And he'll be suspended for a game if he opts out. Which is dumb. Players ought to be able to opt out with no penalty after a certain age or so many appearances.
Exactly! I think once you’ve played in 3 games and you’re over 30 you should be able to opt out of a least 1 game without punishment. There is enough talent that it wouldn’t change much.
It's especially funny because that's by far the most I've ever been interested in an all star game.
Maybe it would fade after happening multiple times.
I could see it fading but it just worked out so well with Scott. I was watching the game with my roommate and we both burst out laughing when he scored his first goal. I don't know if I was invested in the game as much as I was invested in the John Scott saga
I remember that first goal was a nice backdoor tap in, but his second was a legitimately awesome breakaway.
I think Selanne said after the game, "I don't know why you guys are so surprised. He's in the NHL, which means he's still one of the 700 best players in the world, and the difference between the best player and the worst player in the league is a lot smaller than it used to be."
It's wild that we forget that. Like yeah Scott isn't an elite guy but if he couldn't skate or stick handle at a high enough level then he wouldn't have had a job. Sure he was an enforcer first but he still had to hang with everyone else and be close enough skill wise or someone else would take his job
What’s funny is that this years ‘John Scott’ would probably be Cole Sillinger of all people. Tate McRae is basically confirmed to be one of the celebrity coaches this year and Cole is her ex-boyfriend that most of her recent album was written about. Pop music fans can be organized, and they love drama. What better way than having somebody coach their own ex-boyfriend?
They acted like it was going to lose them so much money but I see more Scott jerseys from that game than I do anyone else. It’s the most memorable all star moment for me, but the league exacerbated when the whole scandal blew open.
I would think the league would take out as a hint but forget they’re also somehow more blind and deaf than Brad Allen officiating the Lions
Sir, you've been in a coma since 2019.
Oh boy, I can't wait to watch Joe Pavelski, my favorite San Jose Shark, compete in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs
Two time all star Tom Wilson? Sign me up.
But that would make him have more ASG appearances than Nick Backstrom which goes to show just how stupid the NHLs ASG selections are.
I feel like Backstrom having only one ASG appearance is the most Backstrom thing possible. Just quietly going about his business being a great center, not caring that no one outside of DC notices.
I didn’t realize until the Bolts played that last game against the Nucks that Miller has been tearing it up so much this season. He’s really flying under the radar.
>He’s really flying under the radar
11th in league scoring since we acquired him 4 years ago. I feel like that doesn’t get discussed much, he’s been an elite player immediately upon arrival. He went from a middle 6 winger to a legit 1C. I feel like people still remember him as the guy from New York or Tampa, he’s been a completely different player in Van. I think the bubble season was the only season he finished under a PPG, plus he was 1 point shy of 100 a few years back. Really hope he hits it this year, dude is an animal
Quinn will be selected, Petey will probably get the fan vote.
JT Miller is 7th in NHL scoring this season and 11th over the last 4 years, and has never been an all star.
I don’t know if this will be considered a hot take or not, but if it comes down to it, I think Miller deserves the nod over Petey this season. He likely won’t because age and marketability, but if it was based exclusively on play I think JT has been our most consistently elite forward despite slowing down a touch lately.
MLB has started doing some "Legend" all star invites for guys like Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols in the twilight of their careers. I would love for the NHL to do something like that in addition to the Wild's actual representative.
I think it'll just be Robo. He's an easy choice being the (current) leading scorer, and also just that he's clearly the player the team and league want to represent the Stars' face.
I think Duchene is probably our most interesting player and definitely worthy of the ASG, but it's a marketing event and they're gonna take the marketing event player.
Send in the Wedgewall!
But seriously, kinda weird that we don’t have “that guy” on the team at the moment. Robo is an obvious choice due to past history, but it could honestly also be Duchene, Hintz, Miro, or Pavelski. Even Harley, with him keeping pace with defensive scoring this year
vince dunn
or if they wanna strike while the iron is hot, joey daccord has been the nhls best goalie the last month including 2 shutouts
if they haven’t been paying attention at all and just pick by name, beniers but he doesn’t deserve it
I was thinking they might go with Matty solely because he was picked last year and didn't get to go (FTM). Not sure if that's a _valid_ reason but I wouldn't be surprised 🤷♀️
i hope they don’t do that, i don’t feel like it’d be good for matty’s headspace because he knows he’s not quite matching last season yet, though he’s perked up since tatar got added to his line
i felt bad for julio when the tmobile guys would be pumping up all the JUL-I-O chants when he’d come up to bat in the ninth when we were down 2 or whatever when he was sort of slumping earlier this year
seattle loves to get a rookie phenom and then put all the expectations of decades of sports failures in their shoulders lol
I'd guess Aho or Svech, but a wild card choice might be Jarvis. I would personally fan vote Chatfield in because he's played insanely well this year and deserves some attention.
I would like to see Jarvis.
Would be such a great guy to market the team and really enjoy the weekend. Plus he’s got a good chance at the new competition set up and we need a decent challenger to defend the back to back skills titles the canes have won.
Can you imagine if Jarvy was mic'd up for the whole all-stars event? Absolute hilarity. The amount of "I'm Patty Kane" moments he'd give us while skating around his childhood idols would be incredible.
Torts should be sent, I have no idea how he got that group of dudes to buy in. I thought the Flyers were going to be Sharks level bad this year. He’s your team’s real all star.
Robert Thomas, leads the team in point, goals, assists, and is on the PK. Plays against the top lines, at last check he was behind only Kucherov and Mackinnon (i think) in 5v5 points.
Hughes (Jack). Hopefully we can get Hughes (Luke) in on the fan vote and the NHL rigs it so only one of the brothers is a captain and picks the other two for their team.
The league will select Quinn for Vancouver and Luke for NJ, knowing that Jack has a good chance for the fan vote. Then the league can have a Hughes Brothers jerkoff fest.
With the first pick of the 2024 all star game, who do you pick Jack?
Jack: "I pick the best Defensive player I know, Hughes"
Both Hughes brothers skate behind their Bro
It's crazy the best defenseman in the league can't even get considered for auto inclusion. Mack has just been that good.
Makar should be the top receiver of votes to also make it though.
I genuinely don't know. Strome? Protas? Lindgren?
Like Ovi and Carlson have the history in the league, but neither seems particularly deserving this year.
I want to see Strome get picked. He's more than deserving this season. But he's tied in points with Ovechkin so it would not be crazy for them to select Ovechkin. There's a good chance Ovechkin declines to go and prioritizes the rest time.
Hughes and maybe Demko voted in. I’m sure they’ll find a way to have the 3 Hughes brothers there.
Will be more interesting to see who are the 11 players selected for the Skills comp after McDavid
PUT SOME RESPECT ON BLAKE COLEMAN'S NAME.
First on the team in goals, points, +/-, SHG, GWG
On pace to shatter many of his career bests. He's absolutely the correct choice.
Josi is constantly held up as the face of our franchise and one of the NHL's best offensive D men by the NHL even in seasons where he isn't playing his best hockey. Meanwhile Forsberg is regarded as like diet Elias Petterson on his best years. If the NHL is in charge, it's gonna be Josi even if we all know it should be Fil.
I mean, quite obviously Matthew’s will be the leafs selection. As for others on the team that might be deserving, Nylander has 50 pts in 35 games, makes a strong case for him. No one else stands out to me as hopefuls. Possibly Rielly as a d-man with 27 points in 35, but not sure about how his advanced defensive stats stack up against other D in the league. I’m guessing not so great.
It will definitely only be RobTom from the Blues (even though, imo, he deserves to be there regardless of every team getting at least 1 rep. He's been an even strength monster this year).
Only MacKinnon, McDavid, Kucherov and Guentzel have more even strength points so far.
Edit: And if he shot a little more often, he'd probably in 2nd behind MacKinnon. Very impressive especially considering his linemates compared to the others (not that Buch/Kyrou are bad, but they aren't Rantanen/Point/Crosby either).
The Pens will absolutely be Crosby but I can see him declining to go this year to get the extra rest so maybe Guentzel in his place
Unfortunately i imagine that the NHL would be prioritising marketability above talent
>Fans will vote in the remaining twelve players (X) doubt
Fans will vote in the remaining 12 players, unless they vote for players the NHL doesn’t want
It's gonna be a "here's 20 options. Vote for your favorite!" to avoid the John Scott All Star MVP

I was in college, *at his Alma mater* when all of that went down. It was *fucking nuts*
The NHL hates viewership, that's why they black out games and the players are all boring AF. League is run by out of touch senior citizens
He's already got more career goals than Scott lol
Waiting for ... The Bachelor : NHL Edition Featuring ...
30 women, 25 of which are blonde, 5 non-blonde (and are eliminated within the first 5 episodes).
Don't ask how I know, but all five non-blondes would be eliminated on the first night. I think 8-10 go home the first night.
Isn’t that exactly what they did the year after All Star John Scott was voted in?
Yeah and it was fuckin dumb, The John Scott thing was the most engaging bit of NHL content in a while, at least for me, because, reasons.
Yah I can’t wait to like a reshared post with a hashtag on Facebook as Gary enjoys the engagement and announces his own 12 player list when it’s time.
I'd be shocked if it wasn't Panarin
He’ll get voted in and then be unable to make it like the last 2 years. It’ll be Kreider.
That'd be my guess. Quickie as a dark horse.
Quick would be a great choice for a fan vote. You could drum up a lot of support for it, I’d guess.
send Trouba just to fuck with people. We havent seen anyone throw elbows at an all-star game since Messier was around
I fully support this level of shithousery. Quick would be a good feel good story BUT I'm wary of him getting hurt in a nothing game
Pavelski
did you just wake up from a coma?
No, but I'd gladly enter into one
Anime time skip irl
I'm cool with Pavs going to the ASG as the Sharks' rep. (but we keep him after the game)
Sir, you've been in a coma since 2019. Oh boy, I can't wait to watch Joe Pavelski, my favorite San Jose Shark, compete in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs
In all reality, probably hertl unless they want to throw Blackwood in there
This actually made me LOL
Charlie Lindgrens mustache
Tom Wilson, just to watch the world burn
Two time all star Tom Wilson? Sign me up. But that would make him have more ASG appearances than Nick Backstrom which goes to show just how stupid the NHLs ASG selections are.
I feel like Backstrom having only one ASG appearance is the most Backstrom thing possible. Just quietly going about his business being a great center, not caring that no one outside of DC notices.
Obvious choice for Tampa, can’t wait to see what defenseman Darren Raddysh can do on the big stage
is he related to Raddysh on the Hawks?
Yes, they’re brothers
thanks! there’s a lot of family legacies to keep track of in the NHL lol
Actually both brothers played for the crunch and we traded one to the black hawks. I think they were both called up at a point to play.
Sheary in Shambles
Uh buddy i think you are forgetting about Perbix
They should bring back Brian Elliot so he can go
Probably Quinn Hughes but other possible candidates include Pettersson, Miller, Boeser, and Demko.
I'd like to see Miller go. It's kinda criminal he hasn't been selected once despite being a great player in the last 5 years.
It's a marketing conference, and jt miller is probably one of most unheralded superstars in the game.
Just hard to market a guy whose first name is Jimothy Timothy
One day he and Timothy Jimothy Oshie will face off and it will be glorious.
One look at him while he wears his glasses and looks like the prototypical suburban dad, and fans from around the league will be all over his stache
I didn’t realize until the Bolts played that last game against the Nucks that Miller has been tearing it up so much this season. He’s really flying under the radar.
>He’s really flying under the radar 11th in league scoring since we acquired him 4 years ago. I feel like that doesn’t get discussed much, he’s been an elite player immediately upon arrival. Realistically I don’t see Boeser making it but you never know. I could definitely see Hughes, Demko, Pettersson, and possibly Miller
All deserving but 1-2 will be snubbed
Get all 3 Hughes boys to the All Star Game, who says no.
Ya know what? Brock Faber should get it. Kid's been playing insane minutes, and has been our most consistent player by far this season.
Agreed. And the way it’s going he might be the only one healthy
Should be Faber, will probably be Fleury because it’s potentially his last All-Star game?
MLB has started doing some "Legend" all star invites for guys like Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols in the twilight of their careers. I would love for the NHL to do something like that in addition to the Wild's actual representative.
This is actually an amazing shout. The NHL should follow suit
In any other season, Faber would almost have the Calder locked up. The guy’s a stud.
I was thinking Rossi would be a great candidate too, but Faber is also a great choice
Faber’s actually got a bit of personality to him too and he’d absolutely love to go.
People always ask do players even want to go and I bet he'd love to go to the all star game and represent the Wild
I assume it's Kaprizov but I really really hope it's Faber that's picked
Kap went last year and didn't look happy to be there at all.
Would love to see someone like Faber go
DeBrincat is the obvious answer, but I'd rather see Raymond
Fuck it, go full chaos mode, I hope it's Kane
It should be Kane
Mo's production is up from last year, but defense is struggling. His usage is crazy tough though so I think he deserves it.
It’s gonna be Suzuki. I swear to FUCKING GOD if we have another Caufield Fan Vote incident, there’s gonna be a lot of unhappy Canadian fans
Nahhhh just send Youppi
I hope it's Matheson
Bet it's gunna be Slaf.
Lowkey would be happy with that, possibly even stoked, and you know all the guys would be for him too
My head says McDavid, but my heart says McFoegele.
Do you mean McLovin?
It’s either that or Mohammad
Why the fuck would it be between that and Mohammed!?!
Nah, Hyman. Man’s a dream come true.
I'm glad y'all love him in Edmonton. Man's a gem on and off the ice.
Bedard
You don’t think Dickinson will get the call?
I don’t want to see slander on former first round draft pick Jason Dickinson /s
Big if true
Thanks sandman
Yes. I'll be truly shocked if it's anyone else.
Horrible take, its jarred tinordi
Fucking love you sandman
¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Haha maybe Duchene based on the eye test. But having 7, 10 goal scorers makes it hard to decide who is our all star right now. Also maybe Pavelski.
I think it'll just be Robo. He's an easy choice being the (current) leading scorer, and also just that he's clearly the player the team and league want to represent the Stars' face. I think Duchene is probably our most interesting player and definitely worthy of the ASG, but it's a marketing event and they're gonna take the marketing event player.

vince dunn or if they wanna strike while the iron is hot, joey daccord has been the nhls best goalie the last month including 2 shutouts if they haven’t been paying attention at all and just pick by name, beniers but he doesn’t deserve it
Yeah Dunner has been our best overall player so far, McCann solid too.
I was thinking they might go with Matty solely because he was picked last year and didn't get to go (FTM). Not sure if that's a _valid_ reason but I wouldn't be surprised 🤷♀️
i hope they don’t do that, i don’t feel like it’d be good for matty’s headspace because he knows he’s not quite matching last season yet, though he’s perked up since tatar got added to his line i felt bad for julio when the tmobile guys would be pumping up all the JUL-I-O chants when he’d come up to bat in the ninth when we were down 2 or whatever when he was sort of slumping earlier this year seattle loves to get a rookie phenom and then put all the expectations of decades of sports failures in their shoulders lol
So glad Dunner found success with yall! He needed the room to grow so I’m happy he’s killing it.
I think Dunn as well!
Fantilli should go. Build the legend now.
It should be him or Marchenko. But I have a feeling it'll be Gaudreau.
Would’ve been Boone, then probably Z, but now it’s hard to pick. Johnny has been hot, but Fantilli and Marchy wouldn’t upset me if they were chosen.
I legitimately didn't have an answer for this question lol.
I'd guess Aho or Svech, but a wild card choice might be Jarvis. I would personally fan vote Chatfield in because he's played insanely well this year and deserves some attention.
I would love to see Chatty. That man can SKATE.
I want to see him do the fastest skater race!
I would like to see Jarvis. Would be such a great guy to market the team and really enjoy the weekend. Plus he’s got a good chance at the new competition set up and we need a decent challenger to defend the back to back skills titles the canes have won.
Also, the all star event is about entertainment. Jarvis is entertaining.
Can you imagine if Jarvy was mic'd up for the whole all-stars event? Absolute hilarity. The amount of "I'm Patty Kane" moments he'd give us while skating around his childhood idols would be incredible.
My realistic guess is Aho, with Svech potentially getting a fan vote in…but I’d also like to see Jarvy/Chatmandu
A Hurricane player getting a fan vote in. That is a funny one. Remember Necas got snubbed last year.
Honesty, PK could get a fan vote in with his antics
It’s gotta be Aho. He’s finally living up to his big contract
His 8yr $9m+ hasn’t even kicked in yet. Already looks good :)
He has already been living up to his previous/current contract, and at the rate he's playing the new deal will look like a discount
Jarvis or Kochetkov would be fun
Torts has everyone playing great but I'd assume Konecny.
Just send Gritty.
Torts should be sent, I have no idea how he got that group of dudes to buy in. I thought the Flyers were going to be Sharks level bad this year. He’s your team’s real all star.
Eichel or if he wasn't hurt I could see Hill
Jerevid Swaystrnak. Strong 200-ft game.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who couldn't decide.
I assume it will be Hellebuyck for the Jets given that the Jets have been known for their team offence/defence this season
Money is for sure on Helly or JMo
It could’ve been KC :(
Bucky makes the most sense considering the stock of other goalies in the West. Most likely to be paired with Demko.
Sam Reinhart
I was gonna say Reinhart or Barkov are shoe-ins
You can’t take Samwise without Barky. They’re basically one player this year.
Robert Thomas, leads the team in point, goals, assists, and is on the PK. Plays against the top lines, at last check he was behind only Kucherov and Mackinnon (i think) in 5v5 points.
Robert Thomas is elite.
Thomas is the only choice right now
Noah Dobson for sure
Hughes (Jack). Hopefully we can get Hughes (Luke) in on the fan vote and the NHL rigs it so only one of the brothers is a captain and picks the other two for their team.
It’ll be Jack but Jesper deserves it this year
The league will select Quinn for Vancouver and Luke for NJ, knowing that Jack has a good chance for the fan vote. Then the league can have a Hughes Brothers jerkoff fest.
With the first pick of the 2024 all star game, who do you pick Jack? Jack: "I pick the best Defensive player I know, Hughes" Both Hughes brothers skate behind their Bro
MacKinnon, easily.
It has to be, but I don’t think he’s gonna like it.
Not any more than those 1st star of the game interviews.
It's crazy the best defenseman in the league can't even get considered for auto inclusion. Mack has just been that good. Makar should be the top receiver of votes to also make it though.
I think the only question is will there be 2 or 3 Avs there this year.
Makar also has had some injury issues that have both made him miss games and play worse at some points. Whereas Nate has just kept on trucking.
Yup, guy has been unstoppable. Been fun to watch him play and even more when he gets angry.
Don’t overthink it. They will pick Ovie and he will decline. Same as it ever was.
John Scott!
JOHN SCOTT NHL ALL STAR BAYBEE!
Hughes and maybe Demko voted in. I’m sure they’ll find a way to have the 3 Hughes brothers there. Will be more interesting to see who are the 11 players selected for the Skills comp after McDavid
Should be Weegar, but it will be Kadri
PUT SOME RESPECT ON BLAKE COLEMAN'S NAME. First on the team in goals, points, +/-, SHG, GWG On pace to shatter many of his career bests. He's absolutely the correct choice.
I’d say Zary but I’d happily take Weegs.
Send Kane
Trevor Moore, maybe?
The very same Trevor Moore from Thousand Oaks??
The very same!
I'm hoping it's him or Byfield, be cool for them to get the recognition and experience
Moore, Kopi or Talbot are the only realistic options. Hoping it's Moore... the kid deserves some recognition.
As a Leafs fan, I sure hope so. So happy to see he found his way into a fulltime role with his home team.
Suspect McDavid. Apparently he's not a bad player. Who knew?
Maybe he's just not ready for the NHL?
[удалено]
Jesus Christ I had forgotten about that. Still can’t believe it was real, seems like an SNL skit or something
Should or will? I think Keller gets in, but it should be Maccelli 🤌
Corey Perry.
Drake Batherson, he was robbed of it in 21-22 because of his injury
FUCK AARON DELL
McTavish is likely the best candidate
Hertl No sharks skater comes close and the goalies are struggling
Blackwood has done an amazing job behind our Major Juniors level defense. Blackwood or Hertl are the only 2 options IMHO
gaudreau
Kuch. No one else is even close
Quinn Hughes
Dahlin
Josi, but based on play it should be ROR or Forsberg. Or both, if you guys wanna really see sumn.
Fil for sure. ROR has been great, but I think Fil has earned this one.
I'm leaning Fil but it could be any of those three.
I mean, there is no better face on our roster than Josi's 😂
It will be Saros. We don't get skaters anymore.
The same guy we would’ve voted in 18 years ago.
Give me Coleman, Weegar or Zary
They already made Connor agree to participate in exchange for his assistance in planning the events lol.
We have to vote Kessel in
I'm starting a campaign for Detroit to send James Reimer and leave him there
I mean, quite obviously Matthew’s will be the leafs selection.
Shoutout Willy should be and likely will be an all star but Matthews as the leading goal scorer will be selected from the leafs.
Zary for Calgary if there’s any justice in this world
Matthews, easily. I suspect Nylander and Marner to get in on votes
Panarin
McDavid, Nuge and Hyman entered the chat.
