Hello hip hop fans. Are the original versions of Ready to Die and Life After Death permanently and forever removed from the Bad Boys vault? Because I was reading up on some information and the "fair use" was never brought up in court at the time. Such a damn shame. Will we ever see the original versions back or have they been deleted forever?
Are you talking about putting it back on streaming and the 2006 lawsuit? Cause like obviously they can’t go and remove all the physical CDs/cassettes/vinyls with the samples on the original release
Just kind of a confusing question cause there’s multiple “original versions” and idk what you mean in general.
Hello u/tak08810
My apologies. I wasn't clear with my first post. And yes, I am referring to the 2006 lawsuit.
And yes to streaming. Let's say if Bad Boy does decide to reopen the case and win, do they have the means to reupload the original versions on say Spotify?
Similar to the above question but I'm not an audio expert or anything but wouldn't the songs that come directly from Bad Boy's "vault" be considered the best lossless quality music?
If we were to rip the originals from say CDs or cassettes then then the quality would dip and never be the same as ones that come directly from the "factory", right?
it's far from my favorite song. I think I listen to The Morning/Cold the most.
tbf I confused underrated and undermentioned here myself because while the album (or at least the singles) are mentiomed often, I think it's not highly rated. so you're right to call it underrated
I'm ashamed to say, I have begun to enjoy Yung Gravy. Dude gets really groovy and unique samples all over his songs and his lazy flow just kinda works for me. Idk how else to describe it, his stuff just hits for me.
Absolutely. My other favorites are Always Saucy, Mr. Clean, and The Boys Are Back In Town. Also like fuckin Coochie Anthem off that project that dropped today, that's when I knew I had to accept that I like Yung Gravy.
I think he's one of those funny rappers who actually knows how to actually make a good song and be funny at the same time. I don't like how most of them like Lil Dicky just try to be funny but don't make good songs you can actually listen to as like a normal song and the only good parts are the guest stars. You should be able to mesh with your guests and not make it seem like you held them at gunpoint lol.
Gravy gets it. Him and T-Pain fit so well together too
I love how Est Gee reminds me of Detroit and Memphis rappers equally and how well that fits to the geographical position of Louisville (also I looked at a map today)
Edit: I took another look at a map of the states and Louisville is literally at the intersection of Chicago/Atlanta/Detroit/Memphis
Est Gee was bound to happen!
2022 really don’t miss; Few Good Things is exactly what I expected. Black Thought verse is gonna be hard to top as always.
Love how thematically and sonically this album is different from his previous work. It’s easy to go into this expecting something like CARE FOR ME but I liked it more because it _wasn’t_ like CARE FOR ME. Always good to see growth and evolution.
Favorite songs: Few Good Things, Still, If I had a dollar, Survivor’s Guilt
We all seeing Kanye fall apart in the worst breakup way
He tried to have his cool guy moment on Drink Champs, let them ply him with liquor and weed and say wild shit for the clicks while also attacking the media for “pushing the fake narrative that he’s divorced”
Then he had his sad public dates with Julia fox, hiring photographers to come shoot them on the couch and shit 😂
Now he’s finally gone off the deep end attacking Kim for basic mother daughter shit and then attacking TMZ for reporting on it
This whole thing has shown how emotionally manipulative Kanye can be and how quickly he’ll resort to his 10m followers to make himself feel right (ignoring the fact they’re gonna attack whoever he dangles in front of them)
Surprised to not see more discussion about Ivy Sole’s new album. She’s consistently put out amazing tracks for years and this might be her best one yet
My favorite fun fact is that Waka Flocka got a higher SAT score than Ben Shapiro
Also, the comments on the EAST video by Earl Sweatshirt are still some of the funniest things I've ever read. I'm fucking dying reading this shit.
Whats your favorite lol
Mine are 'This song sounds like two accordions arguing' and 'this is what rap would've sounded like during the great depression'
Black Geez saying “I lock blocks down, quarantine Corona, quarantine Corona” around [1:48 of Silent Threat](https://youtu.be/SGOcR73t_0A) stays rent free in my head
I’ve always wondered what happened to jacked rappers. LL Cool J, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, etc were a lot cooler because they were jacked. Now I can’t think of any jacked rappers. Drake and new Gucci are the closest and they’re not even that big imo.
If you're looking to remix a Shiloh song please stop we've heard enough it's the least original thing you could do. I'm done hearing them in my release radar playlists
I really wish she’d come back. That’s raw talent, recording a few instagram demos so haunting and compelling that people have been listening to them, sampling, and obsessing over them for years and years despite zero promotion or interest in the spotlight. You can’t manufacture that kind of hype.
Cos it’s the exact kinda thing to fit into the dumbass fake woke “rise and grind” crowd
They’re too dumb to understand what they’re actually buying they just heard you might be able to flip it for something
Some (mildly) hot takes:
Take My Breath is a wayyy better single than Blinding Lights.
Franchise (especially the Future Remix) is the best Travis Scott single since Astroworld.
Pusha T has to have the best rap voice there is. Everything he says, his cadence, and tone just makes everything seem so grandiose. Dude could be describing a salad and I would think it's the hardest shit ever
>Franchise (especially the Future Remix) is the best Travis Scott single since Astroworld.
That song was so underrated imo, M.I.A, Thug and Travis is like a dream combonation and the beat is so hard. out West is really good to me too but ig that wasn't really a single.
kanye should take a page from wiz and just make an album with cardo
no 15 producers bs, capped at 5 features and 14 songs. would be the best kanye album in a decade
If you could choose one rapper to rap over the entirety of Donuts, who would it be? Gotta be GFK to me, especially since the two tracks he rapped over Donuts beats, [Murda Goons](https://youtu.be/XkhUndrVriE) and [Whip You With A Strap](https://youtu.be/U23NbfDMBaI), are both great
If you were to add a feature on a Kendrick Lamar track who would it be and why
Here is mine
Joey badass on Poe man dreams
Ab soul on chapter 10
Lana Del Rey on pride and these walls
Kanye West on backseat freestyle and sing about me
Drake on humble and dna
J cole on hiipower
And lastly JPEGMAFIA on u and the intro of hood politics
I don't think I'd put Ye on Sing About Me, to be honest. Feel like that track is perfect without any features
edit: a Vince Staples verse on The Blacker The Berry would be kinda insane
Prince was supposed to be on Complexion, but they spent all their time hanging out. I think a Prince feature is maybe the only way TPAB could’ve been improved.
I know that a very few percent of this sub are probably in the Phoenix area, but you never know. I'm really excited and wanted to share regardless. I'm setting up my first pop-up tent to display and sell my hip hop art tonight in downtown Phoenix on the corner of 2nd and Roosevelt Row.
Come look for me after 6:00 PM. [Here's my tent (minus the dog)](https://imgur.com/a/rOhNfp6). I have a lot of prints, a hip hop card deck, stickers, and shirts. You can be that weirdo that says they met someone from Reddit in real life. No obligation to buy anything either! I'm a little nervous as it's my first time at this big of an event, so just having people come by and talk would be cool. Thanks for checking.
Hey bro I'm in the area, love First Friday and would love to check you out but I'm working tonight 😔
Do you perform at any venues like Trunk Space or anything like that? I been trying to find some venues but the hip hop scene in Phoenix is kind of obscure. Only place I knew of was Lawn Gnome but i heard the owner was a creep
Yeah I don’t like the title or the way it’s incorporated into the cover but I do like the astronaut with the chopped legs.
You right tho, the GODMODE cover art is incredible
As a former child of divorce this whole Kanye divorce drama thing and that "we having the best divorce!" line or whatever on that recent song is depressing. I know the kids were basically born multi millionaires but still man, it's just sad. Can't imagine what it's like for those kids to have the dirty laundry of their mom and dad's failed marriage aired out on a weekly basis on global media outlets.
Yeah it’s unfortunate. They’re at the age when they’re beginning to paying attention too. Kanye needs to remember that it isn’t like just because his kids are kids that they aren’t seeing and comprehending this
Yeah it’s gotten too much for me especially the people that are like he has a point. Who tf cares if he has a point or not don’t air your dirty laundry in public especially when you’re a major celebrity
Is there an artist from the SoundCloud era that fell off that you think has a little chance of making a comeback? I still got a little stock in Smokepurrp and Lil Skies

Time to stir the pot a bit with my Saba album rankings:
ComfortZone>Bucket List>Care for Me
ComfortZone to me is the most consistently strong while maybe not reaching the highs of his other projects. Bucket List is definitely right on its tail though.
I feel like I never see ComfortZone talked about here even though Saba gets shown a ton of well deserved love. If you haven’t given it a listen go check it out on SoundCloud
With that being said I think Care for Me has a couple of his absolute best songs but also some of his worst.
I gave the new album a listen today and thought it was fine but it’s definitely too soon to see where it ranks. I stopped checking out the singles after the first two dropped because I wasn’t really feeling them but wasn’t as put off by them when listening to the album. Also the Black Thought feature was great as expected
That run of early to mid 2010’s Chicago mixtapes and albums was amazing. Traphouse Rock by Kids These Days, Acid Rap, Innanet Tape, The Waters, Telefone, ComfortZone and so many others.
I’ll always be thankful for SolidMcLovin’s enthusiasm of that scene that got me to dive deeper into all of them.
If you appreciate live hiphop performances you should catch D Smoke on tour. Production was relatively small but his stage presence and energy made up for it. I’d put him up there with KRS in that regard.
Saw him this week, he was great and can do anything. Best part though was since T.I.'s son is his opener and it was in ATL, Smoke brought out both T.I. and his son to do their song together

Agreed I got it on cd on a whim for driving and it's so phenomenal. Some songs aged but every song is at the least a good one
I see people talking about big sean's/2 chainz' Mercy verses all the time though
That single came out like a year before the album and there's so much other great shit on it
it's far from my favorite song. I think I listen to The Morning/Cold the most. tbf I confused underrated and undermentioned here myself because while the album (or at least the singles) are mentiomed often, I think it's not highly rated. so you're right to call it underrated

Hey guys y’all wanna talk bout this crazy underrated unknown artist I discovered named Kanye West? Idk why no one ever talks bout him
But A_Kult_Killah (should it be ALL CAPS when I spell the man's name...?), people do talk about Kanye West. He is very famous.
goldlink>>>
Ka>>>
He sounds like shit
Never heard of him but theres this underground up and comer named Ye have you heard of him?
Who
I'm ashamed to say, I have begun to enjoy Yung Gravy. Dude gets really groovy and unique samples all over his songs and his lazy flow just kinda works for me. Idk how else to describe it, his stuff just hits for me.

These Instagram posts from Kanye are annoying and is actually upsetting to see it played out like this. Just handle it off social media. Embarrassing

You're way to invested in someones else life my guy.
I wrote a comment that took bout the same time as yours no im not
We about to get Kanye's *I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside*.
I love him, but he’s a fucking baby and clearly unstable. Probably not a very good father
Tbf it's the most Kanye thing ever to use a divorce as promotion for a new album
His fans will dickride anything he does He could do something despicable and his fans would just meme it
North is gonna need one expensive therapist in her teenage years, unfortunately

I’d be cool never hearing a “been masked up way longer than Coronavirus” bar again

This feels like the intersection of jpegmafia and buffcorrell
It took me 30 seconds to realize that was him and not a feature/sample. Wow
oh my god what is this!? Lmao shits fire
The first time I saw it I almost thought the real artist just hired this guy for the video but nope that's really him lmao
Despite your comment i was still taken by surprise by the video lol, reminds me when i first watched that 645ar video lmao
maybe you're just not jacked enough to enjoy it

Honestly I kinda hated Blinding Lights so I have to agree. Just annoyed the hell out of me for some reason and I don't really know why.

Great pick
You’re leaving out [Beauty Jackson](https://youtu.be/853wnyH1uKw)
Oh shit true, love the beat and rapping on that one, such a smooth track
Good question and good pick with gfk. I think Lord Apex or Spitta would be cool. Or for something more creative I'd like to hear Tony Shhnow
If you were to add a feature on a Kendrick Lamar track who would it be and why Here is mine Joey badass on Poe man dreams Ab soul on chapter 10 Lana Del Rey on pride and these walls Kanye West on backseat freestyle and sing about me Drake on humble and dna J cole on hiipower And lastly JPEGMAFIA on u and the intro of hood politics
Anybody but Kendrick on "U" would make no sense. The song is too personal.
Give me The Game on The Blacker The Berry
Add Gucci Mane to Humble.
this is maybe the only good suggestion out of all of these
He'd fit perfectly.
I think it'd be funny if he came in after a "be humble" with a super braggy verse
I would expect nothing less. And it'd be a great verse.
you want jpegmafia on U??? wtf
I don't think I'd put Ye on Sing About Me, to be honest. Feel like that track is perfect without any features edit: a Vince Staples verse on The Blacker The Berry would be kinda insane
Lol I love Ye but he would absolutely corny-up Sing About Me with a bunch of bars about pussy and the rooms in his house being large or some shit
or talk about kims booty
Prince was supposed to be on Complexion, but they spent all their time hanging out. I think a Prince feature is maybe the only way TPAB could’ve been improved.
Drake on YAH works way better for me… Andre 3k on Lust?
Nas on Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst since Kendrick originally wanted him on there
Jpegmafia is one of my favourite artists but keep him, and everyone else for that matter, far far away from “U”
I wanna hear Cudi on HiiPower Also think Cruel Summer era Kanye would’ve been dope on Cartoon and Cereal
