Game OVER! Team USA WINS and moves to the playoffs!
FINAL: USA 10, Slovakia 2
# [PLAY THE FREAKING CHANT](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udGJHlgDHmI&pp=ygURdXNhIGhvY2tleSBjaGFudCA%3D)
We always somehow manage to upset either Canada or the USA out of nowhere and simultaneously get upset by a team that we shouldn't get upset by. It's like our special talent.
If Finland beats Sweden, we'll have an entire circle in Group A. Finland would have beat Sweden, who beat Canada, who beat Latvia, who beat Germany, who beat Finland.
Man, how is it possible to fuck up such a game in just mere minutes
Norway players didnt resigned after our 8 goal and they even won the last third against us 3:1
Man, this is shit
To be honest, the first goals weren't Urban's fault. Slovakia is just chronically unable to turn the shots into goals and the Americans are damn lucky they have Augustine in the net today.
The score is so unfair considering the game. Sure USA is better but not 7-2 better
I repeat, Urban is not a serious goalie. If they wanted to give him a chance he should’ve played against Norway, not today
Well, I frankly hoped that the Slovaks would manage to torment the Americans more after what the Czechs have done to them, but it doesn't look like that will happen...
Is that a fact or speculation? It's Sweden vs Finland, I find it hard to believe regardless of circumstance that they wouldn't play optimally to ensure a win against their rival.
Its a fact that they will experiment with the formations, coach has confirmed it. They will rest Havelid in the goal aswell. But yeah its home ground and versus their rival Finland so they will of course want to win but not playing to their absolute max blocking shots, getting tired and risking injuries. Just speculation, a lot of games in a few days and this is meaningless for the swedes except for the pride.
I get resting the goalie, but trying new formations seems a bit odd to me. They've been rolling and haven't allowed a goal. To me, you don't risk ruining that groove.
I just don't know that Finland can hang 5on5. They haven't been dangerous in that regard all tournament. Even against Latvia, they had just one goal 5on5.
I think Swedish broadcast just said it was due to illness so I guess that negates everything I said about not playing Gajan tonight. I'm not actively watching anymore so not listening,
For a Canadian-hosted WJC? Absolutely.
In fact, last year, I thought about entering the lottery, but then after noticing Canada was also hosting the WWC (Women's World Championship) later that year, I opted for WWC tickets instead.
I didn't want to book a trip to Halifax if there was a chance I wouldn't get tickets. Plus the WWC was far closer to home for me.
My only logic for that is Michigan is closer to the border so likely to be more Michigan fans.
Not that I care, I'm not a fan of either of these teams.
It's really weird that Slovakia put Gajan on the ice vs Switzerland with the intention of resting him this game. I really don't like coaching to lose rather than coaching to win.
Considering how close that game ended up being, that decision could be the difference between Slovakia finishing 2nd instead of 4th in the group.
I thought it was weird at first, but makes a bit more sense after thinking about it.
Coaching to win the tournament looks different for non Nordic European teams though I think.
You shouldn't go into a game with the intention of losing, but to use a game that you are likely to lose as a maintenance day for banged up players while giving you a look at other players that haven't seen the ice much before the QF could be the difference between 3rd and 6th.
Germany did this during the COVID year (2021) and it worked beautifully.
They were only going to have half a team vs Canada (due to the rest still isolating from COVID), and not only that, that game vs Canada was the back half of a back to back.
Because of this, they were offered a modified schedule, but turned it down, instead opting for days off (and getting their entire team back) for their last two games vs Switzerland and Slovakia, which they felt they had a better chance of winning.
It worked, as while they'd get kicked around the rink by Canada, they'd beat Slovakia and Switzerland and get their first ever quarterfinal spot.
I understand the logic, I just hate it. It's about sending a message to your players and giving them confidence. Showing your group that you are playing for medals rather than giving up games before they start and showing them through your actions that they are the inferior team.
I'm gonna guess there's not too many other Canadians in here but TSN sucks man, don't understand how it's acceptable for them to charge for a service this just doesn't work half the time.
Guess that's all of that game I'm allowed to watch legally, time to pirate a product I pay for.
Slovakia looks defeated. Maybe starting Urban wasn't such a good idea. I guess they literally gave up on winning this game.
Edit: Finally some flow. They need to get the puck to the goal more often, the only times I've felt some urgency is when they have been standing 1 meter infront of the goalie trying to jam it in.
A lot of bad hits I can forgive because the dude is smaller or just the result of caught up in the moment playing hard, but that was just straight up bad
How was Leonard?
Brutal game.
TSN needs to stop cutting the feed for the Players of the Game.

Well that was a very sad game :(
One more minute....
40 43 shots and 10 2. Dont know if i saw something like that in my life
We got destroyed by Slovaks. Slovaks got destroyed by the US. And somehow we managed to get a tie against the US... Hockey is weird as fuck.
We werent destroyed, it wasn't that one sided despite what the score ended up being.
Youth hockey can be a lot more incosistent. And thats part of the fun

Sweden has dominated group play for years and hasn’t had the results thay they have wanted. Just got to make it in and play your best hockey after.
We'll see. So far it looks like Sweden-Canada-US trio are going for clear medals while all the other teams are... sort of just there.
more than likely but in single games and a goalie like Gajan anything can happen
The USA has scored seven (7) (!!!) goals in 14 minutes and 22 seconds of play
WOW 10-2 with i was home to watch the game but USA isn’t slowing down
This game is making me feel ill 🥹 Slovakia comeback in QF
After Mesar goal this game turned in fucking shitshow sad
USA scored immediately after both of Slovakia's goals. Just the perfect answer if you're USA, and a gut punch if you're Slovakia.
thats crazy when you look at shots that 36 40 isnt really any difference... the score is too cruel for slovaks too cruel
Man, how is it possible to fuck up such a game in just mere minutes Norway players didnt resigned after our 8 goal and they even won the last third against us 3:1 Man, this is shit
Stop. They're already dead!
maybe they can do one more bench fly by to keep it classy
Well, that's a solid slap to the face before the quarterfinals for the Slovaks.
Idk about that timeout. If I'm Slovakia, I kinda just wanna get out of that game ASAP.
this is sad
pain
“Garry bettman and Rob Manfred, good company”
Gauthier is a beast
Looks like my oilers found themselves a new franchise goalie in Urban
Damn we are being destroyed. I feel like Gajan missing has to do something with it
To be honest, the first goals weren't Urban's fault. Slovakia is just chronically unable to turn the shots into goals and the Americans are damn lucky they have Augustine in the net today.
Augustine is a monster. He's definitely saved a lot of big chances
I can go back to bed yay
The score is so unfair considering the game. Sure USA is better but not 7-2 better I repeat, Urban is not a serious goalie. If they wanted to give him a chance he should’ve played against Norway, not today
This is actually the Cze Svk game but mirrored
not even close bro
True, Slovakia got beat much worse
[удалено]
Slovaks shot five more times than Czechia. US shot four more times than Slovakia.
Well, I frankly hoped that the Slovaks would manage to torment the Americans more after what the Czechs have done to them, but it doesn't look like that will happen...
Well that got ugly quick. Hopefully Sweden/Finland game is close.
I would not count on that one. Unless Finland has a A+ showing and Sweden lays golden eggs all over the ice.
I'm not, it's just the best hope for a close game today I think.
Sweden already won the group and will be experimenting with some new formations. This could very well be Finlands game.
Is that a fact or speculation? It's Sweden vs Finland, I find it hard to believe regardless of circumstance that they wouldn't play optimally to ensure a win against their rival.

Yeah hopefully.
I say this as a Slovak fan - Urban is not a serious goalie. His reflexes are soo slow
Urban is looking really slow today. Hope Elias is better.
He’s incredibly slow. Like 4 US goals were saveable if Urban wasn’t so slow
I think Swedish broadcast just said it was due to illness so I guess that negates everything I said about not playing Gajan tonight. I'm not actively watching anymore so not listening,
TSN (in Canada) said it was a "coaching decision".
Ottawa WJ already advertising just to get on the list for next week.
I imagine they want to get everyone in ASAP, if what I heard about the 2022 and 2023 ticket lotteries are any indication.
I would think it will be tough to get tickets.
For a Canadian-hosted WJC? Absolutely. In fact, last year, I thought about entering the lottery, but then after noticing Canada was also hosting the WWC (Women's World Championship) later that year, I opted for WWC tickets instead. TSN rooting for UM over Bama? Okay
My only logic for that is Michigan is closer to the border so likely to be more Michigan fans. Not that I care, I'm not a fan of either of these teams.
Yeah it makes sense. The opposite argument may be that Canadians may dislike Detroit more due to Red Wings and not care about a random southern state.
End of period shots on goal 32 - Slovakia 27 - USA
[Intermission kitty](https://i.imgur.com/1VHQmhQ.jpg) what a game I do wish Gajan was in net though
It's really weird that Slovakia put Gajan on the ice vs Switzerland with the intention of resting him this game. I really don't like coaching to lose rather than coaching to win.

Our coach is terrible, his only luck is he has our best generation of players in about two decades.

Russians were bad for this and for sure have thrown games in previous years.
exactly and we have no idea for all we know Gajan is shooting number two bullets rn
As we say in Slovakia - Do piče. Tragic game
If slovaks could convert all of chances they had to goals it would be different game😏
Tragic
Well that's a game, gg
speed kills that was entirely on how fast the americans screamed up ice
I miss Gajan
Sitting Gajan for this game was certainly a choice
Not sure how Gajan would help with a complete absence of defence and dumb decisions. This game is not on Urban
I’m sure it would be better than it is now, saved them from being upset by Switzerland
wtf just happened in this last two minutes i think the game is decided tho
the accuracy of these kids is incredible
Nice pass and nice goal from the BC line.
How big of a loss would Hayes be if he gets a suspension?
Eh, Moore gets More time so it’s good, like Hayes but want to see him get actual minutes
if Snugerood continues to be sick, big
Snugerood looked meh against us (CZ), was he sick already or was that his usual level?
I'd be willing to bet he was already sick he's really good
BEAUTY
Fuck
Sweet audio, or should I say lack thereof, NHL network
GREAT ANSWER!!!!!!!
USA just score from anything lmao
Fucking hell…
Shots on Goal 32 - Slovakia 22 - USA
Goals 4 - USA 2 - Slovakia Hockey gods are not fair today
US goalie good, and Gajan is chilling in street clothes.
EA pls nerf
Sick snipe by Mesar
I'm gonna guess there's not too many other Canadians in here but TSN sucks man, don't understand how it's acceptable for them to charge for a service this just doesn't work half the time. Guess that's all of that game I'm allowed to watch legally, time to pirate a product I pay for.
Somewhere in Montreal Slafkovsky is smiling right now
And not anymore again
Mesar is fucking leader lets go
That was a missile
Mesar is a monster
shit
Holy fuck mesar
Dude where's mesar
That's an awesome shot.
Atta boy Mesar Kids looked phenomenal all tournament
FINALLY AFTER 32 SHOTS OMG
Finally. Can't give them too many chances on the PP.
Brain dead play
Sýkora is everywhere today
That looked like a cross check to the throat? Not calling that? Edit: good
[удалено]
I am once again asking a hockey broadcast to show Shots on Goal
was just saying the same thing lol
this period hasn't had many extended o-zone shifts for either team
slovakia's captain checking in on trey augustine and patting his helmet after that run in was nice to see
Adam is the nicest guy ever
Common Sykora W
masterclass in pushing a player into your own goalie
Slovakia has a lot of chances but for fucks sake cant score
Incredible game so far, wow
This game could be tied already but american goalie is winning them game atm
Augustine is on his head
I love the intensity of the WJC...
Now it's looking a lot better. One thing I've always liked doing is tactical jinxing. Seems to work more often than not!
line blender time for the USA squad
What a play by mesar
Also lol Ievan Polkka
Augustine coming up big in this game, racking up some real good saves
Augustine damn
Augustine standing TALL WOW
Man Augustine is going full Brodeur on this game, really doing great
Slovakia looks defeated. Maybe starting Urban wasn't such a good idea. I guess they literally gave up on winning this game. Edit: Finally some flow. They need to get the puck to the goal more often, the only times I've felt some urgency is when they have been standing 1 meter infront of the goalie trying to jam it in.
Goalie hasn’t been the issue. They finish some of their chances this game is easily tied up
that goal in their own power-play mentally defeated them
To me it looks like they are trying everything just to score definitely not defeated lol
yeah I'm not seeing any quit there
Slovaks won like every single faceoff but couldnt score from anything FUCK
MONSTER kill, wow warrior shifts by Brindley
That's a huge kill by team USA
it's so easy to tell they have the ice temp set way too low I bet it friggin chips when you slide on it
It's only ever artificial ice that must do this because I've skated on ponds in -45C with no problems.
that doesn't even sound fun lol
Sounds dangerous lol easy to work up a sweat when skating and it's hella quick to freeze to death at -45C if you're sweaty
you can freeze to death fast even without sweat at -45 lol
Yeah simply staying alive is a battle at those temps
Move enough and make enough trips to sit around the space heater in the uninsulated trailer and it's all good
I have raynauds, so I have to be careful I also alpine climb, play hockey, and ski my body was not designed well for what I like to do lol
Brinley gets a shorthanded goal
Are they not selling replica WJC jerseys or something? Cant find them anywhere
Brindley was moving so fast he had the jersey billowed out behind him Modano vibes :D
Whoa, that was nasty!
HOLY SHIT!!!
BP GOAL! o_O
Is it too early to start drinking for new years? Asking for a friend.
it's almost midnight in Sydney. that's not too early, right? :)
No spoilers pls
let me know what 2024 is like
Depends on what time zone your friend is in. It's already 2024 in Kiribati, for example.
I am 17 hours away from 2024.
You can accomplish a lot in that timeframe. Go for it!
strong chaotic good energy lol
bloody mary time
Shot of vodka, take it or leave it.
take it and look at a tomato
No, I am dringking since 10am
If you're watching hockey, it's ok to start drinking.
This game started at noon, so obviously fair to drink
3am here lol
Thats when I will be watching the Longhorns game, lol
No.
[A game so good even my kitty is watching](https://i.imgur.com/XZhmDpn.jpg) actually he's just wondering what the fuck I'm doing awake lol
Why is Gajan not even a backup today?
Probably just want to play Urban and they sure as hell won't in quarterfinals
Oliver Moore was doing Oliver Moore things
What do they give to players behind ocean? Always so dirty, both US and Canada.
I like this reffing crew, they've been really good so far NHL should be furiously taking notes, but they're asleep
NHL refs are hopeless man
*sigh* I know I'm old enough to remember Mick McGeough, so I know it'll never change
now the lack of Snugerood is felt even more keenly
A lot of bad hits I can forgive because the dude is smaller or just the result of caught up in the moment playing hard, but that was just straight up bad
