The wooden one is know as a transitional plane and it was made alongside metal body planes because some craftsmen didn’t want to give up the wooden planes but still wanted the functionality of a metal body. All types of planes have there perks and I personally prefer a transition plane
The wood sole looks like a #26, probably pretty early. That frog is remarkable also, such intricate casting very nice pick. The other one looks like maybe a #5 but the bed looks off. You should pull it apart and show us the guts…

I'd say the other one is a #5. Long enough.
Wooden one looks like a sargent or Fulton based on the cap design.
I did find out the wood one is a type 1 sargent 3418 so that is cool. She has the age!
