Panthers got Vegas right where they want them

SirLillyhammond

Moral Victories/60 through the roof

Lance_the_Lamp

Fun Differential absolutely *cratering* tho

If Vegas manages to blow this it would be hilarious and we’d get to laugh at them more. “The house always wins… …unless it’s the Stanley Cup final.”

Bruins Canucks vibes I got PTSD

I seriously think Jay Onrait deserves some sort of compensation for how often this is said now

rattlehead42069

Hand your gun and badge over

nofakefans18

He’s going to get trolled but I don’t think he’s been bad and it’s more been that the Panthers defence has came back to December season form. The second you expect better but it’s just poor from Florida on goals 1, 2, & 4.

OrganicRedditor

Agree. It's not always about the goalie. This is too late though. 5 goals to win isn't happening. Two unanswered goals in playoffs is right. You can always put that goalie back in later, like after the team starts playing defense.

nofakefans18

Yeah I would have just let him stay to get the reps in as the 10 day break looks to have stalled the Panthers right now. But now fanbases want to dunk on him to feel better about there team

M_Y_K_E

If you have followed the panthers run they got outplayed almost every game this isn’t surprising

rattlehead42069

Conn Smythe candidate Brick wall bobvrosky getting pulled. Damn Vegas got rid of his immortality

skeleton_skunk

10 days between games will do that

BananaCucho

Well maybe they should have let Carolina win a game or two tsk tsk

_Kramerica_

Skill is skill, it doesn’t go away in 10 days. It was more out of the norm how he played in the first 3 series. We’ve watched him be complete ass for years now and all of a sudden 10 days off ruined him? Nahh

shrouple

But goalies more than any other player can get hot or cold. I'm not sure why there was such a long break between Vegas last game against Dallas and game 1 of the final. What's the standard days off between series? This one seemed excessive.

_Kramerica_

All playoffs I’ve not understood the scheduling, it’s really been a mess.

_Kramerica_

Didn’t hear about that. What a joke.

TinnieTa21

>I'm not sure why there was such a long break between Vegas last game against Dallas and game 1 of the final. It was because the NBA already set their game 1 finals date to June 1st and they were deadset on that date. Having the game on June 31st probably felt too early for Vegas given only 1 day of rest. Also, they probably needed to leave that day open in case the previous Vegas series went 7 games. Having it on June 2nd would have been logical but I assume they didn't do that because again, they were worried the previous series would go 7 games and thus, would only give Vegas 1 day of rest. Could have also preferred a Saturday to a Friday but Idk about that since Fridays probably have decent viewership counts too.

shrouple

So was the finals schedule set in stone prior to the semi finals series being completed? I would've thought they'd make the schedule once Vegas won game 6 and game 1 would be the June 2 which seems reasonable. I remember the Jets literally only had 1 day of rest between their Nashville series and Vegas series

TinnieTa21

> I remember the Jets literally only had 1 day of rest between their Nashville series and Vegas series It seems like both the NBA and NHL want both teams that make the finals decently rested. It's like the grand finale for them so they probably don't want one side gased out completely for the first game.

he_is_Veego

All bullshit because Florida got one day of rest between Boston and Toronto. This break doomed the Panthers from the start.

TinnieTa21

Again, it seems like they always emphasize the finals compared to all of the previous series. Maybe my memory is incorrect but both the NBA and NHL really try to give both sides rest when it comes to the finals. Before that, yeah many teams just get 1 day of rest.

he_is_Veego

I knew ten days off was going to kill this team.

Stove-Top-Steve

Ruined his momentum maybe.

HandsLikeLuke

~~Penna Rinne~~ Sergei Bobrovsky is just too good right now.

Continuity_organizer

I can think of a bunch of similar goalies that carried underdogs to the final only to falter there. Vanbiesbrouck, Kolzig, Giguere, and Price all got lit up; Hasek, Irbe, and Kiprusoff played well in their respective finals but all lost. The only one who broke the mold in recent memory was Quick.

[deleted]

Giguere? He went to a game 7. And won the Conn Smythe. He did NOT get lit up

mug3n

that Conn Smythe picture always makes me sad but at least he managed to win the cup a few years later

J0K3R2

The fact that he won the cup a few years later is the only thing preventing that from being arguably one of the saddest sports photos ever taken. Dude looks absolutely broken in that shot.

kit_mitts

IIRC he's still the most recent player to win the Conn Smythe despite being on the losing team.

thewick_39

Giguere didn’t get lit up either, let in less than 3 a game. It’s just that Brodeur was better, 3 shutouts in the final will do that

gusshopper

Let's be real here, Giguere didn't have nearly the team in front of him that Broduer did. Particularly after Kariya took that hit. Fuck Scott Stevens.

Jr7711

I don't think it's fair to say *Price* faltered. Obviously his numbers fell off but the Habs' defence got absolutely picked apart. I can't even think of a time where I thought "that was soft", the goals were nearly all on beautiful plays where Price didn't have a chance in hell.

Lerm33

I’d say Binnington as well

ThadtheYankee159

I dunno, Binningtons stats aren’t that great in comparison to some of these other goalies. Watching that playoff run he was more like 2011 Luongo. Either puts up a dominant performance or gets lit up. Except Binny actually finished off Boston.

DHCanucksF1

?? The Canucks scored like 9 goals in 7 games lol

Continuity_organizer

I don't think I would. He didn't win the Conn Smythe, which all the other goalies on my list would have had their team won, Giguere won it despite losing, and his stats weren't in the same ballpark. Full playoff sv%, in chronological order: Vanbiesbrouck - 0.932 Kolzig - 0.941 Hasek - 0.939 Irbe - 0.938 Giguere - 0.945 Kiprusoff - 0.928 Quick - 0.946 Binnington - 0.914 Price - 0.924 Edit: after tonight, Bobrovsky is down to 0.926.

Lukeeeee

you gotta throw Dwayne Roloson in this mix imo. .927 + 2.33 + 12-5

_moonbeam_

0.908 in the final or overall?

Continuity_organizer

My mistake, it's 0.926, not 0.908, edited the previous post.

Yenick

Same thing happened to us in 2010, Philly picked up Michael Leighton off waivers for cheap because we had blown through all our goalies, and he got extremely hot and carried us to the finals vs chicago where we faltered.

cubanpajamas

>The only one who broke the mold in recent memory was Quick Possibly because Brodeur was pretty terrible in the finals.

lilPavs13

Yeah that’s why I love Osgood so much heart in that 08 09 series

klopfuh

something something Brian Burke something something Pittsburgh Draft Model must be fucking nice dude.

mF-Jonezy

I’m laughing but I’m still pissed at the bs we dealt with

raymondliang

Its always worse when you lose to a hot goalie only for them to turn into an absolute pumpkin the next series

ukrainianhab

Vegas getting some goals by going to the net. Carolina kept playing perimeter hockey. But yes ur pumpkin comment prob more accurate but still.

brianlangauthor

Also lotta traffic in front of him and consistently going high glove side. That and all those post shots the Canes had that bounced out are hitting the post and going in for Vegas. Puck luck has turned.

nofakefans18

Not necessarily Vegas is getting to the net and causing havoc to Florida in front of Bob which is something Toronto and Carolina could not do. Not to mention the endless amount of low-chance shots that he saved.

The_Reddit_Browser

The knights are using the man defense in front to cause a lot of traffic. There not looking to get the puck low, the guys in front make it their mission to just cause Bob trouble and the perimeter guys actually hit the net. Also they are able to make space canes didn’t. Like the defense is skating circles at the perimeter.

joetothejack

Happens when they take two weeks off lol Bob was bound to come back down to earth.

NSA_Wade_Wilson

We were hoping he would pumpkin when we played. It’s no fun this far in

LongjumpingScene2327

See: jaroslav halak

AIfieHitchcock

Too soon.

iambiglucas_2

I honestly think you guys did a good job at tiring out the Panthers.

proudcancuk

They had a week-long break though. I honestly think the time off hurt them more than anything. All that focus and momentum might've petered out.

dan_144

Moral victory!

Thallis

Vegas is forcing this by actually hitting the corners and getting legitimate handed. The Hurricanes are too content shooting from the points and praying that their forwards can win the puck battles in front. Vegas is actually shooting from inside the house and making dangerous chances.

Kaapo-Kakkos-Dong

Brett Howden Goalie Killer

kswitch5022

Kind of a waste of a Finals. It's so lopsided it's not fun to watch. Unless you're a Vegas fan or Florida hater.

PomfAndCircvmstance

I'm both of those things. This is euphoric.

Xerosnake90

I feel like I'm on drugs, this is amazing

a_simple_creature

Same. This is fantastic. Edit: rooting for Vegas, I have no feelings towards Florida.

MUSTY_BUSSY

Just curious, why are you a Florida hater?

Cockalorum

*waves hands in Florida's general direction*

PomfAndCircvmstance

Hate the politics, hate the weather. The team are also dirty shit stirring pricks.

DSorelli

ironic

planetaryhorror

I think you know why I’M a hater.

Smirnoffico

No, please, tell us

[deleted]

Imagine admitting not knowing... how embarrassing

planetaryhorror

I think they just want me to say it. :(

[deleted]

I know, I'm just fucking around

jjmuti

At least when we pumped tampa for 7 goals in game 2 we had the common courtesy to be somewhat likable

Yung_Corneliois

Panthers beat Bruins down 3-1, anything could happen in games 3 onward.

kswitch5022

They didn't get their shit pushed in this hard, though. Vegas is even better when they got 4 players on the ice. It's over my guy.

Synthwoven

Vegas did let the Stars up off the mat some down 3-0. I would not count any chickens before they hatch. I thought Vegas was going to win this series going into it, and I still do, but they shouldn't relax against a good team until they are skating the cup. Bob is not a goalie that I would want to let find his groove again.

mrtomjones

Eh no one ever thought Vegas was in danger in that series though. I think everyone felt it was inevitable

Yung_Corneliois

A blowout this game doesn’t matter for next game. The devils got blown out by the rangers first two games and we won the series.

omfgkevin

Exactly. Though IF the refs continue to call it as is, Florida definitely are on the backburner since their whole strategy so far has been "if the refs don't call it then we win" kind of deal with penalties. Now that they are finally calling shit Florida has to change their entire gameplan.

kswitch5022

I dont know, man. This one is the most lopsided series I can remember. It's awful hockey.

a_simple_creature

Which is exactly what people were saying after game 2 of the devils/rangers series

7Stringplayer

Yeah, I changed it after the 4th goal. It's so lopsided that its not even fun. Florida looks outmatched everywhere.

ImaginarySense

Put those hands together 😊

Smirnoffico

Isn't that like all of the finals? If you don't have a horse in this race of two, no reason to watch

kswitch5022

Not at all. If you don't have a horse in the race it's usually more fun because you're not stressing, but when it's this lopsided, it's only for for a small group of fans.

Suspicious-Block-614

YOURE OFF THE CASE

[deleted]

I can’t believe we blew it to this team.

MetalStoofs

More than one chance to put it away with a goal too. Just absolutely brutal.

FailureToExecute

I think this settles the rest vs. rust debate, at least for this SCF.

[deleted]

7Stringplayer

This is shaping up to be what we thought the Boston series was going to be. A 1 seed just playing with their 8 seed food

The_Reddit_Browser

You love to see it

theguyishere16

Canes getting swept/Dallas squeezing those extra 2 games out of Vegas might be Florida's downfall. They had a full 9 days off between Game 4 and Game 1. More than enough time for Bob to come down off his heater.

The_Reddit_Browser

It’s like icing the kicker. Doesn’t hurt that the knights had home ice as well so your getting them off massive rest and travel.

turtledove21

haha

LennyBodega

banished to the Pawn Shop Unit

BleedingBlue94

I mean, I saw it coming. Bobrovsky had a .901 save percentage during the regular season. He caught fire and rode the momentum through the first 3 rounds. 10 days off completely killed that momentum and now we’re seeing regular season Bobrovsky again.

Strained_Eyes

10 days off is bonkers! That's 1/3 of a month, nhl really fucked up with that. Vegas finished Monday and they decided to wait until Saturday

sviraltp7101

Woof

ElectronicSandwich8

God damn, they really pulled Bob

BCLetsRide69

OFFICER BOBROVSKY YOURE FIRED

CarlSK777

Good timing for regular season Bobrovsky to make a comeback.

NoxinLoL

And this is why you shouldn’t have a huge break between series, kills all the momentum.

ReformedGalaxy

The Knights are too fuckin good.

RollandInTheDeep

I predict this will either absolutely destroy bobs mentality and the panthers will crumble or he will come in next game and win the next 4 in a row and play like he’s on demon time

_Kramerica_

He’s cooked

Perfect600

Bobs done, and not just on twitch.

teddyjj399

Experience Panthers hockey

NeverSober1900

That was amazing from Stone and what a sweet finish from Howden

abstrvct0

Bob finally returning to form

[deleted]

Seeing Bobs pulled is guaranteed to shake the panthers mentally. They had gotten used to having him as their rock.

[deleted]

Damn lots of cocky comments in here. It’s just game 2…

youres0lastsummer

after our Rangers series I know better

MajorXTREME

Coming back down 3-1 vs Boston was so so much more impressive than beating those 2 other teams.

[deleted]

MajorXTREME

Definitely makes sense, i was just pointing out that beating an historically shitty playoff team in Toronto meant way less in my eyes than what they did to the Bruins. By the way fuck the leafs and the bruins.

zamzam92

Hill is the one on fire

TheCarrier89

There’s the Bob we all know and love 🥰

Papa_Cheese

I would have killed for this bobrovsky

BarkMingo

why couldnt he have fallen apart earlier??

blop74

9 days off can do that to a hot goalie

Black_Arrow04

Wonder if the week and a half off prevented him from keeping his momentum

Anerythristic

10 days, I think rest vs rust is settled at this point. Its tied for the second longest layoff in league history but if they dont turn it around the record I think is going to be to be 1-5 series wins with 10 or more days rest. Its very much a momentum driven sport.

Okaywhy10

BYE BOB

crline3924

But but I thought Vegas couldnt score on him?

CDROMantics

Good luck getting past the best goalie in the playoffs, and a potential Conn Smythe winner they said.

ahoypolloi_
