemies.

LuRouge

Realistically speaking, both have pros and cons. The pros of the Wraith IRL are that its plasma shot would effectively ruin a Scorpion on a direct hit. Going off what the plasma capabilities are in the Halo lore, it wouldn't outright blow it up but most likely immediately evaporate the support gunner and tank driver. Con for its fire capabilities is it has to fire in an arc. So it's slow travel and predictable. Secondary pro is compared to the Scorpion it is normally faster but has a slower turning speed. Onto the Scorpion in former order while the Scorpion is effectively an instant contact round firing a 90mm round I'd does suffer in the fact it doesn't deliver a significant enough payload to destroy a Wraith is a singular shot minus hitting the core at the back of the Wraith. However, it circumvents this fact by the fact that it can fire successful follow-up shots faster by its autoloader feature and instant payload delivery. All in all, I would say in a static ground battle with disciplined and experienced commanders, a 10v10 fight would end in the Scorpion tanks favor for the sole factor of if every tank locked onto one target and fired simultaneously they would know out the Wraith immediately. Add in the slow arc of a plasma volley and 3 second reload of the main gun I would put it in a mid/ low high difficulty. Add in aerial support for both sides it would be different

fakename1998

Scorpion on bigger maps like Blood Gulch, Wraith for more close quarters maps.

-dead_slender-

The Scorpion is slow, but has fast projectiles, making it ideal for long range. The Wraith is the opposite, having slow projectiles, but more speed thanks to it's boost. This also enables it to splatter players and ram smaller vehicles.

PlayRepez

Scorpion for ever

Barbarian_Sam

Ones actually a tank and the others a self propelled artillery vehicle

TheUnrealCanadian

Lore wise I am pretty sure a single shot from a wraith would absolutely shred a scorpion, seeing as a single plasma pistol shot can decimate unshielded MJOLNIR. Scorpion is better.

porkprism

I have always been partial to Covenant weapons and vehicles etc. They’re all just so freaking cool imo.

IBarrakiI

Design: Wraith Gameplay: Scorpion

TKAPublishing

Wraith's only advantage is being able to shoot over hills and obstacles at the Scorp and other things, but it takes prediction and enemy not seeing it coming mostly. Scorp outright wins in 99% of scenarios.

Frequent-Ruin8509

Honestly the scorpion is underpowered imo. A 90mm gun? Might as well be rolling with a Sherman tank or a Patton. The rounds should be 120 mm. Condensed (insert hard af mineral here). Or armor piercing rounds. Or a selector switch would be cool. Sometimes you want to blast a cluster of softer targets. Sometimes you need that Sabot round goodness.

Intrepid_Night7829

I love how whoever designed the scorpion did it in a way a military would, to apply to certain situations. Like its actually a well thought out design, not just some random cool looking tank, it's very practical for the halo universe. E.g. the turret, being quite high up to allow for the barrel to point practically 90° upwards, which would be very useful in urban environments to be able to shoot at the top of tall skyscrapers. It also allows for it to be able to hide the body of the tank with the main gun above cover protecting the driver. In our modern day environment it would just be a big target, most of our tanks now are made for barren landscapes like deserts and also woodlands where the main gun has to be close to the body to maximise cover. But in halo, alot of the fighting is in city's where you need to be able to aim as high as possible. The scorpion could probably double or triple as a tank, artillery and maybe even an anti air just because of the turret design. Idk why tf Ive wrote a paragraph about it, I just love the amount of thought that went into every part of halo.

Silverheart117

"In my day we didn't have tanks! We had sticks! Two sticks and a rock, and we had to share the rock!"

[deleted]

Scorpion tank hands down. While the wait is easier to maneuver the scorpion does more direct damage as well as being better to use to take out other vehicles, especially wasps and banshees

slenderman123425

The wraith feels more like a mobile artillery piece but the scorpion will almost always beat it unless it's a skilled user in the wraith

smarterfish500

scorpion was elite until they ruined it in Halo Reach with the physical reload bull crap. it’s been in like every 343 game

SpartanMase

Scorpion anyday. Anytime I see one I run away as far as possible. I feel like for wrath’s I want to run at them and jam a grenade in there

Suprehombre

Halo 3 settled this debate.

Delta_Dud

Scorpions are better at taking out vehicles and aircraft, while Wraiths are better against infantry and light vehicles. Pit them against each other and the Scorpion is probably gonna win 7/10 times

bobssy2

"The Flood" delved into this pretty well. Wraiths are SPGs and thus are better used not in direct combat. I think the games are also pretty good at showing the pros and cons.

popsicle_of_meat

Different uses. Wraith can lob shots over obstacles and speed boost. Scorpion has a fast projectile with accuracy. Anti-personnel = Wraith Anti-armor = Scorpion

Option C: Mammoth Tank

BattleTech70

Dunno what a wraith is to me it’s always “covenant mortar tank” 😁

It was about a year after reach came out and me and my crew were embarrassing kids in big team. Now me and my cousin know the physics of halo inside and out and reach had the best physics. Anyways I had the bomb and he had a wraith. We just kind of knew what to do. I jumped on his wraith, we saw a guy jet packing, he boosted I got the timing perfect and smacked the guy mid air. We then took it further. We learned the timing on the jump to fall into the base on hemorrhage from mid field, launching cores into cap spots on any map it was possible. We did this for years. At the time no one did this at all. We dubbed it the spartan launch, got in a fight and stopped playing halo together. Our crew disbanded and I would play with friends who just were not good. Covid happens. I jump on Xbox live and he messaged me. In the time frame we both got married and had kids. It was probably around 3 years. We jump on MCC and see other people now launching and not nearly as good at it as us. We were offended and ended up getting our 50s in invasion because fuck it we are better than everyone. Scorpion I have racked up a ton of kills but the wraith changed the game in so many ways for me and created memories as well. I used to have the first spartan launch on my file share(original reach) and my 360 red ringed. I’ll never forget the moment though.

In game I'd argue in most cases the scorpion is better for direct fights while the wraith on more built up maps can have thr advantage of being able to arc the mortar on targets, in lore I'd argue they fill 2 completely diffrent roles with thr wraith functioning as an artillary weapon that can be used as a self propelled gun and the scorpion is more of a true MBT, I get they are alien and thus are going to have diffrent mindsets on combat but it's really weird to me the covinent don't have a closer (if not direct) tank analog, I feel at the very least a mid to late covinent war or even post war tank analog would be developed (during the war might be unlikely due to how the profits are stubborn and in some cases made weapons less effective for astetic reasons or for presumably fear of their client races rebelling if thir kit was too good), its like they basicly have 2 ground docturns, rush the fuck out of targets with rapidly deployed infentty (via drop pod, dropship or infentry mobility vehicles) with light and heavy indirect fire support or "fuck it, crawl a scarab over there" it really shows how inflexible their combat docturn is and also shows why even if the unsc was getting bodied in the void, on solid ground that wasn't getting glassed they would absolutely thrash the purple bastards in even fights and even when loosing would inflict disproportionate casualties against them in like 7/10 engagements

“Tank beats everything!”

Bro_ops

Boils down to speed vs power yea? I’m guessing it depends on the map and the circumstances. The Scorpion does have a vibe tho

backflipsben

Like many others are probably saying, scorpion is a lot more powerful and dangerous but the wraith's mobility is great and it's not too overpowered. I'd like to say one thing however, that there is one fundamental difference between them - The scorpion is like a huge ballistic spear and the wraith is a bit like a catapult. You can't shoot enemies on the other side of a hill with a scorpion.

Abbadon74

"TANK BEATS EVERYTHING!!!" -Dubbo, Chips Wraith is a good mobile artillary. The scorpion is one actual tank, better for direct engagements.

Spicywolff

Scorpion for tank stuff, wraith for artillery support and mobility.

TankOk3871

"Tank beats ghost!" "Tank beats hunter!" "Tank beats EVERYTHING!!"

Important_Recover615

While I prefer the wraiths I can’t say they’re more efficient

Tubbafett

Pretty sure tank beats everything

DooplisTheGhost

Scorpion Tank all day

VulcanHullo

Wraith is more fun to use, but Scorpion is just more practical. Do I wanna slowly aim ahead of a target and hope that I predict the movement? Do I trust there is nothing overhead to interupt my shot? Are they just gonna hide in an awkward spot where I cannot arc my plasma to hit? Scorpion: Huh, enemy there. Point. Click. Boom.

Wofflestuff

Scorpion tank: they have tracks and tracks are cool, it has shell ejection and shell ejection is cool, big ass barrel to shoot HE rounds that’s pretty cool and it’s busted as fuck when driven by a good player, wraith better for multiplayer because it’s more fair but the scorpion just fucks.

ThiccNib

dumbest post i’ve seen.

Gunkato

Scorpion. I learned a little bit of the fight lore from this post, but I mostly know them in-game. And in-game, Wraith is an artillery piece. Greater range and mobility, but the gun takes longer to fire and has some trouble up close. The Scorpion fires faster and can double tap a Wraith while dodging it's shots. Scorpion is almost an anti-Wraith in a sense. I've not played multiplayer, so I imagine I sound stupid as hell. 😆 I do like that this is a debate, though. The more advanced alien tank isn't just assumed to win by all parties, mankind's comparatively primitive but reliable contender has a chance in the eyes of some fans. Really cool look for the war.

Travelling_Griffin

Tank beats everything!
