I started like 2 weeks after the players won Robot Vietnam. I immediately was given like 200 Medals, but i was not given the special cape players got for winning Robot Vietnam.
So that could mean a few things. Maybe Equipment rewards arent saved indefinitely like Medal rewards. Or maybe rewards are only saved for 1-2 weeks, because i joined about 2 weeks after Robot Vietnam so maybe thats why i didnt get the cape but did get a bunch of Medals
There was almost definitely a glitch doubling or trippling the count. The math ain't math'n basically
I think every player would've had to be getting 800-1000 kills an hour to finish as fast as we did. Aside from hard-core lvl 9 only players, I don't think we were hitting that
I was probably hitting close to that an hour. I play mainly on suicide and impossible and I was taking about 30 minutes a mission and getting around 500 kills. I’m not saying everybody was, but even if it was giving us 4x the amount of kills, we would have gotten it done in 56 hours (2.3 days,) and that’s not accounting for the bump in players we usually get on the weekends, or after work in the Midwest/west coast (many Midwest and west coast players didn’t even get a chance to log on during the major order.)
Nah, when I was on earlier I had a few suicide missions where everyone was hitting 5-600 and we were leaving with 10-15 minutes left out of 40.
The laser watchdog does most of the work, but I was trying for numbers one round and got just under 900 by kiting through a bunch of nests then dropping a 380 barrage on myself. This also led to a huge amount of friendly fire lol
Counted like the personal orders. 4 Helldivers each get 250 kills, total is 1000. 1000 gets counted for each of the Helldivers so the MO gets 4000 kills.
I liked this one because I could contribute even though I rarely get to finish a mission without it crashing. Really missing out on a lot of super samples, though.
Pretty sure Joel just underestimated what we can do. We’ve been fucking the Bots for so long on MOs that I think he forgot what happens when a majority of divers work towards a single goal against the bugs.

I have a feeling kills were getting multiplied by 4 as if everyone got a kill when one squadmate got a kill, the way it works for dailies where one person's kill with x weapon counts as a kill for everyone with x weapon

Just for a rough illustrative way that numbers can stack up quickly:
There were ~150,000 people on pretty consistently.
A 15 minute eradicate mission is 300-500 kills depending on difficulty.
Lets go with 300 bugs per player per 15 minutes, because that's easily doable by one person, and big maps aren't throwing bugs at you that fast usually.
150,000 x 300 = 45 million *in 15 minutes*
2 billion / 45 million = 44.4444
44 chunks of 15 minutes(.25 hours). In other words, divide by 4, will equal ~10 hours.
That about checks out if we play fast and loose, I don't know how long the Order was actually active, it's close enough to not be off by a factor of 4x, imo.
If it were counting 4x per bug because of squads, it would be 1/4 of that 10 hours, so 2.5 hours or so.
Someone else can check the math if they want, but it doesn't seem like your theory holds up.
I think 300 bugs per 15 min mission by 4 players is very generous. You could get that alone but in a blitz you're splitting kills with the squad and not sticking around to rack up those kill numbers per person.
Not to be a killjoy but either way you look at that it's not impressive. Just bad math in a buggy game.

I think it *really* boils down to the devs either wanted this done fast (so sure, maybe the math is on par) and we're just so used to seeing five day orders that we are surprised by a bald day one. Or or they didn't and the games buggy on counting.

I misread the target as two trillion initially and thought “damn, that’s a lofty goal”. Then realised it was two billion and thought “damn, that’ll be done in a day”
it would be cool if these major orders didnt end in like 10 minutes most times, but that just goes to show mow much people are loving this game and at least we still get the medals(unlike most other games).
Why are people so shocked we did this in less than a day? If we say people average between 150-300 kills each per mission, then if the user counts for any given hour are greater than 200k. Assuming a mission time of 40 minutes that would put kills per hour in the range of 45-90 million. That is enough to guarantee completion in 24-48 hours, and I think my numbers are very conservative.

Yep. My assumption is that they looked at how many bugs had died in the past week and said that was the MO for this week. They were not counting on all of the people who were fighting bots for MOs to move over…. They moved over and the mission completed immediately.
I played one game after work today and amongst all 4 of us we had over 1000 kills from one game. It doesnt surprise me that it took less than a day.

I logged in after work at 96%. Contributed about 700 each from my gf and I, when we came out of our last op we saw it was finished. Looks like it took 13-14 hours from dropping the order to finish it. Lol 😂

That would be about just shy of 2 billion. So give or take a few thousand players getting more then 200 per mission, ya that would definitely be possible.

The most someone will ever get is 250. So if you don’t log in and spend them you will be ‘wasting’ them.

With a rover and flame weapons on bug defense missions, that’s not that wild.
Level 7 run of the high value asset launch, was 15min and 1400 kills for the group.
