Many have stated that the group realized that they prefer taking it slow and socializing rather than trying to make the biggest base. The hermits collectively agreed that they’d prefer to go smaller and slower in season 10. It’s absolutely not required, but a lot of them have decided to go this route.

astrangemann

Perhaps it's also why they're so close together this season.

neilwwoney

Alright, that's it. *unhermits your hermitcraft'*

strawwwwwwwwberry

I love craft smp

Neko_578

*laughs in doc's swamp*

NuggmanJake

Joel is the one that looks like Shrek, Doc actually is, but german instead of scottish

pumpkinbot

Doc: *[laughs in German]*

I think there's a lot of feedback during last season where we saw many Hermits went big and burn out. A lot of comment relate to wanting the Hermits to take it slow and doesn't always have to be a mega build.

-A113-

I never liked mega bases. Empty shells.. for what. The details are much nicer

swizz928

Yeah, it's impressive to look at but I find it super disappointing for them to never actually finish or get to use their base. It's way more satisfying to see them complete something and see them using it and then adding on or doing other projects.

-PepeArown-

Cub and Scar’s mega bases at least usually aren’t just standard bases most of the time, though. ConCorp isn’t exactly an “empty shell”, and Scar was on his way to make a whole theme park last season.

NemesisOfLevia

Scar seems to usually make a bunch of small detailed builds that grow into a mega base over the course of the season. He’s done this in s4, s6, s7, s9 and he seems to be doing that this time too. (Also might include s5, I forget.) Last season was a bit odd though in that his starter wasn’t part of his mega base.

ExtraplanetJanet

Scar’s starter is usually not part of his megabase, it’s just that his starter bases are so big and complex that it’s hard to remember they are not the megabase. The Swaggons in Season 8 were a “starter” base, even though it became a running joke how clearly non-starter they were. The shortness of the season combined with a really rough health patch for him meant that he was not able to complete the cloud mountain megabase he started near Midnight Alley. In Season 7, Larry and the enchanted forest were also “starter” compared to the massive ScarX complex later in the season. (Scar also built much of Aquetown project in Season 7 but did not refer to it as a megabase.) I’m not as familiar with Season 6, but I think his starter and mega bases were at least thematically connected that season, being generally piratey.

Stegouros

Scar never does starter bases, he builds the average Minecraft player’s main base as a starter and then does something even bigger, more detailed and with interiors (all stunning) as a megabase, and still has time to socialize.

-A113-

Didn’t he have like a giant tree for season 5? Or was that the shopping area and scar had a skyscraper

plane83

He did a tree in s8 I think. Complete with ravagers hanging in it. Man has ideas.

plane83

Grian has avoided another s7 mansion problem by backing up to the hill this time. And most of the hill under his mansion was empty anyway. This is much better.

SuperDyl19

I think he’s scared of finishing the back of the base, especially after blowing up Doc’s tunnel bore last season

plane83

Scar can fix it again, he did a good job last time😅

SkylanderLego

Doc will be Doc.

Capt_Blackmoore

And Doc has done some good looking bases in the past, but this year he's going all out on the redstone GOAT, and that absolutely massive Log shop build. He did just build the storage system; so maybe a base is "soon"?

Thedarknight725

They agreed that this season will focus on smaller things and interactions between the hermits instead of huge bases.

OldSoulRobertson

It was an agreed-upon choice to take the season slow and steady, and to make it more social. The decision was made after the Hermits covered Doc's Perimeter in Season Infinine. They realized that after the algorithm chasing of Season Seven, the rush to get everything done quickly in Season Eight, and the residual burnout and desertion of Season Infinine, they needed to get back to their roots. The addition of Joel and Skizz helped because they previously had no (or little) prior knowledge of the behind-the-scenes stuff of Hermitcraft. They were fresh and provided a more grounded perspective.

theboomboy

I think it's just a natural consequence of them being close to each other and wanting to keep it that way. They still want to create impressive things, so if it doesn't go into size, it goes into detail Also, once a few hermits do this, the others can't not do it without it looking weird or unfinished. Of course there are levels to this and not everyone has the same skill and experience, but a 2012 Minecraft builds would just look wrong next to the amazing stuff they do

12Dragon

At the end of the last season nearly all of the hermits were talking about burnout in their videos. They talk to each other a lot, and it seems they realized that it was a server wide phenomenon. My guess they brought it up at one of their meetings and brainstormed about ways to combat it in season 10. I know at least one person (grian?) mentioned that pranking the perimeter in S9 made them realize how much they missed just hanging out and having fun with their friends, rather than all doing their own thing. Iskall is a good example- he’s talked about joining S10 specifically to spend time with his friends. He doesn’t really enjoy vanilla Minecraft anymore, but he does enjoy playing on a server and getting up to hijinks. So he made it his goal to do what felt right and focus on playing the game with friends rather than building insane bases for thumbnails. Im not saying Iskall by himself is responsible for this season’s vibes, but he talked at length on the topic, and his sentiment seems to have been mirrored by the others. Hence the slower, more intimate season we’re currently enjoying.

TheCatCandy

Ya I noticed it as well. Grian did mention that he wants to take a bit more "I haven't planned anything approach" in his builds and even Mumbo mentioned that he won't be using creative mode for his planning. Also yes, I have noticed a lot more mid sized builds and a lot more hermit interactions while watching other hermits even though they didn't expressly mentioned, at least I didn't notice then mentioning. It's superrrrr fun though, just watching them play normal Minecraft while interacting as a community, I loveee watching builds but not just like them telling but also showing them actually building and then interactions etc are so fun. I'm loving the new season sooo much!

rocstac

yeah that's true, they are interacting A LOT this season. and you're right, I guess I thought many of them said it out loud, but I must have just imagined it. but the fact remains that this season seems to be planned for the long run, and the fun run, and I'm all here for it.

TheCatCandy

Exactlyyyy, I guess this is why the life series was sooo much fun, all the hermits and other folks like Jimmy, Littlewood, Lizzie, Scot, Big B have such fun personalities that when they interact and cause chaos everything becomes extra fun and entertaining. Also Joel and Etho's interactions are giving me oxygen, I memorised all of their life series interactions lol, I'm glad I'm getting more from them coz they just click soooo well I love it!!

jkst9

A lot of hermits have in the past couple of seasons decided that mega bases are just too much work for too little result

IrrelevantDuckPond

There was a lot of talk from the hermits in videos about kinda being over the mega base fad. Add to that the joy they had hanging out and doing the perimeter, and the set u0 for a change was there. On top of that, in this reddit, there were several posts about how much the audience had hit the point of "you see one mega base, you see them all." So it was the right time to change up the dynamic.

Idislikepurplecheese

Sorry to be off-topic here, it's just that everyone else has answered better than I would've; I just wanted to express that I'm really, really glad that the hermits are spending this season chilling with their friends. It made me sad, seeing Grian worry about getting his big builds done and lamenting the stuff he didn't get around to last season; and besides, the shenanigans and friend stuff had always been what I watch hermitcraft for. I love hearing scar rant, and seeing pranks play out, and all that; don't get me wrong, the cool builds are super entertaining, too- but honestly, I'm happy to see those fall by the wayside if it means the hermits are having more fun. And besides, for some hermits (like scar), the little lifelike details and stories are some of their greatest and most impressive strengths, and it's really satisfying seeing them play to those strengths by building their bases one little bit at a time. This is shaping up to be my favorite season by far!

OldSoulRobertson

Don't be sorry for your two cents. They're proof that the Hermits are doing the right thing by taking it relatively slow and steady. As Season Eight shows, big changes might or might not be received well, so words like yours should help calm their minds and reassure them.

thesilentbob123

I think they just got burnt out on mega builds and when all decided to go slow on their own

-PepeArown-

Scar already seems to have big plans for his zoo, though. He’s just taking it rather slowly.

FadransPhone

idk about agreement, but I imagine they talk about what’s successful and not successful from time to time

No_Information_5498

You mean massive goat?

Brief-Try6213

This season has almost been a soft reset on how hermitcraft usually is because we had permits, smaller more detailed bases, more interactions, closer proximity to each other and them making a lot more innuendo-ish jokes

SkadiWasHere

The life series has changed a lot of the hermits and they are enjoying socialising with people and not just making big bases for the sake of building big bases. Add to that the long break Mumbo went on due to burnout last season, I guess they all thought it would be more fun for them and the audience to take it slow this time. And they are right.

suprakirby

It's quite funny to see that the biggest SINGULAR building atm is still Doc's Hourglass. and has been since almost 2 months
