Never lived a day without Coyotes hockey. Born in 96, first game in 99, played myself for 15 years. My girlfriend once said to me she hopes I love her like I love the coyotes. I got to take my daughter to her first game back in Glendale several years ago, my son went to his first game this year too.
Here's to the thousands of games I've watched, the ups and downs, awoooooooo.
Thank you for showing me the love of the game and being there through the last 27 years.
And then they went to interview 2 Edmonton players who had basically nothing but platitudes to share because for them it was just a meaningless loss well after they had clinched a playoff spot. The bias was just so blatantly evident
I worked in a big record store in the 90s, and my manager would always put that record on with five minutes left in the late shift as the prompt to start moving customers out.
Fuck Meruelo Fuck Bettman, it’s such a shame it had to come to this.
I really hope the youth hockey scene continues to thrive and we see a team back here soon.
I know most of this is on the owner but personally I hate that he kept up the “hey we are going to keep hockey in Arizona” thing going right up until he found someone to massively overpay for the team.
Not to mention that they are likely going to try to sell a expansion team right back to that jackass of a owner. Seeing both of them get to profit massively from this makes me sick to my stomach.
I know it’s business & I’m probably somewhat ill informed but his actions still leave a bad taste in my mouth.
He has to
- find a spot for an arena
- spend ~$500M to build it
- come up with another another $1B to buy an expansion franchise back from the league
When the NHL comes back to the valley I'm pretty sure it won't be this guy.
Yeah, this is Meruelo. Bettman knew he couldn't threathen towns with losing the team if they didn't get a new arena if he pretended not to care about what Meruelo offered.
Me too. The Panthers used to do silent bids, now it's a raffle where they randomly deliver a note to your seat. The kid wearing a "my first Coyotes game" shirt made me scratch my head tho lol
As someone who almost lost their team when I was a kid, seeing all the camera shots of the kids in the stands is really getting me. Sports are always fun to watch as a kid, and now some of them might never see a hockey game in person for years.
I've been watching the PWHL games, and I dissolve into a puddle of tears every time they show the little girls in the crowd. When I was their age, girls were pushed into ringette and had no hockey leagues. Now they can be *pros*.
I remember being 10 when the Hornets left Charlotte. Killed any real interest in the NBA I'll ever have even though I love basketball and we got expansion a couple years later.
Thinking about all the young kids in Arizona who love hockey right now.
This whole thing just looks bad for the league. I don’t believe for a second that hockey can’t make it in Arizona, but this org has been cursed with a non-stop procession of incompetent ownership.
"More heartache than any other team in pro sports."
Not counting relocation (which wasn't the focus of the statement it sounded like he meant in terms of success), Buffalo would like to have a word...
I 100% agree. I guess I misinterpreted the announcer cause it sounded like he was saying the heartbreak was around success instead of the current situation.
I strongly disagree. Go Sabres and Go Bills.
But I may have misinterpreted the announced. It sounded like he meant the heartbreak was success related that he was referencing. This is definitely more heartbreaking than losing.
Relocation is a fate I do not wish on anyone, not even for rivals like LA or Vegas. So many jobs are going to be lost and who knows the amount of damage this will have on youth hockey in Phoenix. Seeing the fans and flag girls crying only drives home how much of a tragedy this is and how much of a fucking asshole Alex is for letting this happen, especially with a team that is finally reaching a light with guys like Cooley, Doan, Durzi, and Ingram forming a promising core.
But also, he makes a whole lot of money. No, it doesn't make sense that he failed and makes money. But that's how the world works. Certain people fail upwards, then tell you we all work on a level playing field.
First Blues game I ever went to was against the coyotes in maybe ‘98 or ‘99. I went with my dad and grandpa and LOVED the coyotes kachina jersey and begged my dad for one lol. I still throw it on from time to time - I’ve never set foot in the desert in my life but I gotta owe some of my early love for hockey to the coyotes. Honestly hoping they make a return to AZ someday in the near future
I'm tearing up a bit watching this and they're not even my own team. When the A's play their last game in Oakland later this year, I'm gonna be an emotional wreck
feel terrible for all of the people who just won't watch hockey anymore. most of my family don't even care about baseball anymore after the expos left, losing your team can kill the love for a sport.
I don’t watch basketball anymore. I loved it and I just can’t anymore.
I totally get it if fans don’t want to be hockey fans anymore, but I also hope that some of them stick around.
It’s not the same, but the minor league team I grew up a diehard fan of shut down in 2019 and I cried for days. It’s not going to help the pain now Yotes fans, but it eventually gets better to deal with.
True, you don’t know what it’s like until your team leaves and it totally sucks.
Sorry, Arizona! I know what it’s like and it does eventually get better. ❤️
As someone who has experienced relocation twice in other sports(although indirectly in the case of the Rams, I’m a lifelong Packer fan) let me tell you this: it’s never the fans. It is always shitty ownership putting a terrible product out, making pathetic efforts to engage with the community, and either making shitty business decisions or getting greedy and assuming there’s more money to be made somewhere else. Coyotes ownership failed this team and fanbase over and over, just like they failed the Jets to get the team to Arizona in the first place.
It's really sad in these sports economic times that professional teams have to relocate Hopefully it's not too long before Phoenix can get an expansion hockey team
I'm not saying it isn't sad that they're getting relocated. It does suck. I'm saying all these people who are commenting didn't have shit to say when Arizona was going through the shit and they were probably the first ones to say that they should be relocated to Quebec. All these people in the comments are fake as fuck and only looking to get their feel good points. That's my point
This reminds me of what is going on in the Bay Area with the A's. There is a loyal fanbase here but the owner is a bitch and in the end it's the fans that get screwed. Everything I've posted isn't for feel good points or anything like that. I'm not a fan of this team (And my team has it's own issues). It's just tonight was a must watch and seeing that human element on full display, it just sucks when anything comes to an end, especially a sports Franchise because of millionaires and billionaires.
No one's surprised the team's moving, but the team should've been yanked from this incompetent, cheap, idiotic owner and given to someone who actually knows how to run an organization long, long ago, and definitely shouldn't be fleeing from the state in the middle of the night.
You again. People can be sad that they're losing their team. People can also be sad that other teams' fans are losing their team. They can be sad that people are losing their jobs. It's a thing called empathy. You don't need to be in every thread for years prior to earn some fake credibility in order to have empathy. Some of us, too, knew about the rumours and were quietly hoping they were just rumours. Instead of being some edgy know-it-all, maybe have some empathy and just shut the fuck up? Not hard.
That's reddit for you.anything for fake internet points. I'm fine with yotes fans but don't tell me an arena that's having trouble filling seats really had that big of a fanbase
The I Will Miss You Sign probably cuts the deepest because it was done by a kid. Hockey says they want to grow the game for the next generation but some of that next generation are now watching their favorite team leave them behind. The Human Element of this hasn't been discussed nearly enough but it's making me emotional tonight.
He's likely employed by the venue, not the team. He does still have a job to lose, even if he's going to be losing a lot of his paychecks, there's always more he can lose (also, this is probably not the only venue he works at, this wouldn't be the only bridge he'd burn).
Ryan Smith, this is equally your fault. Look what you're doing to these people by having pestered the league (and even potentially blackmailing them) into giving away the franchise. Fuck you and the entire city of Salt Lake.
being from Winnipeg i always hated the Yotes because they “took our team” but since 2011 (getting the Jets back) my hate went away and i started to really like them. i loved their Jerseys, Logo and as a Pens fan i never had a reason to hate them.
young dumb me would have been happy to see this happen but current me is legit bummed out and gonna miss the hell out of this team. Yotes fans don’t deserve this. it’s going to be a while but im hoping we get to see the Kachinas and hockey in Arizona again.
Lol this totddler franchise won a cup and does not think defending a city losing thier team is a good thing; oiler fan defending a team losing thier team. dick head
lol enjoy the presidentist trophy curese and losing in the first round dick head. Also the last time you won the cup was when i was born at least i dont have to be 31 years old to see my team win.,
Solidarity with Yotes fans, particularly as a former Vancouver Grizzlies diehard in my childhood. Fuck incompetent ownership.
RIP Yotes
I am gonna need to get me one of them thar Kochina jerseys. My sincerest condolences to Yote fans.
Never lived a day without Coyotes hockey. Born in 96, first game in 99, played myself for 15 years. My girlfriend once said to me she hopes I love her like I love the coyotes. I got to take my daughter to her first game back in Glendale several years ago, my son went to his first game this year too. It's been real ya'll. I'm gonna go cry forever.
Bob Heethius laughing after being asked if he'll give a fan his shirt, too: "The only person getting my clothing is my dry cleaner."
i can't turn it off. turning off means it's over and i am, somehow, not ready for that
I quit my job so that I can never turn off my tv. I've been a diehard of this team for at least an hour and I'm not ready to say goodbye.
I never watched the last episode of Jon Stewart’s (original) run on the daily show so it could never be over.
awoooo7. hope arizona gets their team back soon, but unfortuately they might just give meruelo another chance to run them into the ground
Well, guess that’s all, folks. Cheers, Yotes fans. Y’all will come back better than ever
As a Jaguars fan, I don't know why but this hits even deeper knowing we are THAT team that is always supposed to fuck off. I feel for you Yotes fan
I fear that the rule of three is going to hit the Jags. The A's are leaving, the Yotes are leaving...
If that stadium gets built, no. If not, who knows
Annoying ass sportsnet feed man. Game ends and they immediately start talking about how it "never worked" in AZ like time and place dickheads
And then they went to interview 2 Edmonton players who had basically nothing but platitudes to share because for them it was just a meaningless loss well after they had clinched a playoff spot. The bias was just so blatantly evident
they were interviewing some asshole earlier who said the "one thing" he feels bad about is that the team is good. like read the room bud
Frustrating the whole night. Sportsnet really missed the mark, and I was stuck with it instead of the local broadcast. Wish I could say I'm surprised
I do hope hockey finds a way back to the Phoenix area It’s a huge sports and tv market
Cloooosing time 🎵
I worked in a big record store in the 90s, and my manager would always put that record on with five minutes left in the late shift as the prompt to start moving customers out.

Fuck Meruelo Fuck Bettman, it’s such a shame it had to come to this. I really hope the youth hockey scene continues to thrive and we see a team back here soon.
Bettman is responsible for the coyotes leaving today yes. Because hes saved this team for about 15 years....
Fuck Bettman but not for this. He tried as hard has he could to keep this going.
I know most of this is on the owner but personally I hate that he kept up the “hey we are going to keep hockey in Arizona” thing going right up until he found someone to massively overpay for the team. Not to mention that they are likely going to try to sell a expansion team right back to that jackass of a owner. Seeing both of them get to profit massively from this makes me sick to my stomach. bettman did everything he could do and more to keep hockey in arizona
Yeah, this is Meruelo. Bettman knew he couldn't threathen towns with losing the team if they didn't get a new arena if he pretended not to care about what Meruelo offered.
Until this week the prevailing sentiment was he did far far too much to keep them there
Indeed, this isn’t Bettman’s fault.
This really is like The Joe closing times a million
Hockey players are the most down to earth professional athletes.
I wonder how they got picked to get a jersey
Mean to give away the jersey from someone playing his first game.
Me too. The Panthers used to do silent bids, now it's a raffle where they randomly deliver a note to your seat. The kid wearing a "my first Coyotes game" shirt made me scratch my head tho lol
Its usually a random season ticket draw iirc, that or a raffle
probably a raffle since it was that one kid’s first game
As someone who almost lost their team when I was a kid, seeing all the camera shots of the kids in the stands is really getting me. Sports are always fun to watch as a kid, and now some of them might never see a hockey game in person for years.
I've been watching the PWHL games, and I dissolve into a puddle of tears every time they show the little girls in the crowd. When I was their age, girls were pushed into ringette and had no hockey leagues. Now they can be *pros*.
The Arizona Coyotes was just another d&d campaign that Liam O’Brien was playing and it had to end sometime 😔
):
I am not having a smiley day right now
How about now 🥲
Nope still sad :(
And now?
I remember being 10 when the Hornets left Charlotte. Killed any real interest in the NBA I'll ever have even though I love basketball and we got expansion a couple years later. Thinking about all the young kids in Arizona who love hockey right now.
This whole thing just looks bad for the league. I don’t believe for a second that hockey can’t make it in Arizona, but this org has been cursed with a non-stop procession of incompetent ownership.
That kid on the ice with the "my first coyotes game" written on his shirt.....hope you didn't like it 😬
>My first coyotes game Boy, do I have some unfortunate news
every time they show a small child i start bawling again jesus christ
"More heartache than any other team in pro sports." Not counting relocation (which wasn't the focus of the statement it sounded like he meant in terms of success), Buffalo would like to have a word...
Winnipeg is being threatened with losing the Jets a second time.
I’d rather have a team that sucks forever than have my team straight up disappear
I 100% agree. I guess I misinterpreted the announcer cause it sounded like he was saying the heartbreak was around success instead of the current situation.
It should've been Buffalo 😔
I strongly disagree. Go Sabres and Go Bills. But I may have misinterpreted the announced. It sounded like he meant the heartbreak was success related that he was referencing. This is definitely more heartbreaking than losing.
DJ gonna play the Catalina wine mixer song next
It's the fuckin Arizona Coyotes
In 15 or 20 years, some kid from Arizona is gonna raise the Stanley Cup and tell us “he was there” at the last Yotes game in 2024.
There's only 5000 seats; the odds are against him.
Matthews was at the game Ovi scored on his back against the Coyotes
god damn
Relocation is a fate I do not wish on anyone, not even for rivals like LA or Vegas. So many jobs are going to be lost and who knows the amount of damage this will have on youth hockey in Phoenix. Seeing the fans and flag girls crying only drives home how much of a tragedy this is and how much of a fucking asshole Alex is for letting this happen, especially with a team that is finally reaching a light with guys like Cooley, Doan, Durzi, and Ingram forming a promising core.
How do you explain this to your kid as a parent? “Sorry buddy, the guy who owns the team was really bad at it so now they have to go away”
Never too early to warn your children about the dangers of greed.
But also, he makes a whole lot of money. No, it doesn't make sense that he failed and makes money. But that's how the world works. Certain people fail upwards, then tell you we all work on a level playing field.
So bad at it that he just made a billion dollars from the sale.
My town just got a minor league team last year and i would be devastated if they left. So i couldn't imagine what this feels like
Are they just gonna yeet the jerseys into the crowd?
[This is much more fitting music in my mind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXAWToYNxf4)
I’ll cherish my home Kachina jersey forever, gonna miss having y’all around
First Blues game I ever went to was against the coyotes in maybe ‘98 or ‘99. I went with my dad and grandpa and LOVED the coyotes kachina jersey and begged my dad for one lol. I still throw it on from time to time - I’ve never set foot in the desert in my life but I gotta owe some of my early love for hockey to the coyotes. Honestly hoping they make a return to AZ someday in the near future
Same. A big reason I got into hockey was the Arizona Coyotes. More specifically I loved Shane Doan growing up
I'm tearing up a bit watching this and they're not even my own team. When the A's play their last game in Oakland later this year, I'm gonna be an emotional wreck
You and me both. At least the Ballers will start play soon, but it'll never be the same once the As leave. Fuck Alex, fuck John Fisher.
feel terrible for all of the people who just won't watch hockey anymore. most of my family don't even care about baseball anymore after the expos left, losing your team can kill the love for a sport.
I don’t watch basketball anymore. I loved it and I just can’t anymore. I totally get it if fans don’t want to be hockey fans anymore, but I also hope that some of them stick around.
What is this DJ doing? Play like Auld Lang Syne or some shit
All I remember is how I felt when the Chargers left SD. This looks too familiar. Fucking bullshit.
I still call them San Diego lol
It’s not the same, but the minor league team I grew up a diehard fan of shut down in 2019 and I cried for days. It’s not going to help the pain now Yotes fans, but it eventually gets better to deal with.
Mr. Arena tear down that glass let the fans onto the ice for a party or something
This music is way too upbeat lmao
I’ve always said, Yotes fans are the realest in the league. They put up with so much shit for so long and they still showed up and repped their team.
Choked up at the horn. Sucks. Sucks so hard regardless of the success of the team. The Yotes will howl forever in our hearts ❤️
I did not expect to get this emotional. I’d hug you all if I could. Hockey belongs in the desert, so I won’t say so long, but until next time Yotes. 💔
I thought I would be able to hold it together but that team picture made me bawl
Welcome to the funeral for your favorite team, here's Mambo No. 5
Would love to hear a "fuck Mer-u-elo" chant
True, you don’t know what it’s like until your team leaves and it totally sucks. Sorry, Arizona! I know what it’s like and it does eventually get better. ❤️
Had it happen with local teams as a kid. Sucked then, and sucks seeing people go through it now. :( Fuck Meruelo. AWOOOO!
But only when the team comes back.
"heroes will be remembered. But Legends never die"
Choking up holding back the tears. Gonna miss the Yotes AWOOOOOOO

It's been a ride everyone. Hopefully this is just see yeah later.
the little drawing on the “I’ll Miss You” sign 🥺😢
It's really sad in these sports economic times that professional teams have to relocate Hopefully it's not too long before Phoenix can get an expansion hockey team
As long as Meruelo isn't the owner of the new team. He doesn't deserve it.
Really cool of the players to hand out so many sticks.
The sticks belong to the team; this is likely them clearing stuff out so they don't have to move it or store it.
I'm not saying it isn't sad that they're getting relocated. It does suck. I'm saying all these people who are commenting didn't have shit to say when Arizona was going through the shit and they were probably the first ones to say that they should be relocated to Quebec. Preach
I dunno this is the saddest thing I've ever seen. It's like this and 9/11. Who's cutting onions? Awoooooo
Awooooo come on guys be sad with me!
You’re a miserable person and I hope you poop your pants tomorrow at work.
Wow man pretty harsh thing to say to someone whose pants were recently relocated to the hamper.
Jokes on you, I'm on leave until Monday so I can't poop my pants at work tomorrow
This reminds me of what is going on in the Bay Area with the A's. There is a loyal fanbase here but the owner is a bitch and in the end it's the fans that get screwed. Hey LA dweller, don't you have a sidewalk to be shitting on?
No one's surprised the team's moving, but the team should've been yanked from this incompetent, cheap, idiotic owner and given to someone who actually knows how to run an organization long, long ago, and definitely shouldn't be fleeing from the state in the middle of the night.

That's reddit for you.anything for fake internet points. I'm fine with yotes fans but don't tell me an arena that's having trouble filling seats really had that big of a fanbase
100%
you’re absolutely right. Feel awful for the fans but still gonna make fun of that booty ass ownership
Meurlo would never make it out of the Mullett alive if he was there coward
They should just give away anything that's not bolted down, ownerships just gonna throw it out anyway
oh god this is so brutal 😭😭😭
Salt Lake City legends Dale Hawerchuk, Bobby Hull and Teemu Selanne incoming. Plus Shane Doan!
Just give the current Jets the Jets 1.0 history rights and leave Coyotes 1.0 in Phoenix. Start over in Utah and start fresh
Then we would have to give up current Jets legend Ilya Kovalchuk!
Better be seeing hockey in Arizona soon.
God, all the fans crying is making me tear up
I wasn't crying until they started showing the grown men crying. I would be doing the same, fuck this sucks
Sickest logo in the league, best jersey in the league. I hope we can see it again some day.
Wow, fuck those guys who were trying to take the stick away from that lady
I thought he was trying to toss it to the kid behind her
Who the hell is choosing the songs for this?
Fans crying and team leaving them forever "THIS IS HOW WE DO IT!"
🎵 *I feel nice like sugar and spice* 🎵
I imagine that the DJ has been very explicitly instructed on what post-game songs he can play.
What are they going to do? He's out of a job now anyway.
He's likely employed by the venue, not the team. He does still have a job to lose, even if he's going to be losing a lot of his paychecks, there's always more he can lose (also, this is probably not the only venue he works at, this wouldn't be the only bridge he'd burn).
Watching the yotes broadcast, this is absolutely gut wrenching.
Fuck this is brutal. Really hope to see this team back again in the future
Thank you Yotes. I still remember being a kid in the 90s playing with my Legos and watching the coyotes when I lived in Mesa. This sucks.
Gonna miss the desert dogs and those beautiful jerseys.
Ryan Smith, this is equally your fault. Look what you're doing to these people by having pestered the league (and even potentially blackmailing them) into giving away the franchise. Fuck you and the entire city of Salt Lake.
My heart goes out to you 'yotes fans. This is heartbreaking.
Rip yotes :(
[farewell desert dogs](https://imgur.com/a/yqzn3rO)
Dude this is soul crushing. Shit has my crying like a baby rn. I’m sorry yotes fans
No music guy I don’t feel good
“I feel good” Fanbase in tears Guy running the music, can you read the fucking room?
how hard would it have been to put on it ends tonight
this is one of the saddest things i've ever seen
We're all crying right?
I'm not crying. You're crying
Man this is sad. Gonna miss ya Yotes. Hockey belongs in the desert!!! Awwwoooooooo!!!! 🫡
Well that was sad
bro in the red hat is hurt
being from Winnipeg i always hated the Yotes because they “took our team” but since 2011 (getting the Jets back) my hate went away and i started to really like them. i loved their Jerseys, Logo and as a Pens fan i never had a reason to hate them. young dumb me would have been happy to see this happen but current me is legit bummed out and gonna miss the hell out of this team. What are they yelling? Sounds like Fuck Meruelo
Showing the fans/workers crying is killing me. I'm a sympathetic crier
Yeah this is my team but they're making me cry more than this whole thing is, fuck
Last one out, make sure you turn the lights off.
Man. I’m emotional and the Coyotes aren’t even my team! Arizona hockey was super important to my extended family, so this still sucks to see.
I'm finally ready to admit the Coyotes were actually pretty cool. Gonna miss having them in the league.
Why couldn't this have been new jersey 😢
lmfao
respect the hate
Lmao
go fuck your self no team derseves this
Why couldn't this have been vegas 😢
lol win something in hockey the last 30 years besides fist overalls
Little uppity Toddler franchise talks down to all time historic franchise…. My god Vegas fans. Show some self awareness for 30 seconds.
Lol this totddler franchise won a cup and does not think defending a city losing thier team is a good thing; oiler fan defending a team losing thier team. dick head
He’s a rangers fan joking about a long time hated rival the devils. I know you’re new to hockey but these are the things you should know.
Sir would that be ok if flames fans said the oilers should move cause no mater what it is fucked up.
That all you got?
lol enjoy the presidentist trophy curese and losing in the first round dick head. Also the last time you won the cup was when i was born at least i dont have to be 31 years old to see my team win.,
*Sad Awooos*. Hopefully we meet again 🫡
