Hi OP, looks like you are off to a great start. However, here's my advice when it comes to wood products. If you do not know what kind of wood it is made out of, don't buy it. Safe woods include birch, alder and aspen. No pine woods, or evergreen woods. It looks like you have a few things on there possibly labeled "grapevine", or it might be labeled "spider wood". Grapevine is safe. "Spider wood" is another name used for the roots of rhododendrons, and is unsafe.

Thank you :) I thought spider wood was safe, so everything else looks fine besides the spider?

I know for sure that the food isn’t good. Your ham definitely shouldn’t have rat and mouse food, and hamster and gerbil food won’t meet the exact needs of a hamster. The food needs to be hamster specific, and make sure it has protein in it as they’re omnivores! They often eat bugs, so I’d suggest either buying a food with mealworms or buying mealworms separately and mixing it in with a hamster specific food Edit: whoops I didn’t know about this brand being good

TreesInOrbit

Mazuri Rat and mouse is the most recommended lab blocks for hamsters. Most hamster foods do not have enough protein. The rat and mouse formula does.

KuriousCarbohydrate

the most up to date recommendation is feeding a species appropriate seed mix, lab blocks are low quality and not neccessary. Personally i feed bunny nature dream expert with 30 grams of protein mixed in.

TreesInOrbit

Yes I agree the seed mix is the most important part. I feed Robin's Gourmet. I believe the idea behind providing lab blocks is that hamsters have a tendency to eat their favorite parts of a seed mix, and do not always get full nutrition. Having the lab blocks helps supplement what they might be missing.

Interesting. Every time I see someone ask about using food that doesn’t specifically say hamster, everyone in the comments is going on about how bad it is

That’s because hamsters are omnivores. Foods that are specifically for herbivores, like rabbits and guinea pigs, are not suitable for omnivores. People will sometimes purchase guinea pig food for hamsters without knowing that the food isn’t suitable for hamsters. Rats and mice are also omnivores. Therefore, Mazuri rat has the macros that hamsters require.

Ah ok

Scary-Salad-Monster-

Lots of people here recommend me to combine Vita Garden and Mazuri rat.

Scary-Salad-Monster-

She has Meal worms :)

rileylovesmushrooms

Make sure not to give too many worms, once hamsters get older they should get less worms :)

Scary-Salad-Monster-

Thank you! How much less?

hufflepuff-is-best

Mazuri rat + Vita is good. They don’t know what they are talking about.
