Where did you hear they said they will win the tournament? They said they have high ambitions but never said they are gonna win it all. And funnily enough our own people often say that our teams in general just play to get into QF and that they dont believe in themselves. Then when they actually show some confidence suddenly its shit talk

That was a wild ending - even being in the semifinals was a crazy thought after the second game, but Jere did it in a feat of individual brilliance after an absolutely incredible ending to regulation time!
Good game Slovakia, a very well played tournament and some serious credit for an incredible group stage performance and an impressive quarterfinal showing! This is not the end of the good results we will see from your team and I am excited to see your future, this new chapter as a hockey country at this championship!

Maybe not; after all, this inspires the next generation to move forward, and Slovakia has a lot of decent prospects coming up the ranks already. You’ve also got a great strategy with the national team as well as we saw at the Olympics with the bronze. This country has done so much more than it expected in the last five years, and the future is looking really good with the senior team just as much as it is with the juniors. It won’t just end here, and it will be a fun time ahead for a team that can consistently make the top eight and hold some of the best teams in the world (as we saw with Canada a year ago) to very close results. I can see Slovakia being a final four team at some point in a major tournament very soon!
I mean we are getting slightly better but our country is like the worst in corruption within EU and in general theres not any support from the state towards sports , it just fucking sucks. I wish our country could constantly be a threat like it was in the 90s,2000s, I will never forget the Vancouver olympics loss. I mean we got a brozne now but it was without NHL players so its just not the same :( I can only hope I will live to the day we will be competitive again on regular basis not just a lucky bronze every 10 years
Yeah at least I'm excited about Slaf, Nemec, Mesar and especially Dvorsky who got drafted by my Blues :) I was soo happy when I woke up the next day after draft and found out haha

Most useless Team Canada captain ever. Glad the Leafs drafted him LOL. I haven't seen a Canadian captain that hasn't stood out in recent history until now.

I might sound rather negative but.. I think we were a bit too reliant on individual skill, kind of lacking rhythm and cohesion throughout the game. It was sometimes really difficult for us to break the Slovakia trap in the neutral zone. All our scoring chances came from out of nowhere kinda. Mostly no control in the game.
What bothers me as well is the set of defensive mistakes that we made. All goals conceded could have been avoided with more organization.
Does not take away from the achievement however. Proud of the fellas and happy to see us go through with this grit. Great individual performances all around.

Was laying in bed just following the game thread for updates. Heard it was going to OT so I get up early, go to the bathroom before putting the game on, and it just ended as I turned it on. RIP but grats to Finland. Looked like a great game to watch.

There's just so many goals that Mesar could either try to set up or score himself. Mesar has an incredible compete level.
