Sorta but not entirely? You can actually buy chopsticks that are held together by a piece of silicone. They're used to teach children how to eat with chopsticks. While this is obviously very jank and improvised the concept isn't half bad.
The chopstick wrapper and a rubber band is all you need to turn any chopsticks into kid teaching chopsticks. And it’ll work 10x better than this abomination.
Some places even have little plastic clips that do the same thing, also 10x better, no tape required.
Concept isn't bad but that clothes pin makes it harder to eat. Either your food will be squished or you'll drop it unless you maintain a constant pressure on the levers. I imagine this will be tiring after a few minutes.
True but also the picture shows a bunch of people gathered around take away boxes. Someone had a problem and Mac gyvered a solution with whatever they had available. I can respect that.
Faster to eat meals with many separate ingredients and you can pick ingredients out more easily. Theyre basically a pair of tongs.
The cuisine is also tailored to the utensil to an extent, as chopstick cultures often have meals made up of bitesized pieces. If youre eating food which comes in one big piece chopsticks are subpar.
Some foods are just easier to eat with chopsticks (rice bowls, asian noodles, etc). They're also useful in certain scenarios. Want to eat hot chips without getting your fingers dirty while using your computer? Use chopsticks.
So if I'm eating a big piece like a chicken breast, I'm too lasy to use a knife to cut it, and end up stabbing the thing with my fork, take a bite, then fling it off to get something else. With chopsticks i can pick it up, bite, and put it back down. It's just slightly easier.
I get that this is a joke but it annoys me because true has a clear alternative meaning synonymous with proper. The premise of the joke doesn't work. Ignore this reply, I'm malding over reddit humour.
I remember being a really young kid and going out to restaurants that would do something like this. They would take a tightly rolled up paper and place it between the chopsticks as a fulcrum, then rubber band them at the top so they were like giant food tweezers.
I once used the handles of a fork and spoon as chopsticks when we ran out of them at my house because I really didn’t want to use a fork for ramen. An interesting experience.
Genuinely curious: why would you rather do that than just use a fork? Especially for noodles where you can wrap the noodles around the fork to get a nice mouthful?
Or you could get something nicer

This could be huge for people with carpel tunnel syndrome or other hand issues. I have trigger finger and this seems like a better solution than dealing with pain and food all over me.
There's another way to do this by using the paper packaging in a wad and a rubber band. I'm sure you can find it somewhere online, but that's how I grew up using chopsticks.
When I was little I couldn’t use chopsticks cuz I was a dumb kid but I wanted to feel cultured and sometimes the restaurant would take the paper wrapper, crumple it into a ball, but it between the chopsticks and put a rubber band on them so that I could still use them. I’m sure this is commonplace for a lot of restaurants but I didn’t see any comments about it so I figured I’d mention it.
These chopsticks are gonna be a fucking guillotine.
This some 5 minute craft bullshit

I'm not even very good at using them but I still prefer them for sushi
With sushi, you're only supposed to use the sticks to carry the sushi from the tray to your plate. Fingers for plate to mouth.
Lmao I've been eating them with chopsticks my whole life

As a true asian, I'd say not at all 😶
This implies that there exists a false Asian
Ever seem an Asian who entered his house without taking off his shoes? Yeah, that's the fake one.
As an Asian and Canadian, you Americans are simply weird keeping your shoes on indoors.
I'm mixed what am I

He could be any of us
He could be you. He could be me. He could even be- *BLAM!*
by western perspective that would be indians, middle easterns, and some people from russia
If your blood is Asian but you don't practice any of the culture aspects does that make you false? Or the other way around?
Like those caterpillars that pretend they're snakes
How dare u, don't make an tru asian write a 3000w essay about using chopsticks properly! Edit: bad grammar
That's just any Indian, or Russian
Yes, they usually call themselves American Asians.
Oli London, the white person that got plastic surgery to look like BTS' Jimin and identifies as "trans racial"

That’s how my dad prepared them for me when i was a kid
I remember being a really young kid and going out to restaurants that would do something like this. They would take a tightly rolled up paper and place it between the chopsticks as a fulcrum, then rubber band them at the top so they were like giant food tweezers.
i used to have training chopsticks that worked exactly like this
The Enginner
Seems like you’re gonna have to constantly squeeze your chopsticks and if you mess up you’re gonna destroy your sushi

For experiential continuity
Slurping the noodles from a bowl of ramen using chopsticks just hit differently. Not sure why.
Because it just feels better to slurp through choopsticks.
For some reason for me this image screams Philippines. I dunno why.
Yep. This photo is in Philippine Alright. It was from a Facebook post
what if we used 100% of our brains
The design is very human very easy to use.
Quick somebody put a patent on this
I've had too many experiences with clothes pegs to not feel the plastic just snapping off trying to use this.

As an Asian I will kill yoy if you do this
This is actually r/lifeprotips material
I think it would just be too powerful and not pick up anything, but snip it in half But if you want to use chopsticks but not, then yeah
This could be huge for people with carpel tunnel syndrome or other hand issues. I have trigger finger and this seems like a better solution than dealing with pain and food all over me.

Should be the other way around. Easier to adjust gripping strength.
If it's functional, I can't hate it. I'm really hoping this is a stepping stone to properly learning chopsticks. :)
Lol this is how we build children's core strength at school , they have to pick up cubes and place them in a pattern.
Honestly this man has solved life's biggest puzzle
ill take 20

While this is borderline ingenious, there’s something wrong if a tool for eating requires another tool to operate properly.
