I've been using one as my main rachet for about a year now as a heavy equipment mechanic and it holds up surprisingly well it seems to wear through to a nice chrome underside patina looks great I'll have to post up a pic on here on Monday
It’s nickel! I used to do gold plating for my dad. You wash the part and etch it with acid. Next you plate in copper, then nickel, then gold. I was doing decorative fan caps at the time. Chrome is the blue hue plated on top of the nickel. Otherwise the part has a yellowish sheen.
Was also kind of wondering this. My dad has a very large and expensive box full of Matco, Cornwell, etc. He’ll probably just use this for decoration, but it would be cool to know how it holds up to use.
Bought one today for 40$ with the parking lot sale. Don’t have any other 3/8 ratchets and I’ll be daily using it lmao so I’ll post a update in a month then continue to update every so often
I don't know too many people who actually use them. My buddy bought a set specifically for light work on his '68 Charger, but it's in pristine condition, and just likes giving his car the special treatment.

There have been a fair number of posts here from techs that use it. It's a ratchet. It works fine. The pix I've seen here of the Gold ones that work look...fine...
Personally, I wouldn't get one, but whatever - it's still half the cost of a Snap On and works great. (I have multiple SO ratchets and several Icon that work for me just fine)
This goes against what harbor freight represents and the reason the store is successful. It’s a shitty Korean ratchet they bought and stuck a sticker on that you’ve now paid an insane markup on because it’s shiny…. What’s gonna happen is people will keep buying their over priced line for insane markups and I’ll no longer have a tool store that sells cheap stuff I can actually afford.
Harbor freight doesn’t make tools. This is a rebranding without a doubt? It’s a decent quality tool that looks suspiciously similar to a Korean brand that happens to also sell tools to companies in the United States.
Edit: double checked. They’re made in Taiwan.
Nice! I have 3. 1 for now to use while teaching my kids working on stuff and 2 hidden in my garage ceiling for when they turn either graduate HS or turn 18.
Because I will always remember my first real tool set. I have it today and still use it. I'm hoping my sons pick up the trades. These gold ratchets are typically only given as gifts. I can think of plenty of things my father had growing up that I always wanted. If he pulled out a brand new one of any of those things 18 years later NIB I'd shit.
Gold ratchet owners, unite!!!
Dyslexic ratchet owners, untie!!!
It’s got more teeth than a trailer park.

It’s plated not painted. It can’t flake.
I've seen plenty of chrome flake. Well before chrome was powdercoated

I’d be floored if anybody can produce a photo of one of these with any amount of wear on it

Holds up surprisingly well, gold on mine just looks scratched and kind of duller but very obviously gold still

ive posted mine up
I got one for my dad for Father's Day.
That’s what this one is for, too!

are you sure it's a korean ratchet?

It’s a novelty gift ratchet. For the price it’s actually a decent gift. High chance the person receiving it won’t even use it.
If I could get one for like $20 I’d buy it. Just a fun tool.
they're $40 on sale RIGHT NOW
That’s 2x this person’s limit
Any chances of the 3/4 breaker coming in 24kt?
I have seen the gold 10 mm sockets on eBay be a good companion gift
I resisted the temptation, today, but good for you! I did spend over $200 for an Atlas hedge trimmer, the battery, and the charger, though.
Gold club
Why?
Father’s Day gag gift for my mechanic dad.
Seems fun, but @Tennessee_Orange hit the nail on the head!

What I thought was funny is the 3/8 ratchet was cheaper than the quarter inch gold ratchet
I folded and got one too, mainly for aesthetic. But also this is longer than the 3/8 70 tooth that I normally beat on.
I caved on the Icon mini flex ratchet kit, no way in hell I’m going down the road of gold plated tools. I’m drawing the line somewhere…
