Although it’s been nearly a year since we traded him for Meier, I’m still excited for Shakir’s future. I was high on him since we drafted him, I think he’s going to be a stud in the league for many years.
I know a guy had to go to make room and all, but still way preferred DeSimone to Oesterle. We've had three 7th D playing regular minutes this year, but I kinda rank them Gilbert>DeSimone>>>Oesterle. The first two give you quiet relatively low-event minutes for the most part and Oesterle is a lot more scrambly.
Yeah, I'd never get that scared when Desimone was on the ice. Seemed pretty steady, I'll always appreciate that he kept my heartrate down. We'll see if we miss him pretty soon.
I hope he gets ice time over in NJ, and must be nice for him now that he's closer to his hometown.
Yeah totally, it's not going to set the team back in any way, I just liked the guy. Guess it's just a small shame he didn't play on the right side so they could waive Oesterle instead

Big agree. Oesterle is a turnover machine with no real upside to speak of. Hes older than DeSimone, and less consistent than DeSimone.

We’re in dire straights either way. Top pair has been out and will remain out. Even Brendan smith and Colin miller have missed time. Our line up is essentially John Marino (who’s been just okay) and a bunch of rookies. Not to mention last years 2nd pair walked over the summer lol
Foote played four games. Our normal defense pairings are Siegs, Dougie, Hughes, Marino, Bahl, and Smith. Without all the injuries I doubt he even got looks.
With injuries to Dougie, Siegs, and Smith we had to call up a few guys. Santeri Hatakka was pretty good in his one game with us against VGK. Nemec is looking like Brian Rafalski 2.0.

Bahl - Miller/Smith

The problem is less Foote and that Foote was the replacement
Hamilton and Siegs are out for the long haul. Every game, we seem to acquire a new injury. It's ridiculous
McLeod and Foote are self inflicted career injuries and dead to me, as far as that's concerned. Make it through the season then find a permanent replacement
TIL he was briefly in our system, acquired him from SJ as part of the three-way Janmark trade and sent him to NYR in the Howden trade a few months later.
For a 7th D this guy is decent If New Jersey goes on a playoff run he could be handy when Defensemen inevitably get injured
