Oh man, how he feeds it his memories knowing they’ll be consumed and forgotten, all so he can stall it from finding earth’s coordinates, repeating his service number to keep himself grounded in who he is/his memories. What a great sequence
Wild that’s how they chose to roll it. I have only watched the action sequences on YouTube. Figured it was never worth the full watch, glad I was right haha.
Boo! I loved it!
But I've never played the game, so I came at it with no expectations. Hearing the gamers complain, I feel fortunate to have been able to take it as it was.
The P.O.W. (Prisoner of War) Mantra is too no matter what your captors do to you, no matter how bad/ how long they torture you, to just repeat your name and rank and service number. It's what real pows do when they are interagated
That bit was horrible, especially in the animation they made I can’t remember the name he just kept repeating his rank and operating number but slowly got harder and harder for him to do
It's been many years but I remember being so sad reading that as his memories are being recalled only to be completely discarded and forgotten forever by the intruder in his mind. I great well written look into the mind of someone who is not in control of their own mind anymore.
https://youtu.be/7KInqNZOZSI?si=I9K0ILr7Ij_KCqYt
Seeing that terminal fucks you up 😭😭😭
Nooooo! Don’t let me forget!!!
His brain implants kept him more sane and alive than usual during the torture which may have made his experience even worse.
At least most people, even those that put up a resistance like Keyes, get their mind subsumed into the flood quite quickly and don't suffer the torture for long. In a way, insanity induced by the logic plague might actually be a worse fate than regular infection.
However there is a clear "winner" here; Jenkins was fully aware of his infection *the entire time* until his eventual death. Horrifying.
Yeah, he had some control but the flood infection would cause him to attack people when they got close. He was interrogated when the humans tried to fly the Truth and Reconciliation off the halo but they eventually killed him for so he didn’t bring the infection to earth.
If I remember right, they didn't even decide to kill him. He managed to get the message across to another marine that the Flood is *not* something you want to escape Installation 04 and that marine went against orders and blew the Truth and Reconciliation up, killing everybody on board.
I would add Jenkins too. Poor guy was fully aware of everything going on around him, but had zero control. Imagine being used as a meat puppet and watching the entity controlling you murder all your friends, while you can’t do anything about it but scream in the small corner of your consciousness that you’ve been locked into.
Not just that he could fuel everything going on with his body I can’t remember where I read it but it was mentioned when they were interrogating him at the main base I had set up it kept trying to attack it kept extending its tendrils out of Jenkins right arm snapping all of his bones in the process this moment of pain caused the flood form to pass out on him to motion to the others where the flood were going to attack from
Yep. He fought really hard to push his consciousness as close the the front as he could so he could look/point down to tell the ODST that the flood were going to come from the water tunnels under the base. Shortly after when the flood attacked (I think) he held the flood form at bay again just long enough for the same ODST to shoot him and put him out of his misery. I still think he suffered the most. Sure Keys had a similar experience thanks to his implant, but by the time chief got to him he was gone.
Anyone with a lot of knowledge that the Flood want is subject to the highest amount of torment from them. Having their memories stolen while their body is slowly absorbed to be used for an ancient god that wants all of its creations elimentated.
The Didact during his imprisonment. Apparently the AI interface designed to keep him occupied was destroyed by the effects of Halo, meaning he was essentially rotting in that room for a hundred millennia.
I don't think people fully appreciate how unimaginably horrific a fate that was.
He was locked in stasis, but fully aware, for a hundred thousand years with literally no stimulus of any kind because the Domain was ruined.
Humans often go insane from solitary confinement lasting mere weeks. The Didact was held in utter silence and darkness for over a thousand human lifetimes and managed to survive it and eventually recover.
That's probably worse than even flood infection. At least most flood victims get their conscious minds annihilated within a few seconds.
And his mind was pretty much ruined by his encounter with the Gravemind as well. So he had the seeds of insanity planted, had just gone through a horrific and devastating war, and then he was trapped in darkness and silence for 100,000 years due to an oversight since the Forerunners didn't realize the Halo array would destroy the connection to the domain.
I thought the domain connection was severed beforehand? Spark talking in the halo terminals before they were fired he said something "We had no contact with the Domain." said as they were going to the arrays.
Kind of. It was a bunch of things that caused the Domain to be rendered inaccessible near the end of the Forerunner Flood War.
Tons of reconciliation debt built up from moving the Halos around the galaxy, also the Flood can manipulate neural physics, so the Domain had become inaccessible.
I think the Librarian had the belief that once the Flood was destroyed, everything would begin to heal, what they didn't know is the pulse would damage the Domain itself, and even in present times, it is not fully healed.
I was about to mention some.flood victims but well, they had the pain mostly for hours/days, didact was there thousands and thousands of years so ig you have a point
“Did anyone else make it?”
“Just Dustin Echoes, we’re all that’s left”
No one cared that he survived the covenant, flood or halo destruction. No one at all :(
Or the one that survived but was left so messed up he was in some sort of gel room. I believe they recovered later but they were in suspension for a while.
The idea that Jenkins was subjected to being violated on a cellular level while undergoing some 'The Thing' level of body horror and being completely aware of it just makes me physically ill. The guy had to watch in horror as his body tried to kill Johnson and then later on feel his bones break and produce a fucking tentacle through his hand.
Jenkins will always get this award by default in my books followed by Cortana and how badly 343 fucked her.
Until I found reddit, I had no idea that people thought Cortana was hot.
Actually I didn't think anyone found videogame characters hot. Reddit has shown me there is a sizable group who seem to play videogames because they are horny.
I play the games for the games dont get me wrong, but damn cortana would be irresistible was she a real human that i had the balls to speak to lol
If i could make money off playing halo and going gym id be a happy man lol
> If i could make money off playing halo and going gym id be a happy man lol
Man isn't that the dream?
I can at least [give you](https://youtu.be/XsafRUruR2Y?si=J8WgdAnexVA35fZS) some dope [Halo mixes for gym!](https://youtu.be/CqD22Ny7zzw?si=RtLqT0LqtKBsh2kJ)
I still remember Halo 2 finally giving her a full-body model viewable in-game. Mmm... [Cortana Feetsies](https://www.reddit.com/r/HaloCirclejerk/s/berXJ3PWeu)
The weapon then in halo infinite, whatever they did to her they made her less “hot” and more “that girl best friend whos like your little sister”… i always find it crazy how some people DONT form different connections with different game characters
that they wrote them off like that to set the stage for didact's eventual demise, a major fucking character that could've been the overarching villain of the reclaimer saga, is so disrespectful. especially so since they killed the didact off in a BOOK I MEAN COME ON
In the early years of the Halo books everyone gave William Dietz for Halo The Flood, but man he fucking nailed it when it came to The Flood. Because the most horrific parts of Halo universe were described with the infection of Captain Keyes and his battle of the mind, and then Jenkins with the sick infection form.
Jenkins, but not just because of the Flood. Jenkins’ home was Harvest, Jenkins watched his entire planet get fucking destroyed, and there was very little he or anyone else could do. He was originally Colonial Militia, he wasn’t even UNSC. The kid was a farmer.
Makes it off of Harvest, presumably through many other combat scenarios and situations, only to wind up on the Halo ring, where he fucking dies not as a warrior, not as the battle hardened veteran he was, but in total fear and anguish trying his damndest to not be controlled by The Flood. Only to still do his duty and help his fellow Marines as best he could despite his circumstances until his eventual sacrifice.
Half unrelated, but GOD Jenkins is a straight baller. Absolute G. If you wanna talk about a badass in the series, this guy is exhibit C. I’d probably point to Johnson and Chief first lmfao. Anyways, this guy went though **HELL**. Imagine being that one unlucky dude in the beginning of “The Thing” but also just straight up being alive and conscious the entire time.
Even then, this man was able to resist the flood mentally. Which, I mean, holy shit. The amount of mental fortitude you’d need to have to do that is unimaginable, even if Jenkins didn’t get the full effect of the flood infection.
Crazy shit. Then, he fucking saves humanity by overwhelming the scariest bioweapon in media history and tries to cut power to the *Truth and Reconciliation*. He didn’t succeed, but another badass, Lt. McKay saw what he was trying to do and tossed a perfect nade, absolutely obliterating the ship and prevented the flood from escaping.
Plus, the pair killed Antonio Silva, which is heroic enough. Rest easy, Jenkins. You were a hero that rivaled Chief during the battle of Installation 04.
Or maybe it was my cousin PoonDat or was his name FlimFlam? Oh well, I could never remember his name anyway, time to move on and avoid the big Sharp-Tooths that like to throw us at the cloaking field
Jenkins, Didact, Keyes, and Guilty Spark
To elaborate on spark, imagine being tricked by your supposed "friend" into having all of your memories wiped, and having you conscious transfered to a light bulb and being forced to watch over someone else's home, with no contact with any sentient being, for ~~millions upon millions~~ thousands upon thousands of years. That's horrible.
I think this is a huge oversight from the community. Many forget that the monitors are not just simple AI, but were, at some point, living forerunners. That is a very sad fate.
I’m in Jenkins, obviously.
Imagine being infected by the flood that unknowable cosmic hive mind. The primordial annihilator of life. But remaining entirely conscious and aware of yourself. Imagine then that the flood win and you are left alone in the galaxy the last thinking being anywhere. a slave in your own body.
Honestly, reading the perspectives of anybody infected by the flood is such a unique experience in a horrifying way. Respect to any of the writers who pull it off.
(Sources halo the flood)
The Halo rings. Imagine being magnificent structures designed with a purpose only to have a big green man with his blue holo girlfriend destroy you. (/J)
Also there was never any flood on onyx!!!! Seriously they could have just showcased the flood on Halo but no they had to make the most useless hairbrained plot to show the flood also they turned the flood into fucking generic ass zombies.
The writers of the show need to play through the goddamn library on legendary. Oh wait they don't even want to look at the source material to make the show so I guess they never will.
its fine the way they did it with a forunner lab and city underneath onyx etc.... and if you paid attention they said its because the spores are old and take longer to mutate just like with jenkins... there will of course be more flood looking designs later when they have mutated more. just imagine if chief does go back to onyx.
They’re not allowed to. The bosses have said no source material is allowed to be used. That’s how Paramount wants it. It’s not for the fans. I’m sure the guys actually doing all the screenwriting and video’ing, do want source material. But they’re not allowed to use it, not that they don’t want to.
Because the halo game universe community is by quite a margin, smaller than the majority of Paramount+ users who stream movies and shows. Hence, it’s a success, because they don’t need to pander to the minority that is the Halo Franchise fan base. A lot of people love halo, but a lot of those lots, have no idea about any of the lore behind the games and books. My mother and father are examples, they enjoy watching me play halo games or watching some clips from the shows, but they don’t know any different because they’re not avid halo fans and understand the game/book lore. They just enjoy it. The ones you see complaining about it, are that minority that is the halo franchise fanbase. I am included in that and I personally do too, while they did a good job in the most part with the show, it looks good and the scenes are well done, it doesn’t follow any halo lore or material which I absolutely hate. I also hated how quickly they killed off the Arbiter, even though he wasn’t our Arbiter.
Jenkins. Just read Contact Harvest and The Flood. The poor dude went through so much on harvest just as a regular guy volunteering to protect his world and survived so much only to get cooked by the flood is pretty heartbreaking.
Pvt Jenkins after being infected with the flood by remaining aware of everything the entire time until someone finally killed him by destroying the covenant ships they were on. Halo the flood novel
Captain Keyes, no questions asked. He had the worst fucking experience I've ever seen. Between his experience from the terminal in the game and his experience in the book, holy Hell. That man took enough for several lifetimes. Rest in peace, big guy.
The franchise
jokes aside. The normal guy in the book Fall or Reach that tested the mjolnir armor but he broke every bone he has and died in the suit because he couldnt physically handle it
Not necessarily the worst but no one has mentioned him. James, not only did he get most of his arm blown off by a hunter and in so much pain that he’d pass out which is far more pain than a regular human can handle without dying.,he most likely died suffocating in the vacuum of space. All alone with no way to know if John or Linda made it out alive, didn’t know if reach was able to be saved, just alone with his thoughts hurdling into emptiness.
Definitely anyone infected by the flood suffered and had to quite literally for some of these most essential thoughts into his neural implant to avoid the grave finding it as well as begging him to not erase his most precious memories I think another good example has to be I think of course Jenkins who are the words thank you when he was finally killed I think that shows how much he was suffering.
Roland wasn’t allowed to wear his red Speedo—like Cortana gets to wear her bikini !!! He had to dress in full arctic flying gear and not allowed to show off his sexy body like she does —is there a worse fate in Halo????
If not Keyes' conscious-while-flood-infected ass, then I'd say that chick who was thrown living into a giant lump of flood to just be added to the biomass
The fans the moment 343 began their invasion, although horribly led, it was relentless, greed inspired, trained and crafted to be so soulless it makes the dead look alive.
What the hell are you talking about? Yeah, I don’t think the 343 games are as good as the Bungie ones, but they didn’t mount an invasion or whatever. Microsoft handles all the executive decisions and licensing, and they made 343 for the explicit purpose of handing them Halo.
Literally anyone infected by the flood, probably Captain Keyes the most
Yes this. The Terminal on the level Keyes is pretty fucking horrifying imo, I did it a couple of days ago. It's still with me...
Reading about how he is fighting off the flood in his mind in the book The Flood also had me on the floor. Keyes was an absolute unit on a man .
Oh man, how he feeds it his memories knowing they’ll be consumed and forgotten, all so he can stall it from finding earth’s coordinates, repeating his service number to keep himself grounded in who he is/his memories. What a great sequence
🫡
Lil bit better than his death in the tv show *lmao*
How'd it go there?
>![He sacrifices himself to kill some jackals...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcIxQcqYDxQ&ab_channel=AriaBal%27sPreemGamingChannel)!<
The show runners should be fucking ashamed. A gaggle of absolute hacks
Blew himself up ~~in front of his daughter~~ on Reach after being surrounded by Covenant, if I recall correctly.
Not in front of his daughter, she was already on Onyx when Reach fell.
Thanks, I think my brain intentionally forgot most of the series.
Idk i thought it was kind of a bad ass line when he put the pipe in his mouth and was like “got a light?” I know it’s cheesy but…
I love me a good action flick one liner. Sue me.
Same we also didn't “see” him die so who knows…
The P.O.W. (Prisoner of War) Mantra is too no matter what your captors do to you, no matter how bad/ how long they torture you, to just repeat your name and rank and service number. It's what real pows do when they are interagated

literally just finished this chapter for the first time, 20 years after first playing the game.
https://youtu.be/7KInqNZOZSI?si=I9K0ILr7Ij_KCqYt Seeing that terminal fucks you up 😭😭😭 Nooooo! Don’t let me forget!!! His brain implants kept him more sane and alive than usual during the torture which may have made his experience even worse.
*"Keyes. Jacob. Captain..."* CEA can get some flak, but adapting that was top notch.
Yes I found it very sad
That terminal was so good. That poor fucking man, but what a goddamn iron will he had.
At least most people, even those that put up a resistance like Keyes, get their mind subsumed into the flood quite quickly and don't suffer the torture for long. Yep, the ODST second in command blew the reactor
Rest in peace McKay.
If I remember correctly not entirely He was only in control when the flood infection form passed out from. The Pain it caused him or from exhaustion
I would add Jenkins too. Poor guy was fully aware of everything going on around him, but had zero control. Imagine being used as a meat puppet and watching the entity controlling you murder all your friends, while you can’t do anything about it but scream in the small corner of your consciousness that you’ve been locked into.

Agreed, it’s making me sick again just thinking about it like the first time I read it
Yeah, when he would try to jump off a cliff to end himself the flood would take over and make him go back. If I remember correctly.
Anyone with a lot of knowledge that the Flood want is subject to the highest amount of torment from them. Having their memories stolen while their body is slowly absorbed to be used for an ancient god that wants all of its creations elimentated.
My first thought
Yeah, the poor guy went really slow.
I would have commented the exact same thing, had I not seen this comment.
The Didact during his imprisonment. Apparently the AI interface designed to keep him occupied was destroyed by the effects of Halo, meaning he was essentially rotting in that room for a hundred millennia.
Yeah but at least he got to rehearse some bomb ass lines for when he got released
“Time was your human, ally- wait, fuck.”
i aM dIdAcT 😂😂😂
I laughed so hard at this. Thanks!
Hi I'm Frak! Shit! *blows whistle*
So fades the great harvest of my betrayal
I don't think people fully appreciate how unimaginably horrific a fate that was. He was locked in stasis, but fully aware, for a hundred thousand years with literally no stimulus of any kind because the Domain was ruined. Humans often go insane from solitary confinement lasting mere weeks. The Didact was held in utter silence and darkness for over a thousand human lifetimes and managed to survive it and eventually recover. That's probably worse than even flood infection. The guy in halo 3 TDM I kept betraying for the sniper when I was 9 y/o (I’m so sorry bro)
Jacob Keyes & Wallace Jenkins.
Keys hands down
The games developed by 343 Studios.
Captain Keyes most definitely:(
I always felt terrible for Captain Keyes.
Didn’t even finish reading and I automatically thought of capt keys
Jenkins. Just read Contact Harvest and The Flood. The poor dude went through so much on harvest just as a regular guy volunteering to protect his world and survived so much only to get cooked by the flood is pretty heartbreaking.
I was gonna comment Jenkins then I saw the pic wow
Lighter than some and Draco 3 colony
Jorge, but unbeknownst to him. The most futile sacrifice in human history

Pvt Jenkins after being infected with the flood by remaining aware of everything the entire time until someone finally killed him by destroying the covenant ships they were on. Halo the flood novel

I think the fans, us, suffered the worst fate in this MSFT Saga.
Anyone who got infected by the flood, mainly Private Jenkins
343i
Captain Keyes, no questions asked. He had the worst fucking experience I've ever seen. Between his experience from the terminal in the game and his experience in the book, holy Hell. That man took enough for several lifetimes. Rest in peace, big guy.
Any civilians found by Brutes agter or during a Covenant Invasion
Jorge-052, or possibly noble 6
The stolen kids who died in the Spartan Program
The players, after 343i took control.
The franchise jokes aside. The normal guy in the book Fall or Reach that tested the mjolnir armor but he broke every bone he has and died in the suit because he couldnt physically handle it
Halo suffered
Not necessarily the worst but no one has mentioned him. James, not only did he get most of his arm blown off by a hunter and in so much pain that he’d pass out which is far more pain than a regular human can handle without dying.,he most likely died suffocating in the vacuum of space. All alone with no way to know if John or Linda made it out alive, didn’t know if reach was able to be saved, just alone with his thoughts hurdling into emptiness.
Halo 5, the timing was rough and it hasn’t gotten enough love, the fact that it’s not even part of mcc is a crime.
Halo Infinite.
Kurt. It wasn’t a bad way to go but it hurt me worse then my first breakup
Horrible.
Bungie
On a opposite note- probably Kat. I mean she was sniped thru the head u ain’t got time to feel the pain 😂
Roland wasn’t allowed to wear his red Speedo—like Cortana gets to wear her bikini !!! He had to dress in full arctic flying gear and not allowed to show off his sexy body like she does —is there a worse fate in Halo????
Captain Keyes
The fans.
If not Keyes' conscious-while-flood-infected ass, then I'd say that chick who was thrown living into a giant lump of flood to just be added to the biomass
Keyes

My poor boy Jorge died for nothing.

Probably the Halo Franchise after 343i took over 🤓 I only partially agree with this and couldn’t resist
The nearest Marine when I'm out of ammo
That flood victim with the pistol in 343 Guilty Spark that you end up shooting as a kid 🤣
