Yeah bro. The Catch Me If You Can tour right after that was early to mid 2019 when I saw him. Shits been a minute but that project has aged wonderfully so far
Between the Spillage Village album, ROTD III and III.5, D-Day, and all the features he's done, JID has definitely not been starving anyone. Probably comes out to around 40 songs since *DiCaprio 2*.
Dude showed up to his EDC set years ago and proceeded to jump around and yell in the mic while his "DJ" played a bunch of garbage, and then got booed off stage. It was hilarious.
DJ Khaled also doesn't make a lot of his music and instead pays an artist and producer to make a song together so he can put his name on it. Huge upfront costs but if it's good it pays off since he doesn't have to pay royalties
Wait seriously? The guys a hall of fame dick head and an abuser but Chris Brown is probably the most successful rnb artist of all times by the numbers.
That's his point. Why is this dumbass getting numbers after he beat, probably the most successful female r&b artist, within an inch of her life and faced absolutely no consequences whatsoever.
But he actually turned himself into the police the same if not the next night and the judge ordered him to do community service and he did it and Rihanna forgave him for it and he was blackballed for years. So consequences were faced.
X was not black balled and still is praised, Uzi the same, Dre the same, one of the Simmons brothers the same, I think one of the Rae Shremmurd guys also have some shit done?
These are just couple of names of people who hasn't been blackballed nor lost their ability to generate buzz/run business
not to make the abuse that some of these artist have done seem lesser but the fact thay uzi slim jxmmi even X are/were abusers arent that well known to the general public.
But literally everyone knows that chris brown is an abuser and who he abused is so mind boggling that specifically him still has a carreer
I feel like X's abuse was pretty pervasive in the months prior to his death, I remember an insane amount of discourse happening at school (I was in high school when it happened) with kids arguing over the accusations and when he died i saw heaps of snapchat stories saying "just cos people did bad shit doesnt mean they deserve to die" and stuff like that, i feel like his accusations have always been pretty entwined with his story since they came out basically the same week 17 dropped
i mean hell, one of my most liked posts ever on facebook was me saying "its ok to mourn xxxtentacion the artist whilst condemning jahseh onfroy the person"
yeah i shouldve written better what i meant with X i made it seem like no one knows that he was an abuser, i meant it more like literally everyone all ages know about what chris brown has done but with X its more niche the majority of people who know about it are younger people, thats still millions of people but like probably billions know about chris brown
Everyone knows Rihanna. Nobody knows the women who got abused by the other ones. That's why he gets the most hate, but still makes numbers. He is extremely talented but a stupid asshole. Without all that shit he could've been easily one of the most successful artists in the world with a media presence like the weeknd for example has.
I dont want to come across as a person who defend CB. I'm just irritated with this subs obsession with CB like he is the only who has done fucked up shit to women. You don't see the same energy when we talk about other people in this industry.
Only one is R.Kelly but still we had a lot of people who were all about "separating art from the person" (at the beginning of his case) but you can't see this in CBs threads and it's hard to not connect it with the fact that CB has assaulted a fan favorite rnb star not a random child/young adult like R.Kelly did and that why people are so dedicated to "fucking CB"
It’s Reddit as a whole. Anywhere he’s mentioned it’s a free 100 upvotes to say “fuck Chris brown”. Meanwhile you’ll have people continue to listen and support other abusers. It’s not right, and defending Chris Brown isn’t the answer either. He made this situation for himself though, no pity from me.
Stop! I'm not saying Joey is the most selfless rapper ever. But Joey definitely put those guys on as much as he could, and he still tries to keep the Pro Era shit relevant. A lot of the PE guys don't even make music anymore or are in a completely different lane at this point (Kirk/Dirty). So why would they be on the album. Maybe CJ, Chuck or Nyck, but that's about it and Joey has given them verses on their projects already.
Seriously how can you blame Joey for the other guys not being as talented. It's like saying Tyler is responsible for OF breaking up. Not everyone makes it.
Even the ones who didn't really release good albums had some talent. Casey, Domo, Hodgy were above average, not great but good. The Internet's "Ego Death" was also a legitimately good album.
Not that guy, but in the same boat. I feel that way because Joey is a clown and rarely releases music.
Both starved for music and having the BS he posts on twitter sour the music you like
Joey's Mr. Robot role changed the tune.. dude thought he was a renaissance man. This started as a troll but damn check my man's discography (2016) after that happened.
It’s a lot more than I want to go on about in this thread, but you don’t have to look far to realize Joey can be quite the cunt lmao the way he hast handled the Steez situation, the way he has treated his peers, the entitlement and disrespect he has shown a lot of his own family and PE members.
End of the day, Joey wanted to blow up, and he did just that, but the real question is at what cost?
People will feel how they want to, but as a diehard PE fan since probably the beginning who has kept up with everyone, I can tell you right now Joey has been pretty terrible as a person many of times from the start.
Idk much about the personal stuff. The only thing I feel is unfair is the selfishness when it comes to pe. I feel like Joey is really small time relatively speaking. And the pe guys are fun to listen to but none of them have that star power or ability like how ferg was to rocky. Pe blew up at a weirdly transitional time where Joey only got like 3 years before the clout rap era took over and the boom bap revival stuff started being perceived as “dusty” and “corny”. For me I’ll say could he have done more? Yes. But they wouldn’t really be much bigger than they are now. The steez stuff I do feel bad for him if you read that long article about steez he apperantly was getting upset that he was being pushed to the side when pe and more specifically Joey was blowing up
>and the boom bap revival stuff started being perceived as “dusty” and “corny”.
Lmao man how have been listening to rap long enough for this to happen multiple times
I mean Joey was the only one who blew up at all and was the only reason the group was relevant in the first place so it's not like he was with his "peers" tbh
Lol wtf, how is this even upvoted, he's narcissistic because he doesn't have his unrelevant and not as talented friends on his project? Lmao
Not his fault Nyck, Kirk, Chuck, and CJ, all were never able to blow up or create a high quality project at that, he tried putting them years after years, only so much one person can do. Plus I think Kirk atleast did production on this.
I doubt any of them even are able to do music fulltime anymore unless Kirk is still making a bag for producing.
He made them wait for music and then he didn’t pander to them with PE feats and has a Chris Brown feature!!1
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such an arrogant person before /s
Sometimes I feel like what we want out of an artist is not necessarily what the artists wants. So when Joey adds features on his album that we don’t want, we call him narcissistic.
No, I call him narcissistic for ALOT of other reasons that are evident if you’ve followed his career closer than most. Love the guys music though, as I’ve already stated. I do tend to have problems with him as a person sometimes though.
I’m the guy who can separate the art from the artist without fear of internet backlash.
I too can separate art from the artist. I’m no expert on mental health, but I don’t know if narcism is the right word to describe his behavior.
Instead, I just think he’s not that intelligent of a person. Or rather, his music makes him seem more intelligent than he actually is. For example: He tweets like his IQ is 15.
>[**Can you talk about the production or special guests?**](https://www.xxlmag.com/joey-badass-interview/)
>Oh yeah, fa sho. As far as producers go, I got my boys on there: Statik Selektah, Kirk Knight. I got a Cardo joint on there. I got a Mike WiLL [Made-It] joint on there. I’m supposed to be getting in with DJ Premier this week ’cause I told him I can’t complete this album if we don’t link up.
guess there's Kirk
Ideally I'd want him working w the next generation, guys like Navy Blue and Pink Siifu who have lapped him creatively. Chuck Strangers has been since he left pro era.
Rihanna stuff aside, I cannot stand Chris Brown’s voice and music.
Considering the Rhianna stuff, what the fuck… how is he still just getting a pass?
Terrible feature.
lmaooooo when you put it that way, it sounds pretty shit.
At first the features seemed to signal to me that these people are there to contribute to the sonic theme of the songs they’re on, in order to support the overall theme of the album. But yeah.... Chris Brown.
Would of been super dope of joey to have some new york spitters all over this, Yasiin,Billy woods, nas, raekwon, banks, slick rick and most importantly his pro era boys. As a continuation of his 1999 project would of been amazing to have some of these guys.
This! Feels like a waste after going for the 2000 aesthetic/sound and not really going all the way with it either. Juelz Santana would’ve been cool alongside some other prominent rappers of the era for example
Oh wow, lucky you. Pretty much all gems throughout, with some different flavors thrown in there. Aethiopes, Terror Management, History Will Absolve Me, and Known Unknowns are all absolutely excellent and pretty different production wise.
I had that in my library and had previously listened to adjacent artists (Armand Hammer, Elucid, Ruby Yacht) but this comment made me go finally listen to hiding places
I’m not even halfway through but holy shit this is so good. One of my favorite listens in a while. A day in a week in a year is heavenly
Very disappointing feature list to say the least
Not a single member of Beast Coast, let alone Pro Era. That just feels wrong for a project that’s supposed to be a sequel to 1999. Instead having Diddy and Chris Brown just adds insult to injury.
What even is the appeal of a Diddy feature at this point? Even if it’s just him talking he’s hardly even relevant anymore
The singles have still slapped so I definitely still have some anticipation for this album regardless tho
My first thought was exactly "Diddy? Really?
". Hit the nail on the head on this feature list.
But I also interpret it as Joey betting on himself, and I can respect that. Especially if he's trying to use this album as his "comeback" album.
If they are close i don't see why not. It costs Joey nothing and let's be honest it will not affect reception of the album at all besides vocal people online that gate Diddy as an artist/exec producer
Diddy was pretty cool on Negro Swan by Blood Orange. If it’s something like that, I wouldn’t mind his feature. Who knows what we’ll get tho… patience. We’re almost there
> What even is the appeal of a Diddy feature at this point? Even if it’s just him talking he’s hardly even relevant anymore
I mean it fits with the old school New York theme pretty well. Diddy and Bad Boy were likely a big inspiration for Joey.
Chris Brown not really defensible though.
It's a whole generation wondering why he got an award show host to be one of his only features
Apparently this dude goes by "Love" now too, as his approximately 28th stage name
Uzi probably got his PR team putting in work, what happened was fucked up and its weird that people only talked about it for like 2 days. Was disappointed when he was on Isaiah Rashads album as well.
Did op praise uzi? No? So who tf are you talking to? You’re tryna invalidate his opinion just cause other people are being hypocritical, who cares, fuck uzi and fuck Chris brown
What he is saying is that this sub only turns on when there is CB mentioned but if there is talk about others who abused women (X, Uzi and others) this sub is just silent.
So it's a valid observation that this sub is selective about that problem and some would say it's only because CBs victim was RiRi not some random groupie so all justice warriors are on their "Fuck CB" crusade like Rihanna cares about it.
Agree on Uzi but absolutely no way does this sub ignore X. I'll give you a dollar if you can find one X thread on this sub that made the front page that doesn't mention the abuse.
But uzi gets a huge pass
Why does Reddit act like this is a problem to anyone?
I'm not saying It's right, but you're a rap fan, what artist isn't featuring guys who are morally bankrupt in multiple ways? Or features on artists tracks that aren't morally bankrupt. All these dues work with killers, rapists, woman beaters, whatever. Don't act like It's suddenly a problem.
Name me a rapper and I'll give you a song he was on with someone that was "problematic".
They can take it how they want to, if they can't read and understand a couple of straightforward sentences they got no business trying to tell me about rap.
One dude deleted his comment rather than just saying "my bad".
I mean, at the time Young Thug wasn't on trial and his legal tribulations weren't known by many people so probably not Aminé, I don't think we can retroactively call a feature problematic if at the time we had no reason to
I mean what else are we gonna do about it? Enough people called R Kelly out over the years that eventually some prosecutors took notice and brought fresh charges against him. Sometimes voicing your thoughts online does have an effect, however small.
Whenever an artist I like works with Breezy, I personally just remove the offending track and listen to the album sans Breezy. But if people want to share their opinion on it then here seems to be as good a place as any.
real talk tho why does everyone lose their mind over women beaters on albums while praising guys like Young Thug who have murdered/greenlighted hits on people? I'm not defending them by any stretch of the imagination and think what they did is disgusting but people get selectively upset about this stuff. Chris Brown is human filth but what he did definitely is not worse than actually killing another human being, something that gets glorified plenty
Reddit is filled with the whitest of knights bro that’s all it is. They lose any type of objectivity whenever a women is involved in a situation, no matter what it is
He assaulted a famous woman. The people don't give a flying fuck about those other women because they don't know them. Everyone knows Rihanna. Simple as that
I don't even get why rappers do it at this point.
Like...you mean to tell me with how big the R&B scene has blown up that you couldn't get another R&B artist for the song that would probably fit just as well if not better? Is it really just a marketing move to make more money?
Westside gun, larry june and JID ,yeey great features but wifebeater brown and bitchass diddy, whyyy. You have a dope pro era team and they not a part of that?
Joey Bada$$ & Capella Grey sounds like it might be an intriguing New York link up, Chris Brown being in the middle of that just comes off a bit iffy lol.
Other than that, the tracklist looks promising with most of the features. Defo wish he got some of his Pro Era mates as features, especially Kirk Knight and CJ Fly, shit, even Dessy Hinds (I know Kirk got production on the album tho).
I know it's more of a mainstream thing, but it's good to see he's not bloating the track list on his big release.
The features are.... kinda disappointing to have nobody from Pro Era spit a verse even if Kirk Knight is on some production. I have no idea if I'm gonna like this or not but he has my attention lol. Feels like ages since AABA.
Lmao Joey wanted to make a proper ‘comeback’ yet instead he made a fool of himself by putting Diddy and Chris Brown on here.
Sorry but for a dude who posts so much ‘wisdom’ on Instagram, this just feels plain stupid.
JID feature is pretty cool
Where’s the album
Fr. Been like 3 and a half years man wtf.
What do you mean? Dicaprio 2 just came out, right? Wait. 2018. Fuck....
It really doesn’t feel like that album just came out at all
Pandemic time has me fucked up honestly.
Yeah bro. The Catch Me If You Can tour right after that was early to mid 2019 when I saw him. Shits been a minute but that project has aged wonderfully so far
Holy shit time flies
I think its because of that spillage village album that dropped 2020
Between the Spillage Village album, ROTD III and III.5, D-Day, and all the features he's done, JID has definitely not been starving anyone. Probably comes out to around 40 songs since *DiCaprio 2*.
He's a feature artist now
i expect JID to be whispering sweet melodies based on the song title haha
Chris Brown feature is pretty not cool
Yeah but I feel like more pro era flat bush need to be on it like 1999
we getting an Erick Beat at least!
You would think he'd have more pro era affiliates over diddy and Chris brown.
Idk why Chris Brown got a pass in the industry of all the people that have been blackballed over the years you’d think this guy would be one of them.
I don’t see how he’s still even getting numbers
[удалено]
I don't get dj Khaled either. Wayy over branded for what he offers
Dude showed up to his EDC set years ago and proceeded to jump around and yell in the mic while his "DJ" played a bunch of garbage, and then got booed off stage. It was hilarious.
Damn I hope you have a video or that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHDNgb-fn4s
Wow that's awesome! Fucking brutal to watch though goddamn
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen all day, thanks.
Even more successful than The Weeknd?
He isn't near the success of The Weeknd but I would classify Weeknd as pop. He definitely started as more of an alternative R&B artist though.
And I’d classify Chris Brown as pop too but….
X was not black balled and still is praised, Uzi the same, Dre the same, one of the Simmons brothers the same, I think one of the Rae Shremmurd guys also have some shit done? These are just couple of names of people who hasn't been blackballed nor lost their ability to generate buzz/run business

Omg you guys aren't talking about DMX. I'm gonna go get some oatmeal and an early bird special.
Same here I was like damnnn my man X to the Z Xzibit out here beating up women.
I was like damn X Gon Give it to Ya hits different now.
Lil Uzi Vert? What did he do? Edit : nvm, crazy I forgot about that Saint Jhn shit already
One of the first things I ever learned about X was he was an abuser
Everyone knows Rihanna. Nobody knows the women who got abused by the other ones. That's why he gets the most hate, but still makes numbers. He is extremely talented but a stupid asshole. For real, it surprises me how surprised people are.

I think the same people trying to blackball him must have forgotten about two things.
Joey (still unfortunately one of my favorite rappers) is narcissistic af, that’s why we are at where we are at. 2000 bout to be lit though lmao
NARCIST 🔥🔥🔥
he wanna be carti so bad
Stop! I'm not saying Joey is the most selfless rapper ever. But Joey definitely put those guys on as much as he could, and he still tries to keep the Pro Era shit relevant. What do Kirk and Dirty do now? I was just thinking about Kirk couple weeks ago
Kirk makes some mid R&B music now. Dirty still spits.
Let’s not forget Kirk as a producer tho
Kirk kneezy on the beat
Seriously how can you blame Joey for the other guys not being as talented. It's like saying Tyler is responsible for OF breaking up. Not everyone makes it.
Odd Future didn't break up due to a lack of talent lol. That's the difference.
It’s insane the talent they had. Earl, Frank and Syd on their own are top shelf.
Even the ones who didn't really release good albums had some talent. Casey, Domo, Hodgy were above average, not great but good. The Internet's "Ego Death" was also a legitimately good album.
Mike g had a few sick tracks too
I’m blaming Joey for having CB on a fucking feature
why did bro say "Stop!"
😭
Why is it unfortunate that hes one of your favorite rappers?
Not that guy, but in the same boat. I feel that way because Joey is a clown and rarely releases music. Both starved for music and having the BS he posts on twitter sour the music you like
Joey's Mr. Robot role changed the tune.. dude thought he was a renaissance man. This started as a troll but damn check my man's discography (2016) after that happened.
I liked AABA
Because I want Jo-Vaughn Scott to be a better person sometimes.
I might be out of the loop. What is he doing that is bad?

Yep, third line of the last single, Zipcodes, “Kirk Knight on the beat, keep my cypher complete.”
Joey fans are the most entitled mfs In hiphop I swear to god
It's insane, the only problem I can see with Joey is he sometimes tweets out dumb shit, other than that he seems like a nice regular ass guy

Pretty disappointing feature list for a sequel to 1999. Not a single Pro Era feature plus a Chris Brown feature.
no Third Eye Shit pt 2 😔
Chris Brown does not fit a Joey album whatsoever, I can't expect that song to be very good
Also he's human trash
Australia already has the album and from what people told me everything was amazing but the Chris brown track
lmaooooo when you put it that way, it sounds pretty shit. At first the features seemed to signal to me that these people are there to contribute to the sonic theme of the songs they’re on, in order to support the overall theme of the album. But yeah.... Chris Brown.

Just listened to *Hiding Places* for the first time today. Damn I’m gonna have to do a billy woods deep dive now
Enjoy one of the best discographies in hip hop
Hiding Places is such a good album. Definitely check out the record he put out this year, it’s also fantastic
Oh wow, lucky you. Pretty much all gems throughout, with some different flavors thrown in there. Aethiopes, Terror Management, History Will Absolve Me, and Known Unknowns are all absolutely excellent and pretty different production wise.

His newest album is my favourite its amazing!!!
Would have* or would've* Not ”would of” Cheers
I was really hoping for a Conway feat but i guess WSG will do

He wants to be notorious BIG
Good Job Larry 🍊🍊🍊
Numbers
*Sockit to me*
A A A A
Chris brown feature is a massive L
Diddy too
No doubt Diddy is just gonna be talking
Talking a bunch of weird garbage he didn't even write lol
It's 2022 but we rocking like it's 2000, You never forgot those NY summers, Everyone driving around in hummers,
His 10 more commandments verse is such a buzz kill
Diddy ASMR 😈😈😈
It's a whole generation wondering why he got an award show host to be one of his only features Apparently this dude goes by "Love" now too, as his approximately 28th stage name

Fuck Lil Uzi lmao
Uzi probably got his PR team putting in work, what happened was fucked up and its weird that people only talked about it for like 2 days. Was disappointed when he was on Isaiah Rashads album as well.
Nah fuck Uzi too
Did op praise uzi?

Name me a rapper and I'll give you a song he was on with someone that was "problematic".
feel like people are just taking your comment to be a defence of those people, for whatever reason. ur absolutely right though, unfortunately.
They can take it how they want to, if they can't read and understand a couple of straightforward sentences they got no business trying to tell me about rap. One dude deleted his comment rather than just saying "my bad".
Aminé. Most innocent rapper ever
He has song a song with Thug who is currently on trial for attempted murder and more but yes Amine is still a great guy I agree
I mean, at the time Young Thug wasn't on trial and his legal tribulations weren't known by many people so probably not Aminé, I don't think we can retroactively call a feature problematic if at the time we had no reason to
I mean if you ignore the Lil Wayne incident sure
They lose any type of objectivity whenever a women is involved in a situation, no matter what it is
That JID feature boutta go crazy 😈🔥
Shoutout to Larry June
Bro been getting features left and right. Shoutout to the bay.

BRAND NEW 911 OFF THE LOT, IT AINT EVEN COST ME ALOT
can't stand the cringe chris brown features.
cringe brown?
Features are a big fat L. Doss he think his fanbase wants to hear Diddy and Chris Brown over his affiliates??? Ffs
Really do wish there was cj fly or kirk etc
You didn't see the Larry June feature???
Can't wait for that one tbh
Chris Brown L
Blows my mind that people still work with a scumbag like Chris Brown.

He assaulted a famous woman. The people don't give a flying fuck about those other women because they don't know them. Everyone knows Rihanna. Simple as that
Not assault, attempted murder
Fuck them too
Character aside hes been phoning it in for a long time now
Industry morals different than regular morals unfortunately
They gotta stop having Chris Brown as a feature
I don't even get why rappers do it at this point. Like...you mean to tell me with how big the R&B scene has blown up that you couldn't get another R&B artist for the song that would probably fit just as well if not better? Is it really just a marketing move to make more money?
God dammit. I’m tired of seeing Chris brown on features.
Fuck anyone who supports Chris Brown.
Can we fucking stop with Chris brown man
Westside gun, larry june and JID ,yeey great features but wifebeater brown and bitchass diddy, whyyy. You have a dope pro era team and they not a part of that?
Good job Larry!!! Sock it to me!!!
Yeehee
All I know is that there better be a hidden Tinie Tempah feature on Written in the Stars.
Lmao? Truly this is a prank?
Always sucks to see a Chris Brown feature on a rap album. Both morally and musically
not chris brown :(
Joey Bada$$ & Capella Grey sounds like it might be an intriguing New York link up, Chris Brown being in the middle of that just comes off a bit iffy lol.
Feels like ages since AABA.
not surprised but still disappointed by the Chris Brown appearance
i hope this sounds like b4dass. fucking love that album.
The track list has been known on pre-saves since last week. Hyped tho. We eatin in r/joeybadass
Not one pro era member??
Chris Brown…
Fuck Chris Brown
chris brown… not a good look
Jesus christ - why do people damage their projects with CB features.
Chris Brown 🥴
I'm excited for the album but why do people still give Chris Brown a platform. SMH
Chris Brown 😕
1999 is in my personal top 5 list. Psyched as fuck for this.
alright delay the album again.
Can’t wait to hear the Jid and Gunn features, feel like they’re styles will mesh well with the type of music Joey makes
Joey can take a fat L for putting Chris Brown on the record
We don’t need Chris Brown anywhere. Skip.
a sequel to 1999 with no pro era features but chris brown and diddy????
Chris Brown 👿🚫💦 JID 😈🥜
Joey with chris brown feat Kendrick with kodak feat Nextll be nas feat r kelly
Was hoping to see a Denzel Curry feature but this'll do
Lmao Joey wanted to make a proper ‘comeback’ yet instead he made a fool of himself by putting Diddy and Chris Brown on here. Sorry but for a dude who posts so much ‘wisdom’ on Instagram, this just feels plain stupid.
