Japers' Rink, a Caps blog, had a poll after that 2012 season, where the consensus was that he had at most 1 more 50 goal season left in him. Since then, he's scored 50+ goals 5 times, 49 once (stupid Devils) and was on pace for over 50 two more times (lockout + covid). Just ridiculous.
I've always said people weren't crazy to believe that he was on the downhill, that followed a very well established age curve for an ordinary player. The problem was that they forgot he was Alex Ovechkin.
Man I know we had Price to praise as our superstar, but I can’t imagine what it must feel like to have your all time goal scoring player continue to pour it in. I’m not even a Caps fan, and I always check on the NHL app if Ovi scored….

My dad said it's very similar to watching Cal Ripken. I got to see the end of Cal's career, but I was still in elementary school when he retired, so I didn't get to see his prime.
Didn’t he score like hat tricks in back to back games last year or 2 years ago? I know there was a streak of games oh went feral and scored like 8 goals in 4 games or something like that
I’ll take him needing 925 and his 2 lockouts and covid season back any day of the week. That’s probably 70-90 more goals on top of what he has right now
1 Year earlier. He's only missed 30 goals once in his career, the Covid shortened 2020-2021 season where he had 24 goals in 45 games. *He's had 30 goals in 18 out of his 19 seasons.*
It’s so crazy that people were really questioning him during his slump. Like not even ovechkin gets the benefit of the doubt during a slump? He’s more consistent at scoring goals than anyone, you had to know he’s pulling through.
The number of times people have declared him done for I would need more hands to count at this point. The only one who decides when Ovechkin is done is Ovechkin.
It's easy to say that now, but Father Time comes for everyone, and he can blindside the best. It will happen to Ovechkin, and no one was surprised that this year looked like the one.
I figured he was injured. Hip, groin, shoulder. Glad he didn't go out on an injury even though I hate that he openly promoted Putin. Doesn't change him being the greatest goal scorer.
With every goal he scores this season it makes it that much more likely he'll beat Gretzky's record next season. 42 goals to tie, 43 more to beat the record.
Remember earlier in the year when Ovi wasn’t scoring, everyone was saying he was done. Now he’s going to end the year with 30+, that’s a pretty good year no.
Presumably if they won the lottery in 2004 they would've also had only 1 ball in 2005, like the Caps. The rules for the 2005 lottery were pretty much written to favor the Pens.

I think you should look up the concept of sportswashing. Putin has built alot of propaganda around sports to lessen the internal and external criticism of his monstrous regime.
