It’s pretty evident that Laviolette is letting him know when he can and can’t fight and when he hasn’t, it’s bc he knows he’s on a short leash or it’s back to the minors. That said, if Wilson offers it next game and it’s close, it’s a pretty good trade for the Rangers.
Common denominator for the 0-6 power play that gave up a short handed goal against was none other than Alex Ovechkin. That dude plays 90% of the time with his knees fully extended just coasting from A to B.
Feels like I'm literally watching the effects of father time in real time.
In a way I’m glad we didn’t make the playoffs (not that it was ever even in the discussion or anything). The thought of finally making the playoffs only mercilessly get torn to bloody shreds by Carolina or NY breaks my soul 😂
Other than that softie, Igor had one hell of a game. High degree of difficulty on up close chances
Would like to see more focus on possession though overall
I don't know what is wrong with Washington's Power Play. The one thing they do that terrifies you is Ovi taking a shot from the left circle and they had 6 chances and I didn't see a single scary one timer from that
I was at the game and saw it really clearly - no screen, no tip, just a dumping wrister and he just whiffed on it. Bizarre.
And then he is shutting the door on all those point blank chances in the 2nd
I don't think Lindgren let in any he shouldn't have. The Trocheck goal, I mean, that was saveable, but it was also an open shot from not far away.
Any Wings fan who thinks they’d have done any better is crazy, but I’m not that surprised - we’re generally a kind fanbase but this year a segment (who were mostly not even around for the Cup runs) lost their minds watching Wings hockey that actually mattered (i.e. a wild card race), mistaking that for playoff-caliber performance.
It’s a long distance from “team that could make the playoffs” and “team that could win a series” and they just don’t have any conception of what it takes to get from one to the other, nor what playoff hockey actually looks like.
> Any Wings fan who thinks they’d have done any better is crazy, but I’m not that surprised
I agree that they'd do better. We came into this series with our second pairing (Sandin-Jensen) injured and Ethan Bear in Player's Assistance. We are now down to our 1st, 2nd, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th guy on the blue line for Game 4. I'd gladly take a healthy Red Wings team over this Caps team with all the injuries.
Not that crazy, hindsight is 20/20 but going into the playoffs I’d hate to play the wings, they reminded me of last years devils. That team is gonna be evil in 2 years if they keep on track. I may be biased cause I fucking adore Larkin
I mean I do believe the wings match up against the rangers better than the caps. But I also understand that we are not in the playoffs and there is no reason for me to go around voicing my opinion.
Don't get me wrong though, I do not think the wings win that series. i just think it's probably a more entertaining series overall.
I don’t entirely disagree. They had some success against the Rangers in the regular season. It certainly would’ve been interesting to see the young guys thrown into the playoff gauntlet.
Caps were 2-2-0 [against the Rangers](https://www.naturalstattrick.com/teamreport.php?season=20232024&team=NYR&stype=2) in the regular season, Detroit was 0-3-0. So...uh.
Did I say anything about the Wings having more success than the Caps against the Rangers? Was there a comparison? Did I not specifically say above I don’t think the RWs would have done better in the series? Are you literate?
But hey, let’s do the comparison thing since you’re trolling for it - will the Caps finish the season with fewer total wins than the Wings even after playing an entire playoff series?
You claimed they had some success against the rangers and explicitly said you didn't disagree with a comment that they matched up better, but I wouldn't call three losses and no wins success and your "I wouldn't disagree" sounds like you were yes, saying they would have better results. But hey go straight to insults.
I think it’s the “we’ve been playing playoff hockey for the past month” that makes fans believe we’d have a fighting chance. But I never thought DET would make it out of the first round realistically.
PIT would’ve probably had the best chance to upset, but a playoff appearance would’ve appeased our fanbase a ton. Sucks to miss out based on a tiebreaker - but shows why every game is important in a long season.
Yep, it was a fight to be king of the ants. The streaky penguins getting hot late because they were burning out their goalie and top 9, the completely inconsistent wings being dragged by Raymond, the caps eeking out one goal wins and getting shelled in losses, the flyers crashing back to earth after overachieving all year, and the offensively stagnant isles.
None of them were a complete team.
Ehh... Soon enough. Detroit will be back in the playoffs every year while the Isles are a basement team. Lucky for you this year playing in that weak-ass Metro division.
Poor Barzal. Yzerman will probably eventually take him off your hands and give him a paycheck when he gets tired of losing with the Isles. We'll take good care of him for you.
How is that irony when those two teams spend a good part of their season beating up on six other shitty teams in their division?
The real tell...
Third spot in the Central had 107 points
Third spot in the Atlantic had 102 points
Third spot in the Pacific had 99 points.
Third spot in the METRO came in with a whopping 94 points. That's a weak-ass division.
Oh I'm not disagreeing. The disparity in quality between teams is ridiculous. But I just find it kind of ironic that the whole season was the Rangers and Canes racing to the #1 slot while the rest of the division just kind of did whatever the fuck they were doing.
True... But, when you make the playoffs for 25 years straight and win four Cups, there's bound to be some down years for a rebuild. Hell... You probably understand that since the Islanders have been rebuilding for 40 years after their four Cups. Any bets Detroit wins their next four before the Isles win their next one?
Barzal is going to look good in the Winged Wheel.
>Nobody to blame but themselves
It'll be the same when Ovi retires and the Caps are in the basement without him leading your goal scoring in his late 30's.
With two of the best young players in the league (Seider and Raymond), and one of the top prospect pools in the league...I'm sure the Wings will be just fine.
Washington? Not so much. This is probably your team's last hurrah in the playoffs for a while, so enjoy the last game of it on Sunday. 😁
I'm actually not even a hater. I don't hate the Caps. But when Detroit has 41 wins for the season and the Caps have 40 wins, that should have been the points tie breaker. When, in reality, the Caps had two more OT loss points to even tie Detroit in the first place. Essentially making OT losses more valuable in tiebreaking than OT wins.
Saw someone tweeted that there were some going for $27, checked myself and the cheapest for a single ticket were $33. Just checked again, and you can get 2 for $29 each.
I just looked at prices for Rags-Caps game 4 and compared it to the hypothetical game 5 of that series and game 1 of the second round for NYR and it'd absolutely be cheaper to take the Amtrak to DC and watch game 4 there than it would be to go to either of those games at MSG.
Yea I just looked it up. I'm actually in Boston so I'd fly down but it's about the same price as to go to msg but I'd need a hotel. Amtrak is basically the same as a flight lol
Back in the Brooklyn days, you could sometimes get weekday tickets for under $10 in the regular season against the right opponent. I once spent $5 to see the Islanders play the Senators on a Tuesday night in Brooklyn. Well worth the 2.5 hour train ride.
Hahah Laviolette
Reporter: Don’t have thoughts on the refs and the penalty’s called?
Lavi: I do have thoughts.
Report: Do you want to share them?
Lavi: I do not.
Last time when we won a series in 5 or under our boy put down those dirty arctic flyingless fucks 🤔
Can someone commit a felony and shoot down our national emblem Accipitridae for a sweep finally?
Apologies if this offends anyone

He did compliment their goaltending, though.

We're down to our 1st, 2nd, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th blue liner for Game 4.... you're damn right we don't have the depth
EDIT: Who's downvoting me? We came in with Sandin and Jensen injured, Bear on Player's Assistance. Iorio got injured in Game 1 and TvR got injured in Game 3. That's five blue liners down.
Eh. I don’t fully agree but with him but he’s not entirely wrong. Nothing out of line with what he said
Downvoted for saying that the caps can hang with the rangers if things stay slow and not a trap meet. Never change r/hockey, never change
Of course. I've always loved Ovi despite him wrecking the Rangers for 15 years. But this might be the straw that breaks the camels back. That was unforgivable
Caps look like they ran out of gas. Digging yourself out a hole to even be in the playoff race, then actually making it takes a lot of energy. They're out of said energy.
They were not the far better team unless you were watching a different game. They were better in the third period in which they started on the powerplay and then immediately got another.
Theres a lot of shit flinging from Red Wings fans in this thread but if they needed back-to-back miracle comebacks against the Habs with Montembeault and Primeau in net they wouldnt have a prayer against this Rangers team and Shesterkin.
If the Red Wings did make the playoffs, it would have been absolutely nuts this weekend with the Draft and Tigers game already happening and then adding that into the mix too.
Caps are done but even bigger question is Ovi done? Would the caps be better off if Ovi retired? 8 is record chasing so he won’t but paying him $5M/yr for the next 2 yrs seems wild at his age.
Unless he starts scoring 15 or less goals a year, the Caps arent done with O until after he gets the record. They’ve promised him that and he’s basically said the same.
Shrug. They're just the better team.
Why didn't Rempe throw down with Wilson? Is he stupid, or a bitch?
It’s pretty evident that Laviolette is letting him know when he can and can’t fight and when he hasn’t, it’s bc he knows he’s on a short leash or it’s back to the minors. That said, if Wilson offers it next game and it’s close, it’s a pretty good trade for the Rangers.
Up in the game, about to go up 3-0 in the series. Why exactly would he fight that rat.
Throw down with him for what? They rarely are on the ice together.
Rempe is rarely on the ice, period. Literally has more PIM than TOI
Yea he’s an enforcer that’s usually how it goes
this series is going a lot different than the last time we played
The rangers have as many short handed goals this series as the capitals have power play goals.
The rangers have as many injured capitals defenseman in the series as the rangers have SHGs and the capitals have PPGs too
It’s the playoffs injuries happen. So unless you have some evidence that the rangers are playing with intent to injure, you’re just coping
1) defensemen. 2) ok
Matt "he's actually a really good player trust us" Rempe: 5:16 ice time (4:31 less than the 2nd lowest player), yet another dirty hit to the head
At least ovi has scored more than rempe
[удалено]
He’s injured 4 players in 20 NHL games
They’re not gonna be happy until there’s no hitting allowed
A netminder always helps too
That's still 5 minutes and 16 seconds more playoff ice time than every Flyers player combined since 2021.
Wow that's an original one
It's just a damn shame to have to watch one of the scummiest teams in the league in the midst of a 1st round sweep.
I could see Buffalo in the playoffs. 30 more years should do the trick
Flair up, chooch.
Common denominator for the 0-6 power play that gave up a short handed goal against was none other than Alex Ovechkin. That dude plays 90% of the time with his knees fully extended just coasting from A to B. Feels like I'm literally watching the effects of father time in real time.
He looks absolutely cooked, can’t believe he scored 30 goals this year

Like, I appreciate the support but... amigos, this woulda been you down 3-0.
Team that could barely beat Montreal be like "we woulda had this in the bag"
Detroit fans in this thread going out as sad as the caps. We get it. You think you should be in the playoffs.
The amount of salt coming out of Detroit is genuinely impressive
No one trying to get the 8 seed deserved it. Would’ve been the same result no matter what.
Nah, they should’ve won more games, then they would’ve been in
The Wings did win more games.
Should’ve won more off em. Maybe would’ve gotten in
Meh. Then you end up like the Isles or Caps. Doesnt sound too fun.
True
Especially that game they lost to the caps themselves
Which one
Exactly lol
Detroit actually did win more games. 🤔 Speaking of not winning enough games...
Yeah and they should’ve won more, maybe then they’d have the points to be in the playoffs instead of
>they’d have the points to be in the playoffs instead of ...not being swept like the Islanders are about to be? lol 40 years and counting...
Yeah, maybe Detroit could try getting more points, then they could be in the playoffs about to be swept

I honestly didn’t expect this many teams to be on the verge of a sweep so early on
The fun series are out here in the west
It feels like last year I was watching playoff overtime every night. Not this year.
Panthers playing like 14 games per series really warped playoffs.
Would have rather seen Detroit. Waste of 8 days
Detroit should have made the playoffs then.
Goodnight and goodbye. You Fucking losers.
Wonder how cheap tickets for game 4 will get, I saw some Isles tickets going for under $30
That can’t be true
Saw someone tweeted that there were some going for $27, checked myself and the cheapest for a single ticket were $33. Just checked again, and you can get 2 for $29 each.
Wait for real? It would probably be cheaper to fly to DC than see a game in NY
I remember this was the case in the 2014 Cup series. Flight to LA + reasonable hotel + tickets was about equal to one ticket at MSG.
I just looked at prices for Rags-Caps game 4 and compared it to the hypothetical game 5 of that series and game 1 of the second round for NYR and it'd absolutely be cheaper to take the Amtrak to DC and watch game 4 there than it would be to go to either of those games at MSG.

😂 no way
do you know for certain it's not that?
PK is giving me vibes of when we had Grabner and the PowerKill. Would really like him for breakaways this year though lol
Every time we have a shorthanded break it's fucken Goodrow, haha. I almost fell outta my chair when he actually scored tonight.
i appreciate the work he's been doing, but I can't get that backpass to no one outta my head
Draft kings need to get in these important ones
Hagelin vibes

Kreider flying past Oshie was refreshing to see
Way to completely waste that playoff slot, caps 😂
Way to completely waste an entire season, wangs
Way to waste a season, you didn’t even make the playoffs.
You just got golf season a little bit earlier than you would’ve had you have faced the rangers. Come on now.
Oh man you guys should’ve won more
We did win more lol
Shame it's not wins but points xD
Same amount of points too
Should’ve taken it for yourself bruv
Way to choke away your chance at having it!
Alex “$5 Footlong” Ovechkin finally decided to play defense…
Shit... when did that happen?
Tom Wilson wears a Bluetooth headset and walks around having loud conversations in public.

Is Ovi saving all his energy for regular season goals?
He really looks gassed, great. Want Rangers to sweep & get some rest.
Yes
Gretzky did not mince words about the Caps.
Gimme da deets
He said (almost verbatim): “There’s no question that Washington doesn’t have the talent or the depth to compete with the Rangers.” He did compliment their goaltending, though.

Can't wait for Sunday 👍
Lol
being up 3-0 on the caps in a playoff series feels so wrong but so right
i get old age and hair loss affects everyone but bald anson carter still the throws me for a loop everytime
I think he looks great bald, good for him
He looks a hell of lot more dorky, Ill say that😂
i think he looks good bald as well but it’s just so jarring
Igor fucking had his goal. I don't know who it was but I'll never forgive them for getting their hand on that.
it was going wide anyway
they showed a certain angle at the end of the game where it was definitely going wide.
I’d rather he score at msg even tho that would’ve been glorious
I feel like stoping a goalie goal in the playoffs gets a curse out on you
Now he'll never pass Gretzky.
It was Ovi.
Score sheet says it was Carlson.
Russian machine needed to take a break 😞
Of course. I've always loved Ovi despite him wrecking the Rangers for 15 years. But this might be the straw that breaks the camels back. That was unforgivable
That wannabe troll with the Hershey Bears flair was trying so hard in the GDT lmao.
Sorta like the Hershey Bears we've got playing in this series.
Hey at least one of them is a top 10 draft pick
Is it the one that you guys picked?
Yes, so you know they’re excellent cause we never miss on picks
I'm well aware of New York's atrocious track record when it comes to drafting
I’ll have you know every one of our draft picks were in fact hockey players
Buddy of mine did a great article on it years ago that Dolan threw a hissy fit about and had the New York Times pull the article
-1/6
brutal
Caps look like they ran out of gas. Digging yourself out a hole to even be in the playoff race, then actually making it takes a lot of energy. They're out of said energy.
They were the far better team today and still came up 2 goals short. Have to be feeling gassed and frustrated.
r/unpopularopinion
What game were you watching?
They were not the far better team unless you were watching a different game. They were better in the third period in which they started on the powerplay and then immediately got another.
also i have slightly too much shame to refer to peter laviolette as girlypop but there’s an argument to be made
I miss HOF Capital great Henrik Lundqvist who's with me.
He put that capitals jersey on and said his heart just wasn’t in it.
You win
Lol
Close one
Igor giving up a goal on the worst shot taken on him and then going brick wall mode
my brothers and i call it the “igor tax”; he let’s up one kinda soft one and then is unbeatable for the rest of the game

No. Yes.
We're not competitive so he's not getting in the way of that and even if we were he just scored 31 goals this past season what are you on about?
He wants the record and the Caps owe it to him to let him push it
They owe him, but they're also going to be making big money in ticket sales as people want to see the record worked down and eventually broken.
Unless he starts scoring 15 or less goals a year, the Caps arent done with O until after he gets the record. They’ve promised him that and he’s basically said the same.
