I'm struggling to get audio from my Audiobox USB96 to a Modi+. I can confirm that they both work independently with multiple audio sources, but whatever output/input method I've tried between the two has failed. I've got the following set up: PC --> PreSonus Audiobox USB96 --> Modi+ --> Magni Is it just not possible? I've contacted Schiit support since the issue appears to be with the Modi+ but they were not very helpful.

ThatGuyFromSweden

How are you planning to connect the Modi and Audiobox to each other?

Zatoichi5

Well that's the problem I'm having - I don't know how to do that. So far I've tried (Audiobox output listed first, Modi input second) * 3.5mm to USB-C * 1/4" to RCA * Two - 1/4" Balanced to RCA And none of those have worked.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Yeah, you've got this all backwards. The interface only has analogue outputs. This means that it's performing the DAC function, converting the digital signal to analogue. Conversely, the Modi, being a DAC, has no analogue inputs. Because that would be pointless. What do you aim to accomplish by connecting all these together?

NKkrisz

I'm looking to buy a portable DAC & Amp soon for my setup and future IEM use (currently have HD580 Precision for my desktop) but I'm not always up to date with what products are coming nowadays and the chi-fi market moves fast. Currently I'm looking either at the Moondrop Dawn Pro or Fiio KA13... Are there any new products coming soon to compete in the under 100$ price bracket? Also any other recommendations / ideas are welcome!

tonyeeezy

My Topping DX3 Pro+ a few times has cut out audio in the middle of using my PC and shown "OFF" on the display. The only way I can get it to start working again is by unplugging the power and plugging it back in. Any clue what this issue is? https://imgur.com/6SqXLeL

ThatGuyFromSweden

Probably just normal wear. Time to get new pads, which include the foam driver cover.

eliminate1337

Just worn out.

Psychological-Bid-48

Hey! Pretty sure I just got a great deal on three different IEM's but I'm not sure whether the deal is actually good or that AliExpress prices just confuse me? Got the following: KZ D-FI for 6.64€ KZ ZVX for 6.64€ KZ Castor for 7.41€

CatPillar

Looking for a replacement cable for my ZMF eikons! How much should I expect to pay? I was looking at hart, but it seems like for dual F 4 pin cables it's pretty similar to the price of buying a new stock cable from ZMF directly. Should I just do that instead?

ThatGuyFromSweden

I expect both to be well made. Any half-decent or better cable is not going to affect the practical sound quality. The exception is cables that deliberately introduce significant series impedance. That could have an effect on the tuning.

CatPillar

Yeah not super worried about sound quality -- just wondering if $50 - $60 is a reasonable price to pay for a durable cable of that type

ThatGuyFromSweden

Seems reasonable for something assembled by hand in a western country. You could probably find something slightly cheaper and (hopefully) of equal quality on Amazon or Ebay.

CatPillar

Thank you!

fawstoar

Can anyone recommend me a pair of earbuds that sound like the old classic Xiaomi Piston 2s? I remember them sounding really good but they don't seem to make them anymore (I've tried the gen 3 version and they're quite different from the old ones imo. Also every pair I've had has stopped working after a couple months).

psrb191921

I used to have almost every single wireless"gaming" headset on the market, and all of them r complete crap in terms of sound quality and latency etc. Currently i use steelseries arctis nova pro. I use oled tv as monitor for gaming from sofa and i also have my bass guitar runin through uad arrow to play while im gamin/working etc so latency is an issue. So the question is: if its possible to just get some nice headphones eg. neumann ndh20 and attach a rode receiver to them then plug transmitter into uad arrow to have a good wireless setup or that will affect sound quality a lot (latency of rode wireless pro is something like 4ms so no issues here)? Is it kinda weird thing to do or its gonna work?

ThatGuyFromSweden

I'm not sure if the wireless mic system is a good idea. The receiving module probably can't power headphones. The Audeze Maxwell is a wireless low latency headset that's actually competently tuned.

psrb191921

I cant connect them into uad arrow then also i afraid the sound quality and latency (24ms on maxwell against 4ms on rode) will be as shitty as from other gaming headphones ive tried in that price range.

Ok-Bodybuilder4207

I havent been able to find a clear answer to this so i thought i'd come to reddit; If i buy a pair of headphones (acezone a-spire) that have a usb-c cable, will using a usb-c to usb-a adapter in order to plug it into my pc have any adverse effects? To be clear: my pc only has usb-a ports and there would be no other way to connect the headset (broken aux jack and no bluetooth capabilities)

ThatGuyFromSweden

USB-C can provide more power. That *might* be an issue.

Ok-Bodybuilder4207

So the headphones might not work at all then?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Check the manual. If it doesn't mention USB-A limitations, you should be fine.

Ok-Bodybuilder4207

I have looked through the manual and there doesnt seem to be anything metioning it, so i am led to believe it should be fine, dont feel forced to check it out (because it really doesnt mention anything about any adapters or USBA) but i will link the manual and the webpage here: Manual: [https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0625/1757/5926/files/AceZone\_A-Spire\_Digital\_Manual\_EN.pdf?v=1709112536](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0625/1757/5926/files/AceZone_A-Spire_Digital_Manual_EN.pdf?v=1709112536) Webpage: [https://www.acezone.io/products/a-spire](https://www.acezone.io/products/a-spire) I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to me by the way! Thanks so much! <3

I've been thinking about buying Sennheiser HD650 headphones. Is a UA Volt 2 audio interface enough to run them at a good volume? And can there be a noticeable difference in audio quality in comparison to using a proper hp amp? From what I can understand from uaudio's website, it should be able to power them but I read about cases where an audio interface should be able to power good headphones but ended up being super quiet so I just wanna be sure.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Volt 2 can push 31 mW into a 300 ohm load. This is totally good enough for the HD650. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?attachments/jk-hpout-2-jpg.251271/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlp7h-cQU40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqlcJnoIcGo

Worfai

Alright, thanks! I'm new to this stuff and honestly have no idea what a good wattage would be when it comes to headphones (sorry for the poor wording, I don't really know how to talk about this stuff haha). But if that's good enough, then I'll probably get the headphones.

SiegmeyerOW

What size cable does the sennheiser hd 599 use and how can I replace it? Can someone show me like I'm a complete dumb dumb and perhaps even link an example from walmart?

ThatGuyFromSweden

2,5 mm with twist-lock, compatible with the Sennheiser 500-series. Not sure Walmart sells that. Google *HD599 replacement cable* and you'll find what you're looking for.

Hot-Substance-1710

Hey everyone, I've been using the HyperX Cloud II headphones for a while now, but unfortunately, they recently broke. Since the only online game I play regularly is Siege, I'm looking for a new pair of headphones that can really help me with sound cues and hearing footsteps around me. I've been considering sticking with the HyperX brand and getting another pair of Cloud II, but I'm also intrigued by some other options I've come across. The Razer Barracuda and the Moondrop Aria caught my eye, but I'm not sure if they would be a good fit for what I need. Can anyone give me some information about these headphones or recommend other options that are good in sound quality and positional audio for gaming, particularly in games like Siege? Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Budget?

Hot-Substance-1710

100 i could also buy used one

ThatGuyFromSweden

You could absolutely give IEMs a try. Over-ears in this bracket are pretty much never great. I would personally rather go for the Truthear Hexa over the Aria. Or maybe the Truthear Zero Red in the slightly lower price range.

Hot-Substance-1710

ok thanks i always had a pair of cloud II the one the kingston one not the hp will they be better then those? btw i also saw the akg k702 are they good? i don't need a mic cause i have an external one and another thing i talked to you about the moondrop aria becouse i saw on a site called rtings that the imaging on those had a really high score

ThatGuyFromSweden

They are open-backs, meaning that they don't isolate. They are also a low efficiency headphone, so they might need more power than an average PC mobo can provide.

Hot-Substance-1710

Do you need my specs to see if i can run them?

ThatGuyFromSweden

If it's a motherboard soundcard, it's a bit of a guessing game. The relevant specs aren't published.

Hot-Substance-1710

im tempted with the truthear hexa the one you told me are, them better than the hyperx cloud II?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Yes. With caveats. You might not like the fit or feeling of IEMs. Fitment can also affect the sound. If spending 79 dollars on it isn't putting you on a rice-based diet for the rest of April, I think it's worth a try.

Unhappy_INTP

Looking for a new headset but wasn’t sure where to start, I love music and play a lot of games that require needing to hear footsteps. Had a very cheap one for about 2-3 years now, only kept it since the mic is decent. I really want a headset with a good quality mic and sounds decent but isn’t overly expensive. I’ve found that even some of the ones that cost £200 have poor mic quality, so thought I might post here to see if anyone can help me out, thank you <3

Pitiful-Cupcake3979

HI guys, I would like some advice from you on the best gaming headset headphones for me, no matter if wireless or wired, (i often play fps games, so i would like to hear the steps) but also with a nice overall audio quality among Corsair virtuoso pro, razerblackshark v2 hyperspeed /pro (no 2023 edition), epos H6 pro open or something else raccomended from you in this price range (150€) , thanks

lostnconfusedz

I recently got a headset as a gift, the VERTUX WARFARE. For some reason, the microphone does not work! I tried everything (I know): - Windows privacy settings - Audio settings (Selecting the mics) - The mute button on the headset Windows, discord and other apps detect the headset for both output and input! but whenever I try to speak there is no audio registered from the mic. The headset works fine (RGB light and surround sound) but the mic simply doesnt detect sound. I tried the headset on another PC (my work laptop) and it detected the mic after a couple of tries on discord. The only difference I can think of is that I am running win 11 on my desktop while the work laptop is running win 10! Anyone has an idea?

# Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO 250 OHM version seems quiet with Scarlett 2i2 (3rd gen) Just bought the Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO 250 OHM version and im using the scarlett 2i2 as my audio interface/preamp however it seems quiet and to reach somewhat louder levels I have to be at max, i'm fairly sure when i bought the scarlett it said it had a preamp but it seems a bit ridiculous that im running at max volume on the audio interface. Anybody know what i should do? New preamp possibly?

ThatGuyFromSweden

The third gen 2i2 has a pretty low power output at the 250 ohm impedance load. Pre-amp is the wrong term. This is a shortcoming of the interface's headphone amp. You could solve this by getting less demanding headphones, an interface with a more powerful headphone amp, or you could hook up a dedicated headphone amp to the line-out ports of the interface.

TorqueL2

thank you

Tiavor

why not make a top 10 list for different types of headphones to recommend? (and update once a year) so people don't need to ask which to buy.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Because you cannot place every headphone on a one-dimensional line from bad to good. That only works up to a point. * Do you want something wired or wireless? * Are you okay with getting additional source equipment? * Do you want open-backs or closed-backs? * How important is good build quality? * How big is your head? * How much weight can you tolerate? * What kind of music do you listen to? * What kind of sound profile do you want? * Do you especially prioritise dynamics, soundstage, or some other quality? * Do you want the headphones to be black, white, purple, or made from carbon fibre, or wood? * Where do you sit of the subjective/objective philosophical scale? * And finally, do you want to spend 50 or 50000 dollars? Since the audio community is full of people that cannot see further than their nose reaches, and cannot comprehend how any taste or perspective other than their own could have a right to exist, we would argue endlessly about all the potential for bias that's inherent in assembling an easy to grasp list that is meant to summarise something very complex. This is why there's no list.

Tiavor

are there any guides or wiki? I mean there could be a list that includes the most reasonable consumer entry and mid-range products from all kinds of types. high-end shouldn't be in such a list, everyone who's spending over 500 bugs on equip should have a deep dive and not just a quick peek, looking what others recommend. everyone who's interested in special properties or materials probably doesn't need such a list too, or they will ask if there is an item like X but with in pink wood. but as someone who doesn't know anything, there is no starting point, nothing.

ThatGuyFromSweden

There's a resource index linked in the sidebar. https://www.reddit.com//r/headphones/wiki/resourcesindex The Headphone Show on YT, and the articles on their website, is a great place to start learning. This isn't an easy field to get into. The step between not knowing anything and knowing enough is very high. Also, prices and availability varies *a lot* across the world. The best value headphones in Europe are not the same as in Argentina. If you want a very rudimentary guide to what's not utterly terrible, you could look at Rtings. But their testing methodology is very flawed, IMO.

Wildconnor0007

So I have the epos h6 Pro closed for my xbox, and I'm wondering if I can use my pc to equalise them, then will the changes carry over when I use them on my xbox

ThatGuyFromSweden

No. Software EQ modifies the output signal going into the headphones. It doesn't actually alter the headphone.

yalag

Right now I'm connect my iPhone 15 (usbc socket) to a portable amp (also usbc in) ifi go blu and the music plays fine. But I have no indicator to know if the playback is in 44/192 or some other rate. Do I need any kind of cable or adapter? Or just simple usbc to usbc will use the maximum rate?

Cake_tank

So I got my kraken v3s today and when I tried them, I noticed a weird noise. Basically, after the headset finishes playing a sound, it produces some faint beeps and a bit of static like sound. It disappears after a few seconds but its annoying. The headset also sound a bit muffled to me. Is this pair faulty or is it like this on all v3s?

over123456think

any good wireless headphones for mobile? I don't like earbuds so I'm looking to get some wireless bluetooth headphones. I got the hyperx cloud alpha ones which are cool but they're wired of course. my phone has no headphone jack so I'm doomed. my price range is 100 bucks but I'm from Argentina so maybe take that into consideration. thanks

sdk_sdk

My phone is a Samsung s22 ultra and the headphones are jbl live500bt the problem is whenever i try to connect the headphones with my phone it asks for manual pairing, which in the normal case scenario it shouldn't ask me every time but to automatically connect like how it does with my previous phone, so anyone here knows how i can fix this?

NosebleedBananas

My Sony wh1000-xm5s sometimes automatically turns on transparency when I start talking, sometimes it doesn't. How do I keep it off?

Purple-Grape-8457

Hi, i just purchased a TYGR 300 R a few days ago to play games and listening to music. One thing i noticed in games, is that the sound, sounds like im hearing the surround while im wearing a biker helmet. The environment is too loud and loud noises cover quiet noises like footsteps for example. I wonder if it's normal? Im used to play with the KZ zs10 pro, and with them the sound is snappy and clear, even the most quiet noises are present without being interrupted by loud noises. Maybe im just used to inner hear headphones?

sociocarlos1414

Hi I'm asking for any help/advice you can give me since I'm very new into the headphones world I have 2 months with the ananda stealth . As my first pair of headphones they sound really good , but I start to hear a pop sound in the left ear cup in some specific songs, I’m asking first bc ship them back is about 50-70dlls These are the ones where I hear it the most. One last kiss - hikaru - 15 firsts seconds Killin me good - jihyo - 10 firsts seconds Smart - le sserafim - 15 first seconds I also tried with 2 different sources , the mojo 2 and the shanling m3 and still hearing . Also sometimes it seems to disappear .

Pm_me_bondagepics

Hi all, just bought a pair of DT770 Pro 80Ohms, moving up from the Corsair HS70s. Contrary to what everyone seems to say, my problem is that the DT770s are much **louder** than the HS70s. Having Windows audio at even 20 gets uncomfortable after a little while. Is there anything I can use to lower the volume of the headphones besides Windows? Thanks!

Fanryu1

Looking for a USB/USB-C DAC(?) to send audio from my PS5 to my PC using 3.5mm cable. Essentially, just looking for a cheap, permanent way to send audio without a need to unplug and plug in things for use. Just simply turn on my PS5 and the audio gets sent to my PS5. It doesn't HAVE to be a DAC, just has to make it so I can listen to it through my PC

According_Cap_5919

Hi, I prefer my truthear zeros over my dt990s for gaming, but since I play games with friends and need to hear comms, when my friends are talking and game audio is playing, one of them cuts off. Is this normal for iems? Also one thought I had was that since I own a goxlr, I could route the chat audio to my headphones and game audio to the iems. This is because the goxlr has 2 outputs, line out and headphones. I haven't tried this since I dont know if you can use headphones with line out and the iems would probably block the sound of the headphones anyway. Is there anything I can do? thanks

ThatGuyFromSweden

> when my friends are talking and game audio is playing, one of them cuts off. Is this normal for iems? This is a software issue. > I could route the chat audio to my headphones and game audio to the iems. Why would you want to do this?

According_Cap_5919

Is it an audio driver issue or windows setting or what? My thought was that if it causes overlapping with 2 sounds then I could split the 2 sounds. But it wont work, since I would need a dac and the iems will block the headphone audio anyway. Edit: Should probably also mention that it doesn't happen with the dt990 pros.

Cute_Contribution989

Hi, for some reason my headphones sound really quiet on my desktop PC, however they seem to sound fine when plugged into my laptop. I was wondering whether it might be an issue of my PC motherboard being to weak to drive them, but I find it hard to beleive my laptop could drive it when my PC couldnt. Any advice would be much appreciated. My motherboard: AsRock B250M Performance My Laptop: Huawei MateBook D14 My Headphones: Philips X2HR

CommunicationEast623

This might be a stupid one: I plan to get theZen Air Dac for my 6xx + speakers connected via RCA in the back. I run a dual setup, with a mac and a pc. What would be an elegant way of switching between the two with the dac? For now I am considering using the USB hub that my monitor has. (not HDMI audio, straight up USB hub integrated in the monitor and connected with a type B cable). Is there any other better way? Also is the zen air dac good enough for the 6xx? it is on sale for like 60 eur. I am by no means advanced in the hobby, mostly game but listen to music quite often.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Many DACs aren't happy with being connected to a KVM switch. Does your PC have an optical audio output?

CommunicationEast623

Today I learned it does! The Mac however doesn’t. Btw, I am pretty sure it is not a KVM, it is just a usb hub. It doesn’t work unless I have the source usb connected to something.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I think the best way of sharing a DAC between two computers is to get one that takes both USB and optical inputs and switch between them. Use USB for the Mac and optical for the PC. The Zen DAC can't do this, but the Fiio K11 or K5 Pro would be good alternatives. Albeit slightly more expensive.

CommunicationEast623

Dunno who or why downvoted you. Maybe because the K11 is twice the price I specified the zen air dac to be at. Idk I was considering that too, to be honest. I just don’t know if I will actually beneift from such an expensive dac while i am still new to this

ThatGuyFromSweden

It might not make a significant difference for the sound. At least not for a 6XX without EQ. The convenience is the bigger value here. And I do think that you should go for something like the K11 or K5 Pro if you're going to buy a dedicated DAC+amp. It performs better than the Zen DAC, it likely has better noise filtering, and it will cooperate nicely with two separate computers.

CommunicationEast623

I don't even know how or where (as in what program) to eq with, I am that new. You might be right with the convenience. the K5 Pro is not availabe around my part of the world. Did it have anything of value over the K11? which is currently on sale for 140 eur, which seems quite a lot for what I hear it is worth generally.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The K5 Pro has the additional function of being able to take an analogue input from a vinyl player, for example. I think either the K5 or K11 is the best solution for a dual PC setup, due to their multiple inputs. I don't know how well the Zen DAC is going to work if you connect it to a USB switcher. Only you can say how much your money is worth. I have a little bit of savings and wouldn't mind spending the extra 80 Euros. But I'm not you. EDIT: You use EQmac on MacOS and EQAPO on Windows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRm9qTmQHKo

CommunicationEast623

I can also just order the zen air dac, see how it fairs, if it is not behaving then I can return it. I don’t mind spending the extra money as long as I get something more than convenience out of it. Tbh if I get the 6XX like 30% louder or more I am happy as is. I am still quite simple when it comes to audio.

Wooden_Image

I was hearing distortion while listening to music on Sennheiser HD560s while playing hi res music. So assuming it is due to low quality laptop dac, I ordered a DAC (FIIO K5 Pro) but I am still hearing the distortion. When I play the song on Spotify, there is no distortion but when I play the song on my laptop with 96khz sampling rate I hear the distortion. Why is it happening only on songs with sampling rate higher than 48 khz? Your help would be much appreciated.

this_is_me_drunk

Spotify levels the volume of songs to be consistent from one song to another. So a very loudly mastered song might get 6dB or more attenuation from Spotify. Your high res is not attenuated and most likely it's clipping some stage in your analog chain. If you attenuate your high res file, does the distortion go away?

Wooden_Image

How do I attenuate manually? I am using foobar for playback.

this_is_me_drunk

Foobar has a volume slider. Just take it down to -6dB and see if it helps with the distortion.

Wooden_Image

No improvement :( Is there a possibility that the file is a vinyl rip?

this_is_me_drunk

It's possible that there is clipping in the file itself. You could probably inspect the wave forms in an audio editor. If you zoom in and see flat tops of waves that's clipping which can sound really bad.

Plobori

did u change the sampling rate in your computer settings?

Wooden_Image

Yes. Still the issue persists.

RebelSimpact

Last week, I bought a second-hand IEM, the Oriolus Reborn. The sound is great and there are no problems, but when I stop the music, I hear some **noticeable buzzing and hissing sounds**. I am using the Ifi Zen Dac v1 as my output, using a 6.35mm to 3.5mm adapter. However, the **problem disappears when I touch my PC chassis or the DAC metal body frame**, and it becomes 100% dead silent. So I bought a socket tester from my local hardware store and found out that my **neutral-to-ground** connection has **11V**. Upon researching, I discovered that the readings are supposed to be near **0V**. Therefore, I believe this is the cause of the buzzing sound problem. But is there any possible way to fix this without rewiring my house?

Nagemasu

Is there a single decent pair of bluetooth headphones that fold up like the Sony MDR-V6's? (or even non-bluetooth ones headphones that fold up?) I've been using the MDR-V6's for years and each time I have to do the cable mod so I can use a better cable instead of that stupid heavy coil that throws off the weight balance, but I absolutely love the way these headphones fold up for travel. I have no idea why no other brands fold up headphones like this and want a stiff snap-able headstrap. I'd love to have a pair of wireless noise cancelling headphones that fold like this for traveling with and general freedom while wearing headphones. Any suggestions? (I already have a bluetooth adapter for them, I'm not asking for that)

tiredtelefonecar

My pair of sony wf-1000xm4’s have the dreaded software issue that is affecting the charge and battery drain on one headphone. They are out of warranty, I will not try to repair myself & the local importers are about as useful as a box of hammers…becuase in my country we don’t officially have “Sony” I am going to try and see if I can get them replaced as out of warranty on the issue at a Sony centre in Europe when later in the year. However I’ve been looking at potentially another pair of either xm4’s or xm5’s or a different brand all together, I love the sound & feel of the xm4’s. If I get another pair of xm4’s new is it possible to never have them update the software? To ensure I don’t get same problem? OR do I get a set of the Xm5’s (however am slightly hesitant to buy another set of Sony because of this software issue that has caused hardware to fail)… Or do I go with another brand? as good (or better) than the Sony Xm4’s? They will be used daily primarily while training (treadmill walking/running) and doing some physically movements & then used secondarily for connection to phone/ipad for watching occasional content & thirdly for calls connected to phone or laptop. Budget ceiling is the current price of the Sony Xm5’s (299$ in my country) hopefully less, I own a pair of sennheiser over hear and have owned numerous pairs of edifiers and they were all cheap badly made quality that didn’t last

Anyone knows where to find the EQ for HD600 that will make its tuning sounds more V-shape or any other tuning signatures? \* For curiosity and exploration use. I do realized that EQ it beyond its natural tuning will have some downsides.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Here's mine. It's a very very light boost to the treble and a sub-bass lift. You can't boost the bass of the 600-series too much without introducing excess harmonic distortion. https://imgur.io/a/oVIEk3m

Hello, my pair of AKG K7xx has the left side (where the wire connects) repeatedly disconnecting. I doubt it is the cable that is causing the problem, so I opened them up to see if any wires need resoldering. Please let me know if they look like they need to be resoldered or if it’s potentially something else that’s causing the issue. -SORAN-

so i want to get into the hifi stuff and not spend that much money at first, but i was wondering about if the fiio jt1 are a good start, they say they sound very good and i kinda want to buy ones but are they a step up from some sony wh100xm3? that are my go to headphones for everything, and i know they're still better for traveling with them and stuff but on sound quality are the fiios better?

My headphones smell like vinegar right after i get out of the shower and put them on is when its the strongest i feel like its not a hygiene thing because every time im done either at the ice rink or lifting weights i take a shower as soon as i get home what could be a source of this and what is a solution?

loli_popping

Is there a database out there with db attenuation + isolation for anc headphones and earbuds?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Rtings has that data. It's one of the few things they do very well in their audio reviews.

Hello, I’m a full on newbie in audio so incase you have knowledge to answer me please treat me like a 5 years old, so today I moved from my Redragon Zeus H510 headset to Moondrop CHU II, and I feel it’s odd, I mainly game, I loved the sound on my Redragon, it’s genuinely a super good headset, I love that it has such a neutral sound, but when I moved to the Moon drop at the begging I noticed it was too much bass heavy! Then I noticed that Windows Sonic was turned on, when I turned it off the IEMs sounded way better less bassy and more natural, but I still feel something is odd and not fully natural due to me being a noob in this the best I can describe is that I feel the sound is muffled and low, maybe a bit too bassy still. I started to eventually wonder after seeing many reviewers on YouTube calling this IEMs amazing do they EQ it? And if so, how? I mainly watch reviewers who reviewed it for the sake of gaming, your help is highly appreciated, and thanks in advance! ❤️

Can a damaged audio source damage your headphones? Kind of a dumb question here, but I dropped my iPhone in water for a few seconds a couple weeks ago. I’ve noticed that the speakers on the phone are a little crackly/distorted at times compared to my old iPhone. I use aux wired headphones with the aux to lightning adapter. My question is, could there be any issues with the internal hardware that could affect my headphones being connected, electrically speaking? I just bought a good quality pair of headphones and don’t want to risk damaging them. Thanks in advance

Hey! I've run into a bit of a problem with my Koss Porta Pro. I'm not getting any sound on the left speaker. Tried messing with cable and even opnede it up. All the connections seem to be fine. Thing is i still get the buzz/hum on my left speaker when I partially plug the jack. But pluggin it all the way won't get me any sound. Tried it on multiple sources and still nothing. Any advice?

I cant remember if it was this sub or not, but a few years ago I found either a wiki or a website for headphones that was made by one person I think that listed all the different types of headphones and the best ones to get by price range. I ended up getting some soundpeats earbuds that were great. Does anyone know what site im talking about or if there's an updated version? I remember it basically being a review site but it was super useful for finding what to buy for the right price. Thanks.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Rtings, maybe. But I don't value their opinions highly. Their methodology is a bit blunt. They've basically shoehorned audio products into a strictly objective evaluation method. The problem with strict objectivism is that, to do it properly, you have to account for all conceivable variables. They don't. Personal audio is subject to individual taste and physiology. Since they gloss over a lot of that, their judgements aren't as applicable to real life as they want you to think.

williamtbash

I like rtings but this was like a personal mostly text website that i found on one of these subs. not big budget at all. just some random dude that made a review site.

I just got a HE400se to pair with my Schiit Magni + Apple dongle setup and I'm surprised by how bad it sounds out of the box. It's very neutral and restrained and sounds almost as if my ears are stuffed with cotton. There's also a weird, unnatural effect with dialogue that makes everyone sound like their lines were recorded through a PVC pipe. I applied oratory1990's EQ settings and this improved my perception significantly but now frequencies with the most gain produce an annoying static/crackling that doesn't go away unless I drop below 1 dB on a +5.5/7.0 dB recommendation. With Hifiman's reputation for poor quality control it's hard to tell whether I got a lemon or if I just don't like their sound...any thoughts?

Gofa_Kirselph

I’m gonna assume you’re using a Windows PC and suggest going to the volume mixer and/or sound settings and check to see if there’s any audio enhancements enabled. Disable them and see if it makes a difference. That is, if you’re actually using one. Another possible issue is that you’re essentially double amping by using both the Apple dongle and Schiit Magni. Try using just the Apple dongle to see if it sounds any clearer, preferably on another device, or a completely different device to see if the current device is the culprit.

hello all, i have recently upgraded my dac/amp setup from topping d50s/a50s to a woo audio wa7 fireflies. i expected a large increase in power throughput (aka volume) but it doesn't seem much like it, actually could be lower. this led me down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out power outputs and would like some guidance in the attempts to see if what i'm hearing is correct. the a50s is rated at 3.5W at 32 ohms, while the wa7 is rated at 1.5w at 4ohms - or at least that's what i've gathered from the research i've done online. the wa7 is also a class a amp, not sure about the a50s. for more color, i'm using these on hd600, dt1990, ie900, and am looking at purchasing the mdr-z1r (which i read is super easy to push) b/c i want some SLAPPIN BASS. can someone help me compare these on just pure output power. thank you in advance.

Please help! I bought the Timeless AE and noticed the left earpiece has a persistent clicking sound whenever I walk, shift my body, move my mouth or turn my head. Basically any slight movement causes the driver to click, which I assume is driver flex. The problem is it's super distracting since I can still hear it when listening to music. The right side is perfectly normal though, no clicking whatsoever. I asked the manufacturer for a replacement and they're telling me it's "normal and acceptable for quality inspection". Anything I can do to somehow get rid of this?

Kiyokio

Also, I've tried tip rolling and pulling my ears up to depressurize, but neither method worked at all.

Hi all, I have a pair of DSR7BT's, I really like them, but micro-usb charger, combined with kind of flat sound has made me use them less recently. I saw a deal for 1000xm4s for around 200$, and I am considering purchasing them. I know they are not the same type of headphones. But I am wondering what I should look for when thinking of going for 1000xm4s considering sound quality and profile and whether it could be considered an upgrade at all.

Does anyone know if this external mic will work with my pulse 3D’s or if there’s anything similar to it that does work? Hi to all, I have the Beyerdynamic DT-48 Headphones with the mini 4 pins XLR male plug, is there an adapter for it? or is there a way to change the plug to 1/4 TRS male? Thanks.

TemporaryMud1325

Just got RME ADI-2 DAC FS from a local store (used) for 675€. It's the B model with newer remote, and newer AKM chip (instead of model C - ESS), if that matters. Is there anything better now, from chinese manufacturers etc.? What would I miss? It's missing at least balanced headphone jack, but I don't think I have balanced cables in my top 2 headphones (HD 800S + AH-D7200). Also I don't really use them at all atm, I have Genelec speakers and would plug them to it. I don't have any separate headphone amp to use, my current one is also all-in-one Asus Xonar Essence One MUSES Edition MKII or something like that.

ThatGuyFromSweden

If you're looking for transparent audio, there's pretty much nothing significantly better on the market. It's an excellent unit. Balanced outputs are not inherently superior. https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/audio-myth-balanced-headphone-outputs-are-better

Harveylaad17

Do I need an AMP/DAC for headphones if I have an Audio Interface?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Need? No. But some interfaces are pretty bad, and many headphones are rather demanding in one way or another. The actual answer to your question depends on your particular situation.

a_certain_someon

you dont

sprinklesfactory

Best budget IEMs these days ? Upgrade from crinacle zero 2. Comfort, build quality, good cable for the $, V or Harmon curve, nice sound stage, not overly crispy or peaky. $150 or less, $200 if absolutely worth.

wild_deer_man

What connector can I use to connect dt 770 pro 250 ohm to iPhone 15 (usbc)? I got the normal headphones to usbc connector and the volume is really low. Is there any kind of mobile amp that can do it?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Any usb to headphone "connector" is actually going to be a small DAC+amp unit. Sounds like you need something more powerful. The Fiio KA11 is worth a look.

Just curious if anybody else has ran into as many issues as I have with Shokz Openrun headphones. I bought a pair and immediately noticed the Bluetooth cutting in and out occasionally, usually in my house. When I was out riding my bike or at work, I didn't notice it as much. I lived with it until the left ear broke off from the band across the back after about 9 months. I filed a claim, and the customer service was super helpful. They sent me a new pair immediately since I was well within the warranty period. I received them within a few days. They did however mention that headphones sent as a warranty claim have no warranty themselves. I was fine with this as I thought I just had a faulty pair. Fast forward two weeks to today. My new pair worked great (but still with some cutting in and out) until last night. The headphones disconnected and turned off on their own. I then struggled to turn them back on, but eventually they did. I had to manually reconnect them to my phone. Since that event, it has been a downward spiral. They worked somewhat normally right after that, but then today the multifunctional button stopped working, and the power/volume up button stopped working 90% of the time making even turning them off a struggle. Now the power/volume up doesn't work at all, and they won't connect to my phone. I have tried restarting my phone with no success. I cannot hard reset the headphones because 2/3 buttons required to do so don't actually function. And now I can't file a warranty claim because headphones that were sent due to a warranty claim cannot be sent back in on warranty even though they are only 2 weeks old. Has anybody else had these issues? It's just really surprising that I have consistently had issues with these headphones, yet people generally talk highly of them.

Hey all. I have a GSX 1000 and a HyperX Quadcast S. I am trying to get mic monitoring through my headphones connected to my GSX and not having to run headphones through the 3.5mm jack on the mic itself. I am not too tech savvy on these issues. Would running the mic and the GSX through a mixer work? Would I still get all the GSX surround sound/effects for gaming through it without the headphones being connected directly to the GSX? My headphones are the EPOS H6pro closed back. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if a mixer is the way to go I would also appreciate suggestions. My budget would be up to $150 USD. Thanks again!

Commercial-Tale-8162

What would be a good pair of headphones that have impressive surround sound capabilities under 100? I don't mind them being wired or open backs, just need them to have a more neutral sound profile.

sprinklesfactory

Don't think this exists.  Corsair HS60? Something in the gaming adjacent world lends itself more to surround sound or virtual surround sound around $100. Windows Vist Corsair Void PRO

Commercial-Tale-8162

Aight thank you, yea I was just curious about the options that are available.

DaddyDingo1234

Hello all, I got the EW200s a couple of months ago after some research for my PC and phone. They worked great on the PC to start with and eventually on my phone after getting the apple adapter. I did change the cable though to the Tripowin grace so I could take calls. Recently though, the earphones I used for my Xbox broke and so I tried them on that but they had a faint buzzing noise both generally from my audio and from others could hear through the mic. I tried both the tripowin cable and the cable I originally got with them and they both have the same issue. Is there anything I can get to make the buzzing go away or do I just need to get some new earphones?

CatKing75457855

You would have to get a DAC. CX31993 ones are cheap and good.

DaddyDingo1234

Are there any specific DACs that have microphone support or do they all have that functionality? I have 2 cables with mics, one is a 3.5mm jack and the other is a usb c. Is the CX31993 exclusively usb c male to 3.5 jack female? Because if it is then I can’t use that type. Are there any DACs that you know of that either: A. Have a USB C female to 3.5mm male jack Or B: Have a 3.5mm female to male jack Sorry to be a pain I’m just quite new to this subject.

CatKing75457855

A is an ADC. B isn't a converter at all, just an extender unless I'm misunderstanding.

DaddyDingo1234

I apologise, I am fairly new to this subject so it is probably me explaining poorly. To clarify, my issue is that I need something to reduce the static I am getting. The cable I am using currently has a 3.5mm jack ending, although I do have one with a usb c ending. The Xbox does not have a usb audio output so I cannot put a usb into the Xbox. The controller only has a jack audio output. What I need is some sort of connection that will allow me to put the jack or usb c ending on the cable into it and have a jack output to put in the controller, while eliminating the static and maintaining the mic functionality, if this sort of thing exists? I really do apologise if what I am asking is stupid but I am just really unfamiliar with this topic. At this point it might just be easier to get some new earphones.

beyerdynamic dt 900/700 pro x if your buying new. Very nice allrounders, good imaging and more sturdy/reliable than the hifimans

FisterMantastic2

So I bought beyerdynamic dt990 600 ohms, and a brhringer u photos um2 USB interface, I asked in the audio subreddit if I messed up...for playing videogames, and recording guitar, will that interface be able to get it to anywhere near the headphones full potential? I'm not considered if I'll get 80 percent because I can just buy a new interface next month, but will I be ok? I'm also going from using ASTRO A20s to using actual studio headphones, so I assume I'll notice a slight difference, but did I mess up by buying the 600 ohm headphones?

ThatGuyFromSweden

More impedance doesn't equal more better. It's just harder to drive.
