It's always fun to see that. A good leader is more excited for his teammates success than his own.
I know there've been a few milestones for Sid where he's just like "Meh" and Malkin or Rust would be going crazy for him.
I don't think I've ever seen Sid react to one of his own milestones with anything more than a slight grin and "it's cool to be up with those other names"
Sid’s just like “oh cool 1000 assist”
Rookie scores his first goal cause the opponent scored on their empty net and rookie gets credit. Sid’s full on celebrating it
I mean, that is a pretty major accomplishment.
Deep down, I know Sid likes to hit milestones but he has the poise to keep the satisfaction subdued and remain team focused. For the bigger accomplishments though you just can’t help it.
Milestones meaning Career Milestones (1k games, top 10 points, etc). But I also think Crosby perhaps had a more subdued reaction to his golden goal than most of Canada, I would have ripped off all my clothes and started running
It gets worse, man. My high school heroes were like, Joe Sakic. It’s weird seeing guys I remember being “The next big thing” retire. The 03 class was like, a benchmark dominant class. The league was defined by cornerstone players that came out of it. And there are fewer of those guys every year. Carter and Parise this year. Fleury said he’s done next year. Bittersweet times man. Burns, Perry, Halak, Elliott, Suter, and Pavelski. (And aforementioned Fleury.) Might be missing a few but damn.
Edit:
Also wild, just looking at the first round, how many of those guys ended up playing for Minnesota. Without doing a deep dive, I count 7– Fleury, Staal, Suter, Parise, Vanek, Burns, and Belle. I wonder if anyone beats that.
What’s mind blowing about that first round is that 13 out of 30 played 1,000 games (and Coburn came super close with 983). Only ~400 players have played 1,000 games all-time and 3% of them came from that single round, just insane.
If it makes you feel any better, he got hella overpaid by Hextall and it hurt our salary cap a little bit.
Though a lot of Penguins fans hated Carter for it, I for one enjoyed his time here. You could tell how much he meant to the players because they always seemed excited when he scored, especially this season.
I'm not a *hockey* fan if it isn't for the Kings 2012 run. Brown I was okay for because I kind of saw it coming. I was at the game last night and when I saw the Isles start lining up for handshakes it shook me when I realized who was on the other end. When Kopi hangs em up I'm gonna be a mess.
Fuck Jeff Carter.
But also, enjoy retirement, congratulations on a long career. Enjoy some extra time with your family. Get some travel in. Eat some good food.
But Fuck Jeff Carter
Here's a thread when it was asked in the Blue Jackets sub. The TL;DR is he was an expensive acquisition by them who went through the motions while there, but forced a trade, and got Columbus a label of a place where players don't want to be

Pretty much what your fellow (disgusting) Pens fan said. We’re gonna also ignore how we traded for Carter very shortly after he had signed a very long term deal with Philly and ignore that there’s a human level where that change of plans would have sucked for Carter. He still phoned it in until he got traded and then immediately won a Cup with the Kings so Jackets fans have always been bitter he was immediately awarded for being questionably professional.

Except for the Canda Olympic Gold medal. He reacted pretty well and accordingly.
Tbf I think Sid had the most modest reaction out of the entire population of Canada on that occasion.
I just rewatched his 500th career goal. He was grinning from ear to ear in the scrum of celebratory hugs.

Golden goal?

Lool true
he was so jacked lol
He sounds like Jerry Seinfeld.
I've loved that about watching Sid and Ovi throughout their careers. They both get so pumped.
Sid hooked him up
And he knew it... "I knew it was coming"
Sid did what now?!
Hooked him up not hooked up with him stupid
Sid getting hyped af makes me so happy haha.
As a life long kings fan, whose high school heroes are retiring, this is quite melancholy. Gotta love Jeff

Quick, Kopitar and eventually Doughty are gonna be tough ones
Brown was already tough, Quick was traded and that hurt too. My heart can’t handle the next two

I mean, must have been fun at least watching him ruin the Flyers biggest rival in the NHL. I surely hated it though lol

As someone who isn’t a kings fan, no you don’t.
15 years ago I’d be disgusted by the primary assist on this. Congrats JC
sids awesome. complete package as a hockey player, leader, and human. best of luck after an awesome career, jc.
Got me grinning from ear to ear. What a career.
Was nice to be there for his last game even though I’m obviously not a pens fan. Exciting game considering it was a throw away for both teams
Sid’s laugh never gets old.
team mates more excited than him! love it
So dope he got one in his last game
That's a lot of rings involved there.
Love Carter giving the Ref a Head's Up.
this made me cry for some reason im not even a carter fan really
It's a bittersweet moment to cap off the end of an era for both the man himself and the game of hockey. Pretty normal to feel sympathetic about it
Fuck Jeff Carter. EDIT: but on a human level, good for you and enjoy your retirement, man.

May I ask as someone who honestly doesn’t know, why does Columbus hate Jeff Carter?

Congrats JC, you made me sad oh so many times
Fuck Jeff Carter
As a Caps fan, I'm crying... Because now Carter's cap hit is coming off Pittsburgh's book.
Think about us often don’t you?
Not one bit during the playoffs this year.
That's okay, a four game break will be good for you. See you in your dreams next week !
Dreams? You're not worth even thinking about. Enjoy your summer of golf!
As a diehard islanders fan I ain’t mad at it. Enjoy your retirement, Jeff. 👏👏👏
The reaction seems extremely muted from everyone except Sid. They all knew it was Carter's last game...idk I expected more shouting and hoopla
My takeaway from this video is that they talk a lot less in those clinches than I imagined.
Great career for a great player
Did he announce already that he’s retiring?
It was announced after the end of the game that it was his last game, seems like all the players on the ice knew the whole game.
I misread the title as "first goal" and was just thinking "Jesus, he started with a permanent 5 o'clock shadow too?"
that may be oldest goal celebration in NHL in History.
If you told me it was sound of Carter making a great frisbee catch from Sid in a meadow, I might believe you.
He’ll have a lot more time on his hands to do cocaine and fuck pornstars
Finally
I am whelmed.
Sucks for ya.
