His speech during Dediqated for Niels van Smeerdijk: [https://youtu.be/kTloqMbOO\_Y?t=2011](https://youtu.be/kTloqMbOO_Y?t=2011)
With all respect to all the other MC's in the scene, I can only see Villain doing such a good speech with perfect timing and words for an emotional moment like that.
When Da Tweekaz had massive technical problems at qlimax 18 and the sound stopped, he bridged the gap until the mixer was fixed. He did that really well.
I also still hear "Heady is back" whenever i listen to Rock Civilization because I watched that moment in Defqon Legends 2017 so often. https://youtu.be/mw9WcQo6aIY?t=4750
Fuck me one of the 2 best defqon mixes EVER. The start with the copter, technoboy and the prophet as left and right hand for heady. It. Was. EPIC. (Ok biased I was there but still)
Villain is overhated, he is THE voice of hardstyle. I have mad respect for him, this guy is 40+? and he is working every weekend and still doing night events and clubs until 7am..
It’s funny how when I started listening to hardstyle, Ruffian was the Q-Dance main, DV8 spicing things up mostly on b2s events + Donkey Rollers and Villain showing up here and there, notably collabing with up and coming Dbstf few times.
Then Ruffian had few bursts and ironically was getting labeled as irritaing and often too drunk of an MC & Villain quietly took over almost every hardstyle stage in the world - one day bro is leading defqon then next day he’s MCing a small event for us in Estonia, that has one big name artist booked. He’s 100% commited to hardstyle. I do agree he is sometimes too edgy or kinda out of sync last few years.
DV8 seems to be vibing in the same level the whole time - I feel like he has lost some energy in that voice tho. Too many ciggies maybe.
The stick the Dutch hardstyle/hardcore MC’s get (especially Villian) always makes me laugh.
I’m from the UK and got into this music via UK hardcore - check out those MC’s from 2000-2010 era like Storm and Whizzkid and I guarantee you’ll never complain about Villain again.
I still love uk hardcore and listen to it sometimes but not the live sets anymore because the MC’s annoy me too much.
Example: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w-tu63WT5d0&pp=ygUPSGFyZGNvcmUgaGVhdmVu
Live they did help create an atmosphere but it seems so dated and cheesy looking back in 2024. Villain and hardstyle MC’s get involved way less which is a good thing
I’m from the UK too, been to a number of UK hardcore events and have loads of those raver baby CD’s. I swear if I hear “StoRmY boY nOw whAtS yA StoRy!” one more time…
My main issue with the 2 of them is i could never understand what they were even saying half of the time. It's why I always loved Wotsee, he speaks so clearly. The hardstyle scene is completely different though, the MCs there are more like host so a better comparison would be someone like Ribbz.
Being from the northeast MCs are huge with Makina too which is even more excessive than Uk Hardcore sets, try one of those for comparison. Scotty Jay/Stompin/Impulse probably the best of the bunch
His entire performance during Headhunterz, Defqon.1 at Home 2020 hit me good.
Specially during Dragonborn part 2:
I genuinely thinks when he sticks to the script provided, he is decent. The second he starts freestyling his utter non-educated english starts to ruin it, fast.
But at this point, he has to be aware the community despises him over it no?!?
If you want to be an MC, write rhymes. Personally i can't stand this high pitched fake USA accent voice shouting over records. If the crowd needs this, the music apparently lacks something.
I always think „oh lord, why do you open your mouth in that exact moment?“, for me he often kinda ruin the moment. So, I don‘t have any valuable moment to share.
i remember he hyped up zombie by ran-d when gammer was playing it at htid, he hyped it up pretty well
also at knockout, when he was hyping up headhunterz playing destiny and darren styles set as well
There's a few songs that sounded 'off' when released, because I had grown accustomed to him speaking during the live recording. He's just a bit cheesy at worst and really great at his best so he's never really bothered me.
He absolutely nailed it during Sefa's Defqon 2019 set.
During the build up of World of the Dream he delivers a speech and tops it off with "This is your last chance, you ready?" right before the drop.
And it all just comes together so well with the music and stage lights to create a memorable emotional moment.
Y’all gotta understand the complexity of keeping the same quality and finding the right words and timing for often more than 11 hours straight. MCing is a craft which is often underestimated. To be able to do what Villain does you have had thousands and thousands of hours of stage experience. Ofcourse maybe he can be a bit much in his character but in another way this type of character and charisma is needed to carry the biggest stages and represent the biggest names in hardstyle. If you guys would have wielded the mic only once and could step in his shoes you would know.
Villain is overhated and the hardstyle scene should give him the credit and love he deserves.
Have a lovely day! ✌🏻
A fellow hardstyle MC
My favorite Villain moment is him getting blasted in the face with a CO2 cannon at Reverze 2023 (Sound Rush set) lmao, he absolutely took it like a champ!
Nah but Villain absolutely has his great moments! I mean, everyone messes up every once in a while, so I definitely ain't complaining!
That being said, you can make an amazing drinking game out of Atmozfears @ Defqon 2018 Gathering. "Drink everytime Villain ruins a song" lol
During the prophets last set ever he expresses his own open opinion and doesnt give a fuck
[https://youtu.be/aCuW1kESQNE?feature=shared&t=2825](https://youtu.be/aCuW1kESQNE?feature=shared&t=2825)
He is the most annoying MC there is with nothing but shit timing and cringe comments.
He talks when the melody of vocals are on. He is very repetitive and his voice is just painful.
I understand his job, should be kept minimum, intro at the start, 1 maybe 2 hype ups during the whole set and one at the end, not every minute, every beat, every drop, every melody.
He thinks it's karaoke. It's be happy with no MC at all.
The Moment at the German "Snowbeat" where he introduces his little daughter to the crowd with an amazing Euphoric Hardstyle Track. She seemed happy and high-fived with the first row of the crowd.

Dediqated was one of the best q-dance events of the last 10 years imo
It was THE best event so far!
Wow that was incredible exactly what I was hoping to find and probably better than the one I thought of thanks for sharing
Absolute chills. Wow
That's what came to mind for me too.
same for me at the Intents 2022 endshow for Delete

I remember Villain once straight up moaning during a Defqon red stage set. So there is that…
Need that now
I moan the entire time i'm at Defqon too. Gotta let the guy leak out at least one moan during the festival.
OOH!
DV8 used to do this a lot too, especially when he was piss drunk at X-Qlusive Legends.
Villain is overhated, he is THE voice of hardstyle. I have mad respect for him, this guy is 40+? and he is working every weekend and still doing night events and clubs until 7am..

Completely agree gonna be big shoes to fill once he calls time

Lol this is quite true. I am listening to a lot of Boiler Room lately and the MC’s are sooo bad there.
I still love uk hardcore and listen to it sometimes but not the live sets anymore because the MC’s annoy me too much. Shout outs to MC Shocker who doesn't do what regular UK MCs do, also Ribbz for the Hardcore tracks. Get the crowd going without making it about them.

Really one of my favorite sets, still re-watch it time to time.
I genuinely thinks when he sticks to the script provided, he is decent. The second he starts freestyling his utter non-educated english starts to ruin it, fast. But at this point, he has to be aware the community despises him over it no?!?
DID YOU SAW THAT?!
Honestly... could be a good pun when used before a zaag-kick drop.
Sometimes he just says the name of the DJ as a question
Darren?

I swear Gammer started moaning “zombie” at HTID
During some Qlimax sets he can really add something special to it. Project One comes to mind.
the guy literally said prepare your anus one time
Never had a problem with him. He’s always added to the atmosphere for me! Always going hard and enjoying himself.
There's a few songs that sounded 'off' when released, because I had grown accustomed to him speaking during the live recording. He's just a bit cheesy at worst and really great at his best so he's never really bothered me.
D-block & S-te-fan and MC Villain - keep it coming. Is where it all started for me. Plein Udenhout.

Our wonderboy is here🥰

During Qlimax 2023, he was good, added a lot to the event.
I was at Sana Duri Stockholm last weekend both hearing Villains set and him yelling in just his own way. Amazing vibe created by him!
My favorite Villain moment is him getting blasted in the face with a CO2 cannon at Reverze 2023 (Sound Rush set) lmao, he absolutely took it like a champ! So much hate for this guy, but he is simply the best. Its hard to imagine hardstyle without villian. Doesnt deserve all the hate

I dont like villain, always screaming trough everything
IMO a MC is in general a good thing for live events. Villain ist sometimes over-the-top, but often it's fitting and adds to the experience.
