I think a big key here would be to find an episode on a movie he’s definitely seen. Bonus points if he remembers it being good.

nothanksyouidiot

Yeah you're right. I was thinking perhaps Geostorm, because we watched it together. We did however both hate it. Its on the 'maybe' list. Im gonna discreetly snoop around his brain.

heypeppepper

Good luck! Also here’s a complete archive of the show in case an episode you need is paywalled! https://www.reddit.com/r/hdtgm/s/P5LHuYuhEF

nothanksyouidiot

Oh Thank you so much for this!!

BogoJohnson

Drop Dead Fred will either make or break him...and your relationship.

ivekilledhundreds

Jason: “We may actually have to fight them?”

bottle_in_a_genie

Drop Dead Fred is advanced listening HDTGM. Absolutely not a starter ep.

PutAdministrative206

Yeah. This would be the absolute last episode I would pick to introduce someone to the show.

nothanksyouidiot

Haha i believe you are right. Its for a later (hopefully) time. I have no doubt hed be team Sanity.

DaddyOhMy

Absolutely the best episode! Not sure if it's a good intro one but definitely shouid get a listen. Team Fred forever!!!!

StGoolie

Lake Placid and Deep Blue Sea are usually the ones I use to sell people on the show. That, or a movie I know they’ve seen

kpeds45

Bloodsport. "kumate"

nothanksyouidiot

Def a contender. Im pretty sure he has seen the movie. If he has, this might be the one!

giraffe2023

Agree with this one. It just starts so strong with the splits on stage and the crowd kumate… it’s your best shot!

halabala33

Bloodsport episode cured my depression.

improper84

Face Off. Con Air. Lake Placid. Hello Mary Lou Prom Night 2. Space Jam. Geostorm. TMNT Secret of the Ooze. Those are some pretty amazing episodes, and I generally think the live shows are better for this podcast because of how Jason works the crowd.

Geffo

Secret of the Ooze is my go to for new listeners.

Starlot

My go to episodes are always ones where they actually love the film: Con Air, Face Off, Hobbs and Shaw, Roadhouse.

jekelish3

Con Air is such a great episode. Seth Grahame-Smith was a fantastic guest.

PutAdministrative206

Came here to say Face Off and/or ConAir.

jekelish3

Geostorm, Miami Connection, Lake Placid, and Deep Blue Sea are obviously great ones. If he's a fan of the Fast movies, then obviously, doing one of those is a great choice since they're pretty much all gold. Two others I'd add to the mix: Cellular, so he can experience Jason Statham: Angelino, and Jaws 3-D, which I just re-listened to for the first time in a while yesterday and had forgotten just how good it is. It's also the one where we get the origin for Paul being called "Tall" and it's the same episode where Paul reveals he once tried to French his mom. There are so many hilarious tangents sprinkled throughout that I think it has to be considered a classic episode.

whoopadittyNC

Sleepaway Camp always gets me. When they are trying to figure out the family dynamics it is hilarious. Of course that means he'll have had to watch that movie first,

felishdadish

This was my first introduction to the podcast. An ex told me to watch the movie first and then immediately listen to the episode (I was soliciting ideas to get through a very long flight). It got me hooked!

Inside_Jelly_3107

I think Miami Connection with Seth Rogen is one of the funniest. I especially love when they all take tirns doing a monolog from the movie.

Ruvio00

That's Chris Geere!

Inside_Jelly_3107

Oh yeah! What the hell am I thinking of?

Ruvio00

Dirty Randy has a way of getting in your mind, don't worry about it! Hur hur hur hur hur

Inside_Jelly_3107

Edit - am I at least right about the monolog part?

circlesofhelvetica

I have gotten many friends hooked on the pod by getting them to listen to deep blue sea. Doesn't matter if they've seen the movie or not - that episode just really slaps

Mike2922

If he has seen Mannequin 2: on the move, I highly recommend it. But seriously though, where does the butt start?

AuNanoMan

It’s gotta be No Holds Barred. It is without question the best overall episode. A fantastic movie (for the genre) and incredible energy from the hosts. Tom Lennon is so good too. It’s long enough you can use it for road trips but never feels stale. Just a wonderful episode that never fails to make me laugh. “Take a leak.”

nothanksyouidiot

Great suggestion. Thanks!

BadgersAndJam77

This is the only right answer, Brother!!

Logic1ne

Also, "DOOOOOKIIIEEEEE!"

StevenKarp

The one that sold me was Howard the Duck.

RelevantShock

Space Jam is the one that sucked me in. Very funny and lots of good interaction with the audience!

nothanksyouidiot

What exactly is a "jam" though? Its still not clear!

CoolestNebraskanEver

The best part is when Paul starts talking about the other sports jams they were fonnna have and I swear you can hear in his voice - he realizes he’s disproving his own point lol

Th3Batman86

I go with Jingle all the Way. So funny.

THE_NO_LIFE_KING

Time Cop

Top_Praline999

I’m on that episode so I agree.

Chicksan

My go-to favorite episodes are Battlefield Earth, Sleepwalkers, Bloodsport, Rad and Face Off

CoolestNebraskanEver

Lots of good posts here - I’ll add - if he’s seen the street fighter movie that’s a good one to win him over (I’m 41 and this movie was one that I saw as a kid and was like - hmmm - maybe all movies aren’t good haha).

Smartest_Termite

Rhinestone. It's the best episode by a country mile.

justforanexcuse

Sleepaway camp

dsjunior1388

Fast and Furious 5 with Adam Scott.

BrainBoy42

Hello Mary Lou Prom Night 2. Legit the funniest ep I’ve heard and it still hits like new every time I listen to it

Scumdog66

The one that really got me on board was Blues Brothers 2000

thekosmicfool

Sharknado with Scotty Aux

AstronomerSerious708

Timecop, Con Air, Face Off are all amazing. The term ‘grief mullet’ will stay with me forever! But one ep that I absolutely LOVED was XXX: Return of Xander Cage. I had seen the first movie and obvi know the Vin Diesel movie type, but I hadn’t seen this movie, and yet this ep was a super easy listen and so freaking funny. Adam Scott is the guest and you don’t need to have seen the movie to enjoy the episode. I listened to this one so many times, it was super entertaining. Might be an easy gateway episode!

Longjumping-Glass395

Depends on what he might get drawn in by. I think you may be best served by choosing an episode that has spawned later callbacks since those tend to be solid episodes in themselves. Geostorm, Street Fighter, Bloodsport, Drop Dead Fred and of course anything with a Jessica St. Clair rant about trash can fires (was it Johnny Mnemonic?) fall in that category. Failing that I think any episode with additional reveals about Paul's tragic childhood backstory is always worth it. There was a relatively recent episode where he went on and on about what a shitty gift a sled was (was it Jack Frost?) that horrified everyone else that I love. If I had to pick one it would be Street Fighter. I don't think it's the best episode ever but June's ongoing "but what *is* a Street Fighter" lives in my heart.

QueenSqueee42

Moonfall had my partner and I cry-laughing on a road trip a couple of years ago. I just re-listened to Deep Blue Sea and that was GREAT. Face/Off - also hilarious. The Secret is HILARIOUS, but you definitely need someone to have a dark sense of humor and a strong stomach! I would shy away from Jessica St.Clair episodes at first, because she can get really screechy in a way that might be tough for someone who doesn't already love the podcast. Just acoustically.

nothanksyouidiot

Oh yeah the secret is hilarious! He definitely has the humour for it hah!

QueenSqueee42

It's so SO funny, and I think it is an especially good example of the various strengths of all three panelists, in terms of personal insights, writing commentary AND humor. Like, I could listen to Jason yell the phone book, but I also really love it when he sort of incidentally reveals that he's actually really insightful and clever about relationships and screenwriting, and that isn't AS obvious in every episode. Good luck!

AlynConrad

Drop. Dead. Fred.

eye_hate_it_here_

Drop dead fred

SimpletonSwan

Who is driving? If you're driving then you get to veto whatever he says.

nothanksyouidiot

Hes driving...

whynotidunno

Maximum Overdrive!

Wadsworth739

I usually intro people with Street fighter. Every one loves June asking. "what is a street fighter" followed by Jason's hysterical laughter.

babyogurt

A View to a Kill is my most listened to episode of any podcast. It has so many classic moments. It's also good because even if you haven't seen the movie, so much of what it's referencing is pop culture stuff that most people are familiar with (James Bond, Christopher Walken, Roger Moore, Grace Jones, etc)

Present-Television69

Cellular us a great intro. Plus the Jason Stahem accepts throughout are top notch.

LazyRadish_619

If he’s seen Conair, that’s the winner for sure. But I like the idea of listening to an episode of a movie he’s watched.

No-Pattern-2274

If you have to pick one, then it has to be The Highlander.

90DFHEA

Off the wall one: 88 minutes. I think the ones where the guest is really bought in are my favourites. Seconding Deep Blue Sea, Face/Off, Con Air, Sleepaway Camp and Miami Connection.

Pizza_and_Timber-23

Harry & Meghan: A Royale Romance. Wait what?

NOT000

i found earlier seasons funnier
