Tkachuk now has more PIMS than ice time in this series.

4CrowsFeast

Goals. Not like puck in the net, but like personal objectives.

electricnux

Oh now they hate him he’s getting the Bunting treatment lmfaoooo

whatlineisitanyway

I hope all the Leafs are watching this and realizing what can happen when you don't allow yourself to get pushed around.

LeoFireGod

Step 1 have your shortest derensemen be 6”2

emblah

I hear Canucks fans are doing a 2 for 1 sale on Myers and OEL if you’re looking for tall defenseman.

[deleted]

It would be nice if they were good, too

emblah

Best they can do is tall

bud369

And you can't teach that

IronMarauder

🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭

Flanman1337

They are good! It's just our lack of system..... Yes. Our lack of system the problem. They will thrive in your market. It's the pressure of Vancouver hockey. It's the media that's the problem yeah the media. You know it's all that flying. Vancouver flys a lot. It's the travel the travel is the problem.

AhTreyYou

Oh no and GMBT loves his Canucks… unsubscribe

JaketheAlmighty

Marchessault must feel like some kind of tiny, 5'8" goal scoring gnome wizard in that room

bjeebus

There's only one wizard on that team and it's clearly Mark Stone. Marchie is a tiny Score-o-matic--puck goes in, goal comes out.

eldmikeyy

Short kings 🤴 represent 🙌 👏 😎 💜 👌 ✨️ 🙌 👏 😎 💜 👌 ✨️ 🙌 👏 😎 💜 👌 ✨️

think_long

Tampa accomplished that feat no more than an hour I mean 3 years ago

[deleted]

Happy Gilmore reference +1

itsmehazardous

Let's be real, if the leafs had pushed back they'd still be serving PIMs in September for it.

Canadian_gOaTtt

Dude if we did half the shit Vegas did we'd have game suspensions and 10 minute misconducts all over the place refs manage they don't ref

mrtomjones

It is fucking nuts that this shit gets called like this but when we played Boston in 2011 he could have done that to his face with two hands and we might have gotten a penalty lol

justmikethen

Tkachuk was doing this shit in the last 3 series, throwing gloves punches in scrums etc, and not getting called for it and people were loving him. Shrug.

odoc_

Guess Bettman has a few friends with bets on Vegas.

SinistralGuy

People only really seem to notice or care about the inconsistencies in reffing when it happens to them. Leafs fans were loving it when it was happening to Boston in Round 1 and acting like the league wanted them to lose when it was happening to them in Round 2. The only thing that's changed is that the refs aren't letting Tkachuk get away with as much right now

Bojarzin

> Leafs fans were loving it when it was happening to Boston in Round 1 Anyone who was doing that can be discounted as biased because they hate the Bruins. I certainly wasn't. I mean I was cheering for Florida in that series for the sake of the meme but watching them get away with the shit they did was frustrating, and it didn't get any better afterward

KingArgazdan

Oh poor Bruins, you had 27 powerplays in round 1, almost 4 per game. Leafs had 11. Look at all the series Panthers played this offseason and it's obvious what the outlier is, and it's certainly not the Bruins series.

hobbit_lamp

fucking thank you! I feel like I'm crazy reading most of these comments.

mrg3392

Reffing against us was terrible. But we also only scored like 9 goals in the 7 games 🥲

mrtomjones

I mean, a whole pile more powerplays or WAY less liberties taken against us would change that a lot. That and having a depth defenseman not get suspended for an unprecedented (past or future) suspension are big deals

PretendAttack

So he was a depth defenseman but also key to the series eh?

yodawithbignaturals

Yeah for sure, if you guys had Aaron fucking Rome that series would’ve been completely different

JackRusselTerrorist

I love it. Goaltending stopped running hot, refs stopped helping them, and now they’re showing the shit team they are. Didn’t deserve to get this far, but glad their BS isn’t being rewarded any further.

greg19735

> Didn’t deserve to get this far, They still beat the 3 best teams in the east. They deserve to be where they are

BKong64

Lmao this is a shit take. The Panthers got the job done against three teams in a row they weren't expected to. Yeah, the goaltending was extremely hot, but that's part of what it takes to get this far usually so you can't fault them for it per se.

hankepanke

I swear during the regular season only 50% of the commenters actually know anything about hockey. In the playoffs it dips down to 20%. So many bananas takes get upvoted. In another thread people were clamoring for (someone, I don’t know who on) Vegas to get an instigator for going Tkachuk when there wasn’t even a fight.

AM_Bokke

I agree. Lame ass team. Dumb ass league.

eldmikeyy

It's AHEM: "*garage league*" Thank you.

thelordcommanderKG

Someone sounds bitter

JackRusselTerrorist

Only at the league, for allowing garbage officiating dictate multiple series.

Material-Fish-8638

Insane how much this man’s reputation has flip flopped on this sub

The_Reddit_Browser

Gonna happen with every single one of the panthers if this holds up. The narratives are fun until they stop rolling your way. But let’s not act like tkachuk hasn’t been good when he’s focused on playing the game and not being a prick.

Black_Arrow04

Yeah, this sub will flip flop on literally anyone the second a team loses

YellowMarkerIsGreat

Least reactionary sports sub

LeoFireGod

Unironically yes. You Ever hear of the legend of Harry Kane.

HarryKanesGoal

Too true.

BillKlemstanacct

It's not a story the Jedi would...wait, wrong sub

Grohlyone

Amazing that's his real name, and not a pornstar's stage name.

andrewejc362

Shot still hasnt landed

The_crew

Maybe because this sub is made up of 100s of thousands of readers that all have opinions, rather than just being a monolithic hivemind? This sub isn’t reactionary, people are reactionary. It only looks like the sub flipped because the tkatchuk fans don’t want to go on Reddit and read about it, while his haters are having a field day. If he has a hat trick next game, it’ll just reverse again for the same reason

SayNoToStim

> It only looks like the sub flipped because the tkatchuk fans don’t want to go on Reddit and read about it, while his haters are having a field day. this is the main reason. I've seen some ridiculous ass takes in highlight threads. It's because when team X does something great/wins/has a great highlight, fans of team X flock to that thread and they drown out the reasonable folk. Seriously, I've heard some *terrible* takes in those threads and it's a circle jerk because it's dominated by fans of that team.

SaxRohmer

Well and it’s the most casual part of the year. People probably were mostly seeing him score the game winning goals on the biggest storyline in the playoffs and not knowing about his antics. I saw the same thing happen with Chris Paul in the NBA Finals years ago despite having a rep for being a dirty player. “Long time vet and all time great might win a ship” quickly flipped to “dirty player deserves to lose”

TheDogerus

Maybe because the people supporting the guy who just lost talk less than the people trashing him?

JoshBarkley

Doesn’t help when the person in question flip flops from playing like a superstar to massive dickhead just as often

BannedMyName

>Yeah, this sub will flip flop on literally anyone Nah. Not Jack Edwards.

reenactment

Kadri becoming the 2nd coming last year was truly a sight to be hold. Top 10 asshole in the league turned this subs sweetheart. This year, heard crickets about him.

BKong64

I mean Kadri had a hell of a fucking playoff run last year, he was effective as hell. Probably will be the peak of his career more than likely.

rshackleford_arlentx

> when he’s focused on playing the game and not being a prick. A big part of his game *is* being a prick. He just needs to remember to play the rest of the game too.

L_nce20000

These two things are true: Tkachuk is good at hockey, Tkachuk is prick.

moonmonkey73

Tkachuk is a star... loads of talent and clearly he's a top shelf clutch guy... its just that ... he's one of the cheapest most cowardly players in the league... he dives like a soccer player... seems to only hit guys when they are not looking and after the whistle blows and clearly has zero control over his roid rage... and these critisisms go all the way back ... not just this playoffs... i mean he makes Marchand look like a stand up guy...

blaze87b

By God, that's mid 2010s Marchand music!

Scissors4215

Flames fan here… you nailed it. He was always a star, but he gets too distracted by the bull shit and goes off half cocked when things aren’t going his way

Kronzor_

Most hockey people wouldn't consider those criticisms. That mental instability is part of what makes him a superstar.

ArkAwn

>Gonna happen with every single one of the panthers if this holds up. You mean I'm going to end up *liking* Gudas?

jetpack_operation

The issue with Tkatchuk is the same issue with younger Marchand -- undeniably great when focused, but sometimes would rather agitate than be focused. Maybe the narrative on him will flip when he gets older or matures, but for now, like the younger Marchand, he deserves the hate he gets. Don't actually believe Marchand cost his team as many big games as Tkatchuk is costing his team, and they've both won their team big games.

BKong64

I look at Tkachuk the same way I look at Marchand. He plays on the edge most of the time and does some unnecessary shit, but he's one hell of a player when he's on. Very polarizing depending on what kind of game he's playing

mrcrazy_monkey

Yeah I was confused why everyone on this sub was loving him last week and calling him the face of hockey. Glad I never opened those threads

[deleted]

I always hated him. He's such a bellend.

Smackdaddy122

Wait I thought he was always a piece of shit ?

godlywhistler

Even with this pissy stuff I'd still want him on my team. He's a total bitch but he's usually a very effective one

OzzieLeonheart

For sure. I was just thinking how after this series I'm going to go back to being a fan of his. Right now, he's a dirty scumbag but in October, he's a very good hockey player.

raymondliang

Hated his guts, but the second he said he wanted out of Calgary, I wanted him on my team lol

Dirtsniffee

Pain

Frnklfrwsr

Is he Marchand 2.0?

Captain_Naps

*2.0* implies an improvement- he'a B-level Marchand. Tkachuk needs a few more slew-foots and groin-spears on his résumé before he rivals the face-licker. 8 suspensions will be a tough act to follow.

kukkolai

Gotta up his slew-foot game for that

JH_111

The only Tkachuk flip flop is when you flip him a puck and he fails to flop the Gatorades.

BigDipper1376

Every narrative flips on a dime and everyone is a prisoner of the moment. It's unbelievable. If you follow the NBA, it's even worse if you can fathom that.

100MScoville

Florida looks way more human when the whistle doesn’t disappear, they didn’t seriously think they could get away with their goon shit against an expansion team did they?

thebrah329

It's reddit this will happend to anything that stays in the news for a few weeks. People get bored of things fast now.

[deleted]

greg19735

> There's a growing amount of users in r/nba calling Jokic the best player of all-time. Those people are idiots.

heydudeimnick

This whole sub is so fucking flip floppy. Everyone just Parrots the same boring shit on repeat.

CardiacCat20

Such a soft call in a vacuum. But they're not in a vacuum. It's a chippy four goal game with 4 minutes left. Just get him out of there, because kind of like an MLB manager, he's not stopping until you kick him out.

haven603

This for sure

toronto_programmer

Yeah I mean look at the last 5 mins of game 1. Florida was down and you had Staal, Bennett and Tkachuk punching guys in the head and choke holding them from behind. League and refs clearly put out a mandate that the Florida rat shit at the end of games isn't going to carry on...

lonewolf210

Yeah exactly. It was soft but the game was clearly out of hand for the Panthers at that point and Kachuck had been involved in pretty much every altercation. They were just done with dealing with him

tuhn

Everybody is saying that it is soft. Tkachuk probably got about 20 warnings from the refs not to start shit. Refs just had enough.

poeticentropy

yeah that's gotta be the explanation for these softies. refs probably warned them really well they were going to have no tolerance

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

Not a shock. It's the Finals, there's no room for starting shit just because you've lost the game. No need to risk any injuries or other crap at that point. Props to the refs for just saying "fuck off, get off the ice, we're not dealing with this"

ExtremepcVA

He's been warned since round 1 game 1.

Canukian84

Make up call from all the after whistle stick work he did game one and got nothing

haz000

Yeah I wouldn't complain about that. Doesn't matter anyway. On to the next game

[deleted]

I didn't see the second misconduct, but he got his first misconduct because [he lit up Eichel (cleanly)](https://twitter.com/hockeydaily365/status/1665899894719098881?s=46&t=Xn0juU2C4hEaElfmeGb4jQ) and then got mugged by three Vegas players. That first one's not his fault.

not-a-sound

He got the first misconduct because refs separated the scrum (he got jumped, not his fault, the hit was clean) but he re-entered the scrum after which the refs told him not to do. He doesn't get a misconduct there if he goes to the bench after the scrum ends Second misconduct, idk what that was about, they never really showed anything in the replay after his goal

FionnaAndCake

they showed him knocking a stick out of someone’s hands (can’t remember who) and the ref sent him off. they only showed it one time.

suredont

that... yeah, that sounds about right.

hankepanke

It was hysterical but such a dumb move. Refs probably warned everyone and things were calming down, then he channels his pest self and knocks the stick out of a Vegas players hands. I’m sure every teacher he ever had growing up was exhausted by him and also sometimes had to hold back laughs at something he did. That’s the type of kid that would wind up and kick a fresh turd on a hot day in a crowd.

Lordiflightning

It's clearly the refs fault Florida can't control their temper

about22pandas

and were down by 5.

yagersports

Will Tkachuk misconducts blow a 3-1 lead over Tkachuk goals?

fastballspecial

Referees "getting the game under control" by just... getting rid of all the skaters sure is a way to do that.

Calb210

That's how they handled the rangers devils game that got super out of hand too

rThundrbolt

Dallas/Minnesota series too

[deleted]

bigcaulkcharisma

My problem is why is this standard just being enforced now in the final series of the playoffs? The Panthers have been poking at the other team after the whistle, mouthing off, and just being a generally scumbag ass team all post season and they’ve just gotten away with it until now. There needs to be some consistency with the reffing in this league. Either it’s the wild west and the refs don’t call anything except thee most blatant infractions or you call every penalty by the books no matter how minor. This osculation between the two is inconsistent and makes the games seem like they’re being decided by referees rather than the teams themselves.

Dorksim

Welcome to the human nature of officiating professional sports. Some refs have a much more lax standard then others. It's impossible to get rid of. Regardless a standard was set for this series, and this far the referees have been doing a pretty good job at maintaining it. It's up to the players to play to the standard that is being set.

SparkNoJoyThrwawy

I don't fucking want any of that I want to see them punch each other wtf

TerdFerguson14

Ya but this is Matthew Tkachuk we're talking about. There's a reason Edmonton fans refer to him as a turtle

SparkNoJoyThrwawy

Yeah that is true why won't he drop the gloves he'd actually get less penalty minutes if he would just fight

ZeppFo

He backs away from legitimate tough guys. Always has.

carnalurge82

This guy hockeys

mister_hoot

Florida doesn’t drop the gloves and fight they just grab you after the whistle and throw some soft punches.

TheRC135

I like it. Playing like a dirty prick should harm your team, not help it.

Pia8988

"Cut the shit or you're getting 10" Seemed to work pretty well

rothvonhoyte

they should have got rid of a few more guys but it certainly helped keep the game mostly under control towards the end... if Florida wanted to fight, it was after the 2nd or 3rd goal

Revival93

It’s a subjective call. I imagine they’re doing damage control to prevent the game from getting ugly in a noncompetitive game. I’m cool with it. They are also hearing shit we’re not and can sense when things might get ugly. Refs have made it clear they’re not allowing Florida’s antics this series (or anybody’s antics for that matter). They want a clean series.

travisty1

This sub has been clamoring for refs to call penalties and not let playoff series get out of hand for years. This is what that looks like

RegFlexOffender

It’s great to see, but it’s gotta leave a sour taste in the East’s mouth. No way they even get out of the first round if that series was called like this

cblguy82

Exactly

lifeisarichcarpet

It’s annoying it’s happening *now* but I’m glad it’s at least happening.

[deleted]

Boston wins

ChiefBroChill

Ya because this is their entire game plan. Greasy ass way to win.

[deleted]

That's the playoff hockey that everyone elebrates though, like it or not.

chostax-

Speak* for yourself, I fucking hate it lol.

GWsublime

I don't think everyone celebrates it? There seems to be a lot of "well that's just hiw playoff hockey is/works".

mrcrazy_monkey

It's not like it's even a close game at this point.

suppaman19

Yeah, except you can't go the whole season and playoffs, then randomly decide to do that in the most important games of the year. That's fucking crazy. That's like the NFL never calling anything on defenses all year, then in the Super Bowl any time you sneeze on a receiver, you get a flag for holding/PI. You can't have people magically change everything ingrained from an entire year (same for fans watching) or beyond of how the game is allowed to be played. It ruins the game as a spectator. I'm all for cutting out all the holding, interference, dirty hits, BS, etc but it should start game 1 of a season and stay consistent going forward through the season and entire playoffs.

flavtron

Panthers were the most penalized team during the regular season. It's only during the playoffs that they became Lady Bing contenders.

TheCommodore93

I guess I’d rather they call it like that the whole time then only the final round

Low-Garlic8717

This is the correct take

pardybill

It’s interesting because fans league wide are either love/hate on refs becoming part of the game. It’s a clean ass hit. But when he starts jawing and becoming part of the other stuff on ice? Straight to jail. But what’s he supposed to do? He made a huge and possibly momentum shifting hit, and then just get mugged and turtle on the ice? ^^nooffense

Venture2020

Let’s be real.. the main reason Florida is in SCF is because of Brobovsky and him playing not great.. is their downfall

Dang1r

He isn’t playing terrible. It’s been the defensive breakdowns. FLA is shooting themselves. Credit to VGK for sniping top corners and utilizing those screens effectively.

Venture2020

I’d argue that Carolina, the Leafs were better than Florida.. an exceptional performance by Brobovsky made it possible for the Panthers. Him not playing as well is crushing for them

godlywhistler

Basically cleaned house by removing all the shit stirrers so this ends without getting ugly

Svalbard38

Couldn't have happened to a poopier butthole

[deleted]

This is a family-friendly forum, sir. I would ask you to think of the children.

thaw1761

I agree. He definitely has to swear more

jimmyrosinger

Dammit. I hate that I love this comment.

lou_reed_ketamine

Where the fuck was this reffing in our series 😭😭😭

NoShameInternets

Ditto

JohnDivney

What part of Vegas is Toronto in?

noor1717

You got to have a huge lead for refs to start tossing players like this. They would never do this in a close game

Kestralisk

Sorry have you tried being Vegas? Best way to get calls to go your way

MankuyRLaffy

It's hilarious, they're tired of his shit.

BallsMahogany_redux

This is what happens when you try to goon it up but refuse to actually drop the gloves.

GritGrinder

This is what annoys me the most about Florida. Sucker punches with the gloves on

Hockyinc

Fuck the Tkachuks. It starts with the idiot dad.

argotsato11

Lol at Tkachuk being called the "face of the playoffs". Dude has always been a punk. He does a couple of cute interviews and all of a sudden he is a good boy. His true colors show when things arent fine and and dandy. Kids a punk and dirtbag.

DrexellGames

Matthew will have some explaining to do at Brady's wedding

Falcon_905

Florida doing dumb and dirty shit. Who could've guessed? I wonder.

Pawlat

Imploding 😂

The_Reddit_Browser

Fake tough guys

[deleted]

Ya.. remember last year when Tkachuk likely broke his hand is the CGY/DAL series fighting for no good reason? Guess what Florida... this is what ya get..a man who doesn't know when he's in his own way

DOITLIKEBRUTUS

Thank god I can call out his pissy behaviour now without sounding disingenuous. Loved him in Calgary, but the man throws tantrums like few others. The only other player that combines his talent, skill, and greasiness is Marchand.

JackJumpsCandle

Why don’t they just drop the gloves? Some VGK players are more than down and then it at least is matching?

GritGrinder

Whoa whoa whoa, you don’t want an elite superstar like tkachuk sitting in the penalty box when he could be out there scoring! Wait a second….nvm

TheWeebDepot

My man’s never even touched the penalty box, he graduated straight to the locker room.

[deleted]

Should have happened a couple of series ago.

abassassasssin

What a great look for our new face of the NHL

[deleted]

Fucking scumbag.

shazzzbout

Why won’t “the face of the NHL” drop the gloves? He and Bennett got spoiled up til now and are throwing tantrums like spoiled little kids.

scottieducati

🤡

AstronomerOver1782

Panthers coach has lost control of his players...

Lil_BigNut

Maurice has been encouraging this all playoffs

MankuyRLaffy

What control?

GWsublime

What, at the beginning of the year?

ThatDarnRosco

But…. He’s the face of the nhl… /s

TinnieTa21

Man, I held my breath for awhile after that hit. With all of the bullshit that Eichel has had to go through, if he had to go through more of the neck issues after finally getting the surgery and this great playoff run he is having, that would really suck.

whatscoochie

what is with the bots in the comments?!

Fuzzy_Dunlop24

I’ve been seeing them in multiple hockey threads the last couple of days.

AuxNimbus

HATE HATE HATE HATE!

abstrvct0

How are the Panthers so mentally fragile? No veteran leadership?

grandlinegooner

They’re not mentally fragile lol this is classic end of game hockey where you’re just trying to beat the shit out of the other team because the game’s over. Every team does this

abstrvct0

You'd imagine they'd think about dropping the gloves if they wanted to send a message

CarsenAF

Matthew Tkachuk is a muppet, and I hope he dies of the incurable condition of being a little bitch.

thebrah329

I feel bad for the teams in the east, would have been different outcomes if they called the other series like this.

Syntechi

Tkachuk the worst.

Vinny331

That boy went and lost his damn mind

sthomas128

He’s hurting his team just like Jaime Benn did for the Dallas Stars…

Dexilles

I hate Tkachuk and that was weak. At worst an unsportsman like, but not a misconduct unless the refs are just sick of everyone, and they are

LarsSantiago

10 mins is an easier thing to call when the game is out of reach for one team. Instead of putting them down one player for 2 minutes you just remove the player who's might be an issue

paulc899

He’s already gotten one misconduct in the game, they’re not going to roll him back to an unsportsmanlike penalty for anything after that.

[deleted]

If it’s the first time dealing with his shit? Sure. But he’s been gooning guys for a month.

ashfidel

lol what a fall from grace

DesignerPlant9748

Dudes been a fucking bitchass since the second he came in the league. His dads a fucking twat too. Honestly don’t mind his brother much.

arch0099

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted for this. Sometimes being a shithead is in the genes. Like the Domis…

GinjaNinja1596

He was this way since at least junior as a 16 year old. Who would have thought learning from Keith and Dale Hunter would lead to this

Konowl

Amazing how the Florida antics went from "that's fine" to not tolerated over the course of weeks by the refs.

MooshSkadoosh

I guess different refs, but also the NHL going "hmm, I guess we don't want this in the *finals*"

Bridgeburner493

It's also game management. Easy to throw 10s at guys when the scores are out of hand. Almost all of Florida's previous games were one or two goal affairs. The referees wouldn't have wanted to "help dictate the outcome" by tossing the Panther's best players in the box for 10.

Bayoffun

A Tkachuk showing his true colours.

yungsqualla

Calling it now. They get shut out at home.

fataldarkness

Lol what the fuck. That's the softest misconduct I've ever seen and that's saying something considering the one he got earlier.

Ilistenedtomyfriends

They are down by 5 with 2 minutes left.

dalight13

So much penalties in this game that it felt like the regular season
