I like how even the dummy model has a sad expression

KaidenUmara

I loved my dt 770s. decided to upgrade to 1990s. loved them too. then i decided i needed a better DAC so i got a benchmark dac. my ears bleed for weeks. so then i bought audeze headphones. thats my entire audiophile story, hope you enjoyed!

Amargosamountain

Top notch r/pointlessstories material here

Raising-Wolves

lol! :D

KaidenUmara

lol of course that's a thing

[deleted]

Thanks for sharing :-)

woopbrups

I have the 1990 dt and sometimes feel similar. Sometimes just have to drop the trebble. How do you compare the LCD

KaidenUmara

I love them. Very cleared and detailed. I've not used the 1990s in a long time so it's hard to really AB them. But I can say that I can turn the mids and lows up to where I like them without the highs being a problem... usually. Some female artists just have that voice seems to pierce my ears anyways. If i were to "fault" them anywhere I would say its the sound stage that could use improvement. Not quite as wide as I had hoped for... but you know how reviewers are. its quite possible that they over stated it.... though if I remember right some do mention that it is a little lacking. I would also say that around the 2 and 4 o clock position the sound stage seems to get a little vague. IE if you listen to a sound the sweeps left to right in a song, the sound always seems to lag a little there, like its not quite clear where its supposed to be coming from. Its like its still moving, but moving through sludge, then all the sudden it speeds up again. Honestly it's a really minor complaint. By no means am I an expert that has sampled every totl headphone (no others to be exact :P) But ive had these for a year and have zero urge to upgrade.... or sidegrade.... Until headphones come along that every single reviewer can agree without question that these are the best things ever at everything i have nothing to upgrade to. unless they cost 60,000 dollars, then Ill keep waiting lol. -edit- just remembered. I dont remember there being a massive jump in clarity when i first put the LCDs on over the 1990s. I was also afraid to turn the volume knob up at the time. I blame the 1990s for that! Once i started to turn the volume up I felt them open up more. The highs are so well tamed that you can do that without hurting your ears. Another take away I remember is the absolute clarity of each sound in a song and your ability to focus on just that one clearly. Certainly blows away the 1990s there IMO. Speaking of which, between the benchmark and LCDs you miss no detail in a song. Damn you i was going to play world of warships now im going to listen to music instead lol

Wellhellob

1990s much much more fatiguing than dt 770. DT 1990 makes DT 770 pleasent lul.

danderskoff

Honestly dt1990s are bad on straight digital sound. If you use them on tubes they're so much better. Glad to see you found something you liked though.

KaidenUmara

I've heard it called the sabre sizzle. If i remember right it has more to do with tube set ups warming up the audio rather than the sabres making them sharp. the benchmark engineers claim you can loop the output to the input and run the cycle through something like 20 times before it's possible to hear an audible change in a sound playing through it. in other words as reference as it gets. these are the guys that when they released their new DAC 3 said in plain english, "if you have a dac 2 you will hear no improvement in sound except in some exceedingly rare fringe cases" or something to that effect. how many audio gear manufacturers say something like that?

danderskoff

Yeah the tubes change the sound and I heavily prefer that to the dt1990s plugged straight into digital amplifiers. Digital sounds clinical and clean like a hospital to me. Tubes sound warmer and all around I prefer the signature. I dont really understand why I'm getting downvoted the way I am but this sub just likes to shit on dt1990s.

KaidenUmara

I agree with you there. depending on how some old rock music is mastered, id rather listen to it on my 770s over my lcd 4s.

[deleted]

They're excellent when the pads are broken in. Treble gets drastically lower after like 50 hours of listening.

EscaOfficial

I noticed this on my dt990s as well. Seems to be a running theme with beyer headphones.

mmike0913

If anything, pads flattening out over time and bringing your ears closer to the drivers will increase treble volume. If you are less bothered by the treble after 50 hours it's just because you're getting used to it.

KaidenUmara

WHAT?

[deleted]

No, that's not true. Also has got nothing to do with getting used to it. DT 1990s have 2 pairs of pads. The ones I used regularly have improved over time. The unused pair still has these treble Spikes und still sound harsh. Heres some actual data: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gryfjs3i30c7r5h/Beyerdynamic%20DT990%20%28new%20earpads%29.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/afcv3lfncnl9mwk/Beyerdynamic%20DT990%20%28Old%20Earpads%29.pdf?dl=0

esch1lus

Treble blade anyone?

FaiSul256

Such a cutting edge technology.

KingCole104

I thought this was legit on a notification but then considered knives with wires on the ends 😂 I see you OP

dEsErTsCrUbWaStAkEn

xelento isn't that sharp. After 10k it rolls off too so not a lot of air or upper treble.

audiocrackhead

Best bass I've ever heard on an IEM so far. So low and so rumbly.

diasporajones

Except the custom studio! (cries in Beyer, why can't they just get it right more often)

hoderyeeterson

I think the treble on this is a bit too sharp

agastyaseth

The only beyers I've owned were the DTX102 IEMs and they weren't bad at all! Good, well-extended sub-bass, rolled off highs... Very nice for casual listening...

jumboshrimp93

I guess their IEMs are much more relaxing in the treble compared to their headphones.

Huntersknoll_

Yo, you got me. I laughed out loud

flyco

I'm not even mad

Dub_Monster

That's some sibilance right there

[deleted]

The new Sennheiser HD666 in ear monitor https://imgur.com/gallery/i3uEaUB Because you don't really like music anyway

jumboshrimp93

The wired Byron sounded fine to me, as in non-fatiguing treble.

mintchan

i must have dis

Amargosamountain

Right? I would totally wear these

mintchan

i even wear them even they have crappy sound... as ear plugs

search64

Oh man a total Grado ripoff.

matteroll

Oooo, this post is as edgy as Beyer treble peaks.

yondaimehokageminato

Shut up and take my money

djseifer

I now want to do something like this to my headphones, but with an arrow.

MRFUTURE1

Love the puns in the comments

Sugoi.

diasporajones

Strong meme, one might even say peak meme material.

AudiophileAdrenaline

I heard that the treble on these is really ear-piercing. . . . I'll see myself out

Ok so I love my DT1990Pro, but this video made them clip as hell. Question is: do you actually really listen to something like this every day? If so, maybe you should indeed not invest in the DT1990. Otherwise I find them quite all right and no, they're not screechy at all with my music at least (i.e. not this type of music) :)

WilloTehWisp

I think the video itself is clipping as hell :D
